I hear ya, I'm irritated by the same things in Hollywood's depiction of the past. But, I only worked on this because I believe its doing the right thing. It definitely takes some liberties, but all films / series have to in order to condense a story down. The spirit is in the right place, though. David Goyer told me stories about how the network told him to tone down the crazy, unbelievable story points in the script, and he'd have to tell them, "No, that's REAL. That's what REALLY happened!"
Backwards melody - brilliant! What an idea, and it's true - I've seen the first episode and the main theme immediately stuck with me. I'd found me self humming it as I walked around the house.
Since I saw the first episode, all I could notice was the perfection and beautiful sound of the theme song, it is amazing and it´s still stuck in my head, which is a great thing for me. Congratulations, I can not wait to buy the soundtrack of this incredible tv show :) Great job Mister McCreary
Bear Mcreary you truly are a genius. I fell in love with your work when I first saw Galactica and now I didn't even know you did Da Vinci's Demons until I watch this. I love the show already and with you working on the music, It's just plain awesomeness. Keep on the goosebumps!
Leo's theme is my favorite piece from you and I've always thought there was something mysterious about it. So obviously my mind was blown when I heard it backwards. A musical palindrome! there is just so much to love about that! Absolutely genius. Also, the theme for the pope was my second favorite..creepy. Thank you for your music, Bear! It goes beyond being cinematic background music, and makes me fall in love with every show/film you work on.
Not many melodies force me to get my cello and play along, but that's exactly what Leo's Theme made me do. With almost two decades of musical training I appreciate fresh new beautiful compositions, but you being able to make such a fantastic theme and mold it into a musical palindrome, my hats off for you! The show itself is fighting its way to becoming one of the best tv-series I've seen, although I'm a big Da Vinci admirer to begin with.
I'm just amazed with the moment, the moment that just came to your mind make it backwards. that moment you feel pure happiness, you feel that is new, you feel that are a genius, and you, you are.
Lucrezia's theme is the purest and sweetest melody that i ever experienced in my life.. Tons of thnx for composing it..please let us grab an official track of this
Besides, if a show like this inspires people to learn more about the real man, isn't the net effect positive? There are people who don't know ANYTHING about Da Vinci who will know a lot about him after watching this.
Well said Bear McCreary. I realized even though I always idolized DaVinci, I knew very little about him. The show perks up my curiosity and my artistical sense, after watching I feel like playing music, drawing... y'know ... make stuff, which I think is great!
Wow , i knew it would take a creative person to develop that soundtrack.. i just realized, how creative this guy really is . keep on the music. i salute you.
You sir, are a genius. I'm sure you've heard this many many times. But I've started watching Da Vinci's Demons and I have Leo's theme in my head for about a week now. It's like my own personal soundtrack that is perfect each and every time I imagine it. Thank you. Also, the theme for The Walking Dead is so creepy I wish a zombie apocalypse would come so I could play the song in the appropriate environment. I applaud you.
you are a genius Beard, it sounds amazing , you know that the music gives the magic touch. Whitout this sounds da vinci's demons didn't be the same . Great job grettings from Colombia.
An once again mr. McCreary you suprise me. It keeps happening since A Good Lighter. Hope you get an Emmy for these score or at least nomination, you deserve it. But I still hopping that one day we will see the Caprica Season 1 Soundtrack
Wow Bear... I'm really impressed that you "do" look at the backwards element of some of your music pieces. I notice that in some great scores of the greats, the strings sound amazing on a lot of your backwards tracks.
I agree, few equal Bear's ability to create memorable themes. But in response to your statement: actually, he does develop an Iron Man theme in The Avengers, as well as one for Loki and the Tesseract. I'll be doing a blog post about it at some point, because I'm that kind of nerd.
Bear McCreary needs to do the music for the new Batman movies, the new Justice League movies, any superhero movies. Bear knows how to do themes that you remember, that is what you need for superheroes, like the Superman theme, and Danny Elfmans Batman theme. I really hope he gets a shot at something like that. Anyone who knows music would know he'd be perfect for all of that.
Im a music student, currently studying music with a focus on the Bass guitar. The concepts in your "train of thoughts" for composing each of the theme is amazing, specifically Leonardo's with the reversed concept and the Rome theme, with its spooky sound and and its ambiguous melodies ( which by the way sound very beautiful while still being creepy). You sir are from this point on, one of my favorite composers along with Jeremy Soule! :D
Man, I totally love your music. I was a huge fan of Leo's Theme and so I went to buy it and looked you up on iTunes. And guess what?! I found out you're the guy who did The Sarah Chronicles! No joke, I watched that show because of the music in episode 1 at the last 2 minutes. TOTALLY love that song! And this one! I like to write music (but I'm nervous to show others) and it'd be my wish to write as half as good as you do. Thanks for getting a song stuck in my head :).
I'm loving Lucrezia's theme right now! Really appreciate the commentary on all these themes, Bear. Definitely makes me want to see how it goes well with the show itself. That would require watching it, I think. =]
+Kevin Figueroa haha yes Assassin's Creed trilogy with Ezio was most helpful to learn many places in Florence, Rome and Constantinople !! This building is the Santa Croce church if i remember correctly ;)
I have a "fun" story about this : I've been a huge fan of Bear McCreary from a long time (I'm Orneon on his official forums), so I know pretty well his music, but I didn't know at all he was the composer of Da Vinci's Demons. But when I heard the theme I was like "Damn... It's so like Bear McCreary's music man. I should tell him about it and see what he thinks about that. This composer surely has found inspiration in Bear's work..." Well, I guess I know why now :)
I adore Bear, but I think Alan Silvestri is doing a damn fine job with The Avengers and Captain America. If you listen, he DOES have pretty memorable character themes, especially for the Cap'n, which is featured in both films. Bear, keep up the fantastic work. I continue to pick up pilots in spite of my busy schedule just because you are involved with them.
Wow, talk about judging a book by its cover. Look, you can hate the show you've never seen all you want. But, tune in to the first half hour and you'll see him clearly sticking to his principals of vegetarianism. Issues of his sexaulity play into major plot points in future episodes. And as for historial accuracy, far more is accurate than not. All the supporting characters and their relationships to him are legimate.
Mesmerising music, Bear! Were you ever up for scoring Man Of Steel cause after years of enjoying your BSG scores, you would definitely be my first pick! Zimmer who?
what's the song used in the carnival and also used in this video in 0:50 i can't get it out of my head i am humming all the time please tell me it's name
Forgive me for my ignorance, I'm still a beginner at the piano. What scale is Leonardo's theme in? (P.S. Similar to the child, the moment I heard the theme it stuck in my head lol. It's so beautiful.)

