Had a roof problem and water was getting in. Went up on the roof and we had the older 2 tab shingles. Took the spray and coated the areas between the tabs and solved the leak and it only took 4 cans of spray. 4 cans of spray instead of a new roof and it lasted for 4 years until we did actually put a new roof on the house. Great stuff...
I also used Flex Seal on my roof around the chimney area. It worked REALLY well for two years. Hot summer sun along with usual weather elements will break down if used outside and especially on an exposed roof area. I was happy until I wasn't.
I sprayed this stuff on my entire roof now it leaks even worse and all my neighbors are laughing at me. And then a giant Crow landed on the roof it kind of freaked me out so I sprayed it with the flex seal big mistake that thing got pissed started attacking me and packing out my eyes and then I fell off the roof I broke my collarbone I would not advise using this s*** for the love of God call the roofer
lol I saw that commercial for the first time the other day, when he goes zooming around the lake I started laughing, wonder if they had a rescue boat on standby...
Buy the real roof repair stuff like Black Jack or Henry's Roof Cement that's all they do is R&D on there products to use on roofs only. Not to put a screed door on a aluminum boat and whoo-hoo around in a commercial.
What a waste of time. Do you know that the neoprene boots can be bought at your local roofing supply . Caulk the top of the old one and then pull the new boot over the stack pipe. $3.00 versus 7.00. 5 minutes compared to 15 minutes . The boot tops never last more than 12 to 15 years. If the original install had been caulked on top with a urethane caulk then the sunshine UVRAYS would not dry the top out and crack. Larry Crookshanks 45 years on the roofs.
Black knight (and other brands) has a paint on tar which is extremely better than flex seal. It is also around the same price. Flew seal doesn't hold up to the weather.
Who's the genius that installed your boots? They're both installed wrong. There are exposed nail heads and they're not even sealed. Nails need to be under the shingles.
I don't know who did the roof, I was up there to test a product not inspect the roof. I agree with you that nails should always be covered but there are some exceptions, like when you finish up the caps, usually there are exposed nails and my solution has been to cover then with some good caulk or a dab of cold ap roof patch. Appreciate the post
If you think water is still not going to slide into that shingle and hit the nail your fucking idiot you're supposed to nail 3 on the top and one down at the bottom in the middle and you put caulk over it only reason why I consider this one installed incorrectly is because the metal flashing other pipe collar is going past a whole shingle itself that shingle supposed to be over the pipe collar with just a little bit of the pipe collar showing from being on top of the previous shingle I've gone behind roofers like you thousands of times who like to nail on the sides yeah those pipe collars leak within than 5 to 6 years
Lol pipe collars were installed correctly.. you DO NOT PUT NAILS IN THE TOP OF A PIPE COLLAR... you run your Shingle.. usually it's about 3 full shingle then you start to run over top and you nail your shingle and pipe collar at the edge of the pipe collar.. and three at bottom with cualk.. pause it when he shows the second pipe collar.. yea they could've cut the second shingle back some to match the shingle below..
Flex Seal is horrible. It cakes. It dries out. It flakes off. It leaves voids...like dried bubbles. I would sue them, but it would mean sinking even more money into dealing with such a bad product. It splits, dries, cakes, and does not work. It does all of the bad shit it was not supposed to do.
yep missys hubby is spot on I tried the exact same repair in this video with flex seal and 3 months later all the flex seal I had put on was cracked everywhere
Ive used flex seal to fix my rad in my old car...it worked 😂 held up for 2 years until someone smashed my car by running a red light and the rad still didnt leak!
I highly doubt flex seal worked on your radiator of all things when the stuff can’t even hold water in a bucket. As hot as a radiator can get.......for 2 years.......flex seal.......I doubt it.
That is pure garbage I’m a roof and seen a bunch of people use this trash all it does is makes a mess for us roofers to fix. Stick to roof cement will work better then this dog shit in a can
I live in North Carolina and it's a tropical depression coming through thanks flex seal....for nothing. WTF! Bro I don't need anyone to show me how to use a spray can, thanks again for helping me prevent water damage. 🖕
WWAAAAYYY to many words 3 minutes for a 15 second show. It says on the can to hold 12-18" away. I used it twice on gutters. Didn't help a bit (just a short time)
Don't make the effort of going on a roof just to put this crap on. Put a glob of silicone in the void. It will last MUCH longer! And don't listen to those people who saay it won't work on asphalt. Get the best stuff with superior or 7x/ lifetime adhesion. It works!
