Another good one Jimmy, excellent video footage and images of the shore birds. Have a great week and I look forward to next Sunday. Thanks for sharing.
Many thanks Keith! You're recent Barred Owl images are OUTSTANDING by the way! Such beautiful birds and some of the best Barred Owl photos I've seen! Keep up the great work 👍
Love your videos! The blind is awesome! I’ve seen pics of photogs armpit deep in a pond for a shot… the floating blind seems more comfortable and easier to maintain for a few hours. Nice work! Thank you. And thanks for sharing the beautiful shots!
Thanks so much, I really enjoy making and sharing them here! The floating blind really is the way to go, if you don't mind having your camera gear floating inches above the water 😬
Hi Jimmy. I want to apolgize if this is a duplicate comment. The one I left before doesn't appear to have stuck. I don't know a lot about birds, but some of the ibises in the group at 5 minutes and in the closeup at 14 minutes definitely look like Glossy Ibis. I don't know amything about white-face like you mentioned, but the brown with the iridescent wings look like Glossy Ibis. I don't know if you have them in your area or not, but I wanted to mention the possibilty. I've been trying to get good photos of the Glossy Ibis without success the last couple years. Anyway, another great video. Cheers from Maine. :) Paula
Thanks for the info, Paula. I do have glossy Ibis in my area, but I still have difficulty telling some of these birds apart. I wouldn't be surprised if there were both glossy and white faced Ibis in that flock, as it was so large. This is a great spot to get photos of these guys, next time you're out west I'll let you borrow the blind 😁
The egrets were fun to watch! Cool to see their heads follow the fish and how fast they move. Never knew that lake was a good place to watch so many different birds-glad people left your floating hide alone! Thanks for taking us along
I was amazed at how fast they were, especially since the fish were so tiny. It's a pretty busy lake, even so, I'm surprised at how much wildlife there is around it. Thanks so much for watching!
Hi Jimmy, I stumbled across your video and gosh was I impressed by the standard of your photography. The video itself is very well presented. Looking forward to seeing you making your floating hide mark 2. Well done, top marks.
Thanks so much, I hope you got some useful information out of it! I'm hoping to get the next one built once some of the material costs drop a bit. I'm hoping it'll be sooner than later 🤞 Thanks so much for the feedback and support, have a great week!
Another quality video with some superb images. I particularly liked the grebe images, the ibis at 22.10 the avocet at 19.49 and that final avocet image. The light on that one is gorgeous. Looks like great little blind although for me with my lack of suppleness I would opt for a u shaped base to make it easier getting into. All the best.
Thanks so much, Robert! I had so much fun with those Avocets, those were probably my personal favorite images from the day as well! I agree with you about the u shaped blind. That's one change I'll be making on the next one because it can sometimes prove really difficult to get in and out without making a complete ruckus!
These videos with the floating blind are both superb, but the species covered here look especially good! Great work!! It gives so much interesting ideas and motivates to go out more. Also, I really admire the way You strive to never disturb the birds - that is what every photographer should do! Sometimes it isn't as easy, though - it sometimes feels the birds hear the camera shutter, and sometimes the slightest movement drives them away, and other times I feel they can see that in the UV (which many birds see and mammals don't) my camouflage is different enough from surrounding nature that it spooks them away. But a floating blind seems to work incredibly well here.
Thanks so much for the kind words and feedback! I always try to put the animals first when I'm out with them, so I'm glad that comes across in the videos. It can be tricky to stay hidden from wildlife, but it can be a very fun challenge that brings us closer to nature 😊 The floating blind works wonders, you should give it a try! Good luck out there!
With the Ibis I think with the white face they have a red iris I may have this confused with the glossy as it has been ages since I have seen them or even lived within eithers range.
That's great info, thanks so much! I believe we get both in this area, I'd have to double check. I know we get the White faced Ibis for sure. I'm so bad at identification, guess I need more practice. Thanks again!
Nice vid, Seen your other one earlier in the year sometime. You should invest in some ultra light breathable waders. Maybe ultra light clothing like tropical fisherman wear from companies like Columbia or Simms.
Thanks so much for watching! I really need to, these waders are amazing, but they are SOOO hot. I get out of them and I'm literally drenched in sweat, haha! Thanks for the advice, I'll definitely look into some. Do you have any recommendations that you've used from those brands or other brands?
@@JimmyBreitenstein I have a pair made by a company called Proline. Orvis is pretty good & if yo have deep pockets, SIMMS=, get the G4. You might have to go for shirts made by Real Tree for the tree/brush type came look. Happy shooting.
like it am thinking of using a stand up paddle boat then blind it, coz i want to keep myself kind of dry then paddle sit i wait, do u think that can work
Cool build! i just recently build one made out of pvc tubes.. but thats not able to hold me up, i would like it to carry me so i can move around without needing to touch the ground.. is this possible to hold you ?
@@JimmyBreitenstein that's sick! Can u link me to the plywood and insolation you used and tell me a bit more how u put it together? And maybe some measurements would be awesome, bro 👍😎
Thanks! That's a great question. I've got a little flap that opens in the back of the cover, it allows me to crawl in and stand in the middle. Honestly, it can be a bit of a pain getting in and out, I'll be making a new version that'll be a tad easier.
I had a blast for sure! Some of the birds got within 6 feet or so from the blind, but the majority were about 30 feet away and some quite a bit farther.
Hey Jimmy, i just found your channel these are some awsome video's that you make. But a tiny question? When and where do you decide to do in the water? Can you be sure about the dept and stuff?
Hello, I'm glad you found it and are enjoying! Funny you should ask, I'm working on a video that will answer those questions right now. In the mean time, as a brief answer, I do a lot of exploring and notate which species I see in certain locations at specific times. I also will check to see how deep the water is beforehand if I'm at all worried about it being too deep. I hope this helps!
velcro cable ties work better than that string you are using to secure the tent poles together and you can leave it attached to the tent poles so you never loose it 😉
Very true and well said! That little bit of effort often goes a long way with bird photography, or any photography in that case I guess! Thanks so much for watching!
As a fellow photographer I am worried about you. Always make your blind ina U shape and never with only a hole in the middle. You need an escape out the back if you get in a swift current or caught on something underneath.. It could drown you,
Thanks so much, that's a great tip. Since this video I've made a new blind and have used a U shape blind for the last couple of years, it works great! Thanks again, sure appreciate it.

That very last avocet photo to close out the video ... just beautiful.
Thank you so much! That was my personal favorite one from my time with them, I really lucked out with that sunrise color reflecting on the water!
wow!!! just fell in love with the Avocet in beautiful golden light, Awesome.

I think so. I'd just recommend trying it out first without the camera gear. All it takes is one quick movement and all your gear is in the water.
Bear River bird refuge area? How do you stay warm in the waders while in the water for so long?
Nope. I just layer up like crazy, sometimes 5 or 6 layers 😆

Do you swim with your hide or do you have to have your feet on the ground when moving?
I always try to keep my feet on the ground, it gets too difficult to maneuver otherwise.
