Awesome! I just picked up a white 2020 Power Wagon and plan to use it for overlanding. I traded in a 2021 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 4xE and have owned many Jeeps, a 2014 PW, and a Gladiator Rubicon in the past. Same reasons as you: the room, the capability, and a few others that I realized after owning a 4xE for 7 months, drew me back to my favorite truck of all-time. Can't wait to see your future mods!
To funny, I own a 21 PW and just added a 22 Rubi 4xe (wife). I have owned a plethora of pickup trucks over the last 30 years and must say this thing is my absolute favorite.
As a current PW owner who cross shopped the gladiator as well I know you will be pleased. We are a family of four who ride mtb and climb regularly. Fitting all of the outdoor gear and still being comfortable while still have a truck capable enough to go wheeling made the PW the obvious choice. And honestly, if you are scared of pinstripes the PW fits on 99% of trails. Even here on the East Coast(Pa, Va, Wv) I haven’t had a problem getting it through and in many cases the long wheel base makes it more stable through obstacles that make my rubicon feel tippy and it make steep climbs feel like cheating. I cross shopped the gladiator (and c8, oddly) as well. Simply couldn't get beyond the upcharge of the gladiator that's has half the size and at best e/4 capability of the power wagon. The Jeep is good, but the PW is superb.
This comment is exactly what I have been needing. I live in the midwest and most trails would be in the same setting of PA, VA, and WV. I didn't really want a jeep because I still need to tow a smallish boat.
It is really nice to see other people using the Power Wagon. My husband & I have a 2018 Ram Power Wagon & it is super hard to find anyone who uses them for overlanding or off-roading. Excited to see how yours comes along!
Appreciate the comment and I feel the same way about the power wagon. I couldn't find anything good on it while I was searching so I decided to make some good stuff around the build. Thanks again!
@@roamingwithjosh hey there i just bought a 2022 Power Wagon also and i love the wheel/tire set up you have. Can you provide links to the exact rims and tires ?

It took Me 8 months after ordering to Receive My 2022 Power Wagon as I ordered it in 6-21. And took Delivery in 2-22. But It was worth the wait and I Love My PW Level 2 with the Bed Group, 12” Infotainment Screen, and Dual Alternators… Good Choice!!! 👍
Bad ass! I bought a Rebel 2 years ago. I love it, wish I could afford a power wagon. Rebel is still pretty damn capable. Love the channel, and now I'm even more pumped 🙌
Dude, a rebel is more than a power wagon. I ordered a brand new 2022 PW in September and ended up paying $53k out the door when it got here in January. The cheapest rebel was closer to 58k.
@@quick906 I was wondering what the gas mileage difference is not much on the road more expensive to drive than the 6.4L so cost of ownership over time might be a lot more.
@@terrytuepah171 I'm averaging about 12.2 with the PW. My buddy with a 2021 Rebel gets about mid 16s mixed with the 5.7 eTorque. We both have larger tires on our trucks, 315/70 17s

I just put the same wheels on my new power wagon yesterday. I got 35 baja boss a/t's. Like having the snowflake rating. It is huge. I came from a gladiator on 37s.
@@roamingwithjosh That's funny. We went through the same thought process apparently. Enjoyed the built up gladiator but missed having a bigger v8 truck and didn't want to loose much off road capability. I have twin 7 year olds and needed the space and the trade in on my jeep was way too good to pass up. I got mine about 3 weeks back. I will be keeping an eye on your progress with the build. I have sliders on the way and I'm considering a bed cap. I agree on not really needing a lift but am considering shocks. I had fox remote reservoir shocks on my jeep so considering something similar.
@@roamingwithjosh Once I make a decision I'll definitely let you know. If you swap yours out do the same. I think Carli and Thuren have some tuned specifically for the power wagon but need to do more research.
I still do, but my family requires more so unfortunately their needs come first. I still get to do a lot of awesome stuff so it’s a small price to pay to accommodate everyone. Thanks for the comment!
Love this build. Epic. Question... what is your hub center to fender measurements? I'm rubbing 35's in the wheel wells on stock wheels. Couldn't imagine 37's, AEV wheels or not...
I just traded a new Gladiator and picked up a new PW. The Gladiator struggled to pull a 2500lb Turtleback Trailer even though it is rated to tow 7,000 lbs. I wasn’t going to keep torturing that poor Jeep! I am very much looking forward to taking my trailer out, I have only had my Power Wagon four days. Thanks for sharing by the way and cannot wait to see the rest of the build, I found you because I am specifically looking at an RSI top for the new PW.
