Unboxing the A-Team Rifle Mini 14
Ruger Mini 14 Model 5895; side folding stock 5.56 18.5" TB
Made on 05/09/2024
Growing up in the 70's and 80's the Ruger Mini 14 was a popular rifle. The TV show The A-Team made it even more popular, however if you were not Military or Law Enforcement, the Mini 14 was neutered in the 80's. In 1994 with the passing of the "assault weapon ban" further restrictions were passed, and limited options.
While current Federal laws and free states allow law abiding citizens to own firearms, the Nazi States still infringe upon the 2nd Amendment rights of law abiding citizens.
The current A-Team Mini 14 has features like a bird cage flash hider, a bayonet mount, a pistol grip, a folding stock, and 30-40 round magazines. It is rated for 5.56 NATO with a 1-9 barrel right hand twist (good for 62gr and lower bullets). The Samson stock is available, but can be model specific based on generation of rifle. Weight is 7.5lbs
The Ruger Mini-14 in neutered form is legal in all 50 states. But some models are just too scary to the far left radicals.

Finally bought an MKE, I have heard people say its made on officially licensed tooling in Turkey and its a good copy. It is one of the cheaper options, but I am not impressed by the fit/finish on mine. It seems like a cheap surplus pistol, vs a new firearm. Zenith used to import them, now its Century Arms. Zenith now makes their own in the USA. I feel the Zenith is a better buy.

      Awesome. The detachable stock I think is so sweet. It’s a heavy “pistol caliber carbine” but it’s so American, you have to love it. A holster could be neat. I have been playing with a DeSantis SMG rig (copy of the old Eagle MP5K/Uzi shoulder holster).

    Well, you must’ve got one of the earlier models. They didn’t have quite the quality control fit and finish as some of the rest of them. I got my AP 5 AM about a year ago and the finish is immaculate. The worlds are perfect and I’ve ever shot.

      MKE has been making them for decades. This is a new Century Arms import (ordered it from Atlantic Firearms I believe). I had higher hopes as they fill foreign government contracts and use “hk tooling” but clearly some workers and quality control people were slacking in my opinion. I would not have let it out of the factory like that. Still have to shoot it against my Zenith.

  • @Mountain_Man
    @Mountain_Man 10 днів тому

    Good comparison. Interesting fact about the new HK SP5 and SP5K is the upper receivers are not made directly by an H&K facility they are made by a 3rd party company. Zenith purchased the presses, dies, and tooling from H&K and had H&K engineers come out and set everything up for Zenith.

    • @CAVCOP
      @CAVCOP 10 днів тому

      I was disappointed with an MKE I bought. Years ago they had issues, and Zenith was their importer. I bought my Zenith over an MKE, then bought a Century MKE. I was not impressed with the sample I got. I did a video on it. I had higher hopes for MKE. HK is still the gold standard. But I was impressed with the USA Zenith, other than the magwell, which others have posted issues with too. Hopefully Zenith has figured it out by now.

    I have 3 of these. Given the quality of the steel & thickness of the blade, when sharpened up, they are a pretty good general purpose camping knife. The thick back is great for battoning wood. It’s works well processing deer as well.

      @CAVCOP 10 днів тому

      The two I have were dull, but they do sharpen well. In my opinion it’s one of the better bayonets out there. I spent a number of years in the 7th Infantry Division at Ford Ord CA as a light fighter in the Bayonet Division, and learned the M9 bayonet sucks at about everything 🤣 The CETME and AK47 bayonets are functional. The CETME is probably best for jungle and woodland environments.

He had a few pics of the 3D printed magazines with no springs/followers. He said he would send me some to test. I told him if they worked I would help promote them for sale, just because no one makes the magazines, and the Mountain Eagle and Exactor are neat/fun pistols. If I get one I will test it and try to get the word out, as no one has magazines. I do have three, but they could break when I use them due to age. They held up well, as I knew to be careful loading them.

      @@jarethgar what type of mount is it? Is it the two clamp picatinny rail? Or a single clamp that’s flat with holes on top? I am not a fan of using a two clamp longer rail on a P/K that is shorter (good on the longer MP5 types). I am on FB, X, and Truth Social (don’t go to them often though). If you post a picture I could tell you more. Just be careful with the longer picatinny rails as some are not rounded on the front and could scrape your knuckles doing reloads/locking the charging handle back.

    Interesting, Thanks for your time making the video. I have both the HK SP5 and SP5K along with a AP5. I'm happy with all of them zero issues after 1000's of rounds fired. I only use real HK mags in all of them and make sure the ammo has a more round nose profile, not to flat nose. Gold Dot Hp's function 100% in all three also. Funny thing gun to gun my AP5 has better welds than the HK SP5K. The HK SP5 is the best finished of all three. Love all three of mine won't sell any and am considering buying a AP5 P or M model soon.

