Hi Alyssa!😊. Why I prefer the Y over the 3(& I have owned both) Hatchback vs trunk, more rear room in Y, easier egress/ingress in Y, way easier to get out of Y, 3 is way to low next to a tractor trailer!
Couldn’t decide, so got one of each! But 2025 MY Juniper with a 4C LFP battery, wireless charging, V2H, new paint colors, and other upgrades should be the bomb! Already saving for that one!
Thanks Alyssa, great video! We have a Model Y long range and it really works well for us. We are both seniors so the ease of access is important. Also love its range and ease of charging. Have a great day! … George
Thanks for this video. I’d like to share my experiences. We got a Model 3 Dual Motor Long Range (with 19” wheels) in December of 2018. We just got a Model Y Long Range (with 20” wheels). Both are from the Fremont factory. Our 3 kids (ages 12, 16, 19) report that they are more comfortable in the Y. If you look at the cargo space specs, with the seats down the Y has literally 4x the space as the 3. With the limited trunk opening in the 3, you’ll definitely be able to fit larger items in the Y. The comfort suspension feels a lot more comfortable than our 3. (I don’t know if you can get the 3 with comfort suspension?). I know both models have the double paned driver and passenger windows. Our Y is definitely quieter than our 3. We adore both Teslas. The 3 has been (and continues to be) our primary car for around town errands and kid pick ups and drop offs. We use the Y for longer trips or if we need the cargo space. Personally I prefer driving the Y in general because I can see around or over cars better. While in the 3, surrounded by so many trucks and SUVs, I don’t get to see as far. Yes, the Y is easier to get in and out of. Hope this helps others when deciding between both models
@@Superman-xr1oh To each his own. If I didn’t have to move people on a regular basis or drive long distances regularly, the 3 would be great. You do you. Definitely don’t buy something you don’t feel is aesthetically pleasing. My family just road tripped to San Diego from the Bay Area. The ride was definitely better in our Y versus our 3 (More space, quieter, more comfortable). If I wanted something that looks great that I handles great on a track, I’d buy back my motorbike.
I have the Model 3, I love the car BUT its really low to the ground and when you're tall, it can be a pain sometimes. I like the Model Y muuuch better because of how much higher it sits. If I could go back and pick again, I would take the Y over the 3. But that's a little complaint, I love my Model 3 too much to go through the pain of buying another car.
If these two cars drove nearly the same the better choice would be the Model Y. But they don't so it's not. The difference in drive is surprising, given how similar they are mechanically. The Model 3 is much better at steering, braking, going over bumps, and not sounding "loose".
I test drove both and also came away with a preference for the 3. Currently, with the $7500 tax credit, it is $8600 less expensive than the standard Y. But I have two large dogs....
Thanks, Alyssa for the head to head comparison. When I bought my Tesla, I was wracking my brains over which model to get. I liked the looks and range of the 3 better, but got the Y in the end for the more useful cargo space and I’m glad I did. I went on a road trip with 3 friends and fit all our luggage, as well as extra gear and shopping without a problem. It will also come in handy when I move my daughter to college in the fall. I’m super happy with the car and in my experience the supercharger network has been fantastic.
@@Superman-xr1oh I got the LR. There was no base option at the time (I don’t think I would have gotten it anyway) and for me the performance is not necessary. The LR is already fast enough, the range is longer, and it’s less expensive.
Good video. I have recently driven both cars. I did like the seats better in the 3, but model Y was conformable as well. I am an old guy so I like the Y for entering and exiting the vehicle. For me the Y doesn't have good back window vision. The 3 is much better. It is a though decision. I haven't decided yet.
Wonderful job in this comparison, Alyssa! Keep up the great work, and we look forward to seeing you (and Blue and Ellie) in front of the camera again soon!
I drove a model 3 on the 18’s and the 19’s. Both are really smooth and quiet. I drove a Model Y performance on 21’s and yeah i know it’s partially because it was a performance but it was Much less comfortable and a bit louder. I felt like it wasn’t all bc of the wheels tho. Model Y is so stiff but it looks and feels nicer to drive than the model 3 because I prefer compact Suv’s ride height.
Great comparison. Have road tripped with my family of 5 in model 3 so it’s doable but not comfortable for the middle passenger. 3 is more suitable for 1-4 people. Now that kids are all bigger than I am, we’ve ordered a Y for hubs. Y is slightly wider and there is a little bit more legroom for 2nd row passengers. Hubs also is taller so getting in/out of Y is easier for him.
Just ordered a M3 RWD that we are picking up in two days. Still gets the $7,500 tax credit till next week which makes it about $35,000. My wife likes the size better. Thought about a model Y a while ago but got an Ioniq 5 AWD Limited that I just love.
