I just got off of BC after 17 years, and am having some weird symptoms but hoping they pass and I feel whatever normal is again. My boyfriend said my mood is 1,000X better, I feel happier, and sex drive is coming back, after only two weeks. 🤞🤞

YES GIRL! You actually inspired me to consider going off - as you know from our chats! I went off mine mid June after being on it for 15 years aka half my life. I can honestly say it was the best thing I have ever done. My weight dropped a LOT right away (like 5-6 pounds) and mentally I feel so much clearer. I had a few zits when i first stopped but that’s it. I’m also proud to say I got my FIRST true menstrual cycle this week! Which I was shocked. I didn’t think it would come back so soon and I just couldn’t be happier to know my body did this on its OWN!!!! So glad you are doing amazing babe

I too have been on birth control pills for 15 years. I was recently switched to a new generic one and it caused me to retain a LOT of water in my left leg. It did subside and everything is "ok" but immediately had a serious conversation with my husband. I am now off of them and he is getting a vasectomy! He said "you have been on those way too long anyway and I want you to be as healthy as possible!" I am SO excited to see what happens for my mood, weight, etc.

I had a hysterectomy in February, left with ovaries, stopped birth control pill, before stopping pill I was stuck at 155lbs, nothing took weight off. I'm down 20lbs 4 months later. The pill definitely caused weight gain and constantly being hungry.

I went off the pill after 15 years. I didn't notice the "cloud" that it gave me during everyday life until I went off of it. I felt like for the first time all of my efforts in diet/ training were showing. I started to look a lot leaner and lost an overall bloat throughout my entire body.
That being said, it is not the easiest to come off of. As someone who was put on the pill to remediate hormonal acne in the first place, as expected my acne came back with a vengeance. Not to mention I have oily skin instead of the ultra dry skin the pill gave me. I have also experienced the hair loss that some people get. My body is already evening out which is motivating me to continue this path.

You look amazing kara! But most important that you're feeling better. I went off hormonal birth control exactly 5 months ago, after reading up on a Dutch medical study that was released this last year. I read the actual report that is published in a medical journal (easy to find online,) and the findings are significant. Depending on the length of time that a woman has been using hormonal birth control, the higher percentage of cancer risks. Having been on it since I was 19 ...and now 32, my risk level was in the 38% range! I find it very concerning that this study was barely talked about in the news, and that the FDA clearly doesn't give a crap (per usual.) Imagine how much money is tied up in the pill... including the millions of tax dollars that fund "free" clinics like planned parenthood to supply it.
Quote from the new England journal of medicine: "The risk of breast cancer ranged from a 9 percent increase among women who used birth control for a year or less, to a 38 percent greater risk if a woman used it for 10 years or more."

That's reassuring to read it took 4 years. Because having different health issues I don't really know tge ones that are to be blame on birth pills. For now it is difficult because I put on so much weight :( and it appears my body has real difficulty producing estrogen.. did you see an improvement of estrogen years after stopping? Well maybe you didnt have a drop in estrigen when you stooped the pill.. but if you had did it improve?

I’m 60 now Kara, even though the last five years I suffer from certain foods and still trying to see which effect me, I look back when I was so fit I never could take birth control either, I worked out without schedule and ate healthy according to what I craved. I didn’t even think twice about a cheat dessert ever. I was so lean and great muscle tone! I was stopped all the time and asked if I was a body trainer. I was just living life being me. I ate when hungry I worked out when ready, I slept when sleepy and I had strong will power too! That will power came from me loving me and from no plans or set rules and I looked and felt amazing! I’m not bragging I’m sharing my journey and everyone has there’s. This is mine. I believe loosing my parents and a relationship and those things is what threw my life into a tailspin and there you go trying to plan this or that and that’s not good! Not for me. Anyway we’re all different that was my difference. Have a great day!❤️❤️❤️

Oh man, this video hits close to home in many ways. I have been on birth control since my early teens due to acne and I'm now 42. I have chronic cystic and inflamed acne that (if not on the pill) affects my back, chest, neck, arms and even thighs. The pill hasn't completely eliminated acne from my face but it's WAY more manageable and less noticeable, and it does eliminate it from the rest of my body. But I HATE being on it for so long and what it does to me emotionally and to my body. (I have that lower abdominal mummy tummy without the kids! And thunder thighs hanging on for dear life.) I'm pretty sure that's why I've cycled on and off antidepressants, due to how bat-shit crazy I feel sometimes. I tried going off the pill about 10 years ago and it was a HORRIBLE 6 months dealing with terrible acne everywhere that nothing else would help. I could not withstand it psychologically (even though I desperately wanted to stay off it) and ended up returning to the pill to get my skin to clear up. I still have scars from that time (and also the one time in my 20s I tries Accutane - which is another horror). I feel like I'm trapped taking the pill and I feel like I live in a body that works against me in so many ways. ( I also suffer from chronic spontaneous hives that have been worsening in my 40s.) It seriously makes me cry sometimes. I know I can't be on the pill for the rest of my life and don't know what I'm going to do once I'm forced to go off. My acne has seriously made me suicidal at its worst. But I'm tired of the pill. 😔 Sorry for the text vomit. I'm so happy the change has worked for you! You look fantastic! ❤️

