What's also pretty amazing was that Elizabeth was performing here with a broken bow that she had patched back together. She is one of From the Top's scholarship recipients and was able to buy a new bow with her award.

Elizabeth Aoki, 12 years old now. Began playing at the age of 5 due to persistent begging towards her mom.
Taught herself to read sheet music, accepted at Julliard School of Music at age 10 and earned a diploma
*In video uses a 3/4 European Violin that is actually 2 inches smaller than a usual Violin.

Unbelievable intonation, bow transition, string crossing, melody............WOW, you find this rarely only in great ones, but at 9 years old, and her face expression is so adorable and serene. Can you please post more of her recordings! The pianist couldn't be any better, great.

  • @kfcohea

She memorized a 4:30 minute piece of music. Do you know how difficult that is!? Children can have an ability to be in the moment that adults have to work for. I have taught kids with a God given talent where spending hours on a piece is no trouble at all. Not many though. They lose themselves in it. That's the way I feel when I'm playing. Time stops. She is wonderful and if she can keep her head, if her parents can keep their heads, she will be a great performer I think.

Her pitch is excellent, as is her tone, I'm looking forward to when she hits her teenage years. As a personal thing, I just like defining music and art in general as a form of emotional expression. And yes, her technique does seem to blow most of us out of the water. It's amazing.

      Panda,
Would you please not use the word "song" for whatever piece of classical music you've ever heard.
That's what modern-day ignorant Americans do all the time these days. They've sacrificed their brain cells listening to and worshiping "American Idol" singers and so they have zero interest in classical music or anything else spanning around the rest of the world, past or present.
None of them wants to learn music composition words like "concerto" or "symphony" or "etude" or "caprice" or "rondo" or anything else.
To them, everything they hear is a "song."
They can't name one composer, except maybe Beethoven--but, by golly, they make it their life's ambition to memorize the entire biography of Justin Bieber--and they "think" he's the greatest person in the world.
      Poor uncultured Americans!

    • @alexeicogan4733
      @alexeicogan4733 8 років тому +1

Although I'm descended from a composer and a pianist (and studied at the conservatory of music when I was a kid) isn't the issue here.
What I said to you had nothing to do with you meeting MY standards.
I spoke out on behalf of the music, the culture itself.
I don't want you learning anything to please ME. I spoke out with the bigger picture in mind.
For example: my musical loves span five centuries and several cultures, from Baroque to modern.
When people who are new to the world of classical music do things like whipping out their cell phones and texting their friends in the middle of a concert at the symphony hall, I wish they'd be escorted out by the ushers. They know nothing about class.
PS: Once, when our local classical radio station had a request hour, one listener requested, and I quote, "the Bugs Bunny song!" ...(What he/she ACTUALLY meant was the "Barber of Seville Overture.")
PPS: If people are truly interested in learning about classical music, they'd do themselves a wonderful favor by reading up on composers and general life in the time period in question. Otherwise, if they'd insist on considering a "classic" to be what was on the pop chart months ago, as some folks do, they'll forever be neglecting their inner-growth.
