Exactly. If greed from the major bowl tie in’s didn’t take place, playoffs should have been implemented in the 90s with 4 teams, 6-8 in the 2010’s and 8-12 in the present each using BCS systems. Each season is progress to smooth out the process(it won’t be perfect).
Clemson wasn't ranked Top12 and doesn't deserve a cfp selection. And Dabo Swinney should really have only beat Nick Saban 1 time. That year Lane Kiffin didn't coach in the national championship game really cost Alabama. i hated that for Jalen Hurts because had the game won
The problem is that there are too many cooks in the kitchen (P4 + G6 + CFP + Bowl Representatives + Networks + NCAA), and until that number is cut down, nothing is going to change. That being said, the right number and format is a 7-team CFP w/the first-overall seed getting a bye, i.e., the NFL model, and the cut rounds being sent to the conferences for them to form their own semi-finals for the conference championships. Additionally, the premier bowls (Rose, Sugar, Cotton, Peach, Fiesta, Orange, and possibly, the Citrus) will be incorporated into the format as a possible host for the semi-finals and finals, or they'll be a reward for the teams left out, i.e., the format for the 4-team CFP. Outside of those 7-8, premier relics, every other bowl will be told to take a hike, and we can finally move on to how it should've been from the start. Also, while we're at it, bowl and playoff eligibility should be raised to 9-wins per season to prevent an argument for increasing the number of bowls and the CFP bracket from ever taking place again.
The auto bids are fine but then seeding needs to be determined by ranking once the field is set. The byes this year as so would then be Oregon, Georgia, Texas, Penn State. Then, similar to the NFL, in the second round, the number 1 seed gets the lowest seed winner from the first round. So if Clemson gets the upset, they’d play Oregon,” instead of ASU as it currently is formatted. This would also get rid of the issue of the 5 seed right now possibly being more desirable than the 1 seed.
Let me guess Pates solution is all 16 SEC teams get autobids and first round byes regardless of regular season records. Also if they lose in the playoff to a non SEC team they get an automatic rematch if they have more nfl prospects and FanDuel would favor them on a neutral field
They need a BCS style formula and eliminate the committee so we can remove biases. This way teams are ranked according to schedule strength and the strength of your opponents schedule and valuing quality wins and punishing bad losses.
@@JohnMandock Then put them in your conference and lets find out..... Even that were true by this seasons standards that would mean their 9th best team of all time is a borderline playoff team.
The running bag piled up all his statistics on scrub teams except oregon. What a joke. Barry Sanders did it against legitimate teams. Not the scrubs at genty plays against
@@JohnMandock Really? Ask your boy Sankey why he blacklisted Boise State from playing any SEC team since 2014..... You really think the team that has played the most ranked OOC games the last 25 years is afraid to play yall? 6of the 7 last meetings were against SEC champions, SEC Division Champions or top 13 teams in the nation. They didnt even play the average of your conference. And then they started to beat your teams and Sankey came out and said Boise is too much of pain to play. If your not afraid of this team let them play your conference again....
Seems like a whole lotta 2 mouthing going on where people SAY they care about on field performance but then go off on the other side talking about how “but Hypotheucslly on a neutral field, this roster of First round draft players destroys this other team”. So which is it guys? Do we care about real life merit and the games played in actual reality or do we care about just stacking the playoffs based on preseason rankings and recruitment or even just being good last year?
Josh Pate is a fake. His entire philosophy when I started watching the show in 2020 is that the regular season & individual games have to matter. Now he just politics for the SEC. He said last year he would stand on the table if undefeated FSU got left out of the playoff. When they did, he said the committee made the right choice because Bama would be a better TV matchup. He doesn’t care about the health of the sport, he just wants your views.
@@alexe727 Chill out. You are wrong. Just because someone disagrees with you doesn’t make them a fake. I haven’t been a fan of some of Pate’s opinions recently either. That doesn’t make him a fake.
The people who do the rankings have a lot of prejudices so just going by rankings is stupid. Teams just don't play enough games to give an accurate value of who is better.
