Demingods are the ones, that hold runes from the Elden Ring, and must be defeated to collect them back and rebuild the order. Tarnished are the "choosen ones", which are capable of challenging demigods and change the fate of the stagnating world. These 5 introduced in the end of trailer are somehow more like your competitors in pursuit of Elden Lord title, but all of them with different goal. Its up to you, if you choose to help to accomplish their vision, or take your own.

Playing Elden Ring really does feel like you're traveling a war-ravaged world, where the battle isn't over but is petering out because the number of available soldiers are dwindling. where you can't really find many friends because potential friends are either hiding or dead. It isn't entirely hopeless, but there's a very forlorn feeling as you look at the ruins and wonder what this place must have looked like before the Shattering. Elden Ring feels very atmospheric and *real* in a way I haven't seen in a pretty long time, while still allowing a suspension of disbelief that comes with the fantasy theme. I'm 80-ish hours in and only defeated 2 story bosses because I'm having too much fun exploring the map. Definitely recommended, especially since I personally think ER and Sekiro are the easiest (i.e. beginner-friendly) games fromsoft has created.

Godwyn was the first demigod to die but he didn't die completely. The opening actually does a really good job of subverting expectations of the viewer, even if they're Soulsborne fans who are familiar with the formula. Typically the strongest delivery in the cutscenes denotes the bosses you'll be facing on your journey (which it kind of does in a round about way here), but for the most part they're introducing your "companions" and others like you who can conqueror the demi-gods. On the flip side they use the more somber part of the cutscene to flash intros of every single Demi-God in the game (Living, dead, "friendly", or boss) with the exception of Godrick so you sort gloss over them the first time around. After play through the game once though and fighting all of these literal gods, each image in the first part of the trailer has so much more going on with the context and show the events that have made the world of Elden Ring into what it is currently.
Absolutely phenomenal story telling from George and the Fromsoft team.

This is actually good and preferable for these kinds of games. Most of the story can be deduced from the game yet it will forever have the mystique that the game had 11 years ago. This also made me think about the world much more deeply than i have ever thought about another fantasy game.

vaatividya has a(imo)great lore video for Elden ring but it does have a lot of spoilers if y’all plan on playing it. But another way to look at it is basically “something/one” shattered the Elden ring, the queen is missing, her children started fighting over the most powerful pieces of the ring but none became the winners/the new elden lord, so now “something” is guiding the tarnished(you& those characters name did the intro)to try to do what the Demi god children couldnt and become the new Elden lord

The woman named Malenia who has the prosthetic arm (she is blind and only has one arm, so cool!) was the one who had the fiery flower bloom. It was her last resort to beat Radahn, though it ended up with him being corrupted by the scarlet bloom that she spread, and her being rendered unconscious and having to be whisked away to safety by one of her knights. She is also the hardest boss in the game, and many say of all the Soulsborne games.

Love the channel you guys, and don't worry about not understanding, one of the great things about the game is that you figure out the story as you go along. It's not told to you specifically because you're just a wanderer, but if you pay enough attention and read the descriptions of all the items you pick up, you get more filled in as to how everyone is related and how everything happened. A lot of it is still up in the air and up for interpretation but one of the best parts of the game is the discussions within the community about what *you* think happened.

