- Wild Camping on a Lake District Mountain Ridge with bad weather in the Nordisk Halland 2LW Tent
In my latest adventure, I head to the Lake District National Park with my friend Phil. I hike up a brutal ascent with a rucksack that weighed almost 20KG (which was a nightmare but good exercise). We find a spot on a steep ridge and pitch the tents to give us great views of the stunning valley below.
My tent was the Nordisk "Halland" 2LW which denotes the 'light weight' variant which is made from Silnylon material - weighing in at an astounding 1.5KG. A fantastic piece of outdoor equipment with a stunning colour to match.
I captured some nice drone footage of the area including low level cloud spilling over the fell tops. Sadly, some bad weather set in; with gusting winds and rain throughout the night - meaning that Phil and I spent a lot of time tent bound - but when you have a tent like the Halland, it's a very pleasant experience!

Brilliant once again Chris. Very moody weather. And that tent, she's a stunner 👌 Got to love Phil with his Stella, no nonsense 😂

Magnificent
Thanks David
Nice to see you back in the Lake District once again.
Thanks Gordon, always good to be up in the Lake District! ATB, Chris
wow thats a massive tent for just 1.5kg, looks way more spacious than a Scarp 1, although doesn't look as taut, great video
Check out the Oppland 3LW - much bigger and only 1.9kg. Mental - thanks for watching
@@MCMOutdoors cheers mate will check it out
Hi Chris. Another great video mate. I’m the same with the pack weight. Weighed my pack before my last camp and was similar to yours. As with you, I will never be one of those gram watchers either. Whatever makes it a comfortable and enjoyable camp! Look forward to the next video. ATB. Al.
Cheers Al, it's always worth it when you reach the top with those extra luxuries! Thanks very much for watching mate 👍
Great work (again).
Thank you for the effort to get up there for us to be able to share the stunning views.
Thanks Stu, top location and worth the effort 👍
Great vid, really enjoyed that 👍
Glad you enjoyed it Rob - ATB !
Thanks Chris.. Enjoyed the watch as always buddy ! Cheers and take care. Mark 👍
Thanks Mark - glad you enjoyed the vid 👍
Those are some respectable mountains for sure.
I'm not preaching, but I will have quit drinking other than a few NA beers now and again, two years this weekend.
Can't believe how much better I feel and "extra" money there is now.
Good stuff Chris.
Did you ever do a video with the Tarptent?
I'll have to look
Good on you Ray - definitely cutting the bad stuff out for a while and will see what happens - ATB pal
Great as always :)
Thanks for the visit Rob - much appreciated - Chris
Nice one Chris some stunning pic and great vid as always.
Love your tent looks the business.
Atb Graham
Awesome, thank you Graham - the tent is great - especially in that burnt red colour - very cosy at night! ATB, Chris
Wow that tent is worthy of its own channel! Those colours were incredible. And what a hike!! My dog is 36kg so you as good as hauled just over half his weight up that mountain...fabulous camp and footage.i smell autumn 🍂 too.
Hi Jane - was funny lugging that pack up! Certainly a good workout! Thanks for watching - it definitely does feel like autumn! Thank you also for your kind support of the channel - it is much appreciated as ever 😊👍🏕️
@@MCMOutdoors That was some pack 🤣.
Very welcome as always.
Ey up pal! Nice video and yes the better seasons are approaching 😉. You’ll be in need of some down bottoms after our last camp. Phil already there👍
Alan, when are we going to see you, Chris and Paul M together?
Cheers for watching Al, yes - bring on the better camping weather and snow! Definitely need some - ATB, Chris
Great camp that Chris with Phil the Stella man. 🤣. Some superb camera work and drone work and seems all that extra weight was worth it. You are right with that tent of yours, very photogenic on the fells on a evening.. Makes my tempest tent look camera shy... lol. Keep up the good work fella and stay safe pal. Atb matey.
Thanks mate - yep, was worth dragging it up to the top for the end result! Thanks for watching 👍👌⛰️
Those drone shots are unreal 🤯
Cheers Lew!
My heart acheth for the Lake District.
Great video Chris. Love the tent, very autumnal colours 👍
Cheers Craig - top tent and top location, ATB!
