"Biggie's Ready to Die album came out several months after Illmatic, and Biggie was crowned king of New York in the popular culture of Hip Hop heads, Ready to Die unfairly over-shadowed Illmatic, which is truly a classic album. Though they were quite distinct artists, they innovated in analogous ways. Biggie merged language that was high and low, vernacular and vocabulary words, in a way that sounded natural. He did this with a sophisticated understanding of the patterns of black language. When a different or unusual word or phrase could be introduced while still maintaining the aesthetics of black language, he inserted it.
NaS, in contrast, merged concepts that were high and low, vernacular and metaphysical, in a manner that was whole rather than pieced together, thus presenting a complex that is unusual in any music outside of jazz. Aah I see the classic Nas Stan/Illmatic intellectual elitist, hipster attitude is still going strong after all these years 😌 Basically, if you don’t agree with us and think illmatic is the greatest musical creation piece ever = _it’s not a short coming of the album, it’s your fault, your inept, you’re not intellectually enlightened enough to “comprehend” the nonpareil genius it_ 🙄 ffs tiresome..Personally, I choose ready to die. Illmatic is a good album, but for me RTD exhibits much more colourful and vivid rhymes and stories. Biggies narration is _far more_ charismatic and entertaining than Nas and RTD also has more hits (for good reason) and superior production and musicality. Therefor = It has to be the better album.

I love Ready To Die and I like Illmatic. When I first heard Illmatic I thought it was boring actually. It grew on me but I don’t understand the hype behind it. People say it’s a classic and I’ll agree but it’s not the type of album that made me go OMG this is a CLASSIC amazing album!! Best album EVER. Nah and I’m a big Nas fan. Lyrically Nas takes it and even Biggie thought so but it’s far too short. Nas could have tossed One Time 4 Ya Mind in the garbage. It fits the album more BUT I prefer the original Memory Lane. GREAT call on remixing Represent!! Ready To Die is a beautiful adventure from beginning to end. The Source should have given the album five mics and tossed that weak review they did for the album in the trash where it belongs. The Sauce realized they messed up giving Biggie every award at the ‘95 Source Awards. Overcompensating at its finest. Nas should have got Best Lyricist. How do you give the Best Album award to the guy who got half a mic less than the guy you gave five mics to?🤔 It made NO SENSE. The Source should have lost ALL credibility after that stunt.👎🏾👎🏾