Right on! That was my biggest complaint about the gladiator. I don't care what any person on planet earth says, you put a load on that gladiator and it barely functions as a vehicle. That was one of our biggest reasons for upgrading to the PW. New video comes out tomorrow about the 80/20 custom build I'm doing in the back. Thanks for the input and support, congrats on the PW!
I have not had any issues with the smart cap leaking. I have owned two of them and both were leak free. They need to be maintained properly and re-tightened from time to time, especially if you take your rig off-road.
Just drove my 2020 1500 miles to do Fins and Things and other Moab goodness, then 1500 miles back. On 35's so I can fit a spare. Somehow I still completely filled my bed and seats with overlanding gear, top to bottom. haha!
You’re killin me smalls. Congrats it’s a beast. While I off-road my rubicon jlu and like it there is a Raptor that is my preference hiding in my garage lol
Today me and my dad did Imogene pass in a stock 2015 Chevy Silverado 2500hd ltz z71. Only thing I really had done was fox 2.0 shocks and lt285/75r18 good year wrangler duratracs. It was rough but extremely fun. It is a little nerve racking but I highly recommend doing it. I only had 2 rubs the entire time, going down towards ouray one on the trailer hitch and one skid plate rub. But I highly recommend doing it.
Thanks for the great review - as noted, it is hard to find much on the PW, which is surprising. I'm cross shopping vs. the other likely suspects. Careful with that ground clearance figure that was quoted in the video. It is measured differently (exaggerated) on the Powerwagon and not comparable to other vehicles. IIRC, ground clearance is actually a bit less than other "similarly equipped" trucks when measured the same way.
Holy smokes your wife is a god tier off roader once she gets rolling in this beast. Now you can bounce between the two efficiencies between fuel Econ and trail dominance.
Just got 24 pw man it is big almost got stuck in in and out drive thru will never do that again😅 I have couple jeeps and was thinking about gladiators but everyone complain about taking our jku over 3hrs trip. Bc my other jeep are jl2dr and a tj. Now no one complain except how do we park this thing.
I had a diesel for a long time and it was a beast towing, but with the price of diesel and not being able to get the off-road features like sway bar disconnects and what not I decided to go gas.
"Load Range D" How do you feel about these tires vs E? The payload shouldn't require an E but does the truck weight? Also, where did you order and wait for your Smart Cap? Did you backorder? Thanks!
I don't think the 300lb-ish difference between the load ratings will make much difference for us. When towing our boat we're only adding about 600lbs of tongue weight so we will be in the safe zone. We ordered ours way in advance expecting it to take a while. We had it ordered before we officially ordered the truck.
They don’t make the power wagon in diesel because of how heavy the motor is compared to gas. If it was an option I would have. You can take a diesel and basically turn it into a power wagon, but I never considered that an option.
@@roamingwithjosh Nice. We also have the level 3 on our power wagon. Ours did nor come with the large vertical POWER WAGON logo on bed, only on the bottom of both dorms and on tailgate.
Your "actual" ground clearance is the distance from the bottom of the lowest Differential ( usually the rear) to the ground. Measure from the the bottom of that rear pumpkin to the ground. You will be way less than you think. I bet you are around 11"-12" with the 37" tires. We have several trucks on 37" tires. Its no where close unfortunately. Great video as always!
Did you lift yours? I’m assuming if you added carli you probably lifted it, but I’m curious if I could just add the carli suspension and keep the factory ride height, this thing is already a monster.
@@roamingwithjosh Carli doesn't raise the truck. Front came up 1 inch, but the rear lowered 3/4 inch. You can't tell any difference. But the suspension turned this truck into a far more capable vehicle. And it rides like a caddy.
Bluetti AC200 Max - bit.ly/3C2IogH that's what I use to run my fridge. The plug in the bed is on while the truck is, so i plug that power station into my truck and the fridge into the power station.
Looks really nice. Does it come with factory rock-sliders? Also, have you added rock-sliders to the Outback? I’ll have to look back on the videos again.
Nice video and congrats on pw! It's funny cause I have a 2500 tradesman and am thinking about downsizing to the Subaru. But I'm so use to the space and rambox I wonder if the sub is not gonna have the stealth ability to hide or add as much stuff. Not crazy about gas mileage for everyday I get maybe 17 HW unloaded. So I like idea of outback being rugged yet powerful and mpgs would double.
