Hi Marcus. Nice video. I love the smartcontroller :) I bought the mavic 2 zoom with the charging rack for 4 batteries. In that charger you have a usb connection for charging the controller. Charges real fast.

I did a quick Google search on how to fix the horizon. Top choice was a short youtube video titled: "How to Level/Fix Horizons during drone flight". There's a gimbal adjustment in the settings where you can adjust the roll or yaw as necessary to flatten out the horizon while in flight.
Hello Marcus, great video as usual. F.Y.I you do not have to short press and long press the power button to turn on. Just press and hold power button and it comes on/off. One more thing Philly is right, flip down the antenna, it uses the flat side of the antenna for best transmission.. I have seen a number of unboxing videos of people getting theirs and they would get in the box a USB-C cable and a Power Adaptor. When I got mine last week there wasn't a power adaptor. DJI told me they don't include it. It seems when you pay this much for a Smart Controller you could at least put in a $5.00 power adaptor wouldn't you ?
Question for Idaho Quadcopter: I just purchased the DJI Smart controller and Mavic 2 Pro. I have a SanDisk SD card 128gb Extreme Pro. Tell me if you will if the following procedure is correct. I would "NOT" put the SD card into the aircraft but would insert it in the Smart Controller instead. I would receive my videos and photos transmission "from the aircraft straight to the controller's internal storage..." Is that right? From the controller's internal storage I would transfer to the SD card and keep my files there. Is this the right procedure and right line of thinking? What do I need to do to make this happen? Can you give me very easy steps to follow like a,b,c or 1,2,3?
The SD Card in the controller will only record the lower res files transmitted from the drone. You need to tell the controller to save to the SD card rather than internal memory. You will still need an SD card in the drone to record hi res video. 👍

Hi Marcus. I noticed a few observations. You only have to do 1 long press on the controller to turn it on. Your antenna needs to be turned down 90 degrees for best signal to the drone. During your sport mode I could see that the obstacle avoidance sensors were showing green front and back so it was still flying in P mode. Many thanks for the video, most enjoyable indeed. Keep well and take care. Dave from South Africa.
Thank you. Yes, all of your observations are spot on! I neglected to turn on the mode switch in the app, so was not really in sport mode. Thank you again!
Good one Marcus. Congrats on getting the Smart controller. Seems to be the way forward for chargers on things. Apple and Samsung are omitting the charger from the next phone releases. Love the smart controller and eagerly await the long promised on update to include mavic air 2, on the last two updates I’ve done the smart controller has lost connection with the drones camera on powering up, had to reset to factory and reload fresh update, I don’t think I’m alone with this problem. I use a hard shell cover for the controller with sticks attached made by pgytech and a backpack by Anbee which has a foam insert which has cutouts for the complete setup. Love your shows. Maybe the helix didn’t work because of lack of contrast with the tower and the background?
I wish that had been available all along. I bought a tablet at first but over the years, as the DJI app got bigger and would not run on a 2GB tablet. I replaced it with a 6 GB phone that works great, so I've had a Motorola phone, a Samsung phone, and a Samsung tablet, the total cost of which was more than $1,000. Have you seen those hats that have an umbrella on them? I find that is perfect for putting your controller in the shade without losing a control hand and might help with your overheating issues.
Marcus, I too just got the refurb sc from DJI store. I called them (I was mad) about selling me a 600.00 thing with no way to charge it. They gave me the any 2 amp charger will work bit. Took over 8 hours hours to charge from 46%. I ordered the one from Amazon that comes with the cord attached that claims to be as fast or faster than Orem. Took 5 hours. So I ordered another one that goes 12 volts, 2 amps and 24 watts (rather than 15) and it is 2coming in the morning. (13.00 rather than 22.00 on the first 5 hour one). I really like the simplicity and brightness of the SC but DJI should include a factory charger and neck strap attachments. It is not good business, if not dishonest, the way they are selling the refurb.