The demigods have the shards of the Elden Ring, and they initially wanted them all so that one of them could become Elden Lord. But in their war over the shards none of them won, none of them became Elden Lord. That caused the Greater Will to abandon them and awaken the Tarnished so that the tarnished could be guided by grace (lights in the sky) which leads them to the shards of the Elden Ring so that maybe one of them can succeed and become Elden Lord where all the Demigods failed.
The rest I typed here is spoilery if thats a worry, though most players probably don't know half of this even after finishing the game. Passive storytelling does that. But I'll say you don't have to be too afraid of Elden Ring. Banging ones head against the bosses is an aquired taste so don't worry about the skill thing, the game has plenty of options to make it more streamlined. You could even summon viewers for whatever boss is too much of a problem and they'll be more than happy to show off whatever weapon or spell they have to trivialize any boss in the game.
But back to explaining. The messed up part about it is that the Tarnished were initially cast out by the Greater Will, thats why they're called Tarnished. The first person who was cast out was actually the first Elden Lord himself, Godfrey, father of Godwyn the Golden. He apparently had served his purpose as Queen Marikas consort when he defeated the giants, so they cast him out and he was then named Horah Loux. So now it is kinda messed up that the Greater Will calls them all back just because all their other subjects failed. The Two Fingers (agents of the Greater Will which is a god) are in other words just using the Tarnished for their own gain, likely to banish them again once they've served their purpose. That can lead you to some interesting choices in the game. Do you follow the Greater Will or do you choose a different path.
All the demigods are Queen Marikas children or later descendants, children she had with 2 different consorts. The first consort was Godfrey the first Elden Lord. They had Gowdyn the Golden, Mogh the Blood Lord, and Morgott the Omen King. The demigod called Godrick seems to be a descendant of Godwyn the Golden. Queen Marika then had a couple more children with the second Elden Lord called Radagon of the Golden Order. They had Miquella and Malenia. But their children were cursed. Miquella whos a boy was cursed to forever be a child, but despite that he's supposedly the most powerful of the demigods. Malenia is his sister, shes the red haired valkyrie with the metal arm in the trailers. Her curse was the scarlet rot which now covers large potions of the land after her fight with Radahn. Onto the next 3 demigods whom were the offspring of Radagon of the Golden Order and the Carian Queen Rennala. First is Scarscourge Radahn, the giant guy who controls gravity. Then it's Ranni the Witch whos the big hat two-faced blue witch from the trailers, and lastly Praetor Rykard the Lord of Blasphemy.
You might have noticed that I said they were all the offspring of Queen Marika yet three of them are born to Rennala and Radagon. Thats because at some point Radagon and Queen Marika merged into one. You can even see this in the trailers. The person whos hitting the Elden Ring sometimes look feminine with boobs and all, but suddenly they look like a buff man with no bra. We don't actually know the details of this, we just know that Marika shattered the Elden Ring and that Radagon tried to repair it. How and why they're merged is a bit vague. But thats why Radagons children he had with Rennala are considered offspring of Marika and are therefore demigods.
How Miquella and Malenia re born to the same entity is a bit unclear. Were they born before they merged? Who knows but this might be why they're so power yet both cursed.
Theres alot more like the Godskin Apostles and their Dusk Eyed Queen. Shabriri and Frenzied Flame, the god of Chaos. The Blood Goddess. The fact that Godwyn the Golden became the god of death after his soul died and he is now being worshipped by Fia the Deathbed Companion whom now tries to birth him anew. Theres so much more, so I expect multiple DLCs.

No spoilers below, but there are vague suggestions on what to look for as you explore.
Elden Ring is difficult and where you should be going and how you go about things is not obvious at all. There are certain secrets that I would have never known about if my friends hadn't told me; Walls/floors that you have to hit for them to open secret passages, hidden caverns on the sides of cliffs, questlines from side characters that talk about vague missions... It's difficult. There are ways to make the game easier by just over-leveling for bosses or using meta-builds that are strong, but having a blind first playthrough can be fun in its own way. Every big story boss has a cinematic and the side characters & environment build the world atmosphere.
The game grows on you slowly. Dying to a boss for 3 hours is aggravating, but finally winning against something you've been frustrated with because you earned the win by learning how they move, when to dodge, when to attack, when to block, etc. it makes for a huge feeling of success, like you've overcome a giant challenge. Not every boss is going to take 3 hours though, some you may beat on the first or second try, but there are a few that are extremely difficult. Some are difficult to certain builds while easy to other builds, so try changing your approach and what weapons you use and you could have a lot more fun using the 31 different weapon types the game has to offer. Don't force yourself to stick to using any 1 weapon, better weapons that are more your style will appear and make sure to look at what they do in their description, certain weapons have special abilities and drastically change how they're used.
Don't feel rushed to make progress, take your time, explore, and try to find a way for you to enjoy the game. If a boss is too difficult, LEAVE, go explore other areas, level up, get a better weapon, and then go back and crush them! Good luck, have fun.

