All these tutorials are very useful to people who are actual professionals and had meaningful contribution in their jobs. My last 2 jobs were super niche and barely gave me meaningful experience and even less a feel for impact. They were a struggle.
@@JeffSu Hey, Jeff! I am not sure what do you mean. Basically, my last job was a maternity cover. I interviewed for a position I was sure I would do well, judging on the JD and the interview task. Then the job turned out to be a different position, which is way more challenging. Since it was a very good company I did my best to improve, but it was never enough, since I was missing lots of knowledge. The manager who hired me has left and there was another one to fill in. And then another one. Aaand then another one. I had some personal issues, which could not coexist with a tough job, so I quit. 3 months later I am still unemployed with 4 years of experience I can't be proud of. Tried applying for a Junior position so I can start fresh, but I guess those 4+ years of experience don't help ... even if I ask for way less money than the market's avarage.
Wow, your tips are like finding an oasis in the desert of job search advice out there! 😄 I always tie myself in knots trying to talk about my experience without rambling like a lost tourist. Thanks for the straight-shooting advice - it’s a game changer!
Your the best! You give amazing tips and advice, as someone who’s graduating with a bachelor’s degree in December. I’ve been looking at your videos for applications and job interviews.
Your video is very nicely done, has great tips, and is presented in an easy-to-understand, and then execute fashion. Thanks for sharing your insight! I have quite a few friends who have been laid off recently and will make sure to pass this along to them.
thank you for this Jeff, I have a phone interview on wednesday and i used your prompts with chatgpt to come up with a better sounding tell me about yourself. i'm still going to tidy it up a bit but it sounds a lot better than what i had before.
being a welder in construction industry and trying to pivot to Tech industry is mind boggling and hard to figure out a response to this question.. can you do one for us labor workers going into tech? thanks and love your content. new sub
Hi Jeff, I came across your video and was totally amazed not only by the actionable tips but also the entire quality of the video. It was so engaging, intuitive and beautifully done. I am currently working as an instructional designer and may I ask what tools you use for creating those videos? I felt I learned few tricks and can apply them to my video edting in Camtasia.
Can you do a video on how often should be applying for a new role? Especially since company loyalty and tenure is a thing of the past because of the current climate of layoffs and studies show that one makes more when they move to a different company
You should definitely interview at least once a year to keep your interview skills up to par (even if you have no intention of leaving). I personally do not think you should let something external (i.e. company loyalty/tenure) dictate when or how often you apply for other roles. A good rule of thumb to live by: At every job, you should either learn or earn. Either is fine. Both are best. But if it's neither, quit (Gerry Tan)
@@JeffSu Should I quit if my current job is a better potential career path than the new one, there are more rooms for me to go here. But the current job can't support my long-term dream and I don't feel truly happy with this. One more thing, everyone even my boss told me that I performed well in the current job. They tried to ask me to reconsider my decision. Because the two jobs are in totally different fields (HR and engineering), so making a decision would drive me crazy.
@@JeffSu “you are a professional PR specialist with 20 years of experience, write an-attention grabbing hook to connect Jeff Su and OpenAI’s marketing team. Keep the output within 100 words.”
Thanks Jeff! I believe you'd used a slightly different version of this prompt for the "Tell me about yourself" question in one of your other chat gpt for job search videos right? I think this one looks more efficient, especially since the past section now limits the answer to only 1 relevant work experience. Plus I think this version doesn't seem to require a follow up prompt to get a much more streamlined and hallucination-free output unlike the previous one haha
@@JeffSuYes indeed! I was actually kinda hoping you would've gone into a bit why this version is better for anyone (example me 😁) who saw your chat gpt for job search video part 1. Btw thanks to you, I've reached the final round of interview for a dream job I really want so hopefully it goes well for me...fingers crossed!
Thanks for the video, Jeff! I am comparing your new answer to your older one from your "Tell Me About Yourself" video from 3 years ago and the new one is slightly shorter. Wondering what's the reason for it - is it due to keeping the interviewer more engaged?
Hi Jeff. I've loved all your interview question videos. As I prepare for my interview, thanks to you, what is the best way to practice? I have 15 prepared answers and it feels like a lot to memorize.
With generative AI becoming more mainstream, I do wonder about what the job search landscape will look like in the future 🤔 If any candidate can use ChatGPT to assist in their interviews, then wouldn't the perceived quality of job seekers increase overall, making it harder to have an edge? Just a thought that crossed my mind xD
Hi Jeff, I've heard that some companies are now screening for AI usage in applications. Can you share tips to reduce any potential bias? In your experience at Google, is this a major concern? By the way, your GPT prompts have been incredibly helpful!😃
Hey Jeff, the answers from ChatGPT I got are kind of short and don't feel "meaty" enough, like your answers. I'm using regular ChatGPT and not Plus. What GPT version are you using? Would you recommend I use one of its custom GPTs?
The new law in California and New York. They adject the pay based on location and experience. Since the is fully remote if they picked someone living in rural Montana the pay maybe only 60k
Hi J, what if currently, one doesn't work at any particular company, how can we fill in the Present part? Should we take the latest job to mention it and connect between the Past and Future Framework only?
This may seem like a dumb question but then are you actually memorizing this the night before the interview? I have trouble freezing up when I'm just talking about things I already know/do let alone trying to memorize something like this before an interview. Maybe that's just me - I'm not great at speaking off the cuff, so add to that nerves and a different prep for each job - seems really difficult.
