It’s 2022 and I still can’t comprehend the business decision when comparing these two songs to each other. This one is clearly better than the album version. Missed opportunities really. Glad I had this version on my rock band back in the day. Good times
I MUCH prefer this version to the on-album one. The mixing is done so much better. It's more raw and more powerful, but I don't have to fiddle with my mixing to make it sound like it. The bass brings out more of the song's support, so it doesn't sound like it's going to just topple over. Great job on this.
I know people like to shit on Guitar Hero/Rock Band but these games brought us insanely cool shit like this. The whole reason this version exists is because Harmonix/Rock Band wanted Souls of Black in the game but the master track audio stems were either lost or too damaged to work so they just had Testament re-record the song. All the mixing you're hearing is from Harmonix who has a bunch of audio engineers amongst the devs. They purposely want each instrument to stand out in the mix since Rock Band has Guitar, Bass, Drums and Vocals. Ironically, some songs in Rock Band have a better mix and sound better than the studio versions because of this.
I loved this song when the original first came out and for the most part nothing usually ever beats the original version but this version is awesome!!!
They should do another "First Strike Is Deadly"-type album with songs from Practice and Souls. That'd be kickass. They could call it "The Time Has Come" haha. (A play on "The Time Is Coming", of course)
Testament has always been a kick ass band, but I never truly noticed how much they suffered from shitty production on their first few albums until I heard this and then went back and listened to the original.
@saberbazer Supposedly, people have started to understand that, and have started to aim for the dynamics. (No more compression & mastering loudest to max). It's very pleasant to listen songs which are barely compressed than compared to the super compressed recordings of that have came out.
Although I like the old one better, both are great and it just shows the difference of times in terms of production and their experience, not to say one is better than the other.
Look for the SHMCD Remasters that were done in Japan in 2013. I own Souls and The Ritual. Still looking for a copy of Practice, but they are amazing. They were remastered really, really well.
well remember back in those days we all had equalizers and shit. so they would record and put it out basically flat and then when you got the record home you could add bass and treble the mids and if you had a sony walkman you got the eq with mega bass and fuck that was awesome the old school headphones were fuggin bullet proof
I don't know shit about editing, but the pretentious "best version" in the title and description may be what encourages assholes to leave such comments, and not the actual quality of the track. Thanks for uploading it though, it's indeed the one I most like.
@Johnnyboy414 I can hear the difference between 128 and 320kpbs easily! And I have over 5 years old stock speakers... And there's a subtle difference between lossless format and lossy mp3 even with highest settings 320kbps for mp3...
***** I think it's been done, but it's only available in Japan, however you might be able to track it down on ebay - for example find a seller who is in Japan who does international shipping.
@Johnnyboy414 Although you might not be able to hear it, but there is still hearable difference between 192 and 320kbps... and cause I have no space problems, I always go for the best quality mp3.
When I try to download the mp3, why does my computer's virus protection say "When we scanned this file, we detected programs that some people consider spyware, adware, and other viruses that could potentially harm your computer"?
@MPaulsell I think you're misinformed. First off, This is made with the original tracks... but you can notice that there are guitar parts which are so low volume that you couldnt hear them properly. I raised their level back to normal. This is the way it should sound and im pretty sure it sounds this way in the game too. And the original 1990 version has rhythm guitar parts during solo. But sure you can go to listen that shitty quality version (drums panned to hell)
How can you like the old bass intro better? It is literally the same intro, just with a bass solo. Being honest, the old version sucked major ass compared to this.
been listening to testament since i was 8 years old.....a family member broke into a buzzards nest record store and got EVERYTHING,the rest is history...i like many, have a band.... its called orion...2 demos posted... lies within the lies and rise of the monarch slaves...first one about marshall law, media prophaghanda...the second one is about celebrity worship ect...very much inspired by the older groups like megadeth, testament, slayer, death, anthrax, old metallica...check it out if you please.
how has this guys voice stayed the same for so long? - Hetfield sounded like a young kid back in the day.......Charles' voice is pretty constant over time....(?)
My kitty exploded in pleasure and made my knees buckle as I listened on the subway. Guys kept asking why my thighs looked so slick. Anyway I can dl this?
This was my favorite song to play in Rock Band 2 man, this version just hits way more than the original recording.
THIS SOLO. ONE OF THE MOST PERFECTLY STRUCTURED SOLOS IN METAL!!! It's flawless in the re-recording!
It’s 2022 and I still can’t comprehend the business decision when comparing these two songs to each other. This one is clearly better than the album version. Missed opportunities really. Glad I had this version on my rock band back in the day. Good times
A kickass bass intro makes everything better, really.
first version still deadly.
I see what you did there
Ohh man if they would re-do the whole album again, that would be awesome
The original was probably one of my most favorite songs of all time. This just blew my fucking mind.
This version is definitely my favorite! It really is the best version on UA-cam!
I like this better than the original
This is probably my favorite metal song out of everything I've come across so far. Testament is a goddamn beautiful thing.
I MUCH prefer this version to the on-album one. The mixing is done so much better. It's more raw and more powerful, but I don't have to fiddle with my mixing to make it sound like it. The bass brings out more of the song's support, so it doesn't sound like it's going to just topple over. Great job on this.

