- Testament - 9. The Legacy - Souls Of Black
We're gonna take you back
Through the pages of the past
Just another lonely boy
I could laugh and play
And live in any other way
Then the devil took my soul
The fortune and the fame
I knew I was not the same
And I know I'd never return
Looking at the sky
I knew I would never die
And forever shining through
Wish the sky would say
That blue would turn to grey
And I know I'd be there
Life was like a fantasy
Taken by reality
Does anyone remember me
You once knew me
Flashes of the day
I knew I was here to stay
But no one stays the same
Turn the pages back in time
Through the chapters in my mind
Life's too short to leave behind
It's too late now
Life was like a fantasy
Taken by reality
Does anyone remember me
You once knew me
Flashes of the day
I knew I was here to stay
But no one
Knows my name
I’m 40 now and man this brings back so many childhood memories. That time is gone but the music lives on
I'm 50 and the same man!
56yr young lol. I remember all of these bands during the club days in the southwest. So fun!!
The same here

So you were listening to the record at 6 years old, or several years after it was released, maybe in your teens? ;)
Skolnick is a fucking machine. A soulful machine. The solos he performs on this song are out of this world.
Sorry to be so off topic but does anyone know a trick to get back into an instagram account??
I somehow forgot my password. I would love any tips you can give me.
@Bryson Corbin Instablaster :)
Eric, Gene and Steve (finger picking) can be called machines.
Alex über soulful playing and phrasing makes him anything but a machine :)
Couldn’t agree more!

GUITAR GOD. ALEX SKOLNICK
🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Alex Skolnick, one of my favorite guitar players ever, his style is so awesome. 🤘
Absolutely
Agreed - testament is so unreal- when I listen to this song it takes me to a far place- Alex is a metal god
Their style in thrash metal is unique . One of the greatest bands ever..
+Raed Baker Pretty sure this is a power ballad.
this isnt thrash, this is a ballad. But its true that their style is unique. Best thrash metal band, no doubt.
So it's a thrash-metal Ballad.
I live those times we where unique
How to explain the feeling that this song gives me, it is a mixture of tranquility but each sound harmonizes perfectly, it is simply an amazing song, my favorite from Testament!
They have a real talent for that
PERFECTION
I'm fucking addicted to this song man. This whole album is sick!
hi
@@IBroLLyISePhIrOtH legendary!
Agree, the album is sick, but the sound a little bit downward though, still i enjoyed it very much.
@@tommi_marsetio Yeah it is a more polished Testament then we are used to. But it still has some good hooks and solos in their songs! The Ritual took quite a few years to grow on me. But that album has some great tracks on it as well like Return To Serenity for instance. Which I couldn't stand when I first heard it at 18. lol
This is my favorite album. I'm very fortunate to have got to hang out and party with these guys and they are the coolest 😎
My teenage years just flashing by me... What a powerful song
Such an underrated song.
THIS SHOULD HAVE 30 MILLIO VIEWS!!!!!!
No, it should have 50 millio views!
Wrong, it should have like 10 billion views
@@OscarVargas *billio
No need. Only ones who love this song and amazing solo is enough.
If this song had millions of views that would mean that we would be living in a much better world, in all aspects. In the "real" world we live in, shit like contemporary trap are those that get the views. Society and culture go hand in hand, so no surprise here, sadly.
This song is one of Testament's most underrated gems. Perhaps my favorite metal ballad ever written, sang & composed. Testament was and still is one of the best bands to ever exist. Thank you for creating this song that I have so horribly sang & butchered countless of times.
As long as your heart is in it you can do no wrong 🤘❤
Testament the legends🤟🤟
Fact....they are badass.
Even better than November Rain.
My absolute favorite song by them. Representative of everything they're best at. Music, clarity and a POINT to the song. So many lack these days
Way better then Metallica
Very much so. They are what metal/rock should be Van Halen with Sammy Hagar I personally think is also on the same level
Deluded is confirmed 👌