Beautiful view. Being at the peak I can only imagine how windy and cool it might be at night.
Was a lovely breeze on top Sonja 👍
Brilliant that lads. Been watching these vids for 2 years now, keep telling myself I'm gonna do it but keep finding excuses not to. Bought a tent, sleeping bag and mat last year. Just need the stove and a rucksack that will fit it all in and I'm definitely trying it next spring/summer ! Thanks for another great vid
Great video I be there in September going to do my first wild camp
Epic - name sure you enjoy it - I'm sure you will
@@MCMOutdoors I am going to use the nordisk telemark 2.2 pu tent just hope it be ok for September do you have any good suggestions on sleeping bags for that time of the month
Brilliant video again Chris, thanks for taking the time, they are compulsory viewing mate 👍👍
Thanks Simon - a top night out on the fells! ATB, Chris
Another excellent review. Thank you.

Happy days - glad you liked it, was definitely an epic spot 🏕️👍
Such a nice spot for camping! Incredible views and drone shots man!
Thanks Mario - was a lovely place to pitch up, thank you for watching pal - Chris
Cracking video that Chris, and the drone footage was stunning. Nice company with Phil on this one (top bloke). That tent is awesome and looks gorgeous lit up at night. It looked like a tough hike up, so thanks for making the effort and taking us along. ATB mate 👍
Cheers Joe, the rucksack was almost 20kg after the extra beers I bought! It was a killer - good fun though and a great workout. Top adventure - yep, Phil is a top bloke mate. ATB.
Looks like a great tent!
It's a cracker mate
cool.vid chris
Thanks for watching it Jason 👍
Excellent again pal 👍
Cheers Phil, glad you enjoyed it mate 👍
Cracking video, love that area. That tent is similar in design to my abisko lite 2, and that didn't budge in pretty strong winds during a thunderstorm (also in that area) Best wishes to you and your family 👍
Thanks mate, the Abisko is a great tent - it's a good design isn't it. ATB mate
Top work getting up that mountain Chris, I'm sure it was hard work with the hefty pack mate. We all do it don't we, always nice to take some beers with you but like you say, keeps you fit.
Lovely views and the drone footage was fab pal.
Shame you guys couldn't stay out all the time but still good fun shouting to each other ain't it.
Thanks for taking us along mate 👍
Cheers Ant - great camp out - the hike up was horrendous! Good exercise though! ATB pal
Thanks Chris .. lovely peaceful vid , all our best from Brittany pal ,, stay fit and well ..
Thanks Neil - appreciate it and you too 🏕️
Looks like it was a "crackin" good time........not being English I just don't think I can pull that off 😆.......anyway, great video. Enjoyed watching as always. Cheers 🍻
Haha, good effort Ted! Was a great camp out - thanks for watching mate
Great views, tent looks mega when it’s lit up, like a summer sunset in your tent there 👌 love a grapefruit elvis juice on a camp, can’t go wrong with the brew dog range. Cant wait till my lads old enough to go walking and camping as my outings have reduced recently since he was born. But new different adventures for me now being a daddy 😆. Cracking vid as always, look forward to your next one 👍
Being a Dad is the best adventure you can have - enjoy it mate! Thanks for watching the vid - hope you're out on a wild camp soon, take care pal - Chris
Mate, loved the drone footage . The vastness of the place made the water below you look like a puddle. Thanks for sharing.
Cheers Mark, hope you're well mate 👍
Nice , peaceful trip. Great area and views, thanks mate. Cheers from Canada eh.
Thanks Peter - a lovely area isn't it, ATB - Chris
Great video Chris in an amazing spot, love the tent mate ⛺️⛺️
Cheers Alan, it's an epic shelter! Thanks for watching, Chris
Great video Chris. The intro was awesome! That tent looks great. My brother's mate has the same one (but in green). He's had it with him on our last two camps but I've not really had chance to look at it as it was persisting it down both times⛈️😆. Autumn is defo on the way. I was wearing my down trousers in the back garden last night, so you must have been feeling it on the fells ❄️
Definitely need some down trousers at some point mate. Was a top camp out - the Halland is a lovely tent at an insanely low weight and pack size. Can handle some tasty conditions too - thanks for watching pal.