Definitely a bad product for roof repairs. Temporary fix for sure. The easiest way to fix this would be to just buy a $3 rubber pipe flange at Home Depot and slide over the old one.
For something simple like that I would use Karnak in the caulk bottle version this way u can control where u put the stuff and how much thickness u want to add. Thanks for the time in making the video though.
interesting, I did not know that. I'm in Ohio so my reviews are based off of my weather, right now we are in the 90's but I know you guys can get some serious heat down there, especially in the sun. appreciate the post
It works just fine in flordia, i have personally done hundreds of risers with flex seal, and have been doing it for years and i have never had a customer complain about any leaks.... This stuff is amazing and cheap
I have 20 years of Roofing experience. Witnessed Flex Seal And similar products used by those DIY homeowner know it all types eat apart the shingles in every area it touched them around pipes and chimneys.
Yeah,I saw the same thing.A lady I know had me check her skylights that were leaking and she already had somebody use flex seal the year before. The Flex Seal was brittle and cracking.
Nice roof, looks new. If that thing seals a screen door and they can float across a pond, it looks like good stuff. Just wonder what the heat tolerance is. Good video!
+Craig Arndt I'm doing a follow up on it when spring gets here and another at the end of the season as winter is rolling in. Should give a good indication of how well it holds up. I've used other similar products before but not this one. so far so good
Flex Seal is not what most people think, just like i thought. It is a temp fix only. There is another video showing a guy who sprayed his vent rubber roof boots just like you did and 6 months later the Flex Seal was brittle and crumbling. Definitely do not use flex seal on roofs but thank you sir for your trying to help people. Thank you. I was going to use it on my mortar chimney cap to seal it. I am so glad I did not do it. CrownCoat is the only thing I will use for now on.
Charles I had the same experience. I did this video as a review of flex seal, they sent me some product to test and I went with it. I was suprised at the result. I did a video on what it looked like at six months. here is the link ua-cam.com/video/MvldjXH6cPo/v-deo.html
You used Flex Seal in a spray can like in this video? I bought a can, but it puts out too thin of a stream for me to take it seriously. I’m going to try the much thicker Flex Paste (comes in a tub) on my roof.
Don't use flex seal on your roof! The flex seal reacts with your Asphalt shingles and eats them up. I've seen a few of these repairs that ended up causing more problems. If you're not ready to change the pipe collar for whatever reason just use caulk.
New boot would cost less or about equal to a can of flex seal. . . and it would look much better IMHO. I'm a firm believer, I can watch a video like this and learn what to do, or what not to do. Thanks for posting.
Dean, first off I just want to say thank you for posting a comment that disagrees with what I'm saying but doing it respectfully. This seems to be a lost art on UA-cam. I happen to agree with you, the replacement boot is the better way to go. For this video I was reviewing a product that was sent to me for testing and I chose this as my test. I have a follow up video on this if you are interested, shows results at around the six month point. Thanks again for the post - BB
I have an old really worn wood pergola. Especially the top slats. Since my only next step would be to demolish it I'm going to try flex seal paste on the top of the 2x4 slats. What do you think?? The rest of the wood isn't that bad so I'm just patching with wood filler and painting it.
Do it right... Replace the boot for about $6.00 at Lowes. I just replaced two at my house. Very fast and easy, five minutes. Anything you spray out of a can won't last more that one year. Too thin. UV will kill it fast.
