They took Spider-Man’s character, and made him do a full 180, rather than having him let go of aunt May, who is elderly, and probably happy for Peter and MJ, and retconned it so Spider-Man is basically a 30 year old man living in his (adoptive) mother’s basement
I hate to say this, but actually the comic itself isn't awful writing. The writing is pretty good, but the story itself is fucking awful. So awful that the writer stated beforehand that he would never write a comic for Marvel again if forced to write that story. Sucks too, because Back In Black was amazing.
Razz_Al _Ghull yeah, it was NUTS - in a good way! They do make a good point about Sue’s suffering being used as a plot device, though. That crap is sick.
Secret empire should have been number one in worst comic launches. It’s super offensive and wrong to have Captain America be made into a Nazi. He was a character and by extension a political symbol designed to combat fascism and the Nazi regime, which was created and written by two Jewish writers. This choice along with Marvel’s eagerness to pedal out Steve Rogers and hydra symbol on so much merchandise and comics makes me sick to my stomach. And it kinda ruins Captain America in the comics. Deadpool even comments on this in the comic saying Steve Rogers is forever now stained in the eyes of the public. He was a hero for a lot of people, young readers especially, and now he’s really lost that, in the eyes of some people forever, and you know what I don’t blame them. To me Cap is broken in a way that can never be fixed.
Well to be fair on a few points he wasn't a Nazi since another writer (Jonathan Hickman ) made a whole story in another book (secret warriors vol1) years before that Hydra started out as this weird cult which is the version Steve joined. Plus it happened because the Red Skull warped reality it self and villains have done things in the past to get heroes to fight with or for them.
It was a doppelganger. The true Cap was stuck in the Cosmic Cube and Hydra Cap was the recreation of a Hydra-devoted child with cosmic powers. You should read it and give it a try
As bad as it seems like Onslaught was in the comics (not sure if he was or not, never read them), he was a pretty slick final boss for the first Marvel vs Capcom game.
It had potential but the writers didn’t communicate and editorial increased the frequency of cross title events, thus breaking up individual storylines (Nightwing got transitioned into Grayson because of events in Forever Evil that were barely covered in Nightwing, and the initial circus arcs ended by the Batfamily crossover Death of the Family).
Here's the thing with Ultimatium. The original plan was for there to be a universal reset. Anyone who died would have never existed. But I guess they thought that would be too hard to write, so they kept killing everyone but never reset the universe.
I know this probably doesn't count as a comic book "event" since it doesn't have an official series, but killing Peter Parker after Doc Ock basically switches bodies with him is unforgivable, then making a series out of it. Superior Spiderman.. That should have been tied with #2, or #1.
Lot of people like Superior Spider-Man tho. OMD is universally hated, and so is Secret Empire, tho not as much as MD, cuz I have heard people that say they liked Secret Empire. I haven't heard a single reader barring Joe Quesada himself that says OMD is good.
Court of Owls and Night of the Owls were great, but Snyder’s later storylines were either about the Joker, his creation Duke Thomas or MechBat. Still, he was the only writer to stay on one title the whole way from start to end of New 52.
I would have also included when Marvel brought back Jean Gray in the late 1980's after her heroic death in Uncanny X-Men 134. They brought her back and said that is was a space clone thingy that had actually died and she's fine after being at the bottom of a lake for 10 years. I remember at the time it caused a huge uproar at my local comic shop. This was before the Internet, so the shock waves weren't as violent as with the Clone Saga or One More Day, but at the time it was terrible.
Ironically Claremont resurrected her because the fans wanted Jean Grey back... In an interview back in the days he said he hated the idea but he couldnt go in any comic convention without people asking when Jean Grey will be resurrected
I think bringing back Jean Grey was the beginning of the horrible trend of killing characters just to bring them back. Before that, if a character died, they were dead. I remember someone at the local comic shop talking about them bringing her back and he said, "Yeah, but as long as they don't break the One Rule, we're fine." That "One Rule", of course, was never bring back Bucky. Obviously they broke that rule eventually, though they did it in a pretty awesome way. But the point it, it opened the door for the death of Superman, the breaking of Batman, the deaths of Thor, Mr. Fantastic, Jason Todd (Robin 2), Colossus, Wolverine, and countless others. I hate it. It makes the stories mean nothing. We no longer feel the emotions the writer expects us to feel when they kill off a character because it's like Lucy offering to hold the football for Charlie Brown. We just know that bitch is going to yank it away.