When you should play the game, please read all of your item descriptions because they really tell and elaborate on the story of this game, if you want to really understand it. The few mentioned after he said "Tarnished" are notable Tarnished figures we will come across who all have some sort of different roll in things, but are each significant for their own thing. In Elden Ring they'll outright share with us what they're after and wish to do in visiting them enough, so we're honestly left with few questions of that nature of the game, so instead, most of the real mysteries lie in beforehand, and to some Queen Marika's family tree in detail even after it's explained a few times. To be fair, the before hand timelines aren't the easiest to piece together as the aftermath since we actually live through part of that and get to decide the results of.
But to explain what a Tarnished is (if interested). Queen Marika and those of demigod/other gods are considered Empyrean race, and those of blood ties/marriage ties to Marika/Radagon get to be deemed demigod as their heritage and abilities and blood can be of most comparable by nature, even if rather thinner in direct lineage poses disadvantages. Could also argue they were those who held Great Runes of the Elden Ring. But those human whom served under of Hoarah Loux, after one of their greatest wars would see their grace had been lost, and they would have left the Lands Between to distant locations past the fog of our presented known world. In the aftermath of all the conflicts in the Lands Between, the calls of Tarnished visitors had begun in order for the sake of the Greater Will, some were still within the lands and had never left, and some would be taking their own initiative of establishment before we get there. Tarnished visitors would have a Finger Maiden to aid them on their journey to tackle the most wildly accepted initially given task to all Tarnished, seek the Elden Ring and restore it to the greater will with enough Great Rune Shards held by the demigods. Anything more specific than that would be either an actual spoiler or be debatable. It's tbh the history that's the most difficult to fully get right, but a selective few characters set certain details right and more to speculation, while clarifying what it is that they intend to do or want us to do.

The lore/story of FromSoftware games are always obtuse, the cut scenes don't explain much, you need to go into item descriptions to really get into the details and understand the relationships. Even then, it can still be confusing. I highly recommend watching Vaati Vidya lore explanation videos for the entire FromSoftware catalog. He is excellent at explaining the lore and stories. Elden Ring is very similar to a concept we have in our philosophy, called "Logos"
In a oversimplified explanation, Logos are all the rules and laws that govern the universe
Now imagine if someone had the power to control Logos, that's Marika, now imagine she for some reason decided to completely corrupt the Logos

Malenia ( fake arm sword lady ) is one of the harder bosses in the game. And she is the cause of a plague in the game. She fought general radahn (big guy with two swords) since she never has been beaten and wanted to try fighting him as he is really strong. She couldn't win this time. So Since she has never known defeat she didn't want to lose to radahn so she jumped on him and stabbed herself. Using the scarlet aeonia ( red flower ) to unleash the scarlet rot. Radahn was too strong to die from it but it drove him (mostly) insane. Malenia was weakened from that attack and was taken away to safety by one of her cleanrot knights. The scarlet rot ended up consuming the part of the continent known as caelid. So yeah... malenia was a battle nut and when she wasn't winning became a terrorist. And apparently even when he was crazy radahn was holding back the stars with his gravity magic. So he could've been next to impossible to beat in the game if he didn't hold back even while 99% crazy

Funny thing about G.R.R. Martin is that Myazaki told him to write the characters and the world so Myazaki could twist and break the characters to their worse. The serpent dude that you saw in the trailer for exemple is Praetor Rykard, he was known as a kind and benevolent ruler...but the shard of the Elden Ring he was given to drove him mad with power....so he fed himself to the big snake so that he could never die and devour the gods TOGETHAAA!!

  • @cerb1221
    @cerb1221 2 роки тому +1

Ok, so to explain the story, an explanation of the family is probably also needed. Names are very important as they practically give you the family lines. First is the Golden line, as i will dub it. Godfrey (not mentioned in trailers) and Queen Marika had Godwyn The Golden and Godrick The Grafted, Godfrey and Marika had children outside Godfrey though. Morgott and Mohg which are cursed from birth to become Omens, The Loathsome Dung Eater is the one who curses others to be born Omens, and no, he does not actually eat dung. He is just a generally horrible person who does unspeakable things to bodies to curse their rebirth. Then there is the children of Radagon (not mentioned in trailers) and Rennala had Ranni (narrator in the first trailer), Rykard, The Lord of Blasphemy (guy whose head is being eaten by a snake) , and Radahn, Conqueror of the Stars. And finally Marika and Radagon. They had Malenia, Blade of Miquela/The Severed, and Miquela.
Now its time for the actual story, the Tarnished are undead who are forsaken by the Erdtree, which is the life source of The Lands Between. With the disappearance of Queen Marika there is a power scramble for the throne and godship. Some of the demigods are Shardbearers, who hold the shards of the Elden Ring, which is a tap for unknowable power. But The Lands Between are broken, shattered, and difficult to put back together. Outer Gods have their own agenda's for The Lands Between and how it should be run, Outer Gods are gods from outside The Lands Between that still have sizable influence on The Lands Between. There are a LOT of Outer Gods within the universe, i'll only explain the bigger, more important ones. There is The Greater Will, which is the creator of The Elden Ring in a roundabout way and the most influential Outer God. Then there is The Frenzied Flame, which is a source of great madness and insanity. It is a malevolent force hell bent on the destruction of The Lands Between. There are others, like The Formless Mother, or The Sealed God of Scarlet Rot, but they arent as important. Our tarnished is following lost grace, which i believe is a guide from The Greater Will, although unconfirmed. There is a lot more to go into but im tired lol.