That's a delicate balance and really it comes down to what you truly use the vehicle for. We tow our boat and have a lot of extra gear we carry on long trips for various outdoor sports so having the power wagon will give us the space we need as well as the capability we want. We still love the OBW and intend to continue building it to see just how far we can take it.
Awesome truck and build, and thanks for the explanatory video! Question: Do the 37s rub with articulation and turning/locking the wheels one way or another?
No rub at full turn. Haven't been at full lock yet so i'm not sure, but I will be sure to make a video once we finally get this thing dirty. Thanks for the support!
How did the tire size affect your MPG? My 13" 2500 Silverado 6.0 saw about 20% loss after going to 35's. Currently thinking gears and lockers. Great job thus far!
The tires definitely impacted the MPG, but I never had the stock wheels on for a single mile so I'm not sure of the difference, but it's probably not great! Thanks for the comment!
Thanks for this review. I'm torn between trading my gladiator in for a power wagon, or just keeping my gladiator. Last year I had the option to get the PW, but decided on the Gladiator. Trying to talk myself out of it, and just keep the gladiator. lol
If you were to ask me which one 3 months ago I would say the gladiator, but with our family growing and our outdoor hobbies continuously increasing, there's no way we could make it all fit in the gladiator. THEN we drove the power wagon and it's like driving a Cadillac so I couldn't be happier with the choice. Hope that didn't make your decision harder!
@@roamingwithjosh No sir! Thank you for the reply. I'm more into rock crawling and harder trails, therefore, I'm stuck with the gladiator. lol. Keep up the good work!
Tough choice. I’ve had jeeps and now a 2019 PW. I test drove the gladiator rubicon last week thinking I may trade the PW and down size to the gladiator. I can tell you the PW is extremely comfortable inside and smooth on the road. It eats a ton of gas though. To me the gladiator’s steering felt loose and tended to wander but that was similar to my previous jeeps. Im just used to my PW now so I’ll be keeping it since I just feel safer in it (I’m older now). Good luck. Can’t go wrong either way.
@@CarlosVazquez-bk1zi I traded my 2019 ram Laramie in for the gladiator lol. At times I miss the space of the RAM, the comfortability, and the storage. But I do love the versatility, openness, and aftermarket world for the gladiator a lot more.
I've always wanted a power wagon. I sold my JL Wrangler with rock krawler and fox suspension for a 2021 F150 powerboost. I love the 24mpg and the fact it can fit my family of 6, but it's awfully boring. I'm highly considering getting another JL rubicon. I'd feel much better about the power wagon if it wasn't for 12-14mpg and the fact those front and rear middle seats are more of a joke.
@@ProficientEnough Same here, love the power wagon, but I’m gonna stick with my JT Rubicon till America reopens our oil pipelines. Love that V8 though. Cheers
You lost me. I thought we shared the same passion for Jeeps and overlanding. I had fun looking at what you were doing, why and how and found you excellent at it. Your wife also gave another dimension to your videos and it was fun. While I respect the other truck makers, I just don’t see the purpose for me watching you and see what you do with your Dodge Ram. Not interested. It is sad though cause I really enjoyed it. Thanks anyway and good look with your Ram. Maybe next year I’ll see you overlanding with a Hyundai Palissade! Wouldn’t be surprise lol…. I think that every time you change your rig, you start over with a new audience or maybe a part of it that would have been your core followers (like me). Looking at your competition on UA-cam, they evolve with the same type of rigs (Casey, Trail Recon, Venture4wd, etc.). Maybe this is what you want? Be different but you were with how you approached your subject, the quality of your videos, etc. I’m sure you would be at 25k or 50k just like them…. But going to Subaru, Dodge, Hyundai and who knows… it’s just not interesting to me. There are 6K that will have a different opinion than me but 44K and more who would agree with me.
To think that the reason I do UA-cam is to be the next big thing and try and capture an audience for profit is your first mistake. Although I respect your opinion, I do this to have fun and learn how to use a camera and create content and enjoy the experience. The Power Wagon literally fits directly into overlanding and maybe you just don't care because you want me to make content and buy cars and spend money that YOU want to see, but UA-cam is something I do as a hobby and if I want to rig out a Hyundai I will because it's what I want to do. This isn't my job and I'm not beholden to anyone. Luckily there's 5987239864 other channels with Jeep content that you can watch to fill your viewing time. Although we appreciate every like and comment and subscriber, this hobby is for us and our family not a base of people that have opinions on what we should be doing.

Bruh, how did you get your hands on an RSI SmartCap? Still waiting for mine....
dude it's been a work in progress. Luckily my buddy is a dealer and they shipped it right away. We got lucky on that one.