Thanks again really enjoyed the camp ⛺️ took mind off the energy crisis 😔
Glad you enjoyed it Diane - stay off MSM and just watch nice camping videos instead - works a treat, ATB - Chris
Fantastic chris as always inspiring, tent is the dogs bollocks 👍...Great to see you out appreciated mate all the best 👍 😃🏕
Cheers Gary - top camp out mate - tent is ace! Thanks for watching pal!
Well in Chris! looked a great mix of exercise, chilled time and sketchy weather ☺️
Hope you're well mate,
Adge.
Cheers Adge, yes it was top! Legs are feeling it today though 😅 Here's to a great autumn and winter camping season 🏕️⛰️
@@MCMOutdoors absolutely! see you out there 🙂
Superb video mate thanks, not got that tent but love the look of it and it's huge! great drone footage too 👍, and one of my favourite locations.
1.5kg too - it's a very well designed tent! Glad you enjoyed the video pal! 🏕️👍
Cracking video as always buddy such a beautiful place the Lake District definitely need too get up in that area again soon keep the videos coming take care man 🤙👍👍👍👍
Cheers Andrew - it's a lovely place, very special. Especially in Winter! Thanks for watching mate. ATB
Excellent Chris, atmospheric this one ,always your best content when you’re in the lakes 👍👍👍👏
Glad you enjoyed it Dave - great to be back out doing what I love - ATB, Chris
Nice tent mate great vid as well
Cheers Dave - a really enjoyable camp mate. Thanks for watching 👍
If you go out with Phil you are guaranteed bad weather😂. That looked a canny pull mind and did not like the sound of an internal clean but a superb view from the tents and from the air. Nice looking tent and real roomy inside, what is it with you and red tents 😳....Surprised you got good nights sleep with the wind and rain and shame there was no sunrise but still the views were superb, cheers Alan
Haha, cheers Al - was a great camp, despite the weather! Always good to be out on the fells! Hope you and Mrs Metalman are well mate - ATB, Chris
Oh superb trip out there Chris. What a fantastic location. I miss getting to the Lake District. Your videos are always such a good watch. Cheers, Warren :)
Thanks Warren - was a lovely spot! ATB and thanks for watching ⛰️
Great video Chris, it was a top adventure, tough climb and a great night mate. Tent looks mega lit up, much better than mine lol. Roll on many more..........See you soon mate...
Nice one Phil, looking forward to trying out the CP2 for myself! I think yours is ace and looks great. Top camp mate and yes, here's to many more 🏕️⛰️
Nice trip gents. I love those cloud conditions myself. 19kg, meh… lightweight 🤣 more the better.
Mate seriously though, that was a superb intro, short but to the point. Would love to see you do more of that in the future. Gave the whole thing a great feel.
Nice one Chris - defo need to get the pack weight down, but every now and then I just do a ridiculous one for a laugh....... :-) Glad you liked the intro - was just trying to mix it up. Didn't use 'auto' on the night shots this time - so the exposure didn't jump all over the place! Haha. ATB pal
Cracking video Chris! Great setup! You guys should have shared a tent and saved a few kilos!
Cheers - was a great camp - lots of atmosphere up on the ridge! Haha, we like our own space 😁🏕️ thanks for watching my friend ⛰️
That was awesome Chris. Thanks for sharing. Lovely drone footage your tent looked awesome all lit up. Can't wait for Autumn to arrivemy favourite season. 👍🙏😊
Cheers Cath, yes this tent looks ace when lit from within! Can't wait for autumn! 🎃🏕️👍
@@MCMOutdoors me too. Enjoy the rest of the week. 😊🙏👍
You too ⛰️
@@MCMOutdoors Thanks Chris 👍😊🗻
Great video pal and great views. Looking forward to some camps with some cooler temperatures get nice and cosy in the tent! Also means you don't have to wake up at 4am for the sunrise 😁
Absolutely, bring on the autumn and Winter camps - best time of year! Thanks for watching Tom 👍👍
Yes yet another quality vid mate, hard yomp up with heavy kit, but as ever always worth it in that area. Loved the drone footage Chris, I actually wasn't that far away from you that day, thanks for sharing and love the tent 👍
Cheers - was a brutal hike up mate ! (and down) but well worth it - thanks for watching!
