I almost always forget to use a timer, and have found that with these micros the motor will cut (flight batt low voltage protection) at such a voltage that will still allow gyro and control surfaces to function to allow recovery. So most times I just go for altitude and play high. I think that the 3g mode just stabilises your input , not self levelling, but allows for a good breeze, go high ! In 3g mode found low rates ok for aerobatics without touching any linkages, hi alpha is a hoot in a breeze, and As it is so light and floaty,it's good fun in a wind , gyros rock ! On one ship I worked on , we were approaching the traffic separation zone in the English channel , at night with reduced visibility due to a passing shower, and the Captain came up to the bridge ,took a wander out on both wings for a look-see and then said in the broadest of Belfast accents , " Always give yrself plenty of room to manyouver" and then went back to his paperwork. I guess I must have done ok as didn't hear a peep for the rest of my watch. I can hear that voice in my sleep all these years later. Looking forward to the next exciting installment ! Enjoy , life's too short.
@@associatedblacksheepandmisfits Hey John! I will definitely be testing this in some significant wind. I don't think it will take much wind at all to hover this one. I had a lot of fun just climbing to altitude, cutting the throttle and letting it glide back ;-) Once I get it tamed in 3D/3G Mode on the toy TX I'm going to test it out with the TX16S. I already have it programmed I'm just not sure of the Gyro switch until I can test it in flight. Hehehe...I've been to Belfast, had lunch at Pub there. When I told the lady working at the Bar I was of Celtic Ancestry on both side of my Family, she asked what County I was from, when I replied I wasn't sure she was completely disgusted with me. I was so ashamed ;-)
Greetings from Australia. I’m just a 60 odd year old beginner. I’ve been flying my XK Beaver & Volantex Sport Cub. So far only in beginner mode. I’ve ordered this one after watching your informative reviews. Will be a bit of a learning curve I reckon. Thanks for your great unbiased reviews.
Greetings and thank you! Hehehe...I'll be hitting 60 this year ;-) Parkjets are different but once you get used to them I think they're easier to fly than traditional planes. See you in the Air!
Hey Jono! I had a lot of fun with it the first time out I just need to get it tamed a bit which is the usual thing with these micros. Yes, I may need to burn a cross into the foam ;-) Wasn't the J3 Cub one of theirs? Even Holy Water wouldn't work on that one ;-) See you in the Air!
Hi John! It's a fun little parkjet. I'm going to have to take mine back out again soon. You don't find many this size with brushless motors ;-) See you in the Air!
For some reason I thought you did this one some time ago. Must have been another prop-jet. Looks like a fine flying day. The snow on the peaks make me feel chilly though. Cold there, or desert-warm? I remember designing a control-line design like that while in jr. high school. More of a diamond-shaped wing though. I never did build it. Ahhh, those horrible RTF transmitters. I have several (A160, A220, X420) and I have never used them except for a brief time with the VTOL X420. The other 2 mentioned birds have DSMX radios now and I found the superior X520's X8 transmitter binds to the X420. Xk sells some nice airframes, but not thrilled with the electronics for the most part.
Hehehe...I think these all look alike after a while. I reviewed the Eachine Mini F16 Brushed Motor Parkjet, the Flybear F-35 Brushed Motor Parkjet, and the KF Plane F-35 Brushed Motor Parkjet. This is the 1st Factory Brushless one I've flown. It's not too cold if the Sun is out and there's not too much Wind ;-) I think the coldest flight I've had this year was 18F. That's cold enough I guess. I found this one will bind up to the TX16S so I'll be posting some flights with it. That should be fun with a Hobby-Grade TX. XK is not one of my favorites with the electronics but I have to give them points for being one of the few that make Brushless Micro Planes. I noticed they got smart and re-introduced the DHC-2 Beaver in EPP Foam instead of that terrible EPS Foam. I may have to take another look at that one. I was unfortunate enough to have owned the EPS Foam version for a very short while ;-) It was a very nice flying plane though, just not durable at all.
@@GroundControlRC Yah, the A900 looks good to me now. It would be interesting to know of any weight increase that came with, since EPP does weight more.
Hey Steve! Yes, I just programmed it into the TX16S last night. I'll have to perform a test flight to make sure the High/Low Rates are working and the 6G/3D Modes are working as they should. I'll try to get it flying well on the Stock TX and then Test it with the TX16S. Very fun in 6G Mode, hard to fly right now in 3D Mode.
Since when powered on its gyro is on 3d or 6g always and can never be turned off..so how can you accurately know you needed to reposition servo arm.?..i do this all time when setting up my planes, but i just zero all trims and i have no gyro...
IMO you can never get a plane properly trimmed and balanced without a full manual mode. I know many people disagree with me on that but that's the way I see it. I change the linkage on mine to prevent oscillations from the gyro by getting as much movement from the servo arms as I can and that also makes the controls much smoother. These tiny servos don't have a lot of movement to begin with so that helps someone like me that doesn't have a soft touch on the controls ;-) You just have to trim it as best as you can in 3D Mode where the gyro isn't correcting as much.
@@GroundControlRC i agree...i think eachine like the 400 mm t28 i just got ,the gyro can be is totally off in advanced which is great...but for the price this xk a180 is fantastic.
The companies switching to the micro brushless will force the brushed motor companies to start using the brushless or go out of business. I'll never buy another brushed.
Hi Jack! Yes, I definitely prefer brushless motors and as we've seen they can be priced approx. the same as the ones with brushed motors. I have been searching for a brushless warbird of appox. the same size as the Arrows Pioneer and Sub 250g but have so far come up empty handed. Hopefully we'll see one of those soon.