No one does metal ballads quite like Testament.
ha ha ha ,Yeah.........
Iron Maiden Maybe, i don't know
Mike Mears Stratovarius has great ballads too.
Iron Maiden, Metallica and Pantera did grreat ballads too
W.A.S.P
Even if Testament aren't in the Big 4 they are undoubtedly the kings of metal ballads.
This song with the addition of "Return to Serenity", "Trail of Tears" and "The Ballad" really demonstrates their superior skills in the creation of emotional and musically perfect works of art. Every note is perfect. Chuck's voice is perfect with the combination of both his signature growl and his amazing harmonies and don't even get me started on the virtuoso that is Mr Alex Skolnick. I effing love this band.
Godful comment
100% bro
Chuck Billy is one of the greatest metal vocalists of all time.
Just saying.
+Ane Dijitak Yeah......
I won't deny he's good but have you heard of David gold from woods of Ypres ? Amazingly talented
+casey Merrifield talk singers that try to sound like type-o , don't do shit for me. It is your preference and believe me, its far from unanimous.. you are the only one. like what you like, but talent is discretionary based on expectation. clearly you aren't expecting much in order to be blown away. Just bc a guy dies doesn't mean he is the best.. shoulda thought that prior to their passing. not after. just saying.
RumpleFoldSkin well that is you opinion not everyone's and like him or not actual read the lyrics and listen to the songs and tell me again he's not talented he was one of the best melodic metal singers to come from Canada and yes that is my opinion and no I don't care if you don't agree that's the best part about freedom of speech
You will never be super saiyan if you " just sayin"
I was 10 when I would always hear my brothers blasting this song 😢 man crazy how time flies
Probably my favourite Testament tune. Love It. Respect, from the UK. 🇬🇧
This album and "Practice What You Preach" got me through some very tough times. Don't know what I would've done without this music.
6stringsamurai7 same here! This band kept me from putting a bullet in my head years ago
Randall Franklin, dang. I’m glad you made it through. How are you doing now-a-days?
Metal heals us.
like alot of other metal hit right at the time when i needed it to pump in my blood
Same ❤
To me, this is when I was 16, waking up in hospital 3/4 dead from organ failure. with my best friend laying on the floor next to me. Some people talk a talk, but Jordan, you walk the walk, Thanks for always being there for me buddy.

Skolnick's solos are amazing
+MoveitorLoseit2 Thank so much sir.
+Cristopher Platric I met Alex and Greg in 2006 at a Testament show backstage. Alex was really cool, hung out with my friend and talked to us for a few minutes. But Greg Christian was a dick!
Mike Mears It was awesome meeting Alex. But when we tried to talk to Greg, he gave us a dirty look and walked away. This was back in 2006, I wonder if he had a bad attitude pretty much all the years from then until he left
@@MoveitorLoseit2 I met Chuck and Alex in 2012 when Testament came to India, they were probably the friendliest musician I ever met they signed my poster and my CD and thanked me for attending the show.
I had to follow his solos right until he joined Savatage. The dude is amazing
this was my first ever heavy metal ablum my dad bought for me. my dad dont even listen to metal music but he knew i would love it so he just bought it for me.
You can never go wrong with the direction of Dad
I don't know
kudos for your dad 👌
That is awesome…. It is a pretty damn good album
That solo at around 3:54 will never stop sending chills down my spine. Perhaps my favourite metal solo.
I absolutely agree!
Ifelt it too
I just had the same chill and it happend right when i seen your comment.
Best solo or you could say biggest impact and feeling it gives you
Alex skolnic fucking bad ass guitarist killer Solo and song
This is amazing 30 years later
Legacy
The ballad
Return to serenity
I have to listen these songs before i get started with my day, have to.😎👍
Absolutely
Holy crap. I was looking for this song a few years back and I couldn't find it so I stopped looking after a while. And today I literally just accidentally stumbled upon it!
I freaking love this song.
Where did you first hear it? I hate when that happens lol.
Eli Karvonen Idk, it was at least 8 or so years ago. I am pretty sure my dad must have had the album or something.
Congrats man, I know the feeling when you look so hard for a song but never find it. Then it just comes out of nowhere lol.
I've had that happen to me several times and it's a wonderful feeling to listen to such a great song.
I was a HUGE Testament fan, so I heard it when it came out. This is by far my favorite, but I owned both Souls of Black and the other one (can't think of the name lol) with the "statues" in the desert. BTW, just came to look for this after hearing just a few notes of this song on Alex Jones' "InfoWars" radio/tv show.
One of the best ballads there is, in my opinion.
I think this transcends what is a "ballad" and is encroaching on "Epic Poem" territory.
Wait, even better than Peter Cetera's Next Time I fall?
ua-cam.com/video/WQKqp_rZbVk/v-deo.html
Return to Serenity is pretty amazing too!
Check out Testament - the ballad😁
@@justinshook5332 It is! But the vocals are a little flat, compared to the Legacy, which has both the guitar melodies and the bigger than life anthemic chorus!
My heart drops every time this music starts🤘
Had this album on cassette! Lol! Forgot how amazing this band was. Such tone, style, songwriting... legends in my opinion!! Should've been WAY more successful than they were. For me, it was always about Slayer, Megadeth, Metallica, and Testament in my long hair'd 80's - 90's youth. At 43, this shit is still great!
*Anthrax (first band I saw live, opening for Ozzy in '87), SOD, dammit, can't think of any more. Help me out.
that's alright you can be my younger brother
I had it on cassette too. :D
I´m 43 too, and cannot more agree with you bro!!! Cheers from Colombia
I'm 43 and this is still the best music ever.
This brings me way back. wish I could turn the clocks back .
There’s so much emotion in this song that I can’t express in words, not even explain!!
.. connected to the lyrics, seems I’m the one who has lived this story!
Amazing song, amazing sintonía ✨🥀🖤
mi pare che sei italiana ? i knew when you said amazing sintonia :D
Got that right honey
I was born from metal and Testament