Then you don’t know what things are worth hating, my friend. I read that, compared to everything on this list and so many other recent things, that issue was just another unknown couple of pages lost in the ocean of the years. I get you, though, it was bad.
In the first one he said that rape shouldn't be used as a plot device yet Damian Wayne is also a thing. I found the comic interesting because of the real world problems
Damian Wayne as far as I know is NOT a child of rape as Bruce and Talia actually did genuinely like each other romanitcally, they only disagreed on their 'politics' and their approaches to helping the world.
@@sarafontanini7051 It is HEAVILY hinted that Talia slipped something in his drink. In the movie son of batman when Talia is about to introduce Damian to batman she offers him a drink and he replies"last time that didn't go so well".
It really made me feel for a character that I never took seriously, Ralph Dibney is now one of my favorites. I can see how Sue Dibney's rape can draw criticism, but I thought it was a fantastic story.
It was a very safe bet that One More Day would be on the list, even ending up as No. 1, but I think this is the first time these videos have referenced Peter and Mary Jane's unborn child, even Marvel never confirmed if Mary Jane was pregnant at the time it happened.
Because it isn't universally hated like One More Day. Also, Secret Empire was undone, and One More Day hasn't been undone yet, though we can only hope Last Remains changes that.
I also heard Carol or should I say 'Carl' Manvers was written like a fascist in Civil War II. Only furthering her mass unpopularity with fans despite Marvel's efforts to push her as the face of their brand.
A few of these I'll concede were of questionable merit, but I actually rather liked Clone Saga, Onslaught and Secret Empire; Clone Saga allows some interesting views of Spider-Man's character when looked at the right way, and the other two had a fundamentally chilling storyline as a great hero becomes a terrifying villain. Oh, and Onslaught DID have a goal; he just changed it over the course of the storyline as he became more aware and more 'picky'
To this day I still hate the ramifications that one more day and the following Brand New Day story arcs brought! Now if they would’ve kept Mephisto in the arc with Spider Man literally “facing his demons” to undo everything I would’ve kept reading!
Andrew Buback I liked the year (or so) sporadic build up in the X-books and the reveal, but it got pretty bad, and boring, when it turned into an event with all the other big name Marvel characters.
Not everything about New 52 was bad, but you had to go to the fringe titles to find anything enjoyable. The core stuff was all a mess with bewildering continuity and wildly varying quality. I personally enjoyed New Guardians and the Batgirl of Burnside stuff, though.
I may be the only one on this, but I enjoyed the New 52, and also Ultimatum even with all the "extreme" violence, i have seen even worst so it wasn't a big deal for me, hooouuu ya, Secret Empire was also fine for me
Most of the new 52 was good and gave us great titles like batman, flash, green lanturn and jla dark as well as great events like darksied war and forever evil.
and also Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Swamp Thing, Animal Man, Action Comics and Stormwatch. Also classic SciFi-Action Stuff like Voodoo, Blackhawks, Grifter and classic Hero Stuff like Justice League International, Aquaman and the Others.
jeph loeb and joe quesada What they did to Marvel was horrible and can be summarized in “One more day” and “ultimatum” I want MJ and Peter Back. Who is with me??
Have you noticed that this top 10 referred to the storylines from the last 25 years? They need to work on their writing. Part of the reason why I haven't bought comics for the last 20 years.
Secret Empire is actually an okay story. The problem is how Marvel marketed it. They continually stated that it was the real Captain America. Technically it was, but only due to a reality warping. That makes a huge difference in the eyes of comic book readers. On top of that, a lot of people just have event fatigue from Marvel having a status quo changing event twice a year.
