Wow, I didn't know Lyll could be used for Xemn's scenario. You just made me love her even more! Even without using the pause jump, you could probably sub jump shoes and quick item swaps. I'm gonna try it myself. I didn't even think it was possible to beat Archwinger without the shield. This was badass. Great run.
This has my vote for THE most impossible game in the entire NES library. Harder than Ninja Gaiden, Ghosts & Goblins, or Battletoads. You not only had to map out the entire dungeon, you had to document where every single hidden item, breakable block, pitfall, and teleport was. Then you had to figure out which route went with each character. Then you had to plan out exact item usage and inn visit management (a MUCH bigger factor when you're not tool assisted or exploiting glitches). And on top of all that, you had to grind gold which is a massive pain in the ass (and also a much bigger factor when you're not a speedrunner since you chew through elixirs and magic refills like crazy).
I think it would actually be simpler if any hint were given about changing inns to shops. Even if you found the secret shop with the shield in it, who would ever think to jump and touch the sign except by an accident? The shield really does simplify the only real impossible part of the game. (or so I thought until watching this run)
I loved this game as a kid I always played with the pink blob or the little pink girl absolutely the best game that kept my mind busy as a child they have it on steam I think
It had awesome potential as a dungeon crawler version of Super Mario 2/Doki Doki Panic, but the difficulty was so off the charts insane that 99.9% of players wouldn't even come close to beating it, or really getting anywhere at all without dedicating their entire childhoods to it.

Awesome. I only managed to find one crown and that was with the pink monster guy who didn’t take damage from monsters.
Used to love this game as a kid but still after 30 years I dunno how to play it. Yes, even after watching this

Hardest most boring god damn game of my childhood. I don’t see how ANYONE can like this game. .