Great video Chris. Enjoy trying to guess your location, pausing the video and checking my walking app. Keep up the good work mate.
Haha, great stuff Peter. Glad you enjoyed it mate - take care 🏕️👍
Excellent video
I bet yer beers weighed 10kg 😀
Haha! I only took 2 and a tiny one! Think it was all the camera gear and tripod mate 😅
I’ve just had a quick look at OS Maps for that location. Lung buster, even with a lot lighter load than the 19.3 kg that you carried. Respect.ATB Chris.
Cheers Alan, the ascent is a gruelling one - very tightly packed contour lines as you'll have seen. The descent was a nightmare too in the wet and greasy rock, pack trying to push me off with each step. Great exercise though pal - ATB
Love the vid. I too have the Halland 2LW tent in the burnt red and love it. Unfortunately I bent the pole when I climbed out the tent and wobbled (well I am a 58 year old with bad hip). My hand naturally reached out to grab something and it was the pole. Fortunately I have straightened it and crimped the spare tube from the kit around the now wreaked part. What is the granny blanket you have? I must have one, feel the cold more now at this age lol.
Oh no, sorry to hear that - hopefully you can get hold of a replacement section! The warm cover is a 'Cosy Cover' made by Nordisk / Yeti - they are excellent and pack down to a tiny size, yet offer excellent warmth - worth a look! ATB, Chris
That is a stunning view, what's the trail you walked on this one - would love to do this
The path is on the northern flank of Hartsop Dodd 👍
Well done going up that carrying 19kg, I have a fit if I go over 10kg on an overnighter!
Was a good beasting mate! A great, atmospheric camp 🏕️👍
Another good un Chris, so what are we looking at roughly...15kg of life saving booze and 5kg of camping gear :)
Haha! I wish. Had the "big" camera, little camera, time-lapse camera, drone and everything else! Thanks for watching mate!
Jesus no wonder The Noble One went AWOL...With the hike in Diesel prices we will be going back to Donkeys anytime soon which makes me think that i should have stayed with my ex bird.
Great video and a new sub here 👍🏻 Out of the Halland & Telemark 2.2, which is your preferred/favourite mate?
Cheers Richard - I'd use the Halland if I was going to be tent bound for any length of time - that said, the Telemark is more than comfortable! Both are fantastic tents!
Hello Chris, greetings from Norway 😊 I really enjoy your channel and the fact that you have tested just about any tent I have looked at myself 😂 For the moment I am concidering buying the Nordisk Halland and I was just wondering if you ever seamsealed your tents from Nordisk? I just had a bad experience with a tent from tarptent that was seamsealed from the factory, but failed me on a trip in the Norwegian mountains. This was the first tent I have had that needed seamsealing, so I am a bit sceptical 😊
Hi - what a nice part of the world you live in....... It depends...... if it's the 'LW' version which is made of silynylon, then Nordisk actually recommend you seam seal it to be 100% waterproof....... I had to do that on my Telemark 2.2LW however, I also have this Halland 2LW and an Oppland 3LW which I hadn't needed to seam seal......... in short, you should - but if you get lucky, the stitching may be just so you don't have to........ obviously the PU version is taped so this is not an issue for that one.......... my Hilleberg let in some water last night, so just goes to show - when the conditions are bad!
Nice intro there - you seem to have 'stepped up a gear' in your filming, eh? Always enjoyable, ta.
Hate to be "that guy" but if you have a pointer to that 'snug blanket' I'd be grateful - my girl feels the cold and there's a birthday coming up! I remember you reviewing this before, and I bookmarked it (and the snuggy quilt boots) but ... wine glass + laptop = all them bookmarks gone. Doh!
Thanks Barry - the quilt is a 'Cosy Cover' by Nordisk - they offer excellent warmth and pack down small. It's not a quilt per se, more of a warm, down cover - but it's fantastic. Check them out! Chris
@@MCMOutdoors you're a gent, ta.
Great video! Does the vestibule have two doors and can the whole vestibule be folded away entirely?
Just the one door on this one, it cannot be folded back like the new Oppland. A fantastic tent and you can see it in my latest upload!
@@MCMOutdoors I watched your video one more and noticed now the part where you mention the single door. Yeah, it seems to be an overlooked tent in the forums I'm in. Glad I discovered this, it's now one of my top alternatives.