If you’re taking the trouble to add front casting, makes sense to deploy whatever design “backlogs” that have been pending. Highland will certainly invigorate M3 sales, especially once gigacast savings are (eventually) priced in. “Market timing” couldn’t have been planned any more precisely! Alas, I already own ‘22 M3P & MYLR w/ 2 CT & an Aptera reservations. 😂
Great review Alyssa. It is nice to get a review that focusses on the practical aspects of owning and driving an EV rather than just covering the nerdy stuff like battery capacity and charging profile etc..
Nice video Alyssa. It’s helpful to see them side by side. The 🐣 in model Y would be handy, but rear visibility may be hindered from it, if comparing ti model 3. Thanks a lot!
Awesome video. I went with the Model Y. I'm 6 fee 2 inches tall. It's just the wife and me and as we get a little older we find that this crossover was what works best for us. The extra storage space over the Model 3 is another thing that sold me. The Tesla network is number one hands down. We live in Virginia and I took a small road trip up to Atlantic city and from my house to there it was predicting I would make it without stopping. I did anyway for a snack and bathroom break and charged up. It predicted one stop on the way home which was good because that was an opportunity for a break and to stop and eat lunch. Either of these models is a good choice. I personally went with the Long Range because with the instant torque I didn't feel the need for the Performance version. So I opted for more range than accelerating a few seconds faster. Oh man...If you've never heard the sound system in a Tesla you simply must. Keep in mind you won't get the full sound system in the standard/LFP version but it sounds ok....but the LR, Performance and 4680 version all have the full sound system.
Awesome review Alyssa! We have both cars it's hard to decide which one we like more. Our 3 performance is plenty of fun until we load our doggies, and then it's model Y for the longer road trips. Can't go wrong with either model. Both great!
If Tesla had done something more like a Mazda 3 Wagon, rather than sedan with the Model 3, I would be buying one. It is going to take me more time to save up the thousands of dollars more to go Y, but the utility of the Y is superior to the 3. If they had at least done a hatch design over the sedan package, I might have considered the 3. The sport wagon design would have been amazing, but it is what it is. Just hope Tesla brings a under $45,000 option Model Y to market someday in North America.
TFTC Yeah not much difference overall but the front seat height is a helluva lot easier for my fat and tall aßß to get in and out of. Plus I haul my pops around a bit and his walker didn't fit in the 3 very easily whereas the y could take it and my mom in the backseat and it's easier for both of them to get in and out due to the seat height/angle difference.
Thanks for this!!! I'm facing this delima at the moment. Sigh! I live in Toronto, Canada, and the price difference between the Model 3 RWD vs. the Model Y LR is a 15k CAD difference. Although I prefer the Model Y LR and have test driven both of them , I just can't justify the $15K difference between the two and thus, I'm leaning towards the Model 3 RWD!
I’ve actually never driven a Model Y, I’ll have to take one for a spin. But I do love the Model 3. It’s just perfect for my wife and I and that’s who is in it 99.9% of the time. More would just be… more.
Yeah same here I've been trying to rent a model Y for a month last time the model Y was being worked on time before that someone snagged it an hour before I booked my Tesla rental (I only have enough $$ to rent one or two days a month) there's only one model Y to rent at the hertz by me and 5/6 model 3
I had no problem deciding when I looked at them setting next to each other. As a single guy who cares about how my car looks....the model Y looks like a bump on a long or a wart and I could never own one.
Model 3 is sportier and handles better, but it's smaller and pretty low to the ground. The Model Y is bigger and is higher off the ground, but doesnt handle as well and isn’t as sporty, it's also pretty ugly from the outside. Too bad you can't get the best of both.
Good to see you. We miss you. We have two model 3s. Probably would have bought a model y but when we bought the second model 3 the prices were really high and we couldn’t afford the Y. If Tesla didn’t add the side camera blinker camera we wouldn’t have bought another Tesla. The blind spot was horrible before they added it. Love how any problem they have can be fixed with an update 😊
Actually the decision is not hard at all. I drive a model 3 and I can tell you you don't want a model 3. Don't get me wrong. I love the way it drives. But the trunk opening is just bad. There is no way to sugarcoat it. You do not want this trunk opening. No matter he you are single or have a big family. The fun to drive however can only be replicated by the 4680 model Y standard range. That's the one to buy.
Model 3 would’ve been perfect if they gave it a hatch like the Model S. Love mine anyway. Test drove a Model Y while waiting for our 3, didn’t like it at all.
It's nice to see Alyssa. I hope you're doing great.
I enjoy being lower to the ground, feels more connected to the road, and more sporty. Some people hate it though.
I watch MUCH EV content, but I don’t think I’ve seen anyone do this comparison. Thank you Alyssa. ❤️
because it makes no sense. they are not the same class.
@@laloajuria4678 Sure it does, some people just want a nice EV, and comparing the two cheapest Tesla's makes perfect sense for some.