@@roamingwithjosh Apparently mine might be on a ship.
It’s a shame how they like to tout ground clearance for a point on the vehicle that’s not the lowest. Appreciate the comment!
I have a 2022 PW I just got as well. Will be building mine out over time. Will be interesting to see what you do to yours.
Right on! Congrats! We are going to document this as much as we can.
Can you please tell me the exact wheel specs and tire size you used? Thanks
the AEV Salta is the wheel, I don't have the exact specs on hand. The tires are BFG KM3's in a 37/12.5/17
My 18 with a Carli suspension and 37s is awesome
Did you lift yours? I’m assuming if you added carli you probably lifted it, but I’m curious if I could just add the carli suspension and keep the factory ride height, this thing is already a monster.
@@roamingwithjosh Carli doesn't raise the truck. Front came up 1 inch, but the rear lowered 3/4 inch. You can't tell any difference. But the suspension turned this truck into a far more capable vehicle. And it rides like a caddy.
@@roamingwithjosh forgot to add. The reason for the slight difference in the front is for the added articulation
Can you share the suspension setup you have currently? I'm interested in purchasing them. Just whatever you added to yours would be helpful. Thanks!
Where are you plugging the refrigerator in?
Bluetti AC200 Max - bit.ly/3C2IogH that's what I use to run my fridge. The plug in the bed is on while the truck is, so i plug that power station into my truck and the fridge into the power station.
What do you do for work man? Just wondering what type of job allows you to have time to go across country
We have been super fortunate and have several small businesses that allow us time to travel.
@@roamingwithjosh that’s cool. I’m happy for you. Working my way slowly but surely to that point
Great vid, Love my diamond black 2019 PW! But the bed should be 6ft 4.8in rather than 6ft 3in
Thanks for the comment!
Looks really nice. Does it come with factory rock-sliders? Also, have you added rock-sliders to the Outback? I’ll have to look back on the videos again.
It had sliders on it and we did add them to the OBW.
Mine came with sliders.
Do you know what the stock wheel and tire weight is?
I do not.
Once you go Subaru Outback way, you want a Wagon in every vehicle. It was only natural that you traded your Gladiator for this.
😂😂 #wagonlife
From playing with women cars to true manly rig…you will be the coolest dad with that truck..good job to ya man and congrats, PW are not cheap either..
LOL thank you!
@@roamingwithjosh I am getting 14 stock on highway trips, what is your MPG showing. Also, did you recalibrate?
@@TheUnorthodoxx We have not recalibrated yet, what did you use to do so? We are showing 12.5MPG currently.
@@roamingwithjosh Not bad for not recalibrating! I am still stock, once the AEV Snap comes in I will move to 35s.
is that their recalibration tool?
I bet this has Thuren or Carli suspension on it sooner than later :)
lololol I'm definitely thinking about it!
OK, now we're talking 🤭
YEP!
Ground clearance is not that high if you count the pumpkin.
Very true
There’s no level kit on the truck to fit the 37’s?? Wow
You don't need a level kit to fit the 37's
@@roamingwithjosh niceeee. Those are 37x12.5 or x13.5?
Did you sell your gladiator rsi?
I did. Posted it on Instagram a few weeks ago.
@@roamingwithjosh dang.. I saw it on Facebook. Tried to message you about it. I was ready to buy it.
I apologize! I don’t ever even open the Facebook app, I stick to Instagram.
Please tell me you did not sell the Subaru!
Nope!!!
Please tell me you did sell the Stupidru.
Thank you!
I would love a smart cap for my Ram 1500 but for $6500 no thanks lol.
That’s crazy. They were not nearly that expensive before. I would check around for a better price because that doesn’t seem right.
@@roamingwithjosh 6500 Canadian dollars lol.
"We picked this car up" 🤔
Sorry but super sad video for me. I totally get it that the Gladiator didn't fit your needs but I still hate to see it gone.
Us too, dude!
Love mine, mpg sucks.
lolol preach
Just in time for $10 gas. Am I right. High Fives Lets Go Brandon
Cheers
lolol yea it's not great on the gas, but it feels good hearing that Hemi!
@@roamingwithjosh I concur. No replacement for displacement. V8 rules in the age of turbos.
Ok Karen
Must be nice changing cars like underwear 🙄
Used car market is too much in my favor to not take advantage and break even after 15,000 miles and a bunch of mods. Thanks for the comment!
You lost me at Subaru.
That's ok.
