David, yes of course Dodge and Burn is another option but in this case I wanted to further enhance our understanding of how blend modes can be made to work differently.

I think the second image pixel layer was left in ‘normal’ blend mode rather than ‘overlay’?
Well spotted, it certianly was a mistake on my part. I'll acknowledge it in my next video.

Hi Sadique why would you not use the dodge and burn brush to get this effect ?
it boils down to there is always more than one method, this was the old adage in Ps.