You're correct. The names that the narrator mentions aren't the demigods, no. But the people that it shows before showing the different Tarnished are the demigods, the girl in white (whom you also saw in the story trailer), the guy who was fighting off a red haired guy (Morgott and Radahn), and of course, Malenia, who you've no doubt seen in a lot of promo imagery.
If you don't want spoiler, please don't read further (I mean it, I'm putting some pretty big spoilers here):
    [ANOTHER MAJOR SPOILER ALERT]:
The Tarnished here are actually very crucial to the story. Of which the most crucial is Hoarah Loux; or as her wife Marika would call him: Godfrey. Actually, what happened was that Hoarah Loux became an Elden Lord, but he was driven by his immense rage and bloodlust. So to suppress his rage and emotions, he was given Serosh, the Lion on his back that would keep his emotions in check and prevent him from being too brutal. And thus the brutal, merciless Hoarah Loux became the regal, ferocious Godfrey. And the demigods you see...they're all Godfrey and Marika's children. Some are Radagon and Rennala's children, who classified as demigods too as Radagon would later on become the second Elden Lord. Which is why now Ranni, Radahn and Rykard too hold the power of demigods.

Godwyn was Queen Marika's favorite son and he was the first slain by the Black Knife assassin's. In her grief she shattered the Elden Ring but her husband the Elden Lord Radagon attempted to repair it. Thus most of the Demigods are fighting for the runes they got from their parents. Each Demigod is quite a great character with their own values and it's not a simple good and evil fight between them.
My personal favorite is Ranni who is the blue doll lady with four arms and she is the reason this whole shattering happened because she didn't want to rule a land that was twisted and under the influence of The Greater Will , but each demigod can be a favorite.
The two demigods you see fighting are Malenia and Radahn in a fight that basically destroyed a sixth of the continent known as Caelid.
The community absolutely loves Radahn since he is like the gigachad leader with a loving heart also his fight is spectacular. On the other side is Malenia who is an amazing character who became strong even when cursed with scarlet rot (Think of it like ultimate space poison) to protect her brother (Miquella) who was cursed to be a child forever, but has dedicated his life and vast knowledge to cure her. She is also the hardest fight in the game so people hate her.
There are others such as Mohg, Morgott, Rykard, Godrick, and of course Miquella whom all have their own tales and goals which range from noble to pretty messed up.
The lore is much deeper than just the demigods as The Greater Will is not the only outer god with it's eyes on The Lands Between.

It's not entirely sure what exactly happened, but it's speculated that Marikas grief over the death of Godwyn is what caused her to destroy the elden ring which led to the runes being claimed & the great war known as "the shattering" being fought amongst the remaining demi-gods for the power to claim the runes & become the new elden lord. The last 2 lords remaining were Malenia (the chick who you saw get her arm cut off) and radahn (big dude that cut her). However their fight was at best a tie, malenia went into a deep sleep & Radahn was rotted & lost his mind. The people listed at the end of the intro were other tarnished that you will meet during your journey. Most of them want to become the next elden lord but a few of them have different motives. Godwyn was the son of Queen Marika and Godfrey. After he was Caesared by the black knife assassins Marika shattered the elden ring. After the elden ring was shattered the demigods started fighting to steal each other's great runes so they could gain power.

