As a Turk, I am as surprised as you are when I look at Turkey. The eastern regions are truly ancient. its bar is full of cities built with Roman architecture. pure mediterranean climate in the south. its north is covered with forests of the blacksea. I am not sure if there is any other country in the world that has such a historical and natural diversity. Would you look at Mardin? You think it's an ancient city ruin, but people still live. Assyrians, Muslims, Christians and Zoroastrians all together. they've been there for thousands of years. I never went. but it feels distant and foreign, like a los angeles. yet there are only 400 kilometers between us
I am not sure but was mardin built in the mesopotamian era? The architecture of the city seems like also the eastern part of turkey has a lot of mesopotamian heritage