Remember when Georgia got snubbed with a one loss record last year , in the sec championship. Playing in the conference championship didn't matter last year, only winning, despite your record. This year, complete opposite
Expanding will never be enough if you can’t beat the teams in front of you how can we trust them to win game in and game out for 3-4 games against the best bama can not do that alongside about 5-6 that are in currently but in reality there will always be 2-4 standout teams what we had before was good 8 at most
How can you get the best if every team don't play each other? The better team is an opinion. The SEC have BS teams that get the benefit of the doubt without playing good on the field.
I hate what's happening to college football. Rivalries are diluted and, over time, will fade away. Rivalries have always been the lifeblood of college football. Now being thrown away. Small market teams outside the top 30 teams have no chance to win anything and will eventually convert their programs to club sports. Texas and OU will be irrelevant. What happened to OU and Nebraska on Thanksgiving weekend? Give me back the Big 8 and SWC with ties to the Cotton Bowl and Orange Bowl. There has always and will always be arguments over a mythical national champion. Now seedings determine the "winner" instead of the AP poll. There is no material difference between the playoff, BCS, and AP/Coaches poll determining the NC. All have human bias. Now we are losing the best aspect of college ball. Highlighting what's happening at North Carolina, college ball is simply the NFL minor league. It sucks.
They’ll have to expand to 14 or 16 in 2026 to make sure that either the best 2 conference champs get a bye or no one gets a bye. They also need more games on campus sites. If you give teams who don’t win their conference, it makes conference title games meaningless and the conferences won’t give those up.
@@JohnMandockNotre Dame being a part time ACC team is ridiculous. They participate at their whimsical desires. What other school has that entitlement or privilege. This team has a 0% chance to reach the title games. In the SEC or BIG TEN, dependent on schedule this would be a 3 or 4 loss team. Notre Dame comes in highly ranked every year and plays a non competitive schedule relative to SEC teams and a lot of BIG TEN schedules. Ole Miss, SC, or Bama would be favored on a neutral field. I don't want to see the really good programs having to eliminate big out of conference games. SC will open with VA TECH. GA and Clemson are natural rivals and should meet every year in all sports. Michigan vs. Texas this year. LSU vs SO CAL. I want great matchups all year. Teams should be rewarded for this. Not punished. Would you rather see Clemson vs Georgia, or Georgia vs Georgia Southern? This committee is gonna water down and destroy the out of conference big time matchups. I respect SMU for a good season and a good year. Does anyone with a brain believe they bring anything to this 12 team playoff. Who in the SEC or BIG TEN would they be favored over ? Maybe half the teams.
12 is too many. We’re considering 9-3 teams for the last spots! But we want to preserve conference champions, fine. We want to consider college football as a whole, fine. That’s what the 9, 10, 11, & 12 spots can be for. Just give the Bye’s to the top 4 teams.
OSU fan here. I don’t think you should have a chance to win a natty if you didn’t win your conference. Absolutely awful that you can not be invited to your conference championship but still compete to take home the national championship. It will never happen because cash is king, but the purest approach is to rank the conference champions and let them duke it out. Even with the asymmetry of the conferences and $$$ differences. Conference champions should be the only teams competing for it all.
Regardless of the format, it could be 16 teams and everyone would complain about 17 through 20, if it was 24 teams, everyone would argue about 25 through 30, everyone will complain about something, I believe that 16 teams will probably be the number, but we might have to try 24 before it gets to that point, I'm not sure? What I do know this season has been incredible, I can't recall a season where so many good games were played all year long, and with so many eyes on the sport, BEST SPORT ON THE PLANET!!!
So Alabama gets the node even though they lost to not one, but two 6-6 teams 😂. They are not a top 12 team. “ but strength of schedule” well that doesn’t mean anything if you can’t beat the worst teams in your conference, let along even giving up over 40 points or not even scoring a touchdown to those said teams.
We all know they're going to 16, which will fix a lot of the format issues. There will be no more byes, so that part goes away. And you just do it like one of the regions in the Big Dance: rank the teams 1-16 and have 16 vs. 1, 15 vs. 2, etc.
This is all unnecessarily convoluted. The whole best team argument becomes asinine once the field gets this big. There's basically 140 FBS schools but everyone plays a 12 game season; there simply aren't enough data points to suggest that many teams are appreciably better than other teams in a collision sport with this few games. Raise it to 16 teams, lose the conference championships, lose the byes, and do random seeding against anyone who isn't in your conference for the 1st round unless mathematically necessary. There, that's the perfect playoff format.