Contrary to his name loathsome dung eater is really loathsome. Some spoilers so be warned.
When marika removed what essentially is permanent death in the lands between. Everyone is able to be reincarnated into the same body. What loathsome dung eater does is he interferes with that. He "defiles" the dead body and puts a curse on them which turns them into omens( they look like morgot/margit) when they reincarnate. The more loathsome part is that he just doesnt curse just the body. He curses their entire bloodline so everyone in the family and their kids become one. And he specifically states he just wants to do it for no reason other than to sow chaos and strife

If u re interested into the story of Elden Ring i recomend to react to the story videos of VaatiyVidya, I agree that everything is confusing, thats cause of the (pretty amazing) storytellign of the game. In the Cinematic u saw everyone of Marikas Children. Godwyn, with the sliced back. They guy laying down the crown on the throne, the creepy big guy carrying something is Mohg and what he was carrying was Malenias twin brother Miquella. Malenia herself, the women with the severed arm and the big guy, Radahn. And last but never ever forgotten the blue girl with 4 arms is Ranni (Love her x) ).

    • @acrab6527
      @acrab6527 2 роки тому

Well Marika had a lot more kids that weren't shown, but they're not very relevent to the plot. Like Rosus who is just going, "Shit I left the tomb door open and all the dead got out, better light the tarnished signal to get them reburied" and that's his whole contribution to the plot. Or all the other demigods the godskin apostles killed offscreen.

Like most From Software games, the story is much more hidden, though Elden Ring's story is more in the forefront and less hidden.
Apparently, Georg R. R. Martin created the world/lore before the shattering of the Elden Ring, and From Software took it from there.

In this world, the gods can only act through proxies, they cannot act directly. So The Greater Will (basically god) chose Marika. She married Godfrey the chief of the basically Mongolians of the world, and used them to conquer all the Lands Between.
But then with the lands at peace, you don't need the warlord anymore, so she robbed them of their divine grace and banished them as Tarnished out of the Lands Between. And wanting eternal peace, she went to the Elden Ring.
The Elden Ring is the laws of the universe. Marika took out the rune of Destined Death, the law that makes everything die eventually, and hid it. That way, everyone could live in peace forever.
But someone found where she hid it, and made weapons from it that could kill even the immortals, and started by killing her favorite son, Godwyn the Golden. Then went to hunt all her other demigod children from both of her husbands, and her 2nd husband's ex wife.
So Marika smashed the whole Ring in her grief, basically undoing the laws of physics and time, and everything in the Lands Between. The Greater Will did not like her going against it's wishes and undoing it's laws of the universe, so it dragged her out of the world to punish her.
All the demigods then fought to collect the shards to try and put the world back the way they think it should be. Each demigod, and some other folks, and even some other gods that couldn't do anything while the ring was in tact start vying to put the ring back together with minor changes to make themselves more powerful, or their ideologies correct.
So Marika gives grace back to the Tarnished and calls them back through the fog, to put the Elden Ring back together and free her from her punishment.
And I don't really even think that's spoilers since it's all backstory before the game even starts.

Godwyn is dead but his body is still alive ageing

The "crazy hair" is the Scarlet/Crimson Rot, literally the essence of an Elder God. (and not a friendly one) In addition to the intrigue and corruption of the Elden Lords, this being has some design for the Lands Between and the effects of its presence are not pleasant to mortal or god alike.
There is no resolute quest, just like the other games. The world exists and you are free to damn or redeem it at your whim. There is no right or wrong or black or white. Some Lords may aid you, some may betray you, some literally cannot move out of the past, and some simply wish the future to literally burn forever.
The story also isn't done. Several Lords and quests are still unseen and unsaid, and there are parts of the map that seem unfinished, waiting for their part in the story to be finished.

Don't be dissuaded by the difficulty, because it is dynamic. Just go somewhere else whenever you find a roadblock, and come back later. Dying is part of the game, and destroying a dragon that is an icon of strength should not be an easy feat.
Margit the fell Omen is the first boss that gives players trouble, but he is as hard as he should be. Some people call him a casual-filter and complain he is too hard for a first boss. The reality is that he is not the first boss. He is just the one that is easiest to reach. He will tell you to lay your foolish ambitions to rest as he mow you down like grass. He is one of Marika's children, and he is badass.

Elden Ring, like all the Souls games before it, tells its story with the items and environment. You will need to read everything you come across in the game to understand the story. Also, with its open world aspect giving you way more options to tackling the difficult fights compared to previous Souls games, it's a great game for newcomers to the genre.