I Love Chuck Billy He’s Got A Beautiful Voice He Sang The Ballad, Return To Serenity and The Legacy They’re The Best Thrash Metal Ballads Songs. 🎸❤️😘🤘🏻🤘🏻
chuck's voice kills it in this song ... can't stop listening.
+Jennifer Ramirez Criminally underrated vocalist. His vocals on Trail of Tears are goose bump inducing...
+A B Don't forget about "Return to Serenity" - very emotional
My favorite song of Testament.
Greetings from Chile
Yeah......Thank you very much, and please take the personer all in fun sir.

B0MB3R si ql un clásico del metal este temita
I have to agree. It's different from their usual stuff but it's one of the only Testament songs I keep coming back to.
When it comes to metal and versatility, no one can really compete with Testament. 🎸🥁
Memories, memories, I love this song!!!!
+Dee Shiosee Yeah............me too ,love this song very much sir.
when died my funeral song
It feels like high school i always heard this song in the radio
Good old chuck and the boys never let you down
So true thank you
Metal is in my blood any one agree?
I agree. And that explains my iron overload... I was listening to a lot of Iron Maiden. *buh dum tss*
i dunno never met u dont know your blood type
how the fuck do we know? Just head bang on and not worry if others think you have metal in your blood. Only you decide to live the life of a metalhead.
I'm a vampire and your blood taste of gum drops and cupcakes boy! Rid me of your sweetness!
@@ETAisNOW-wn8wx cringe
I love all of Testament's slow paced songs, but The Legacy has always been my favorite. Testament is so amazing at doing both aggressive fast paced songs, and slow paced songs big time. Chuck Billy is PHENOMENAL at singing both styles big time. This is one reason why Testament is one of my all time favorite bands ever. They are just so extremely talented, and in my opinion they are underated. In my eyes they should be headlining arenas all around the world.
como alguém pode dar deslike nisso? música perfeita
Carol Coelho and u are pretty fuckn hot. Love a woman who listens to this music

God how I love this band! Saw them in concert with Slayer and got permanent ear damage. It was so worth it!!
I saw em with Slayer too seasons of the abyss tour in Indianapolis was fantastic
I saw testament , motorhead, Judas priest, sabbath with Ronnie James Dio.....bad to the bone
I saw them with Slayer a few years ago in Charlotte
soooo amazingly beautiful.. Love Testament

Clean guitar intros and distortion solos with clean guitar in the background are always the best
Alex had a great tone. On this song, he makes that guitar tell you how he's feeling. I've always loved this song since it first came out. I was in highschool
Wow! Finally a comment from this decade!