I think they should play about six or seven games before they start ranking the teams because the issue is the Big 12 and the SEC starts out with so many teams in the top 10 it gives them an unfair Advantage right off the start so if they wait before they start ranking these teams several weeks then I think it'll put everything on a Level Playing Field
Josh, you need to get your hometown academy some help. Twice I've been in there on Saturdays with only 2 registers open, line backing up into the store. I'm not impatient, but no excuse for that during the holiday season.
They should take the top 4 G5/independents, and throw them each in a quadrant with the top 3 teams from each P4 conference in each quadrant and rock a true 16 bracket.
I like the straight top 16 seeds. Number 1 plays 16 and so on. Every conference champion is in, (which allows for the cinderella) and if you win your conference, you are automatically in the top 16.
Choose top 8 by rank. Then,, if the following teams are not already in, they are seeded in the next 8 teams: ACC champ, SEC champ, big 10 champ, Big 12 champ, Group of 5 highest ranked team. All other open spots in the second 8 will be filled by the next ranked teams not already in. These second 8 will play for four spots to add to the original top 8 ranked teams. No home field games.
Have 24 team playoff each. No conference championship games. Top eight ranked teams gets bye in round 1 and get a home game round 2. Each conference champion gets a home game. Weather its round 1 or 2. They all deserve that and top ranked teams get the other home games. And with 24 teams the Big 10 and SEC could still get at least 6 teams in. Which is what it’s all about. As long as those conferences get their way it will be ok.
The BCS wouldn't even have been bad if they didn't factor the AP and Coaches polls into the final rankings. A playoff system is better, but at least the computers didn't have bias. Would like to see an expanded playoff seeded by AI.
All the complaining about mediocre teams not being gifted a spot in the playoff is mind-numbing. Everyone knows Alabama,/South Carolina/Ole Miss aren't the best team in the country, they weren't even close to being the best team in their own conference. Win your conference, get a spot in the playoff. Why is actually winning games being seen by people as less important than vegas odds or some nebulous "eye test"? Just win games!
I like that bracket better.Schedules will change and I think conference championship games are about done. Unless they are treated as a bonus instead of a means to an end.
Best teams win their conference. They are actual winners. They have hardware. Something only 9 teams can say. Get all of them in the playoff, and then do extras from there. Lets do the FCS format. Its a good proven effective format that gives all conference champs a chance, and the best teams will still show to dominate as seen with the Valleys success in the format.
All conferences are not the same, look at the ACC and Big12. All teams except SMU were 15 or lower, should have had no chance to get in, just because you won a Conference Champ.
Can’t imagine there are enough people nationwide that want to see the MAC, Sun Belt, AAC or CUSA champ get blistered by the SEC champ. It’s all about the Money and those teams don’t generate revenue.
@@mnshws12 They quite literally are treated the same though. They are all FBS, the Committee says it takes the 5 best Conference champs, doesnt the P4, it says the 5 best. That means the other teams are treated equally. They are all Division 1 FBS, if they arent allowed a chance at the title, we need to resplit FBS and FCS. Thats not gonna happen, but it should if thats what we are gonna say that Over 3/4 of the teams have zero chance at all because of a media driven notion that all teams arent treated equal. All Conference Champs should be in. EVERY OTHER LEVEL OF FOOTBALL HAS THIS RIGHT. From Pee-Wee to HS to JUCO, to NAIA to Division 3,2 and FCS to the NFL. Its just the FBS that has a broken, incorrect format that doesnt reward a true national champion with all champs getting their shot
@@TheLEMRR There are more than enough fans, if there werent enough, they wouldnt be Divison 1 FBS, they would be down in the FCS or lower. They should be getting their opportunity just like every conference winner at every other level of CFB

This year it’s a Participation trophy and even the format is broken, won’t last after 26, want to bet?
It's not hard. Standard 16 team tournament. Like basketball, selected conference champs are automatically in, no byes. Rest of field chosen using help from computer metric with a some human input (ie to avoid rematches in 1st round, maybe injury, opt outs, etc). No Athletic Directors, conference commissioner or TV people on selection committee.
