Well done! I also did ritdye on my old ACU camo gears. Much much better than the original crappy ACU camo.

Definitely an improvement for that obsolete camo..in the end dying the ruck with dharma acid dyes first actually helped yield a darker shade of green when dying it with Apple Green Rit Dye, so i was able to salvage this project from my previous failure. As always thank you for interacting with the channel, and glad you enjoyed :)

Can you list your formula and instructions? It's not completely clear. But I think I have it pieced together from a couple different videos and comments:
First dye job was Dharma dye in color Lechan?
Second dye job was RIT dye Apple Green.
Each time you dyed you used rock salt and vinegar. About how much?
Then baking soda to remove vinegar smell.
How long and at what temp did you use each dye?
This is the best dye job on ACU I have ever seen. And I have researched this for a number of years. Your formula and instructions could help many of us. I've never seen anyone get nearly this close to anything acceptable. This is damn near ranger green. But still with some gradients left from the ACU pattern.
    Excellent job!
    Thank you so much.

Thank you so much for your comment! :)
Ok so initially I used dharma acid dye Lichen, a few tablespoons worth of the powder, probably 1/4th of the jar, but that only darkened the UCP to a darker grey. So I fell back on the Rit dye Apple Green, used 1.5 bottles of that. In both dye jobs I used 2-3 generous handfuls of rock salt, and about 1/3 to half of a bottle of white wine vinegar.
If you check out the video where i showcase the problematic quick release buckles it shows the color better of the 2 different packs (or in the case of the video, the 2 suspension systems): 1 done with Dharma acid dyes and then Rit Apple Green, versus just Rit Apple Green (the difference/shade of color shows better indoors without the sun hitting it). I left them to soak for...anywhere from 45 mins to 2 hours (unfortunately I don't remember exactly, but the key is to keep stirring and checking on it). However, if I were you I wouldn't bother with Dharma acid dyes cause they were a complete fail, the dye turned the inside of the rucks really grey and the outside almost as dark, but not a shade of green to it. In both cases the water was brought to a rolling boil and then just let the rucks be in there and kept checking it. Ideally it should look a lot darker and greener when you pull it out. I simply rinsed it afterwards, didn't use any baking soda or anything, the vinegar smell dissipated after a while on it's own.
Hope that helps, and thanks again for the comment!

@@thatpackguy About how much water did you use? I'm guessing just enough to dunk the pack?

@@xx67 yes just enough to submerge the pack and all its components

4:05m onwards - I really need to make a quick video later on the versions of MOLLE II large rucks that I have and the differences (stormflap, zipper, tensioners) I noticed.
I hope I get to it tonight.
    Regards, oz.

That looks good, can I ask what mixture of vinegar and salt you used to get the ranger green color?

    • @thatpackguy

Thank you! I just eye-balled it to be honest: 1-2 handfuls of rock salt and over half a bottle of white wine vinegar

Awesome man, thanks. I've been wanting to dye mine and that color looks like exactly what I'm wanting.

@@codyrhoades2802 keep an eye out on the time though cause the longer you dye it the greener it will be, but if you dye it for too long then it'll lose the contrast from the ucp camo

Dharma acid has several greens - did you use more than one Dharma dye, and if so, which one(s). thanks