Idaho Quadcopter Lon, it doesn’t take a genius to figure out that charger was never made to work with the smart controller. It doesn’t begin to do the job. (I tried it the first thing). What’s the matter with you? Lol
I wonder how DJI is going to handle pairing the Smart Controller with the Air 2 which does not have a pairing button as found on the Mavic 2 (Zoom & Pro).
Been doing some serious research on getting this so I can live stream with the HMDI port, but I’m still wondering one thing.. forgive me if you didn’t mention in your video, I skipped around a bit because it’s such a long video. But is the dial on the right side a continuous pull/push exactly like the left side, or is it more of a single click like on the Phantom 4 series?
Great controller but i think it's to expensive. Yes you don't have a phone 📱 to worry about but again 600$ allot of money 💰 for just a controller. I enjoyed your video you do an amazing job.
I had the same horizon issue with my Mavic 2 Zoom, I hope an imu And gimbal calibration will fix it.. do need something other than the phone what do you think about the christalsky? It’s cheaper.
It’s really a shame they didn’t include the fast charging brick with the refurbished unit. Or even give you the option of buying one. As far as the case is concerned, Mel showed me a case at SpinUp last year that held the Mavic 2 and the Smartcontoller with sticks still on. Great review , and this did seem to solve your problem of an over heating iPhone as your controller. And it was very easy to see the screen even looking at it from another screen.
$750 for a proprietary transmitter? Maybe the RadioMaster TX 16s $149~(soon having touch screen enabled via BetaFlight) will add the DJI protocol? Wouldn’t that be a hoot? 8)
I had thought of getting one but with the Crystalsky and three different remotes already, it's hard to justify. Have you perfected the live streaming on this? DJI is misleading on several of there products (I'll stop there).
Hi Jim, I never do live streaming from the field, (at least so far), so I wasn't to worried about that. Yes, I was dismayed that DJI does not include a fast charger with the controller. 👍
Idaho Quadcopter Same here, if I would have bought it last month it still would be sitting in the box, always take these rumors with a grain of salt, they will make it work with the air 2 but when?
I just got this and i am having some Range issues with the DJI Smart controller on my Mavic 2 Pro. Over the same route, the stock controller gives me about 10% better range. is this normal?
Ok last comment, you will know when you are charging it fast because the charging lights will cycle much faster with a fast charger hooked to it, when your are charging fast it will look like a disco.
Wow. I’m absolutely shocked to hear about the charging situation for yours! Otherwise it seems like a nice remote. That ability to SEE the screen is just something I never get with my iPhone either. Still not feasible for me because of the price they’re asking for it though ...
You should not be having that problem with Top of the range Apple phone. Ipad or or tablet would be a more versatile option with bigger screen & hood . I would imagine any 3 amp usb charger will fast charge .
I was looking forward to this one. WOW... OMG... $650USD ($875CDN) for a 5.5" screen. Would the DJI CrystalSky not do better? As you mention... about 3 flights on a full charge is not as good as the regular controller and factor in that its only good on select DJI products that, are limited to a very select few that could afford the entire upper DJI product line. Of which, no one would need the entire collection as a hobbyist... you'd be broke. I would have liked to have seen your iphone beside the controller to see live comparison of brightness. All in all... it does what it advertises it does but unless you have $8-10k to invest in the hobby... pretty unrealistic. I would recommend using an Android Tablet and a screen box over this stand alone propitiatory device. Funny enough... I've seen several owners use shades on these things as well. Sorry... not a wise investment (IJMO) but it takes videos like this to inject an eye opening"Reality Check". Thanks.. 👍👍👍
Yep...DJI is beginning to annoy me with all of their expensive add-ons. I was thinking of getting a Osmo Mobile 3 rather than the Osmo Pocket and just using my phone for blogging. At least I get the Object/Face Tracking with the Mobile 3, so I'm not chained to a single spot and I can attach it to a full sized tripod without having to purchase yet another friggin add on accessory. The only challenge is the Audio. I may have to go with a wireless mic if I want real distance between me and my phone's camera. Do or did you have a Osmo Mobile 3? Do you use it?. I fly with a tablet so I don't need my phone for flying. I've also got a Osmo Action so that is another possibility...but I don't get object tracking with it. Oh and Fimi Palm is on sale for $159 at Bangood. Cheers
@@jetmartin9501 I have an Osmo Mobile 3 and really like it, for all the reasons you state. However, it can be problematic when you need your phone for something else.