      I did have higher hopes for my MKE. Figured they have been making them for years. My Zenith has the best fit/finish in my opinion vs my HK PDW. As a Police Officer we only used Gold Dots for our MP5’s. Overall we used Gold Dots for duty loads, but shot cheaper ammo for training with our Glocks and AR’s, but the MP5’s were Gold Dot 124gr only. They worked great, for function and stopping power in real world.

    One advantage the P220 has over the 1911 is that right out of the box you have a pistol that is perfectly matched for the SIG factory mags. Many 1911's will work great too but sometimes finding compatible mags is necessary for 100% reliability. There are just too many makers of both the pistol itself and various magazines to guarantee flawless function.

    • @CAVCOP
      @CAVCOP Місяць тому

      Absolutely. The 1911 used to require set magazine brands, with set ammo to function properly. The Sig could fire steel cases, hollow points, etc as many European pistols were designed for. Groups like the Navy SEALS and Law Enforcement went from revolvers to the Sigs, as there was no safety and it had a double action pull for under stress, or you could manually cock it. The 1911 required a lot more training and tuning. Though today 1911’s are better made as barrel designs and magazines/springs have improved. I do like the metal frame P series.

Their bolt guns are ok. The Mini 14 was more reliable than the AR-15 until the mid 1990’s when the M4 was redesigned with better feed ramps, and specs along with improved magazines. I only own a LCP .380 Coyote special for semi autos, as Gov Perry shot a coyote out on a run with one (labeled for Texans only). Have a few Mk and 10/22 that were great. Sold my past Mini 14’s due to lack of features and accuracy, but the new barrels show better than Milspec M4 accuracy. S&W, Ruger, and H&K did some shady stuff for the civilian firearms sales, but still make good stuff in my opinion.

    I'll stick with MKE, now imported by Century Arms

      I was not impressed at all with the MKE I got. I had high hopes as MKE has been supplying licensed clones forever. I did a video on it, but the fit and finish was crappy. Outside and inside. Not impressed at all by MKE so far. And my H&K and Zenith grips don’t have the finger grooves and thumb rest.

    Man, I bet you’re gonna have a lot of fun with that mini 14

      I hope so. A buddy bought his first. Hope to get out to the range and do some shooting with him. The M4/AR is about 2.5 to 4 MOA accurate rifle (4 MOA being “milspec”), so I want to see if the newer Ruger Mini 14 barrel is 2.5 MOA or less (or more accurate than most AR’s).

      No, I will definitely be keeping this one. At one time I had only two safes, and limited firearms/money. Now I have a few safes, and gun room, with decent income flow. I have well over 100 firearms. I learned to hold on to set things vs common things.

      I really do think it’s a neat option from Ruger. It’s like M1A, M14, AK-47 and AR-15 combined. The folding stock, with wood is classic. And with the accurized Mini 14 barrel it should be on par with the M4’s

      No, it's not. This video is full of errors and false assumptions.

    These are cheap soft plastic trash! The screws on the one that I tried to install on a Remington 700 stripped out with very little pressure. Don't bother installing the rubber inserts on the inside where the bolt knob sits.....it does NOT work. Absolute garbage for the price!

      I do like the KRG knob better. I did have to do a little adjusting and fitting. Was yours for a Remington 700? I know they make a few.

    I am no authority but your 84 info is only for the square model trigger guard, my 84bb is different

    • @CAVCOP
      @CAVCOP Місяць тому

      Yes the B and BB 84’s are older versions with a slightly different safety setup and have the round trigger guard like the 86 with tip up barrel.

    How does the 84bb differ from 84f and 84 fs?

    • @CAVCOP
      @CAVCOP Місяць тому

      Basically the 84 series had upgrades/changes. B, BB, F, FS. The FS was the more modern version for the trigger guard like the Beretta 92 for use with gloves and front serrations with improved Decocker. The BB has a more rounded trigger guard like the 86 tip barrel and is older like the B. I think the 84FS is best, or the BB if you like the rounded trigger guard.

      Sadly no, I lost my voice and have been hoping it would come back to do some more videos (been 4-5 months still seeing doctors). I might just do a video shooting them, with limited/no audio.

    The way MP5's are made you need to break it in. The jamming is most likely the metal grooves and welds are tight from manufacturing, that is normal.

    • @CAVCOP
      @CAVCOP 2 місяці тому

      Yes, many older design firearms need a breaking in of a few hundred rounds. In this case it was a loose/out of spec magazine well. It’s common with the clones. I had hopped Zenith and even MKE Turkey would have a fix to the issue, but it seems many still ship, out of spec.
