similar story for me, but with drums. I always said if I could pass Feel Good/Long Time by Boston on expert I was going to buy a drum kit. and that's exactly what I did
For this particular recording, this is the best quality you are going to find out there. I downloaded this and I listen to it in my car, and it's very close to CD quality. I prefer it over the old version because the SQ is better, it is mastered and mixed MUCH better and doesn't sound like playing from a tin can. And I am more used to it because Rock Band 2 introduced it to me! The guitar sound these guys have going on is rich and full and pure. Thank you for this vid! Thumbs up.
I expected a lot more arguing on if the original vocals were better or not. But that's not what I see here. Oh well. I will start the conversation. I love this version more because of that intro and the vocals are better recorded. Also the growling is bad ass!
I agree I’m a huge testament fan I can play all the stuff note for note I like how Alex sonic cleaned up the guitar work because he’s an amazing jazz guitarist and he modern did up the vocals are actually cool if that’s their current singer that’s awesome I haven’t listen to them in a while I just found this randomly this is one of my favorite metal songs
Testament has never really got the the recognition the truly deserve! They are one of the pioneers of Thrash Metal! Alex is a guitar god and I'm going to him and his trio next Friday in Indianapolis! Rock On Testament!
@@trendmassacre8423 Pretty sure by rhythm tone he meant the sound as that's how the term is used in music world! 😀 And he thought this was from 1990 like the original, though the original had as similar crushing tone too 👌 And rhythm wise this is nothing unusual, practically half the thrash bands from the era used these kinds of very off-beat bouncy rhythms (Overkill, Exodus, Defiance, Xentrix etc.).
I absolutely LOVE this song. This rerecording kicks ass!! First heard it on Rock Band 2. I play guitar and at one point could really play it. I can't play the solo like Alex, though. You came replicate how he does it. I don't care who you are!!!
One of my favorites of that era... As a musician/guitar, I feel that some tracks need to be restructured. This was one of them. An awesome job... And of course Alex has always been one of my favorites.
Jesus Christ, I had that tasty bass riff in my head, but I couldn't remember which song it was from. I kept saying aloud to myself, "Where the hell is this from????" Thank God I found it, great song.
I think the bass intro is incredibly epic. If they combined that and the background instruments during the chorus with the original vocals, it would be perfect.
Holy Shit, this version is sick! I've been a Testament fan since Practice What You Preach, and I'm pumped that they put out a new CD. Souls of Black will always be one of my favorite songs, but the CD they put out after Souls of Black was exceptional. They were just as heavy but the songs were better.
Every time I play this song I think back to middle school days when after school we could play video games in the cafeteria. I was playing guitar hero with one of my classmates from guitar, he picked this song and when the solo came we ended up having to restart like 4 times cause I would stop playing and watch this dude destroy the solo on expert 😭 and I had to ignore hime playing so he could get a perfect 100. Man I miss those days
Honestly, this re-recording sounds just as kick ass as the original. The original is sleek and piercing, whereas this one is thicker and hits you hard. If that makes any sense. lol. I kinda wonder if they did get Testament in to re-record it, because all the parts are pulled off almost flawlessly, and the singer sounds like Chuck just singing lower. Great stuff. Thanks for the post, man.
@ANIMEkh358 it's being rescheduled. the tickets from the original dates will still be honored at the new dates too, i was supposed to see em January 22nd but it's rescheduled to August 30th, i'm seeing them at Long Beach.
@@NeonKnight-uc3kl That has NOTHING to do with the music OR the anime, and don't you even suggest otherwise. You're mentally bankrupt if you can't parse the obvious FACT that the fault in the (almost certainly pulled out of your ASS) conflation between the metal legend Ronnie James Dio and the Jojo's Bizarre Adventure character Dio Brando is the fault of the smooth-brained "fans" of Jojo's (the casual fans of course) rather than the incredible artistry of either the musician or the anime that apart from the reference in name only has no relation.
You know someone's a poser when they listen to Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax, but have never even heard of Exodus and Testament! (I like all six of them for the record, I'm sure you guys get my point, though, fans of the Big 4 are only posers if they don't know Exodus or Testament)
Saw TestAmenT a couple weeks ago in Ft. Worth. It was INCREDIBLE!! Chuck Billy has my favorite metal voice. He was always good but now he is downright scary good. That show blew my mind. FACE IN THE SKY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They re-recorded songs from their first two albums back in '01 for the "First Strike Still Deadly" compilation and recently re-recorded Practice What You Preach for their new album. You can find it all here on UA-cam, of course.
@2MrTwoCents2 actually they turned the bass way up it kinda drowns out the drums and the guitar is tuned to eb or e flat which ever you wish to call it its a half step down from standard e / regular tuning it gives it a overall lower sound i dig it but the bass guitar was a tad much for sure
@NickCereal Why would you hate it? It's the same as hearing it at a music store or something. Rock band promotes good music. I first heard it on Rock band though. But I naturally have good taste in music so if I would've heard it somewhere else, I'd still like it as much as I do now.
Killer mix. The panned kick is weird, but Testament is guitars, guitars, guitars for most people. They just got turned lower and lower to make the mixes radio friendly. This rages like The New Order, which is my standard for records of that era.
I like the re-recording slightly more than the original. It just sounds more brutal in the re-recording, most likely due to technology advances. Plus, that bass intro is fucking amazing
I totally agree with Jxj666 on both of his comments. Thank God they did not put any Jonas Brothers or any other pretty boy bands that have talent almost anybody could do with practice. Bands like Testament deserve respect and acknowledgement for their true talent in music. Rock on Testament and all those great metal bands out there! :)
Why the hell does it matter how they found the song? That's part of the reason why the bands and artists put their songs in RB, Guitar Hero and the like. It's a great way to reach out to people who wouldn't normally hear their music. I'm sure Testament doesn't give a crap how anyone finds their music. Might want to look in the mirror before you call someone else lame.
I really like this song and i'm getting into this band. Other songs I really like are "The Legacy", "Electric Crown", "Practice what you preach", and "The Ballad", "Perilous Nation". Are there any other songs you guys can suggest to me, judging by the songs I already like?
I have the '01 album, but I didn't know they re-recorded "Practice" during the sessions for the new album. I'll have to check that out. Again, thanks for the info...
@tizoooc actually friedman is my second favorite guitarist. i can never decide which one is my favorite. one week i like friedmans playing the best, and the its skolnick again. i would say they are equal but i wanted thumbs up for my comment.
@kiara1000000 thats exactly what hes sayin; that theyre different. some BFMV and A7X fans think that BFMV and A7X are the same kind of metal as testament, and theyre not, theyre conpletely different.

