Thank you!! for you doing a breakdown on Sally's psychology. I've seen so many videos that focus on the male characters while glossing over her characterization. There was one breakdown that interpreted her ending as a happy and fulfilling one. I couldn't believe they missed her **spoilers** self-involvement, how she didn't return her son's "I love you" and how she wasn't interested in what he was up to, only his validation of her accomplishments. After watching your video, it makes so much sense that Sally inevitably became her mother in the end.
i think Sally's trauma is perplex, and, while she does make moves to improve, that trauma will shape even what she considers to be improvement. i really do like what they did with her in the final season as they truly added a lawyer of depth to her in ways that only make the character more interesting
I view Sally incredibly differently after seeing the scenes with her mom- it explains so much about how she behaves and how she is unable to connect with and love her own son. It takes her from often seeming ridiculous in season 1 and 2, to a tragic figure in a battle with a history no one sees, probably not even herself. I doubt she has much insight into it and so everything becomes a reaction to it- trying to get what she needs - safety and validation. Made me incredibly sad
i agree. this season really developed Sally into a more fleshed out character and i think it was for the best. though i wouldnt say it justifies her actions, it shows that she is reacting to her trauma in the only way she knows how.
great I love to see video essays of Barry I feel like its gone under the UA-cam radar quite a bit but great job on this one
Thank you so much!!! it truly means a lot 😊
I think the show is really something special and I'm glad it's got a passionate fanbase but I do agree that it isnt as discussed as a lot of its peers. I think, for season 4, part of that is because it's being overshadowed by the other HBO series coming out on sundays (succession) but im hoping that it gets more love once they stop dual releasing.
The way the final season ends is such a perfect connection to this theme with

how John will continue to live a completely deluded life, never knowing the reality of who he is or who his parents are, being a fake identity like Sally and Barry
A big part of season 4 (and the show in general) is showing that we all live deluded lives, never knowing the reality we live in. The best we can hope for is to break through our self-delusions. Barry did not kill Ryan Madison, but because Janice Moss deluded herself to believe otherwise she put Barry into a him vs her moment where he deluded himself that he only had one way out. Once we get into later portions we are shown how society pushes these delusions on us, and then deludes itself that it had nothing to do with this.
why am i writing essays? it should be you two. i love this
@@FilmsProphet You set the groundwork for these ideas! I'm curious to know your opinion now that the season is done.
The video essays are too good to have so few views!
im grateful for the viewers i do get, especially when they're as kind and supportive as this 😊
Your points are all phenomenally intriguing! I found the fourth season to be the hardest for me to watch (but I could never look away) because it feels like I’m watching all my favorite characters at their worst. But all your points really make me understand these people and why they would do what they do in this season FAR clearer. It really makes me think about how (and why) Barry went about trying to be the father figure he tries to be in the fifth episode (which was a very brutal episode to watch). Can’t wait to see what you think of the second half of the season!
Thank you so much for the kindness! I was really happy to make this and I'm extremely grateful to see it appreciated! Lmk what you think when it finishes too!
Though I finished this video after ep4 came out, it was entirely written between ep3-4. I would have never predicted the season would take the turn it did and it's been fascinating to see where it goes. Cant wait to see what next week's finale has in store
this video is absolute cinema
ahhhhh thank you so much!!! i do my best 🙏
You should do a whole analysis or something about Barry once it’s finished
i try not to oversaturate with videos on one topic but i do have A LOT to say about how it ended in a future video.
Another perfect Barry video
thank you!! i do my best and every bit of support pushes me to make each video better. a third barry video is on the way!!
@@FilmsProphet Keep doing what you are doing can’t wait to see the next Barry video !
let’s fucking go!!!
got a few videos taken down recently so i'm glad i got this one out.
thank you for the support!! 🙏🙏
@@FilmsProphet that sucks i’m so sorry to hear that! this video ruled keep up the good work !!
This may seem like a strange suggestion but I've just finished watching The Devil's Plan on Netflix and it got me hooked all through.
I feel like it suceeded in the reality game show genre and did things so much better than others do. This one stood out to me because I usually can't stand those shows but this one I loved.
Maybe give it a watch and see if you can find the words to explain what makes it so different. What they did right.
i havent spoken about reality shows here because of the nature of the channel, but i LOVE them. i will binge entire shows in one sitting. ill definitely check it out
For Sally I was thinking, oh now all this makes sense and season 4 really helped delve even more into her character and how dynamic and tragic her story is 😢
i agree. i don't want to go in too much detail here bc im planning on putting out a video about s4 soon-ish, but Sally's character really benefited the most from this season development-wise. it truly fleshed her out in a way that allowed the viewers to understand her better.
#MeToo (my own dad) - my mom didn't believe me either.
im so sorry you had to experience that. and im sorry the people who were support and protect you did not.
God I hate Sally’s mom but I do like her dad
i agree. though, i do wonder if, with her mother, this is generational trauma as well.