I hate to hurt this guy's feelings, but that flex seal probabbly isn't good for anything but maybe better than used chewing gum, it belongs on late night t.v. infomercials hosted by Bill Mays (R.I.P). If you want it done right the first time/last time use Henry's "extreme" rubberized wet patch (the most expensive version of the Henry's wet patch) Home Depot on the shelf stuff. Comes in calk tube for small jobs like this. The "extreme" rubberized version has UV blocking additives to prevent harsh sunlight u.v. rays from shrinking and cracking (lifetime warranty if you use the backing mesh sold separately). Last weekend I used the gallon size to re-tar the flashing around my chimmney..it's quality stuff, user freiendly, doesn't dry too fast and does stay flexible but has a dry feel after curing. Do read all instructions and on the can. Wear proper gloves. I used charcoal lighter fluid to clean off tools plus a few areas that got on my skin. The Henry's is not too thick to use a brush to spread and smooth it. As a side note, I noticed H.D. sold replacement boots, so you might also want to consider replacing the boot, than tar it. If you use the backing mesh you might want to follow up with a second coat the next day. This may sound too intensely laborous and expensive, but over time it is cheaper and of course much less labor (d.i.r.t.f.t)
Henry's is good stuff I used it all the time and it never let me down, the cold ap was my go to. This was a can that was sent to me for testing. This vid was the test I also have a follow up at 6 months uploaded that shows how it held up
As a roofer. I Hate hearing that someone put flexseal down to patch a leak or flash a pipe. It doesn't last. And when you do go to fix it correctly the next time it can actually keep your repair from adhering. Causing the leak to continue.
I can’t speak for flex seal but I live in central FL and I’ve used the gorilla glue brand rubberized spray for things like gutter leaks and small roof repairs. I’ve never had to go back because of a failure. I check on the repairs at the end of every year and no problems yet after 6 years
Can you drill holes in your roof and then use that spray to seal them up........like in the commercial....sealing the entire boat and then take it for a ride?
Dont use this stuff. Use an exterior sealant made for siding or even tar they make special boots for those. Go to any roof store, they come in 2 pieces
That stuff is not for a roof. Its not meant to be in sun all day, every day. Especially on a roof that's well over a hundred degrees in the summer heat. Roof is not new. And they used metal Nails on aluminum that causes electrolysis, basically melts/ roots the aluminum over time.
True Talk I have a chimney leak & I sprayed flex steel all over the over it as a temporary fix until the weather improved. It appears to have stopped the leak but I'm concerned how long it will hold.
I'm not happy with the results, sounds like same thing with your rv. I would say shy away from using this for anything exterior unless its for a temporary solution. Henry cold ap cement works good and will last a long time
I did this exact same thing, 2 months later the roof started leaking again. So this time I used the equivalent of 2 full cans of flex seal, we had severe thunderstorms 2 weeks later and now it leaks worse then it originally did so now I m out the money for the flex seal and the costs to install new boots.... Flex seal is good for somethings but not roofs!!
Great job, I need to repair some leaks I appreciate your video, and no you cannot please everyone there is always at least one Jackass out there!!! Always will be! Thanks, Billy
we installed a covering over the back porch, with metal sheets, and there are places where it leaks, likely due to position of the screws, obviously we need to make a patch for that but will this stuff seal the holes? the metal is that roofing tin that comes in 38 inch wide sheets with ridges
I had a boot with a crack but the post with the boot on it had a hydro line connected to it so I could not use the Perma Boot without calling in the hydro company. I used a product called Stretch N Seal - its a silicone tape. It seems to have done the job - I will check in the fall to see how it holds up.
you need to put a tiny piece of paper over the little holes so the Flex don't drip down it don't dry instant. If not applied with some common since it will not be full proof. It may look like it covered at first and you may say great it worked then never coming back to check your work then come back later and claim Flex is no good. Sometime a smart person will come back to check on his work especially when working on roof. Like the say when your cutting wood measure twice and cut once....
I must be a smart person then because I went up there two weeks after I shot this and put another coat on it and then I had to do a video six months later showing how it didn't hold up at all!!!!! I do not recommend this product for roof repair. If you choose to go against my recommendation I suggest you buy some buckets :-)
Had a roof problem and water was getting in. Went up on the roof and we had the older 2 tab shingles. Took the spray and coated the areas between the tabs and solved the leak and it only took 4 cans of spray. 4 cans of spray instead of a new roof and it lasted for 4 years until we did actually put a new roof on the house. lol I saw that commercial for the first time the other day, when he goes zooming around the lake I started laughing, wonder if they had a rescue boat on standby...