If you’re Ohio State or Tennessee, and you win the natty, in my mind it leaves no doubt that you are the champion, because you had to beat the best, and you did, so now you’re the best
I like that the conference championships get auto bid. If this didn't exist teams would "rest" players if they are in the top 5 teams. They need to provide value to the Conference Champs
Ranked? Who ranks whom? Why is a ranked team even considered? Ranking is an opinion not facts. It never has been a fact. The 12 best teams are subjective. Conference championships are 'Earned'. Side note: What happens if all schools have to be in a conference? Say, 8 conferences with 16 teams each or whichever covers all schools, then they play a 'Conference Championship' as the 'First Round' of the playoffs? Its effectively a 16 team playoff bracket with all of the 8 'Winners' advancing. No questions, all performance. "0" bias and scoreboard is your judge. Got a gripe? Just win.
At the start of the Season no team has earned the right to be ranked anywhere at that point so they need to play several games before they start ranking these teams
7 conferences of 9 or 10 teams Round-Robin conference schedule Playing other conference opponents for non-con games 6 home games, 6 away games No conference title games 16 team playoff Conference champs get in
Josh do not wanna see SEC teams in the same bracket because he says it's the same game as the regular season, but dont mine if they play each other in the championship game. Mr. SEC hypocrite
The recipe for the best 12 teams being ranked in the top 12 is there needs a national conference where all these teams are playing one another and eliminating certain conferences being more difficult and affecting their w/l record and seeding teams with easier schedules with better w/l records. If every team in the country had a good amount of SEC teams in their schedule no one would be undefeated rn
Josh, last point, do you understand that next year Ind should play Ore, Georgia, Tenn, Old Miss and SC to come close to an Alabama schedule. So make sure when you talk about a bad loss, I agree, but give me a good win by Indiana this year. Next year it will v3 the same. Oregon with 2 top 25 teams, what a joke!
The best format would be 4-6 team confer ne playoffs. And let the top 4-6 conference playoff winners play in a championship playoff. There would be elimination games the entire month of December. So it’s great for the fans, inventory for tv companies, everyone is including, and the horrible committee would be removed From the process
The problem with your guests ideas are it becomes an invitational then and we’ve seen the clear biases toward the SEC. If they had it their way this year there would’ve been at least six SEC teams. It’s no different at the start of every year all the so-called experts have all the SEC teams ranked in the top 10 what would change?
The playoff selection process is effectively a DEI or affirmative action effort. Those efforts are not designed to create excellance and they rarely do.
I said the exact same thing a few days ago. What y'all are gonna see is the lopsided scores from this dumpster fire called the playoffs. Provided the refs does the right thing and allow them to play without the constant stoppages from the excessive amount of flags thrown. It could be an all SEC Championship or one SEC and one B10 . The rest are nothing more than fluff and window dressing to give the fanatics the illusion of a real playoff game.
The biggest eye sore for college football is evaluation of teams. Stop evaluating teams off of recruiting. That is one of the biggest mistakes for the media. AP and CP polls are flaud and outdated. Love for a reply for a real discussion. I believe there is a better metric for the modern times. N.I.L. and TRANFER PORTAL have changed EVERYTHING. I truly believe there is a fix, would love to talk about it. Ignoring the obvious is going to kill college football. Oh, and you never talked about an actual fix, click bait. Smh
I hate when they say “best team”… Alabama on paper is one of the “best teams” but they way they played inconsistent do they really deserve a a shot at the national championship?
I’m usually on board with what you all talk about. But this take is silly (politely stupid) The only model that works is one with -auto-bid for EVERY conference champion with maybe the top 4 conference champs with a first round bye. -expand to 16 or 20 teams -invite the top 4 FCS programs to participate. This “top 12 only” talk is stupid. And it’s rude. And it’s outdated.
If everyone played each other and excluded the FCS teams, then we could truly get closer to the best 12 teams! But you guys wanna do all this Pimp slick talk and get your preferred SEC teams involved.
You guys can’t see the forest through the trees. The longer you have the auto bid system, the more the talent will filter downstream to the rest of college football. Why be a backup’s backup at Alabama when you can compete for a playoff spot as a starter at Boise? If you stick with this system the lack of competitive balance that has you hating the system will improve.