Very generous to share this

I’ve never seen Da Vinci’s Demons, but even so, I semi-regularly get McCreary’s music for it stuck in my head just from the samples in these videos.
Since I saw the first episode, all I could notice was the perfection and beautiful sound of the theme song, it is amazing and it´s still stuck in my head, which is a great thing for me. Congratulations, I can not wait to buy the soundtrack of this incredible tv show :) Great job Mister McCreary

4 years ago I watched this, memories come back
The logic of playing the theme backwards blew my mind..
nice I don't know why but when I'm touched by a peace of music such as this one my emotions stars to move in a strange way
Genius composer!! the world needs more musicians lik Mr Bear!
Lewisland yaaas😫
One of the best Tv shows I have ever seen, An Incredible masterpiece. It's really sad to see that they closed it with Just 3 Season.

Love the opening theme to Da Vinci Demon thank you for sharing your gift
Besides, if a show like this inspires people to learn more about the real man, isn't the net effect positive? There are people who don't know ANYTHING about Da Vinci who will know a lot about him after watching this.
Amazing. Simply amazing.
mind = blown. you're a legend man.

I was only semi-interested in seeing this show... but now I have to watch it! You're music makes everything amazing. :)
Wow , i knew it would take a creative person to develop that soundtrack..
i just realized, how creative this guy really is .
keep on the music.
i salute you.
Bear McCreary you are the best composer of the 21st century
I must see this -- Da Vinci is one of my favorite historical characters.
I really enjoy your music and the orchestrations - there is an intimacy that is rarely found now-a-days in a lot of film / tv scores.
Oh wow..this is truly amazing.
Honestly, there are few melodies as perfect as leo's theme.
You sir, are a genius. I'm sure you've heard this many many times. But I've started watching Da Vinci's Demons and I have Leo's theme in my head for about a week now. Really love the main theme. Great job! The symmetry of the melody is perfect....thanks for explaining that!
and yet another series that i'll start watching because you did the soundtracks....
An once again mr. McCreary you suprise me. It keeps happening since A Good Lighter. Hope you get an Emmy for these score or at least nomination, you deserve it. But I still hopping that one day we will see the Caprica Season 1 Soundtrack

you made me so happy ! Thanks for being the genius that you are !
Bear, your music is so great!!! I first really imagine this, when I play Lucrezias Theme on the piano. It is so beautiful!

I give up .. you destroyed my head! Just freaking amazing!!

Absolutely love this score! Brilliant stuff :)
Wow, Leo's Theme, same back to front, that was awesome
amazing project good job !!!!
These are so interesting. I would immediately watch a ten hour behind the scenes movie about composing BSG on one sitting if one was ever made.
It's like that portrait of Bach that can be played upside down or rght side up or however but still will sound great and be playable.
bear, you are my favorite composer! :)
ASSASSINS CREED 2. thats all i thought as soon as i saw the building
+Kevin Figueroa Me to Lad
+Kevin Figueroa haha yes Assassin's Creed trilogy with Ezio was most helpful to learn many places in Florence, Rome and Constantinople !! This building is the Santa Croce church if i remember correctly ;)
+Genevieve Renaud (CBoneSImWolf) that is the Duomo, the Santa Croce church is further east. It is the one where Ezio assassinates his first target.

Same as you! I want that theme name and avaliable to listen! :)
Bear's reaction at 2:26 was so adorable, haha.
Such a cool video!

Bear, my life dream is to hear your version of the Age of Empires 2 Theme.
Great!
Do you have the studio recording video of the song "The Tank Yard" from the series Da Vinci's Demons?
It's a masterpiece....💖
I will just might try to make an arrangement for this ..

Ha! It is you doing the music again. I thought I recognized the music from BSG, and I was right!
I am one of those people, who hardly knew abt DaVinci, nd now I actually googled nd searched abt him
Oh my god, the Rome theme is the Nutshack theme

Your music is excellent. I love where you played the colonial anthem on a kazoo. THATS A TALENT! Do more kazoo music
Is there a way i can view or buy the sheet music from the lucrezia theme??
Forgive me for my ignorance, I'm still a beginner at the piano. What scale is Leonardo's theme in?
(P.S. Similar to the child, the moment I heard the theme it stuck in my head lol. It's so beautiful.)
You sir, have a new fan!

I am Mozart's grandchild and you're awesome.

Reminds me of when Ezio jumped on those rooftops ^_^