Yes . The other problem is that in the main crossover itself, there was some secondaries plots which doesn’t lead anywhere such as the one when Natasha Romanova a.k.a Black Widow despite knowing that the Captain American Supreme Leader could NOT be the original Steve Rogers according to a secret video message by Rick Jones, she thinks that the only good solution is to kill him and Miles Morales/Spider-Man want to help her only because he saw a vision of him showing that he would kill the evil Steve Rogers on the Capitol. To be honest, it doesn’t seem logical for Miles Morales to participate in a assasination just because of that and it actually make it worse. Despite the fact that Natasha insisted that Miles wouldn’t confront Steve before the climax cause Morales is not really a killer and literally lock him in a van to prevent this, Miles confronted Steve anyway. This useless action didn’t really make things better causing the death of Natasha when she interposed herself in the fight to stop Miles.
I have never understood why people hate the clone saga, and actually, I only started hearing people don't like it within the past 5 years or so. I love the characters of Ben Reilly and Kaine, and it's maybe my favorite Spider-man run besides The Other
Say what you want about the new 52, it took dc once to fix their continuity and become a success with dc rebirth, marvels reboots have never been solid
I enjoyed some parts of Ultimate Marvel and DC’s New 52, but overall the problems I had with them made wading through decades upon decades of continuity in the source material not seem so bad if it mean proper characters and stories.
I dont think they'll do that, cuz most people hated her in the original storyline anyway, and there was no real conflict between who was right, cuz she was obviously in the wrong.
You're young, you little puppy. In the 90s, the X-Men were red hot. Also, they were a little overpowered. They needed to get back to their underdog "feared and hated" status. They also needed to resolve the "X-Traotor" storyline that went on for YEARS, and kick off the (admittedly unsuccessful) Heroes Reborn universe. Before that, sales of Captain America, iron Man, Fantastic Four, and Avengers were in the toilet. This might have even been during the Marvel bankruptcy time period (1997, I believe). People who quit reading came back clamoring for their heroes to return.. Which they did in uh... Heroes Return (aka Heroes Reborn The Return).
I'll admit, I have a soft spot for Onslaught, but that's a personal bias. I was already collecting all the X-books at the time, so it was money I was consistently spending, anyway. I was intrigued by the idea of Professor X finally snapping. Given their inability to cope with the Legacy Virus and the anti-mutant hysteria building in the books at that time, it SEEMED like a believable reaction for the Professor X. But once they unnecessarily revealed Magneto's involvement (a twist I've ALWAYS disliked), and its eventual spread to the rest of the Marvel Universe, it completely fell apart. I wish they could've just kept it simple. I feel like there's a decent story underneath all the excess baggage.
To be fair to the New 52 there were some decent stories and runs from the likes of Geoff Johns and Scott Synder but a lot of garbage or mediocrity as well. Rebirth was probably for the best especially considering how well received it was by fans.
Actually, i think Identity crisis was pretty good. Also, i didn't like the entire idea of the New 52 very much, but i loved some things from it, like Batman, Aquaman or Justice League.
Futures end, trinity war, forever evil, final crisis, brightest day, multiversity, any of those crossover events where the justice league dark met with other justice leagues or with Constantine or Frankenstein; or swamp thing crossing over with animal man, so you had to literally buy both to know what was going on. Not going to deny that many of the things on this list deserve to be there, or that one company deserves to be on the list more/higher than the other, but identity crisis was very well received and liked, most anything I listed above definitely did much worse when they came out than it did. That is unless you're including all of them in "new 52," in which case the combined weight of those should make it higher up and should have been mentioned.
For me its the opposite. As much as I hate Secret Empire, One More Day is #1. I can understand Secret Empire at #1 though, because sometimes, just seeing Captain America, the symbol of freedom and hope turned into a nazi is just insulting. But tbh Secret Empire was never intended to be long term or permanent.
New 52 made me hate Barry Allen who is the second Flash due to the fact Flashpoint screwed up a lot of things in the DC universe however new 52 did introduce a remarkable Batman storyline featuring the court of owls.
Ultimatum was great. Not the writers fault their readers have zero spine. Honestly, they should make that the next huge MCU event after the X-Men and F4 join.