I'd love for the computers to come back! I don't trust these "committees" for a million different reasons.. The BCS formula felt dated to me at the time and I wanted humans ranking the teams, but it's clear these "committees" are frauds.. I personally think an 8 team playoff with no byes and chosen by a mathematical formula that everyone can agree on would be perfect..
I will only watch our bowl. I’d like Ga to win or Texas but they’re beat up from championship. I’ll hear about it. I am moving on to BB. Geez Bama just beat Creighton!

We didn't play to potential hell no we shouldn't be in I'm not here to argue, but I seen 1 team get by several games by the skin of their ass and act like they dominated this year
"12 best teams." im out. The moment somebody says this, the whole convo becomes irrelevant. Best is subjective. Has no place in determining anything. Objective metrics, or admit you'd rather watch a buety pagent.
4 leagues of 64 teams divided into 4 conferences. 16 team playoff. Each conference sends their top 4 into the playoff. The playoff creates the conference champions as the final 4. East, West, South, Midwest. Top 4 and bottom 4 teams promoted and relegated to the next league each year. We need to stop trying to “fix the playoff” and we need to fix college football.
This rewards the top 25% of each league with a chance at the championship, gives every school a clear path to the top league, punishes schools with brand identity but keep losing, creates a conference championship game without an extra game. Conference power? Each school is part of two conferences and we do realignment every 4 years. This gives every school a chance to play each conference opponent twice. This all got screwed up because we decided the old way was bad(it was) and started doing playoffs but playoffs are all about balance and you can’t have balance when two conferences have all the power, when some schools play tough schedules and others don’t. College football could really take a page from European soccer leagues. Still want byes? Then take the top 3 from each conference and still do a 12 team. Whatever but what we’re doing now is absolutely stupid.
Top 16 teams based on rankings in the polls. Take the AP, coaches, even the BCS and take the average poll placement. No byes. 1 plays 16, 2 plays 15 and so on. High seed gets home game for first 2 rounds. Bowls get the last 2 rounds. No committees. Conference champs will obviously have higher rankings and that's the benefit to winning your Conference, a higher placement or seed in the tournament. No automatic bids.
I don’t think you could actually get rid of the committee. Even if you didn’t call it a committee, you’d have humans making the rankings. Doesn’t the AP poll also get made by humans?
Pick a number, it could be say top 50 strength of schedule, or it could be 60 since there are about 120 teams in the mix. If your schedule isn’t in the top 50/60 strength wise, you are ineligible for the playoff. I think it’s silly having arguments over who is 12th to get in because there are half a dozen teams that could make the argument because of the primary problem figuring out who’s the best in college football. They don’t play enough games! While people are worrying about putting the computers in charge again, they seem to be ignoring the original problem that kicked the playoffs off to begin with. Teams intentionally scheduling schools that can’t match up with them competitively to pad their stats and their schedule. Not your fault who you played during a season? Ridiculous! If you don’t happen to play a schedule that can make it into the top 50 strength wise, why would you think you’ve earned a shot at a national title? You haven’t played and beaten enough teams to justify a shot. From a weaker conference that perennially isn’t very good? You better be scheduling some out of conference teams that are. Sometimes those out of conference teams aren’t any good? Then why would you think you’ve earned an opportunity to play for a national title? Going undefeated beating a bunch of teams that can’t even go 500? Going undefeated is cool, you’ve earned a bowl game somewhere, just not a shot at the playoff because you’ve never played anybody proving you’ve earned a spot. But leaving a team out that played several tough games and lost a couple, over a team that never played anybody good but didn’t lose is rewarding the wrong people.
12 teams is too many! That's the problem! Even with the greatly improved parity, playing all these games risks the health of players so that Boise St can get a home playoff game?!?! It's insane! Kennesaw State has ZERO business playing in the highest level off CFB. There is already a completely adequate CFB playoff system its the FCS. 70 teams need to move into that system tomorrow. Sorry, Boise State, you've got a great team, but nobody wants to sit in a 36k capacity stadium in Idaho in January for your home jackoff. What are we doing? Destroying conferences, annihlating regional rivalries, and making Conference Championships and compelling matchups in bowl games meaningless to end up with some variety of Oregon, Texas, UGA and whoever in the top 4?