Great video again buddy. I have just bought myself a Helm 1 compact and looking at my first wild camp, I am based in Lincolnshire where would you recommend ?
Sounds like a great tent - best advice I can give is get an OS map and get out exploring your local area - you will find some great spots and improve your skills in the process - ATB, Chris
Lovely video that I just now discovered. Had a question and I was hoping you could answer. I am thinking about buying this tent, but I was wondering if it fits 2 people for sleeping? Or is it one of those tents that are really just a 1P tent?
Hi, this will fit two people as advertised. Dimensions on Nordisk website
👋🏻
👍
Thanks for this adventure. I would love to do what you have just done but at 76 with copd which severely affects my breathing, hiking up that mountain would finish me off. Had a recent experience in Wales where I had to climb a short, steep stretch and I had to get help 'cos I couldn't breathe. Hey ho, such is life. Anyway. I watch a lot of wild camping videos, I subbbed you ages ago, I wondered if anybody ever uses a hot water bottle on their expeditions if there's a water source? I just weighed an empty one and it was 374g. Would that little bit make much of a difference? Off to watch Steve now and I'll sub and like him.
Who knows re the water bottle mate, I just manage with the old sleeping bag and maybe a quilt to add to that. Glad you enjoy the videos - look after yourself and thanks for watching! Chris 👍
Hi Chris, may I ask if we need to seam seal this tent? 🤔
Nordisk recommend you do, says in the instructions and worth it for belt and braces.
Chris, how do you join the Facebook group? When I click on the link it doesn’t work and it doesn’t show up in the FB Groups search. Thanks
Hi Matt - there are some wide ranging changes to the group which I'm going to announce in the next video mate, so stay tuned 👍
Hi!
I was looking for the Halland 2 LW and found your great channel!
Seems that on the website and in the Nordisk pitching video, the tent has 2 zippers on the front and no side entry, but one in the middle.
Would that be a newer (or older) version?
Hi, I've just looked on the Nordisk website and the Halland 2LW is exactly the same as I have with one front side entry on the vestibule - nothing has changed.
@@MCMOutdoors thanks!
19kg plus… wow 😂
Looks like a cracking tent. Considering this one for the space and vestibule space. Does it hold its own in high winds? I’m looking at my next purchase and want a tent with a decent vestibule, but don’t want to compromise on strength. I noticed one of the comments on your previous video with this tent on how to angle the guy lines which I noticed you did in this video, a good suggestion as you can tell how it adds to the rigidity overall. Appreciate any feedback. Cheers
It's a great tent. Firmly 2 / 3 season though - in terms of winds, Nordisk have tested it in their wind tunnel up to 25 M/S which is 55mph. That's obviously the extreme limit and pitched and oriented in lab conditions. I wouldn't really take it out much over 40mph. It's a fantastic tent and I very much enjoy mine. Weight for room and features is immense. ATB
@@MCMOutdoors cheers for that. I think I’m going to go for it 👍
Tell them I sent you 😁 enjoy
@@MCMOutdoors I will do. I’ve been meaning to start a channel for sometime, so when I get round to it, I’ll upload my first video with the tent 👍
Looks a great tent, how do you think it compares with abisko lite 2. I am trying to get the money together to buy a new winter tent and am leaning towards the abisko at mo but definitely open to advice from the likes of yourself. Good video, keep positive pal
Alright Phil - the Abisko Lite 2 is marketed as a 4 season tent, whereas this is in 2 / 3 season territory - the Abisko is almost a kilo heavier, whereas this weighs in at a light 1.5KG - being lighter, it is not a '4 season' tent - but it is wind tested by Nordisk to 25 m/s or 55.92 mph (when pitched correctly)........ they're some pretty strong winds :)
@@MCMOutdoors cheers for that, i need something big enough for me and my border collie, she sleeps in the tent rather than the vestibule but to be honest a true 4 season tent is probably overkill for what i need. Any ideas of what would be big enough for long nights with dog in tent, holds up to winds and also under £450 which is my limit
Check out this beast

@@MCMOutdoors you might just have answered my prayers, this looks awesome, and a great price too👍. Thanks for the advice Chris and take care 👍👍