Hell yeah. I hope you're still jamming today!
must be 12 years now i hope

I can't finish this song
The bass intro is too catchy
Killua Zoldyck Dude, I thought the same. lol
Killua Zoldyck But once you get to the solo.
Quentin Minor But the bass intro!!!! DX
+Killua Zoldyck BUT. THE. GUITAR. SOLO.
sixstringpsycho HHHHHHNNNNNNGGGH! DA BASS INTRO!
Definitely a lot more power in this one. I love the re-recording and do with all the ones they've done.
my ONLY complaint for this song is that the kick drum was panned awfully far to the left. that is literally my only complaint
fuck u now i cant not notice it
Yah, why did they do that?
I actually kinda like it. Kick all the way to the left, snare to the right. it makes the drums "bouncy" in a weird way.
God dammit! Now that’s all I fucking here
Noticed that instantly. Otherwise this kicks ass

Man, the guitar work and sound on this song is probably one of the best ever... They just sound perfect.
Even back then and still today I gotta say... that's one of the greatest album covers of all time!
Recap: The extended bass is brutal, The guitar is dirty, Drums about the same, Chuck's vocals are amazing, THRASH!!!
If you’ve come for this version, then you’ve played Rock Band 2.
Bro the other version is unlistenable LOL I just found out there was an "original"
Oh, in that case I agree entirely.
One of my favorite songs from testament
Anthony Chalhoub mine too but this version is messed up crap.
Used to feel like such a bad ass nailing this song on expert on rock band back in the day. Memories.
That has to be the sickest bass intro ever
that's a pretty crushing rhythm tone for 1990
Not from 1990 lol.... The original is though

thumbs up from this Aussie. love bother versions.

I've set an awful lot of deadlift prs to this song
Comment of the year.
I think the bass intro is incredibly epic. If they combined that and the background instruments during the chorus with the original vocals, it would be perfect.
I've had a fun time reading these comments.
this song and these guy are just one of the reasons why my ears ring constantly! Fuck Yeah!!!!
Anyone else listening to this badass re-recording in 2022?
THANK YOU! ever since Limewire died (RIP) i been useing youtube mp3s 4 music. been lookin 4 this song everywhere.

The bass intro for a final bowser fight!!

Man that guitar solo kicks ass
This fucking bass intro!!!!

great song and band
Sound great ! Love it!!!
My only issue with this song is it’s not longer
NO NO people its not rock band its rock band 2
@warwick2155 Its on the CD called Souls of Black. That picture is it's cover.
