I live in the St. Louis area. BOTH cities have very large areas that simply aren't safe. The 'burbs are fine...but don't go downtown, especially at night.
Completely agree! Every major city has a large population that’s bound to have certain locations that just aren’t safe at certain times, that’s why I plan on making another video in a Week on walking downtown on the safest rated and most busy streets!
Jonathan, do you have a video about the Pros and Cons of each city for people who are older and retired in terms of comfort level, walkability, infrastructure, amenities, conveniences, etc., especially if a person has no car?
Thank you for your insightful comment and for watching my video! While I haven’t yet created a video specifically comparing St. Louis and Kansas City for retirees without cars, I appreciate the suggestion and will consider it for future content. In the meantime, here’s some information that might be helpful: St. Louis: • Public Transportation: St. Louis offers MetroBus and MetroLink light rail services, providing extensive coverage across the city and surrounding areas. This network facilitates convenient travel without the need for a personal vehicle. • Walkability: Certain neighborhoods, such as the Central West End and Downtown, are known for their walkability, with easy access to shops, restaurants, and cultural attractions. Additionally, St. Louis has been recognized among the best cities to live without a car, highlighting its pedestrian-friendly infrastructure. • Amenities and Conveniences: The city boasts numerous parks, museums, and healthcare facilities, many of which are accessible via public transit or on foot, enhancing the quality of life for residents without cars. Kansas City: • Public Transportation: Kansas City is served by the RideKC public transit system, which includes bus services and a free streetcar line operating in the downtown area. However, the city’s public transit coverage is less extensive compared to St. Louis. • Walkability: While the overall walkability of Kansas City is moderate, neighborhoods like Westport, the Downtown Loop, and the Crossroads are considered highly walkable, offering a range of amenities within walking distance. • Amenities and Conveniences: Kansas City offers a vibrant arts scene, diverse dining options, and numerous parks. However, access to some amenities may require transportation, depending on the neighborhood. I hope this information provides a helpful overview. If you have specific questions or need further details, feel free to ask and or shoot me a text at 636.495.5215!
@TheGatewayGetaway Thank you very much. Maybe you could directly address the "negative" spin by some UA-camrs about St. Louis in their Cons. I guess older retired folks would be attracted to the Downtown locations on either city where things are more convenient, including medical services.
Having never been to either, I get the impression that when only the CITIES PROPER are taken into account that Kansas City may be in a better position than Saint Louis today. I am basing this on the drastic population decline of Saint Louis proper. According to the United States Census, Saint Louis proper peaked in 1950 with a population of 856,756, and its population was approximately 282,000 in 2023. I have seen videos about Saint Louis, in which there are so many abandoned and blighted properties throughout the city. I reside not too far away from Detroit, so I am somewhat familiar with the depopulation that Saint Louis proper is facing.
Yes I have a video actually going over this, due to multiple manufacturing giants leaving the area causing tons of family’s having to move therefore businesses and communities feeling the impact! If you had to decide which city would you move to and are there any locations specifically you would like to learn more about?

Informative video! May be useful to know that the women’s soccer stadium is already built.
Absolutely true thank you for making that clear!
FYI the preview screen for this video appears to be showing Wichita's skyline instead of Kansas City.....
Thank you so much told my thumnail editor and its updated!
