"A story. A man fired many years with his gun, and finally moving into the war after he gives his rifle in the armory, and believes that he has nothing now to do more with the gun, but no matter what he concluded. now doing with his hands ... if he loves a woman, build a house, changed the diapers of his son ... his hands remember the rifle before. "
This is the original and was first released in 1971. A tune way ahead of it's time. It was then brought back into the modern world by dj shadow and remixed again for the film the fast and the furious tokyo drift.
Listening to this song and reading the comments has got me thinking on what exactly the song is reffering to. While it is indeed possible that the song is talking about the 1967 Arab-Israeli war (known as the six day war), I'm thinking it is far more likely that the song is about a potential Nuclear war. Take the following into account: 1) the song came out in 1971, which while it is only 4 years after the so named war, places it firmly in the middle of the cold war; when tensions were at their highest. 2) The images evoked by the lyrics are of a bombing, and those particular lyrics only appear in the later parts of the song, meaning later in the war. The bombings in the six day war occured in the very begining (mind you I don't remember all of the details). The following is personal opinion, but I myself feel that the images that come to mind listening to this song are those of a nuclear war. 3) Nuclear fear was at its highest during the cold war, the lyrics quite firmly state "Ain't it funny how men think, they made the bomb they are extinct" while alluding to "doomsday" as well as "I think tommorow's come, I think it's too late" Implying total destruction. 4) while it is sad to say so, the british have quite firmly proven themselves to not care about other ethnicities (not really saying they are racists, but rather apathetic) and while the Arab-Israeli war was a tragic event that never should have happened, I think that at that point they would have been far more afraid of the possible ramifications of nuclear war - rather than a conflict that occured that far away. Then again the artist might be far smarter than we give him credit and he could have been reffering to both, which now that I think about it is the most likely scenario.
Agreed, we as a species have created weapons that are capable of turning our planet into an uninhabitable death zone. Our technology has advanced so fast and yet we have been unable to keep up socially and morally. All it takes is for one crazed politician to push everyone over the edge and then life as we know it is...well....gone.
I've thought about that a lot. I think it's a direct comparison to the Six Day War, but the greater metaphor is about unending war and nuclear annihilation. I think the idea of a "Six Day" war is supposed to be taken ironically considering that conflict has been going on much longer than that, and is still going on. The idea is that "a six day war resolves nothing, it leads to more war". At least that's how I see it.
If you listen to the lyrics, the chronology doesn't match any of the three Six day wars in history ... Never mind the 1967 Israeli war. It could be about a potential Nuclear war or it be alluding to the common practice in contemporary warfare to rest the soldiers after six days of fighting. So every soldier is trying to survive a six day war, over and over again ...
@bigdealneil1983 Colonel Bagshot was a Liverpool band of the late-60s/early-70s. They did have several singles issued and an LP. Writer of this song is guitarist Kenny Parry.
is it weird that i wanna cry when i hear this? maybe because "tomorrow never comes until it is too late" is too damn true... it's just too damn true for some people....
I love this song but originally heard it through a drum and bass sample, I just had to listen to the original and yes I like both and no I had never heard of the mos def version but recently have listened to it. I prefer the original and the drum and bass version to mos def but still the song carries a strong message and I appreciate mos def for reliterating the message.
See Colonel Bagshot at the Carling Academy in Liverpool on Friday 23rd November with other 1970s Liverpool bands. First vocalist on this song is guitarist Kenny Parry; then vocalist Brian Farrell takes it up.
I found this because of the DJ Shadow/Mos Def remix. I didnt know what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised, not blown away or anything, but a good song never the less

This is a great song and I'm glad artists like DJ Shadow have sampled it at least in part of its glory to introduce it to new audiences. It's just too bad that those audiences happened to be the lobotomized prats who actually paid to watch Tokyo Drift in theaters. :(
Bombs do sound scary when they fall down. They always show videos of rockets goin up, and the bursting sound they make when they lift off. When they go down, that sound sends shivers down the spine.

They were the coming together of several individuals from mid-60s bands, the original line-up being a six piece before three left and Kenny Parry came in on lead guitar. Top band in Liverpool in the late-60s/early '70s, and really deserved to make it to the top.
They both have a nice combination must say the DJ Shadow kinda chillout vibes all forms of music exist as a form of expression from a different angle of existences. The version of "Six Days" used in Tokyo Drift was not the original Dj Shadow version either it was a remix from the Six Days ep featuring Mos Def there was also another version remixed by Soulwax released on the Mashing On The Motorway ep using a sampled drum line by the B52s.
Wrong. DJ Shadow released his original version of "Six Days" in 200s. The remix wasn't created for the film, either--in fact it was included in the end credits of a film from 2003, years before Tokyo Drift. But, it was included in the film and its soundtrack.