Thank you for making this video! I went off birth control 5 years ago after being on it for 6 years. My friends still today are so distraught and always remind me “but you’re married, how are you not on birth control?” I remind them they are other ways of protecting against pregnancy! Ways that don’t interfere with your body’s natural cycle. Women do always agree with me when I say why as a female do we have to take a pill everyday to mess with our hormones to not get pregnant when a guy can just wear a condom?? And don’t let a guy convince you condoms are HORRIBLE. 😂

I recently got off the pill and am so glad I found this video. I’m 2 weeks in and there were lots of changes that were happening to my body and I have to say before the decision to stop I never looked into the real chemical makeup or the side effects and potential damages of hormonal birth control. I would literally go in prolonged fasting to see some kind of weight loss and that ultimately messed up my gut health. I felt heavy, lethargic, moody, very very low libido. I can’t wait to ride it out and truly see the magic of my body doing what it was designed to. I benefited from birth control when I did use it and I know lot of people need it for different reasons but all the side effects I’m experiencing from birth control detox aside, I’m glad I made the decision to stop.

Honestly this makes me want to come off my pill even more since I’ve been questioning it.
It’s not simple for me because I have endometriosis and profusely throw up due to pain when I’m on my period, so in a way it’s a huge help to me. And I hate taking strong painkillers I can’t function right.
But I was put on it when I was 321lbs- I’m now 241lbs and I can NOT move past that. My chin is breaking out so badly & even my trainer said the other day “your hormones are up to something” baring in mind he knows I haven’t had a pimple for the past 6 months he’s been training me and I’ve been eating and drinking my water.
I think I’ll come off when I’m done with the pack (I’m on my last one anyway) and see how I go.

That was the first birth control I tried but my regular, semi light, non cramping periods turned into long, very heavy periods with cramping... like my uterus was trying to expel the iud... and i always had irregular pap smears... so every 6 months i would have to do the next step of having a copolscopy, where they would never find anything. I told my gyno that it was related to the iud and she said studies didn't show that. I had never had irregular paps before. I eventually got it taken out because i couldn't bear all of the above... and what do you know, haven't had an abnormal pap since... i went on to try depo and moved on to low dose combo bc (which is fine) but now im getting my tubes tied and im so excited to be off bc... ultimately you have to do what's best for you.

I've been tempted to get off my birth control too, but the only thing stopping me is the fact that my periods are super irregular, and when they DO happen, they're abnormally heavy and painful. I just take birth control so they're one less thing for me to worry about. Maybe once I reach my forties, I can quit no problem?

After being on BC and getting off of it, it took 8 months to get my period back. But not too long ago I felt finaly like myself!! i was also eating more and losing weight. it was crazy! Then I got my period last week and I feel back at square one.. But I hope I get back to the place where I felt great soon!

Thank you I love this. I was on one kind of birth control (combo pill) for many years and loved it but I had to switch to a different brand. I've never had an issue with weight in my entire life until now. I completely understand not feeling comfortable in your body. I have wanted to try going off the pill but have been scared of my weight issues getting worse. This gives me inspiration and confidence to give it a try. I have other health concerns that I'm hoping it will help as well.

I started using Progesterone in cream, I’ve gained like 20 pounds in 6 months, I didn’t realize that it was the progesterone putting the weight on me, I walked 3-5 miles and I watch my diet, it was impossible to lose any weight, I thought it’s cause I’m 49 years old, I decided went off the progesterone and I’m doing much better, weight lost is happening

It’s good seeing someone like me when I’m in school now. We have class 8-9 hours a day for my masters. We do have 10 minute break an hour so I make sure I walk to the bathroom or around the school some. I also have a yeti cup and I try to drink the whole thing of water during the 50 minutes I’m sitting. So then I’m able to get my water as well. I was going to the gym but sometimes I just can’t do it. So I try but sometimes it isn’t possible but when i get the 10k I’m proud of myself.

My girlfriend took BC by pill for around 4 years and recently switched to the nexplanon implant about 5 months ago, and it has killed her libido and overall confidence in herself. She is considering going off birth control but she knows her extremely painful cramps will come back if she does stop her birth control. Both her and I have seen the constant cloud raining down on her head and it has recently gotten worse to the point where I am really worried for her. Birth control should honestly be only for men, but still be available for women that struggle with their extremely painful pms cycles. Men are fertile 24/7 and will not have the same detrimental physical and mental effects simply because of their different hormonal structure. Unfortunately, I don’t think male birth control will be available in the near future (meaning in pill form or implant).