@@RossCastro they (harmonix) really did us music lovers a great service.
Testament's one of the few bands that can re-record anything and I'll love the fuck out of it as much as the original.
This artwork is literally metal.
One of the coolest album covers ever!!
one of the raunchiest bass intros ever.
god the lyrics as well omg
I'd say tasteful, not raunchy
Look up Five Magic’s
These guys are clearly not megadeth because they actually made a remastered better than the original
Cyrekt oh shit shots bro
Oof
This ain´t remastered, this is re-recorded.
Megadeth did awesome remasters of Peace sells, Killing is my business and So far...so good! The rest of the albums were a shit show, no doubt!
lol!
I like the raw sound of the original version but this version is so much heavier and just so bad ass. Both are awesome though either way
*bad bass
+HeavyHidan You can't spell bass without ass.
+Journey The Crab (Zysoth) Something Lemmy from Motörhead probably isn't.I have no idea.
Alex Skolnick on lead guitar. One of the best.
I loved this song when the original first came out and for the most part nothing usually ever beats the original version but this version is awesome!!!
That solo is fucking brilliant!!
Timeless
I love how in this version of souls of black i can HEAR EVERYTHING! SO GOOD THANK YOU!
Rock band 2 anyone?
Hell yeah, man. Rock Band 2 is what got me into metal in the first place.
mmzen Is that a law? :/
fr i learned about half the shit ik through rockband
Ali Vang yep are you good on it?
Ali Vang i play this song in medium
Amazing version !!! Powerful
love the bass in this one
They should do another "First Strike Is Deadly"-type album with songs from Practice and Souls. That'd be kickass. They could call it "The Time Has Come" haha. (A play on "The Time Is Coming", of course)

REPLY
I learned this whole album on guitar the year it came out. I was 13.
Damn! Even the solos?
Fuck yeah man! Thanks for putting up the download, i've been looking for a decent sounding version to get.
Love this song!
\m/ This is the best version! \m/
Killer solo
THANK YOU! The panned bass and snare, along with no rhythm with the lead was driving me fucking insane!
@saberbazer Supposedly, people have started to understand that, and have started to aim for the dynamics. (No more compression & mastering loudest to max). It's very pleasant to listen songs which are barely compressed than compared to the super compressed recordings of that have came out.
how much I miss the music and those times
Wow, way better than the other one! I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!!!!!!
Shit... this song should've been in killing floor 2.
Yes I agree this is the best version
Just an all around great song.
Amazing quality.
Although I like the old one better, both are great and it just shows the difference of times in terms of production and their experience, not to say one is better than the other.
besides the bass intro to black sabbaths NIB Geezer did, this is my favorite bass intro by far.
Omg. That extended intro...
So much better. It's a shame that the production on their stuff pre-The Ritual was so terrible.
Look for the SHMCD Remasters that were done in Japan in 2013. I own Souls and The Ritual. Still looking for a copy of Practice, but they are amazing. They were remastered really, really well.