@@MattBuild4 I'm not against Boise St.. One of the greatest football games I've ever watched was Boise St. over Oklahoma in the Fiesta. Appalachian State over Michigan. GEEEEEEZZZZ! M-A-G-I-C! But you cannot operate a 130 team league by structuring it to create these magical instances while pretending that Boise States schedule and Alabama's schedule is in the same universe of equal. It's just not. Boise State doesn't belong in the G5 because they are literally, realistically, historically, geographically, economically, statistically, desirably, functionally inconsistent with Michigan, Texas, Miami, USC, Ohio St, Washington, Florida State, OR VANDERBILT. Nobody on planet earth wants to travel to Boise Idaho in December to watch football on smur turf. The disinterest in that nonsense will kill college football. And in the effort to make this fair for Boise (who WILL NOT BE IN TOP 4) while casually destroying College Football is madness. So while I think Boise has a fantastic team in 2024.. to hell with the needs of Boise State, Kennesaw State, Jacksonville State, Grand Canyon University and whoever else doesn't have the media interest, fan backing, facilities and/or history to participate to make them a viable participant in the Football BOWL Subdivision. Drop 70 teams off the top of FBS, make championship games and compelling bowl matchups relevant again and for crying out loud.. lets stop arguing about "who's the most 12th ranked team". It's gross.
The perfect playoff format at least includes every conference champion. I don’t give a shit if the SEC champion beats the MAC winner by 60 points. Every team in the country should at least have a chance to win the championship
Oh, please! You lose 3 games you’re not one of the 12 best teams - if you’re (SEC apologists) still whining about Alabama not being selected then have Alabama join an easier conference - big fish, small pond. This is where the “eye test” argument is specious. A bunch of highly paid, big star athletes didn’t have a good season - move on.
If you want conference champs in the playoffs do that. But why give them the top seeds? Why a first round bye? I think 12 is too many. I think 8 is the right number with no byes. Too many games. Too many injuries will result. There has never been a college season where the 9th or lower ranked teams had a legitimate gripe that they were the champions. But if you had an 8 team field with no byes or seeds given to undeserving conference champs Notre Dame might get left out. Can’t have that can we? Btw, NDs schedule (60) is almost as weak as Boise State (79) and so is Indiana (67)
I can't believe I'm saying this but here's what I think now 13 game regular season 10 conference games 1 ooc game not decided by the schools No conference championship game 16 team playoff 6 conferences represented Teams are seeded as their ranked

Could you imagine 16 teams right now with 1 thru 8 hosting? The matchups are amazing!
This only makes sense... I don't know why everybody can't see it the way you just laid it out. I've saying this since the format initially came out.

They need a BCS style formula and eliminate the committee so we can remove biases. This way teams are ranked according to schedule strength and the strength of your opponents schedule and valuing quality wins and punishing bad losses.
Don’t act as if the BCS would have no biases. We know that’s not true
Fascinating how its a problem that Boise State is an auto-bid, when for 15 YEARS they got shafted by lower ranked auto-bid P5 teams.....
If boys state played in the big 10 or the S. E c, they would have at least 3 or 4 losses minimum. That's the truth
@@JohnMandock Then put them in your conference and lets find out.....
Even that were true by this seasons standards that would mean their 9th best team of all time is a borderline playoff team.
@MattBuild4 nobody scared of boise state. Trust me
The running bag piled up all his statistics on scrub teams except oregon.
Who decides who are the best 12 teams is the problem
Exactly
ESPN
The people who do the rankings have a lot of prejudices so just going by rankings is stupid. Teams just don't play enough games to give an accurate value of who is better.
100 agree! Make schedules comparable, I don’t care what conference, and if you can’t, tells me you hav3 a terrible schedule or conference!
Remember when Georgia got snubbed with a one loss record last year , in the sec championship. Playing in the conference championship didn't matter last year, only winning, despite your record. This year, complete opposite
We should let the top seeded teams CHOOSE their opponents. Imagine the cinema.
As usual, Cole brings level headed and reasonable takes to the convo. Love his views. Great show.
It sucks.
I doubt they get rid of rivalries games. The tv companies value those of everything. And the whole sport revolves around what is good for espn and fox
This take after what happened in rivalry week is insane. Rivalries are still just as important as they were.