Because that shit is the worst thing ever created since the cómic book industry exists.
there is a reason for that...worst isnt even close to how bad that was!
One more day made Peter Parker look like a dumbass

Razz_Al _Ghull I loved it and the ramifications in future Batman and Justice League books.
I'm with you guys, Identity Crisis should not be on this list. It is a good story.
Razz_Al _Ghull yeah, it was NUTS - in a good way! They do make a good point about Sue’s suffering being used as a plot device, though. That crap is sick.
It was one of the most acclaimed books of the time. People still love the Deathstroke vs League battle. Hell, it had too many great moments to name!
Did anyone immediately knew that One More Day would be on this list?

One more day and Ultimatum yes
I was expecting Sins Past, but yeah I imagined that One More Day would be on this anyway.
I hate one more day so much!
Yep

A Str onslaught was amazing
I too liked his design
Onslaught was a cool crossover as long as you limited yourself to the Xbooks. It’s not as bad as everyone says.
I couldn't disagree more with it's entry in this list. I thought it was fine.
Heroes Reborn should have been #1 and it's not even here. How is that possible? Rob Liefeld a minority owner of watchmojo or something?
Heroes Reborn has less artistry in its writing than Nicki Minaj's songs.
Maybe the event has to finish first?
Noek, Heroes Reborn finished 22 years ago.
Oops,I looked at heroes reborn and only saw Heroes in Crisis.
"Heroes Reborn"... my first thought was that terrible sequel which Heroes got. :D
I actually never knew Onslaught was hated, guess because is rather old so no one speaks about it anymore.
I don't remember fans immediately hating the Onslaught event. I do remember a lot of immediate backlash to Heroes Reborn, though.
What do you mean "EVEN" fans? They're usually the ones to hate things first.
lmao ikr! Fans are the reasons this list is created in the first place 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Let the New 52 apologists say what they will. The fact that DC Rebirth was so well-received critically and commercially speaks volumes.
I agree with you, but the term isn't apologists anymore.
It's shills.
Only Aquaman was good in new 52

Batman was pretty neet too. Court of Owls, Death of the Family, Superheavy. All very entertaining stories

I really like Identity Crisis. It was a little slow but in the end was a very good story and very different. It also lead to other really good arcs.

Because Snyder wrote stories like Batman's continuity has never been rebooted in the first place.
Court of Owls and Night of the Owls were great, but Snyder’s later storylines were either about the Joker, his creation Duke Thomas or MechBat. Still, he was the only writer to stay on one title the whole way from start to end of New 52.

So true! New 52 is very underrated!!

Well people tend to like Ben Reilly but I think the reason Clone Saga is hated is cause of how long it was
Oh my god New 52 have been Nice to Batman Only any no other heroes shine at that era.
Say what you want about the new 52, it took dc once to fix their continuity and become a success with dc rebirth, marvels reboots have never been solid
New 52 wasn't that bad. I mean, the Justice League and Batman runs were awesome.
I enjoyed some parts of Ultimate Marvel and DC’s New 52, but overall the problems I had with them made wading through decades upon decades of continuity in the source material not seem so bad if it mean proper characters and stories.
New 52 had some good reads though! Swamp thing, animal man, green lantern, Batman, the flash and even red lanterns to an extent lol
I count two stretchy guys yelling "Sue!" In this video
Ultimatum was great ..one of my favorite books!!
Identity Crisis is one of my favorite events. I'm surprised it made the list.
Adrian!!!!!
From Rabona TV!!
As per usual everyone is already arguing in the comments and accusing each other of being shills.
With the helmet & the colour scheme he looks like the love child of Magneto & Shredder (from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) not Professor X
I didn't read Secret Empire, but I know people who did, and they said that Hydra Captain America was one of the best villains Marvel's ever written
Watchmojo seems to have a love-hate relationship with onslaught. Both the character and the event.
I wouldn't be surprised if they did adapt civil war 2. They'll do anything to force captain marvel on everyone
I dont think they'll do that, cuz most people hated her in the original storyline anyway, and there was no real conflict between who was right, cuz she was obviously in the wrong.
I'm still not over #1. Sad that Renew Your Vows is ending
It got kinda boring after the time skip. But it was fun to read that while the mains series was in the stupid clone conspiracy.
Top 10 demonic voices in video-game
The only entry I liked reading from this list was the Onslaught saga based on cool Onlsaught was
Why dont you like secret empire??
@@brrlego5245 I hated what it did to Vison and Scarlet Witch as the X men
You're young, you little puppy.
I actually loved the Ultimatum storyline. The one part that always sticks with after all these years was the Blob eating the Wasp...
Yeah but it feel likes it was some kind of violent way to get rid of some heroes in the Ultimate universe (Earth-1610).
Why ?!
The clone saga was not that bad. I like Kain and Scarlet Spider!
SOME OF THE NEW 52 WASN'T SO BAD!
I dont hate any comic books
If its a hentai version
To be fair to the New 52 there were some decent stories and runs from the likes of Geoff Johns and Scott Synder but a lot of garbage or mediocrity as well. Rebirth was probably for the best especially considering how well received it was by fans.
Actually, i think Identity crisis was pretty good. Also, i didn't like the entire idea of the New 52 very much, but i loved some things from it, like Batman, Aquaman or Justice League.
You forgot about Superior Spider-Man. People literally sent in death threats to Dan Slott over it.
see, now I actually love Civil War 2
Onslaught
New 52 was okay. Some characters benefited from it but most to all legacy heroes got butchered SO HARD not to mentioned it screwed over Static Shock.
I actually loved Onslaught.
There's no awful everything in War, stop blaming my History!!!
As much as I hate One More Day, Secret Empire shoulda been #1.