Repair starts at 3:01 you're welcome
For a temporary fix a $3 tube of roofing cement would have done the trick, versus a $13 can of that junk
I knew I was doing right with the roof tar in a tube. Rather than this crap.
Buy the real roof repair stuff like Black Jack or Henry's Roof Cement that's all they do is R&D on there products to use on roofs only. Not to put a screed door on a aluminum boat and whoo-hoo around in a commercial.
D Kat I agree with using products made for roof applications but Henry’s isn’t much better, try Through The Roof by Sashco
Thank you ... most especially for naming products by name
What a waste of time. Do you know that the neoprene boots can be bought at your local roofing supply . We’re just going to spray a little down here... Uses the whole can. 😂😂😂 Such a wack repair.
Black knight (and other brands) has a paint on tar which is extremely better than flex seal. It is also around the same price. Flew seal doesn't hold up to the weather.
I used this exact spray, it sealed a roof leak for about a year. It broke down and needed to be repaired again. I won't use again in same situation.
I had similar result, would not recommend for roof repair
Very helpful, read my reviews and comments .

Missys Hubby the commercials specifically said I can put it on a screen door on the bottom of a boat 😀

caulking works. I have had good luck with the OSI brand of caulks holding up to the weather

@Tenshi no you're wrong also, the first your is correct, the second one should be you're.
That stuff is great, I've used it on Semis, used on equipment shifter boots , however to dam expensive,
After reading the comments, I will be returning my Flex Seal and putting a bucket under the leak as the bucket will last longer.
This stuff never worked I bought 10 cans for mobile home metal roof it never sealed..
For something simple like that I would use Karnak in the caulk bottle version this way u can control where u put the stuff and how much thickness u want to add. Thanks for the time in making the video though.
just install a new boot over the existing boot. you may want to consider pipe cowelling too
As a roofer flex seal sucks @$$. The sun will eat it up in a matter of no time. Spend a little extra and do it right.
That roof looks relatively new. Why would you crap it up and have it look that way with flex seal.
Sorry flex seal won't work in Florida to much heating from sun will melt down any time

Terrible idea....just use a perma-boot.
Garbage. Just install a new neoprene boot.
On that one just slide a round rubber boot over the top.
Too messy, use silicone is better
flashing cement works better,,,,,,,
Used it as a quick-fix, lasted about 6 months. Also, used the clear, and the clear turned yellowish-brown, LOOKS TERRIBLE ON MY ROOF!

Flex seal is crap looks good while wet let d sun hit it 2 weeks cracks this product is crap it didn't work on my rv either👎👎🖕
Big Tsunami Productions honestly I haven’t really found anything it works on.
Love this stuff on countertops!
Old Schooled garage lmao
Great job, I need to repair some leaks I appreciate your video, and no you cannot please everyone there is always at least one Jackass out there!!! Always will be! Thanks, Billy
You must be the jsckass because evidently you haven't read the reviews smart guy.
@@sebastianraynor3641 I am not a guy and how rude are you!!! Keep your jackass opinion to yourself!!
Sure thing Jackass!🤣
Just came across a product called permanent boot. Seems interesting!
we installed a covering over the back porch, with metal sheets, and there are places where it leaks, likely due to position of the screws, obviously we need to make a patch for that but will this stuff seal the holes? the metal is that roofing tin that comes in 38 inch wide sheets with ridges
I had a boot with a crack but the post with the boot on it had a hydro line connected to it so I could not use the Perma Boot without calling in the hydro company. I used a product called Stretch N Seal - its a silicone tape. It seems to have done the job - I will check in the fall to see how it holds up.
Phuk Uwe use Flex tape......:
The thing they used was flex seal LIQUID not the normal stuff
The tape works better in my opinion
You can get rubber boot that slides over pipe and down to torn boot!
How does this Oatey company sell anything?
These collars are supposed to be "Life of the Roof" warranteed.
What you pay for a can of that stuff you could have bought a new boot.
Do it right the first time.
Don’t waste your time and money
209 will make the boot last longer
you need to put a tiny piece of paper over the little holes so the Flex don't drip down it don't dry instant.
Thank you for the heads up....