@@IdahoQuadcopter Thx...Yep I can see that. That to me is the major drawback but not having owned it I wasn't sure if it had other issues (e.g., draining your phone's battery in active track mode, etc.). I was asking Ken (originalDobo) and his only comment about the Osmo Mobile 3 was "It's a mess stay away from it". Of course he didn't elaborate beyond that. Hence my question. I've never heard anything bad about the Osmo Mobile 3 so I don't know what his problem was with it.
It's a good controller but realistically with how cheap touch screen panels of that size are it could easily be half the price and they'd still make money on it. But this is DJI so they slap a premium price on it. =/
Crooked horizon and no precision landing...WTH...not a good day for the MP2Zoom...It's in a state depression because it's little brother (MA2) has taken all of it's spotlight.
Yes, I've notice with the M2Z, it'll nail the landing if you stay out of the intelligent flight modes. That's just anecdotal, but it has been my experience. I need to do a gimbal calibration, and I suspect that will correct the horizon.
Marcus just kidding, and another great review, do you think they will include the Mavic Air2 in the list of drones that will connect to the smart controller?, stay safe Marcus we need you.
In all the drone videos I watch, virtually everybody is flying standing up. Well, that's pure BS. I am 78 and been flying drones for 6 years now, and I have never done it standing up. I mean, why would you? It's stupid and unless you got one of them wierd hats, there is nowhere to set your drink. DUHH. If you must, take a light weight folding chair out with you when you fly.
You dont want to use your phone as your RC period. Not because the phone heats up, bad lighing, messaging is a hazzel so forth. So why use 15 min explaining why you want an independent RC bothers me.
My favorite part is when you said "that's enough of that" very funny that, good video pal 5*.

This Smart Controller is bright, and solves a lot of problems for sure! Thank you!
I agree, I see that they don't include a charger now even if you buy a new one.
@Lon Denard Wow, have a nice day Lon. By the way it doesn't fast charge on the drone charging brick.
I'm hoping we find out soon. 👍👍
@@IdahoQuadcopter You use the same button that powers the MAV 2 on or off to pair. The button on top of the battery.
hi marcus is it posible to load litchi on this.
I don't know. It would need to be side loaded.
Thank you. Both dials are continuous, no detents. 👍
Great controller but i think it's to expensive. Yes you don't have a phone 📱 to worry about but again 600$ allot of money 💰 for just a controller.
I enjoyed your video you do an amazing job.
Thank you! Yes, it is very expensive. 👍
I had the same horizon issue with my Mavic 2 Zoom, I hope an imu And gimbal calibration will fix it.. do need something other than the phone what do you think about the christalsky? It’s cheaper.
I've used the Crystal Sky before. It does work well. 👍
Oh yes, the SC is a real winner in my book. Thank you Ron!
Nice Marcus, but to expensive for me. I'll just use a sunshade.👍👍
I hear you Greg! I had to take a big breath before hitting that buy button. 👍
$750 for a proprietary transmitter? Maybe the RadioMaster TX 16s $149~(soon having touch screen enabled via BetaFlight) will add the DJI protocol? Wouldn’t that be a hoot? 8)
It's not cheap, but it does work great. Thank you. 👍
I was going to get one but I changed my mind because i have no intention of getting a mavic 2
Honestly Bryan, I bought it on their promise of making it available for the Mavic Air 2.