My fav album by them. My first tattoo was inspired by this album.
I came buckets @ 0:04-0:18
That bass solo is heavenly
I don't know shit about editing, but the pretentious "best version" in the title and description may be what encourages assholes to leave such comments, and not the actual quality of the track. Thanks for uploading it though, it's indeed the one I most like.
@mao2se Rockband game. It's not remastered, it's re-recorded version as you can see in the title.
Greatest bass line ever period
rock band 2 i love it
@Johnnyboy414 I can hear the difference between 128 and 320kpbs easily! And I have over 5 years old stock speakers... And there's a subtle difference between lossless format and lossy mp3 even with highest settings 320kbps for mp3...
Love da bass at the beginning
HARD & HEAVY !!! LOVE IT !!!!
They should do a re-mastered version of Practice what you preach too!!
One of my favourites, too.
***** I think it's been done, but it's only available in Japan, however you might be able to track it down on ebay - for example find a seller who is in Japan who does international shipping.
qwe098qwe098qwe098 Thanks mate, will do that.
+Daniel Lehwing You can look it up on UA-cam too.
There s the live version from dark roots of thrash
@Johnnyboy414 Although you might not be able to hear it, but there is still hearable difference between 192 and 320kbps... and cause I have no space problems, I always go for the best quality mp3.
@MPaulsell The crackling is very minimal. Give the guy some respect, he did a good job, and it's not like you could do any better.
The band said themselves the original was rushed by the record company so they'd have a new album out for the 1990 clash of the titans tour
I think the big 4 are all awesome. however I think there needs to be a big 10.
I need this on 7 days of may
LOOK AT THE LOST SOOOOOOOOOULS!! THEY SEEM SO BLAAAAAACK!!
The re-recorded Rock Band 2 version. Wow has his vocals changed.
Awesome, nuff said
It sounds better because it was re recorded a few years ago for a game( rock band?) so it's better production
If you’ve come for this version, then you’ve played Rock Band 2.
I WANT THIS SONG!!! where i can find it?
Where are your isolated tracks? I would LOVE to mix this myself.
I like the bass line on this song
@laitela01 Well yeah 128, but 192 sounds pretty much the same. 320 also takes up ssoooooo much more space.
When I try to download the mp3, why does my computer's virus protection say "When we scanned this file, we detected programs that some people consider spyware, adware, and other viruses that could potentially harm your computer"?

I looove testament \m/
These guys were dope live chuck should have a third guitar he just plays on the mic stand the whole time anyway
Funny thing is, he has his own "signed" guitar picks. My wife got one he threw into the crowd at the end of the show. :D
@Fury88ify There's downlaod link in description...
best song ever
I like the original bass intro better. But no doubt the quality of this version is better
How can you like the old bass intro better? It is literally the same intro, just with a bass solo. Being honest, the old version sucked major ass compared to this.
Honestly, literally everything about this version is 1000x better
AWESOME HELL YEAH!
@campoobutt Actually I cant find them this time neither. I't seems like he place where I got them has removed the links. Sorry..
@J1Black3 Use google... you'll find them. But they're already mastered & mixed.
even better intro
Idk if I'm the only one that hears this, but the ending where the drums are slow sound A LOT like the ending of "Walk" by Pantera.
@GreenFrog1226 I don't know... maybe you got malware on your computer.
HELL YEAAAAH
i fucking love this version!
What is this from? Did they do an album of old songs re-recorded??
badass fucking song. hypes my the fuck up
been listening to testament since i was 8 years old.....a family member broke into a buzzards nest record store and got EVERYTHING,the rest is history...i like many, have a band.... its called orion...2 demos posted... lies within the lies and rise of the monarch slaves...first one about marshall law, media prophaghanda...the second one is about celebrity worship ect...very much inspired by the older groups like megadeth, testament, slayer, death, anthrax, old metallica...check it out if you please.
Hell yeah

@Scarecrow545 lol nvm i just went back and read that comment

Such a sick song! I want to light hobos on fire when listening!
I dont know why the fuck they edited the intro, THIS FUCKING INTRO IS PERFECT.
this is not the original
I like this intro better than the original tbh.
WeedUsr Same
i knew this before rock band and although i like the bass intro for this one more the vocals are way better on the original
how has this guys voice stayed the same for so long? - Hetfield sounded like a young kid back in the day.......Charles' voice is pretty constant over time....(?)
Who is drumming on this version? Tempesta?
Dat bass

METALLLLLL SO MUCH METALLLLLLLLLL
Now that's how you start a fucking song
My kitty exploded in pleasure and made my knees buckle as I listened on the subway. Guys kept asking why my thighs looked so slick. Anyway I can dl this?
