  • Ruger Mini 14 Model 5895; side folding stock 5.56 18.5" TB
    Made on 05/09/2024
Growing up in the 70's and 80's the Ruger Mini 14 was a popular rifle. The TV show The A-Team made it even more popular, however if you were not Military or Law Enforcement, the Mini 14 was neutered in the 80's. In 1994 with the passing of the "assault weapon ban" further restrictions were passed, and limited options.
While current Federal laws and free states allow law abiding citizens to own firearms, the Nazi States still infringe upon the 2nd Amendment rights of law abiding citizens.
The current A-Team Mini 14 has features like a bird cage flash hider, a bayonet mount, a pistol grip, a folding stock, and 30-40 round magazines. It is rated for 5.56 NATO with a 1-9 barrel right hand twist (good for 62gr and lower bullets). The Samson stock is available, but can be model specific based on generation of rifle. Weight is 7.5lbs
The Ruger Mini-14 in neutered form is legal in all 50 states. But some models are just too scary to the far left radicals.

Ramline metal mags for the Mini-14 are well made, and I've had good luck with the Tapco polymer mags with metal reinforced rear tab. The problem with the cheaper mags for Mini-14s is the rear tab wearing down and eventually failing to adequately engage the mag release.

They are neat, and one can make either color work well, more so with the Hannibal rail in black or silver. Between the stock, handguard, and magazines you can make different colors pop. I like that it was done with wood over polymer. But… an aluminum folding stock chassis could be interesting.

I hope so. A buddy bought his first. Hope to get out to the range and do some shooting with him. The M4/AR is about 2.5 to 4 MOA accurate rifle (4 MOA being “milspec”), so I want to see if the newer Ruger Mini 14 barrel is 2.5 MOA or less (or more accurate than most AR’s).

I was looking at the Hannibal rail. Still trying to decide if I want an optic. Definitely wouldn’t do a scope (1” rings that came with it are pointless, 30mm would be better). Leaning to just the iron sights or an optic.

If you add a Hannibal rail, be mindful once it's attached of clearance with your bolt carrier. I had to remove some material from the rail because the carrier was rubbing against the underside of the rail when the bolt was in battery, this friction was delaying the unlocking of the action.

Not only can you not get one of these here in NY, you have to get a permit to purchase a semi auto and have 4 references sign off on it..then you can do your normal BATFE 4473. This state sucks! I used to live in VA and had TItle 2's...I didn't even need references for buying machineguns...just the police chief sign off on the form 4. Seems like NY is overstepping their right and restricting people, but they win their war against guns every time! Enjoy your rifle!

That sucks. Is the regular Mini 14 approved up there? I almost got arrested flying out of NY, I declared my pistol to baggage check, and they called the police. Police asked if I had a pistol in my bag, and said yes it’s in accordance with the TSA and American Airlines. They explained it was NY and did not matter. Told them it was a Glock, but I was a police officer. They told me regardless it was illegal to have a magazine over 10 rounds and more than 7 rounds of ammo loaded. I opened the box and they were amazed I had Glock 42 with only 7 round per magazine. I asked if I needed to call my Chief, and they let me go. I did check on their laws prior.

I have a number of AR/M4’s, and I owned a few Mini 14’s before. A buddy got this one, and then I had to get it. The specs on it are neat. With the new accurized barrel it’s supposed to shoot 2 MOA. The M4 is rated at 5 MOA, with a good one maybe shooting 2.5 MOA. I am debating if I should add an optic or scope. But might just leave it as it, or get a cheap scope to play with at the range. I like the M1 Grand/M-14 style trigger and bolt in a pistol system. Kind of AK’ish. Down side with the Mini 14 is not as many aftermarket parts, but this one is well equipped.

    • @garypulliam3421
      @garypulliam3421 24 дні тому

@stever4651 It's a terrible review, but yes, you can remove the lug nut. You can either grind it off in-situ ... OR ... you can remove the entire sight/lug unit and order JUST a sight from Ruger and put it on in its place. To do so, remove the flash hider, tap out the sight/lug roll pin, slide it off, slide the new sight only on, tap the roll pin back in, replace the flash hider. I don't suggest using a wrench to twist off the flash hider. Use a strong slat of wood or plastic, run it through the flash hider, then run a larger slat of wood or plastic through the action (removed from the stock), sit down and hold the larger slat with your legs/knees, and turn the flash hider with your hands/arms. Using metal will inevitably put a scratch on the barrel or action. Another option is to just buy the tactical version with folding stock. It looks just like this one but without a bayonet lug, AND it has a shorter barrel, which is very cool. The tactical version has a 16-inch barrel where the A-Team version has an 18-inch barrel. I have the tactical version in a folding stock, and I always get asked at gun shows if it's an AC-556.

The front sight/bayonet lug is held in by a roll pin. It would need to be punched out, flash hider removed, then it could be tapped forward and taken off. Then you would need a new sight put on. Or you could cut it off with. A dremel tool. If it’s a state law thing, you can buy just the stock from Samson, and put it on a state legal one (if only the bayonet is prohibited).

Ruger has made some of the best .22 pistol and rifles with the Mk and 10/22. Their revolvers are some of the most durable and reliable. Their semi auto center fires suck. Their bolt guns are ok. The Mini 14 was more reliable than the AR-15 until the mid 1990’s when the M4 was redesigned with better feed ramps, and specs along with improved magazines.
I only own a LCP .380 Coyote special for semi autos, as Gov Perry shot a coyote out on a run with one (labeled for Texans only). Have a few Mk and 10/22 that were great. Sold my past Mini 14’s due to lack of features and accuracy, but the new barrels show better than Milspec M4 accuracy.
S&W, Ruger, and H&K did some shady stuff for the civilian firearms sales, but still make good stuff in my opinion.