The best ballad I've ever met in my life!
So many memories with this song. Chuck has an unique vocal.
THIS IS WITHOUT A DOUBT THE BEST ' UNDERRATED ALBUM OF THE 80S ...................

This dammed well better be underrated 80's seeing how it was released on October 1990.
Always remember you will never be as young as you are right now. 10 years from now youll wish you were the age you are now. Sad.
Steve Johnson one year since you wrote this comment, nine years from now and i will remember i hope.

Why sad ? 10 years later, if you're even alive by then will be a blessing.. With age comes Wisdom. Some people die before they even reach 10 yrs of age. Be grateful for whatever age you make it to..
Thank you for posting that Brother. Just really helped me out of a spot I've been kinda stuck in.

great singing and guitar solos
Yeah, it is a real showcase for both of them.
Chuck knows growling but singing too, awesome singer
Primeira vez que ouço e sinceramente estou maravilhado com esse som cabuloso e ao mesmo tempo relaxante da guitarra.. Meu peguei uma viagem louca agora kkkk

ALEX SKOLNICK( MOST UNDERATED GUITARIST IN ALL GENRES******ADD MIKE DAVIS OF NOCTURNUS TO THE UNDERATED LIST OF GUITARISTS!!!!
i would definitely say mike davis is far more underrated than alex skolnick. alex has mad respect in metal, meanwhile barely anyone seems to know who mike davis is
I bought this album back when it first came out back in 1992 or 93. Fuck where has all that time gone to? Good memories
good Sunday morning listening to Testament drinking coffee thank you

Love this band truly! Drink up y’all, many memories remain as always no matter what!
Still rocks in 2018!!!!
Right????
Just as freash and real as the first time I head it in the 90s !!!
Legendary song right up there with fade to black
Most beautiful melody ever
MASTERPIECE of an album!!! I crank this out and all other Testament and Megadeth albums everyday!!!!
This song transmits peace, tranquility, serenity, from the guitar solos, the drums on the drums, the bass chords and the vocal performance of Chuck Billy, and not to mention the lyrics themselves. Everything in this song is agreed to make it a work of art.
Memories memories 90’s was the best years of my life now I’m on my 50’s n still rocking

Born in 1996 and wondering why do I live in this generation with no real music? If I could time travel back to where the good music was, I damn sure would.
Sitting in the balcony of the Kaiser in Oakland around "91, blazing a j while watching them jam this song. This was one to take a rest from the pit on.
I've always loved the mellow metal songs like this, Trail of Tears, and songs by other metal bands, songs like Quicksand Jesus by Skid Row, Damnation by Fates Warning, Strange World by Iron Maiden, Remember Tomorrow by Iron Maiden, and Dreamer Deceiver by Judas Priest to name just a few.
+Kendall2001 Thank you for the song names and discoveries :)
Feel free to give me some other ! :D

And theres a lot more...
sadly sadly under-rated
This song brings back a very weirdly specific memory...
The year is 2008, I am 6 years old. It's 11 at night and my dad is driving me home from my aunt's house. I'm sitting in the back seat of his car, looking out the window thinking about god knows what, as he plays this song. Life was good.

My favorite song man
Uma grande amiga me recomendou está música e concordo, surpreendente.
Still shooks me after 28 years!!!!
I was raised around nothing but country and blue grass. I hated music the early part of my life. Then I stumbled upon this particular song, a suggestion from a friend. Blew my mind. So in the late 80's I was becoming a teenager and this music sculpted me into a new being. I am now 35 and drooling in anticipation of Black Roots of the Earth. This is still one of my favorite and most played tracks.
for my unkle micheal , it's been damn near 27 years since I was just that young man in your bedroom with your headphones on , this song found me today, I love you unk.
Love that lead guitar!!!☺☺

We grew up with Testament and always listen to their great songs!!!
After maybe hundreds of listens in many years, Last year I thought that I finally understood the songs lyrics and had the most painful listen of the song that I've ever listened. Than in the same day, I understood the real meaning, and the song became even more hard hitting.