Thank you for the video, everything you mentioned, I have experienced from face bloat, weight gain, and acne. So how long after getting off birth control, did you start to see a change? I’ve been off birth control for 2 months now and I am definitely in the acne breakouts stage, it also took this long for me to get my period. So just curious since I have also been working out consistently and eating fairly clean, but I have just seen weight gain and not weight loss. I can feel that my body is still resetting so I am curious when did you notice that the weight was finally coming off?

This video spoke to my soul! I just this year took on a program that took the stress from me planning my workouts and allowed me to just get in the gym and do what it told me to do. Yes, it was definitely less than what I was doing and the plan required me to eat more than I was comfortable, but I noticed right away instant changes in the amount of bloat I had. I feel I have a bit more weight to lose and it’s slow but I am making strength gains daily. I realized I was over training when I was making my workouts and it was causing me to make any progress!
I also have decided to go off hormonal birth control. I chose to have a copper IUD placed to still have reassurance that I would not be pregnant, but I am excited to see some changes in mood, body and mind with being off all of the hormones that I have not been producing myself naturally!
Thanks for the video, it makes me feel very confident in the choices I have made for myself!

I did that so I can have it marked down just to have an idea of when i should expect my period. I waited till it was the last week “period week” to get off the pills rather middle in the pack.

Katie Ambrose hey girl! I know this is from 5 months ago, but there is a digital “birth control” which uses nothing at all but a thermometer! Natural Cycles is the program. You basically measure your temperature at the same time everyday when you wake up, & it helps you detect your cycle & tell you when you’re ovulating or not. It’s pretty awesome, you should check it out!

Hi, if you are in that path a great recommendation would be to buy the book Taking Charge of your fertility in there the author explains the Fertility Awareness Method in deph that is based in basa temperature, cervix mucus and cervix position. Also you can get a Daysy or Ladycomp that work with an algorithm and are 99.4 % reliable, based on the measurement of your temperature. Most women are fertile only 6 days per month, so with this methods is pretty easy to find out when with accuracy. Hope this helps.

If I remember correctly, the pill tells your body that you are already pregnant so it resists letting it happen again. The body was not meant to believe that it is eternally pregnant. It isn’t really a question of ‘is it healthy’ but rather ‘how bad is it’. For many younger woman it is a risk/reward question.

I have had acne my whole teenage and then adult life. I’m 32 now. I stopped eating all processed foods, carbs, and sugar 7 months ago. I quit the pill this month. My constant, horrible cystic acne is gone. And my acne scars are slowly healing.
I eat healthy red meats, and farm fresh eggs, limited dairy (local goats milk yogurt) and always healthy animal fats. I’ve been able to quit my antidepressant, my anxiety disorder has disappeared, I quit smoking, and now I exercise all the time, thanks to the increase in steady energy and mood boost. Carbs were my downfall.
I can’t say what would work for you, but I started this journey to fix my acne and ended up realizing that I fixed my depression and food addiction in addition too. I wish you so much luck!

I started taking the pill, because I got diagnosed with endometriosis. They marketed it as the magic pill - it will help intense period pain, you can skip period if you want to, get better skin etc - of course I started taking it.
But after a while, I noticed something different. My strenght at the gym weakened, I didn’t feel as motivated as before. I was extremely depressed or terribly irritated most of the time. As I had previously suffered from severe depression and anxiety, I thought I was relapsing. But I had no reason behind why I was feeling so down, and I was lost. Then my libido disappeared completely. Weightlifting became harder and harder. My partner almost left me, because I was a completely different person.
Then a friend of mine mentioned, it could be the pills. Suddenly it all came to me - all the symptoms are side effects of the pill. I had always been interested in medical science, and I found out all the things synthetic hormones affect and I went off the pill immediately. Of course my endometriosis will continue to grow, but I’d rather enjoy my life synthetic hormone free.
After quitting, I lost 6kg of weight. My mind cleared up - I wasn’t as nearly as irritated before, my will to live came back, and I was much happier. As if I had had brain fog or something. My strenght came back, and weightlifting went well. Even my libido came back. Pretty much all the negative side effects cleared up in a period of a year.
Honestly, going off pill was the best decicion I’ve ever made. Even though they are the only treatment for endometriosis (other than having it surgically removed every time it’s grown), I’d rather live sybthetic hormone free.

I haven’t been on BC for a good 6 years. The last one I had was the mirena . I felt bloated all the time, I felt nauseous, I just didn’t feel like myself. Soon as I got that out, within a week or so I felt better. I do suffer a small case of endometriosis and my gynos resolution was to put me on a low or no hormone BC. I was on a no hormone one in the past and it just didn’t work out for me. So now I just deal with it. I rather deal with it then to go through those hormone induced effects again.