They’ll have to expand to 14 or 16 in 2026 to make sure that either the best 2 conference champs get a bye or no one gets a bye. They also need more games on campus sites. If you give teams who don’t win their conference, it makes conference title games meaningless and the conferences won’t give those up.
I agree with more on campus sites.
notre dame needs to be put in a conference.
I agree, it's absolutely ridiculous. I'm sick and tired of notre dame playing their weak schedules and everything
Want some cheese to go with that whine.
I’m not mad or happy about bama, they’ve had their time, it’s time for a new era
All years are like this, some even better. We have just never had legit access to the post season before
3 best teams from each conference!!
Since there are 9 conferences in the FBS, that equates to a 27 team playoff.
SEC just want more teams in than other conferences.
Exactly they know if they dont get the deck stacked in their favor as they have with the 4 team format their reign is over…
ding ding ding. "best 12 teams in" is code for all sec teams. because the shills know they shill the sec teams as being the best.
@tgrfan42069 ikr
Let's see how this goes
So Alabama gets the node even though they lost to not one, but two 6-6 teams 😂. They are not a top 12 team. “ but strength of schedule” well that doesn’t mean anything if you can’t beat the worst teams in your conference, let along even giving up over 40 points or not even scoring a touchdown to those said teams.
Why are we trying to change something that hasn’t even played out ONCE?
Because snowflake SEC fans got their feelings hurt
Because it’s easy to see problems now before the whole process plays out. No need to wait.
They are small minded. All they do is talk sports lol. Not a lot of thinkers.
16 teams, every conference gets an autobid, BCS seeds the qualifiers. Reseed after each round.
Like it, reseeding is interesting idea
I think they should play about six or seven games before they start ranking the teams because the issue is the Big 12 and the SEC starts out with so many teams in the top 10 it gives them an unfair Advantage right off the start so if they wait before they start ranking these teams several weeks then I think it'll put everything on a Level Playing Field
Damn...... first time in a few years I agreed with Cubelic!! TOP 12 only!!!!
If you have to vote teams into the playoffs, they will never get it right. We need a system for teams to play their way in
Yes you get it!
An “airing of grievances”?!? Well, I guess it is the Festivus season after all.
I like the straight top 16 seeds. Number 1 plays 16 and so on. Every conference champion is in, (which allows for the cinderella) and if you win your conference, you are automatically in the top 16.
Too many...half of the top 25 is roughly 12, and four byes are perfect... Expanding that screws with that.
if the best AFC South team ends up below .500 but first in their division, they go to the playoffs. Its just how it is.
Which is dumb. There should be a rule where you don't get a top 4 place if you're below .500.
College Football has the greatest regular season in sports. The playoffs will destroy it.
"Had" and "have destroyed". It is too late.
Capping it at three per league fixes this…
i agree 100%
Playoffs need scrapping. Winning the SEC, B1G etc is and should be a big deal. National titles are unnecessary anyway. Go to the NFL for that.
Exactly
@@limitlessmdrt you don’t get it! Do you! In basketball you can win your Confrence but you don’t get an automatic seed, you just. And get it! That’s because all confrences are not equal, and if you don’t understand that, you have no idea what you are talking about.
7 conferences of 9 or 10 teams
Round-Robin conference schedule
Playing other conference opponents for non-con games
6 home games, 6 away games
No conference title games
16 team playoff
Conference champs get in
Josh do not wanna see SEC teams in the same bracket because he says it's the same game as the regular season, but dont mine if they play each other in the championship game. Mr. SEC hypocrite
8 teams. Thats all thats needed.
I like the four team playoff.
Most teams outside SEC teams would have 3 losses or more of that happened
Most teams would have 3 losses or more. Oregon would've been beat multiple times if playing SEC teams
Teams like SMU and Boise wouldnt even be able to make to top 12
Josh, last point, do you understand that next year Ind should play Ore, Georgia, Tenn, Old Miss and SC to come close to an Alabama schedule. So make sure when you talk about a bad loss, I agree, but give me a good win by Indiana this year. Next year it will v3 the same. Oregon with 2 top 25 teams, what a joke!
