Darlingi and I'm excited about getting into the whole old world side. Stay safe buddy.

(Flooding ?) I really don't feel good about digging her out . Why does no one ever mention the gorgeous electric torqouise under their forelegs ?
Hello, Dan! First off, congrats on getting a lady! I've tried the flood method several times, and it was successful about 50% of the time. When it works, it's great; when it doesn't, it's a mess. I've had a couple that I failed to grab when they surfaced, and they bolted back into the burrows and it became a muddy mess. Personally, I feel much more comfortable digging them up.
I have a juvenile from that same sac (cold blood on Arachnoboards) in a 32-ounce deli cup. It recently molted, so it's due for a rehouse. (It's going into a smaller model of that Primal Cages enclosure until it outgrows that.)

Hey Tom, Great video as always man! I was just wondering, do you still plan on making a genus review for Psalmopoeus? I'm big into these at the moment and I'm curious what you have to say about them :D
they are real awesome tarantula! In my experience they kinda show being green at around 4 inches if they are male. I was really hoping they would darken up but I was right and they got em tiny tibial and emboli at an amazing size of 6 inches, super leggy beautiful male. I also had this matured male bolting experience, they jump and summersault, like roll down till they hit the ground. tub was no help lmao.
Awesome channel. Newly subscribed. I recently aquired a Cyriopagopus Minax. (Thailand Black) and I was wondering if you have one, and if so, what your overall experience with them, is.
Thank you so much for the add, Ryan...I truly appreciate it! As for the C. minax, it's a fossorial (burrowing) species, so the trick is to give it plenty of moist substrate to construct a burrow in. If given space to burrow, it will be much calmer. They may also do some webbing on the surface, so you want to give them a little space and anchor points on the surface.
Another awesome rehouse! I have two tarantulas that "play dead" and hunker down during rehousing, so this is extremely helpful. Thanks for sharing your techniques! I did have a more general question to which I'm having trouble finding a solid answer: What classifies as a "spiderling" and what classifies as a "juvenile"? Are the terms related to specific sizes and/or ages, or more vaguely is "juvenile" just a way to reference a sub-adult? I have a lot of spiderlings that are hitting around the 3 inch mark and based on the forums I've read over, the verbiage seems to be sort of subject. I'd love your thoughts on the matter if you have a chance to reply. If not, no worries! I know you get a lot of comments on here 😊
Thank you so much! Yeah, it makes it so much easier when they do that. haha As for spiderling and juvenile, they are really kind of subjective, and there is no standard definition. For most species I consider them "juveniles" once they start to show a bit of adult colors. For medium species, this is usually around 1.5-2" or so. At this point, they are out of their "sling" stage and are a bit more hardy, but they don't fully have adult colors yet. Once they get their adult colors, I refer to them as "young adults". Again, ask another keeper and you're likely to get a different answer! haha
Congrats on your molt! For slings, I usually wait a week or so. Just know that with that species, it could take it a little longer until it's ready to eat. And thank you so much!
My O. shioedtei seems to be pretty slow growing. I got it as a .5" sling and I would say it's maybe an inch now and that's over these past five months. Moisture has definitely been up to par but getting it to eat has been a handful. I ended up just putting springtails in there since it's moist enough for them to thrive.
Hi, Tammie! Yeah, I have to be more careful calling it mold. Thank you for pointing that out. This is the stuff that leads to those super fast growing mushrooms!
That toe sticking put of the hole in the lid was adorable. A question about water dishes: how big of water dishes can you safely give a tarantula? I water my tarantula when ever I feed it (because I don't want to unnecessarily bother it), but the tiny dish is often dry, muddy, or overturned.
Pretty much as large as you want. I use bottle caps for tiny slings, and they do just fine with them. A healthy tarantula will not drown. Thanks, Gillian!
Another way to get burrowers out is carefully flooding their burrows, they (theoretically) rush out and can be caught easily. Have you tried that method? Do you think that it is safer or more dangerous for the spider as opposed to digging them up?
Hey, Tuts! Yes, I've tried it before, and it worked about half the time for me. On two occasions, the spider retreated back to its burrow and got trapped in a muddy mess. When it works, it's great. When it doesn't, it's a disaster. haha For me, digging them up is the safest route.
@@TomsBigSpiders I see! The flooding method has always worked for me so far, but after your comment I'm thinking that maybe I just got lucky everytime... Definitely wouldn't want to be forced to dig up a stressed spood trapped in a muddy mess
@@Trupiato Some people swear by it, so it definitely works for some. I'm just not as comfortable doing it that way as I've had issues that ended with me digging the spider out (in now muddy sub) anyway. The way I see it, use whatever technique you feel comfortable with! :)

How many Inches of substrate do I need for my curly hair tarantula when it's a adult?
3-4 should work fine.
I hope u will find a p emeraldus and the other psamos and do a care
I'm working on a genus video for Psalmopoeus, and I'm still trying to find an emeraldus.
awesome spider, sorry it's a boy.
Thank you, Kim! And that's okay...he's a cool shade of green now. haha
Why mine is a bright yellow. Is there a chance tht mine is a different species
Is yours a mature male? Mine molted after this, and it more bright (and male).
Hey Tom. Is there a way I can get in touch with you directly please?
Sure! You can shoot me an email at tomsbigspiders@outlook.com .
@@TomsBigSpiders thanks Tom. I already sent an email. 🤝
Definitely looking like a male. Schioedtei, as with most arboreal Ornithoctoninae, are quite sexually dimorphic in coloration
Thanks so much, Carson! That's what a couple others have said as well. Now I know...and knowing is half the battle. haha
how aggressive and fast is
Mine is quite shy overall. And she hasn't been particularly defensive at all.
@@TomsBigSpiders but be careful they are moody
I just had one mature out too. From what I've read these are dimorphic from pretty early, females stay black, males start turning green.
Yeah, that's what I've been hearing from others as well. Oh well...green boy it is! haha
Sir Malaysian earth tiger tarantula venom is dangerous yas or no
Yes, all tarantulas are venomous. As an Old World tarantula, these have a very nasty bite. It would not kill you, but it would not be fun.
@@TomsBigSpiders thanks for the information sir

I got what you meant! haha
She looked like a light brown with slivers of dark brown. Cameras can look different than real life. I hope its a she.
Yeah, I always struggle with getting the colors to show up on camera. And...it's a boy. Oh well! Thanks, Joyce!
And Happy Easter!
@@TomsBigSpiders Blessed Easter Tom! To Billie and the kids too!
Needs more springtails
Thanks, Jon.
