There is a lecture from 1998 (University of Florida) where Buffett says that he has been looking into Japanese stocks and that he can borrow money at very low rates but he has not found anything yet. So Buffett can have a concept in his head (buying a basket of undervalued foreign stocks by using cheap leverage in the foreign currency) for decades and act when he finds an opportunity. 22 years of waiting before he acted. Buffett is a gangster.
Idk why but I just remembered when I was watching some of mohnish's older videos when he didn't have a good mic, and now feeling grateful for all you commenters on here that helped convince Mohnish to get a high quality mic. Now we can hear all these Buffett and Charlie stories and investing ideas in general thanks to you guys
I wish someday to attend a masterclass in person with Mohnish till then I'll delve into these videos. A Big thank you for sharing the wisdom on life and art of investing.
As always beautiful deep insight talk by Mr Pabrai. Never missed any of his talk on UA-cam and hopefully there will be more talk in coming years. 🙏🙏🙏 0:06
I fully agree with Mohnish. Unfortunately, I haven't had the same luck. I created my business and ran it for 20 years. I became very bored to deal with all the politics and stupidity. Then I moved to the employee role, and after 10 years, I ended up dealing with many idiots. After all the frustrations, I cut all my living costs and became a swing trader, and I am doing very well. Last month was my best month ever . Regards Turkey I went there last year and the country looks like my Portugal 30 years ago, but has very cheap labour and relatively skilled. Is a very good emergent country to invest .
Great talk Mohnish! I always learn something valuable from your talks along with A Teenager’s Guide on how to Invest Like Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger.
Talk about why u got out of brookfield and micron and ur tencent bet and alibaba and why mungrr called it a big mistake and its current valuation ,it will be a great learning lesson mohnish , you could explain us ur thinking process and rationale behind investing. What about edelweiss amd sunteck which u have in ur portfolio but had quite a bad performance over years, ur winners are grt but explain us ur losers ,we will learn something
Mohnish, I love your investments in Met Coal. Your approach of simple ideas and high bets on these is my learning path. I hope to achieve a comparable confidence in my ideas to also make remarkable bets on them. Currently more than two dozen investments are running well for me but the bets are too low on each because I always be afraid that I did not cover all information…
Great video as always Mohnish. What next comes to mind after aapl for warrens best investments since bnsf is BAC. Ppl thought the bank was in trouble- except warren and brad moynihan. Now 5x their returns and berkshires 2nd largest holding and largest generator of dividend income.
Met the CEO of DJCO and he’s a very high quality person. Though he will not be managing the marketable securities which raises an interesting question.
Sir when u said ( warren buffett did not put up capital to buy those trading company what do u mean he just bought 5 % stake in those company meaning ( invested) feedback will b helpfull thank u
I still think micron will do well. Like you said it's really hard for a fourth player to come in the picture and just bc one of the players lowers their price does not mean people will quickly switch over to the cheapest producer.
So I have invested in Micron largely on Pabrai's thesis. I was somewhat surprised when he sold his position in the company, but I remain invested. The one bit of information that he leaves out, and maybe it's not significant, is that Samsung did come around to cutting their memory production. Maybe its still not enough of a cut for Mohnish to think they came back to their senses.
To catch a salmon, a spear isn't ideal as you have to aim beneath the salmon. If you miss, you will scare the other salmons. It's best to use an Algonquin fish trap and check later.
Does this video also edit out his comments on his coal investments? He has done this for multiple videos and then I have to go to other sources to get the whole video.
I hear this a lot but I think Berkshire are doing great. Twenty years ago it was about 80,000 dollars a share, now it's 550,000 dollars a share. If we leave out that weird company Lindt & Sprüngli AG, the second dearest shares in the world, then a Berkshire share is worth nearly x100 times more than any other company share in the world. In the twenty years it's been 'not performing', a Berkshire share has increased in price by nearly x100 times the current share price of any other company in the world (save one). Also, when people say it hasn't performed for 20 years they are not working out the earnings power or intrinsic value of Buffets companies, they are looking at the market price. If they listened to Buffet better, they wouldn't consider market price a fair gauge of Berkshire's performance. And even if we are talking about Berkshire's stock price, it's not going so bad lately, a double in the last 3 years for example. The 50% a year growth Buffet says he'd get if he was working with 10 million in small caps just won't happen in Berkshire unfortunately, it's just too big, and a 7x in twenty years is well below the 20x or so we see in Microsoft say, but half a million dollars a share is hardly struggling. It's been performing just dandy for over 50 years now and it's set up so well that it's probably going to keep performing for the next 50 years as well. If it performs as well as it did over the last 20 years it will be worth about 60 million dollars a share at a rough guess. I might still be alive then and when I was born they were about 250 quid, that'll be a 240,000X in my lifetime, pull up your socks Buffet, lol.

Thanks for helping humanity by sharing these...
Great, bravo. 90% of original recipe. You can also add the zest of 1/2 orange and zest of 1 lemon
That intro song is now the most pleasant tune to me in this whole freaking world. Love you Mohnish!
This has been one of the more insightful talks I’ve heard in quite some time, well done Mohnish.
Companies talking, de facto colluding, via press releases is an incredibly incisive and deep thought and analysis 🤯

I feel like that $60 floor price for oil in his Exxon hypothetical is actually his current floor price for coal in his current bet on Consol…
Great video as always Mohnish.

Thank you for sharing Mohnish ☺
Interesting seeing the Moody's and Japanese manuals.
Monish is a treasure chest of information! 😁
Thank you sir ji
amazing monologue in the start
Well done Mohnish, well done 😊
Hope we get to see a glimpse of what happened at FLAME Pune :)
Monish, what do you think about the Terry Smith's way of investing?
It's similar to Guy's and he's beating the S&P hands down...
I can see him working thru the logic of his recent coal bets with some of the examples

Where can I get the statue of the grand ol' man Mr. Munger?
I feel like this is a repost. Or did I just get a deja vu from the future?
Finding a true value play, indeed, it will just look at you in eternal light, the math you need is minimal, excel won’t add value.
From 1:00:00 to 1:14:00 it gets dark outside. In only 14 minutes? How did that happen?
nice observation
54:48 what’s the name of the investor mentioned here? Pollock?
Pulak Prasad, he is a great book too!
Please, fix the sound, it's unbearable at times.
Does this video also edit out his comments on his coal investments? He has done this for multiple videos and then I have to go to other sources to get the whole video.
What do you mean 'go to other sources'.? Do you have it, Can you pass the full video. I really want to know the Coal thesis.
Pabrai - Check out Richard Heart - he can´t win any harder ! ✨✨✨✨✨
Mohneeeeeeeeesh
Tell us about coal next time Mohnish 😉
warren buffet berkshire is not performing for last 20 years. Please put some light on that

Do u like eBay?
Haha Mohnish is having a good non-alcoholic life.
Why did Mohnish reduce his India exposure comparable to the past? Is it because valuations are getting out of control?
Obviously, PE is over the top
