I am a Canadian, retired, and now 66-years old. I was severely abused and repeatedly terrorized during many years of my childhood (roughly between the ages 6 to 13 yo). I am diagnosed with Complex PTSD and continue to suffer this mental damage to this day even after many years of high quality therapy. For many of us, alcohol and/or substance abuse is simply a natural avenue of escape to delve into. I've been there and smoked over 40 cigarettes a year for many years and knew all staff at every pub within 100 kilometers from home.