Idaho Quadcopter Same here, if I would have bought it last month it still would be sitting in the box, always take these rumors with a grain of salt, they will make it work with the air 2 but when?
@@tdrdronesebikesandscooters8377 Good point.
@@IdahoQuadcopter I will save this video for when i get it, i won't have to read anything hahaha
I just got this and i am having some Range issues with the DJI Smart controller on my Mavic 2 Pro. Over the same route, the stock controller gives me about 10% better range. is this normal?
They should be about the same. I do not know. 🤷♂️
I’ve heard this is a common issue
when your landing is not accurate try calibrate the IMU. The factory charge cable is indeed fast, phone DJI and see what they say about your cable.
Fast charger came with mine!
Ok last comment, you will know when you are charging it fast because the charging lights will cycle much faster with a fast charger hooked to it, when your are charging fast it will look like a disco.
Thank you! I'll look for that.
Wow. I’m absolutely shocked to hear about the charging situation for yours! Otherwise it seems like a nice remote. That ability to SEE the screen is just something I never get with my iPhone either. Still not feasible for me because of the price they’re asking for it though ...
Yes, it is expensive for sure. I bought a fast charger on Amazon, and it did the trick. Thank you John!
You should not be having that problem with Top of the range Apple phone. Ipad or or tablet would be a more versatile option with bigger screen & hood .
I would imagine any 3 amp usb charger will fast charge .
Yes, a 3 amp charger works well. 👍
You know the Earth isn't flat. 😳
Huh?
My dji smart controller came with a power adapter
Others have told me the same thing. 🤷♂️
Welcome to the Smart controller club.
Thank you!
If this was plentiful and more affordable it would've done so well....
In the left corner hit the x button and then the recording box will go away
I sent you an email for info on the oem smart controller charging brick .
Thank you!
Thanks.. 👍👍👍
Yes, I was getting tired of my iphone heating up and not having FPV visibility. I agree, the smart controller is cost prohibitive.
What a qlair
It's not bad.
DJI's moto: Mo accessories, Mo money, Mo Profit. It's like the Osmo Pocket $300 for the camera and then another $150 in accessories to make it useful.
I ended up selling my pocket, but you are spot on. In the end, I was into it for about $500.
@@jetmartin9501 The Mobile 3 has a huge battery in it. You can actually charge your phone battery with the gimbal if needed. 👍
DJI don't give you the fast charger the main part of the controller that is so stupid
I agree. It should include the charger.
Gee weee put it in the air already!
Thank you.
It would cost them an extra dollar Marcus
Yeah, they're in it for the $$$.
Still too expensive for a controller that only can be used on a couple drones
I agree, it's not cheap.
It's a good controller but realistically with how cheap touch screen panels of that size are it could easily be half the price and they'd still make money on it. But this is DJI so they slap a premium price on it. =/
It would have landed on it
The cell tower? Yeah. 😎
Marcus that looks like a lot of booze behind you 😳
Just decoration.
Marcus just kidding, and another great review, do you think they will include the Mavic Air2 in the list of drones that will connect to the smart controller?, stay safe Marcus we need you.
@@Steve53 Thank you Steven. I am hoping the compatibility with the Mavic Air 2 arrives soon. 👍
Marcus hope to see that review on your channel soon.
It's all about the $$$ DJI knows you will pay for those products 😢
No doubt DJI is a for profit corporation. 👍
The newer generation works better and is cheaper now
i love my Typhoon H controller altho the prices were close im happy its not a DJI...great drones lousy company
I'm glad you are enjoying your Typhoon. I've never flown one.
More power to you. 👍 🙂
..... does it matter?
did you lose weight ?>
I'm working on it. Thank you! 👍
You dont want to use your phone as your RC period. Not because the phone heats up, bad lighing, messaging is a hazzel so forth. So why use 15 min explaining why you want an independent RC bothers me.