Plus “best team” makes conferences irrelevant and at that point it’s a popularity contest
The best format would be 4-6 team confer ne playoffs. And let the top 4-6 conference playoff winners play in a championship playoff.
There would be elimination games the entire month of December. So it’s great for the fans, inventory for tv companies, everyone is including, and the horrible committee would be removed From the process
What we've got is pretty good by comparison... Only thing we really need is a reseed, simple.

Smh
You get it
I hate when they say “best team”… Alabama on paper is one of the “best teams” but they way they played inconsistent do they really deserve a a shot at the national championship?
Only 2 conferences matter. If they want to prove it they can. The bottom 3 of the power 5 can not survive on their own.
I’m usually on board with what you all talk about. But this take is silly (politely stupid)
The only model that works is one with
-auto-bid for EVERY conference champion with maybe the top 4 conference champs with a first round bye.
-expand to 16 or 20 teams
-invite the top 4 FCS programs to participate.
If you stick with this system the lack of competitive balance that has you hating the system will improve.
they are sec homers though. they dont want talent down stream. they want it solely in their conference.
12 better than 4 teams
4 better than 2 teams
However, it still have value judgements and a system that is purely merit based
MSM loves the drama
I will only watch our bowl. I’d like Ga to win or Texas but they’re beat up from championship. I’ll hear about it. I am moving on to BB. Geez Bama just beat Creighton!
How is SMU still in when Clemson beat them? I think Alabama should be in instead of SMU anyways but I digress
TOP 12 teams
Auto bids conference champs
NO auto seeds
First round home games
Second round HOME games
Semi finals bowl games
Losers go to 4 other bowl games
National Final
Just give us the best 12 teams.
All of the sudden it does not work for the sec and boom! It’s not fair lol 😂😂😂😂
Will you be laughing if we get another boring blowout like TCU v. Georgia?
Bama was not a good team.if they were they would not have gotten thier breaks beat off to a 6-6
Bama was a good team. They just weren’t a great team. Good teams can and will have bad games.
Out of the 12-team bracket, there are only 5 teams that can actually win the championship.
Guessing at who is best is the worst idea in sports. No sport does this because it is ignorant and foolish
@@Rio_der_Reiserget the humans and rankings out of it like all other sports and levels of football…
More people are saying “eff this sport” now more than you realize. This game has gone to trash.
You cannot claim the P5 is about competition as long as Boise State is in the G5.
Still crying about bama. This is the problem!!
Best is a terrible criteria. Always has been
Perfect bracket, Ohio St. and Or in same bracket, nobody wants to possibly see them face off in the 2 nd game.
Go to SEC form their own playoff suggestions?
Oh, please! You lose 3 games you’re not one of the 12 best teams - if you’re (SEC apologists) still whining about Alabama not being selected then have Alabama join an easier conference - big fish, small pond. This is where the “eye test” argument is specious. A bunch of highly paid, big star athletes didn’t have a good season - move on.
lol I’m done trying to figure out or say what’s the best format
It’s to much complaining and to much headache
Alabama was one of the 12 “best” teams but they simply did not deserve to make the playoffs. Those losses to Oklahoma and Vanderbilt STUNK
Stop putting Bama in and you will get more traction
If you want conference champs in the playoffs do that. But why give them the top seeds? Why a first round bye? I think 12 is too many. I think 8 is the right number with no byes. Too many games. Too many injuries will result. There has never been a college season where the 9th or lower ranked teams had a legitimate gripe that they were the champions. But if you had an 8 team field with no byes or seeds given to undeserving conference champs Notre Dame might get left out. Can’t have that can we? Btw, NDs schedule (60) is almost as weak as Boise State (79) and so is Indiana (67)
I wish one of y'all would wear a hat
Oregon got screwed lmao but anyway ROLL MFK TIDE
Thank you..finally someone from another big time program admits Oregon got screwed..Go Ducks
@ericwaggoner6195 yeah yall earned that #1 spot far greater than those mid ass top 4 seeds
I can't believe I'm saying this but here's what I think now
13 game regular season
10 conference games
1 ooc game not decided by the schools
No conference championship game
16 team playoff
6 conferences represented
Teams are seeded as their ranked
I say keep it at 12 regular season games but agree with 9-10 conference games.
