I picked up this car in December. Living in Colorado, I can tell you for a fact it is really great in the snow and plenty of power in the mountains up I-70. No issues.
I can tell you that the CVT is a much better vehicle for steep uphill and downhill grades as you won't be gear-hunting as you would in a traditional 7 or 9 speed automatic. Doesn't get mentioned often, but it's a major benefit for those dealing with those mountains!
I still think that the mazda cx5 looks better and the new tucson is killing it in the exterior design. You don't have to look this weird to appear futuristic and the new Tucson proves that.

Went vehicle shopping with my mom and the Nissan Rogue Platinum blew us away. We looked at the Buick Encore (also nice), CX5, CRV, Rav4, Sportage, and others - some sub-compact, but too small for what we were trying to achieve. First impression when we opened the door of the Platinum in the showroom was "This is going to be out of the budget" and that was the best surprise of the day. Quality of the interior, passenger space, and trunk space exceeded expectations. The quality of the digital cockpit was also impressive. I agree with Raiti that the one miss is ventilated seats! I also agree the engine could be more powerful and a 9 speed. This is still the front runner for my mother and I highly recommend checking this vehicle out if you are looking for a compact SUV. Just purchased the 2021 Nissan Rogue Platinum in Pearl White. This vehicle is absolutely incredible. Tried the Genesis GV80, the Infiniti QX50, the Audi Q5, and a few others. This Rogue is just as good as any of those, if not better. The fit and finish inside is awesome. Totally happy with the purchase. (BTW- owned two other Rogue's before this, and the CVT is so much better than those earlier models.)
I'm not a fan of Nissans newer cars but my aunt just got one and took me for a ride in it and I have to say that it is an extremely comfortable car. The suspension feels smooth and soakes up bumps really well.
Have had 2 rogues in the last 6 years , after seeing the 2022 Hyundai Tucson it was game over , more room , power and badass looks. Free oil changes and tire rotations for 3 years , killer warranty enough said.👍
Except hyundai has a history of fire recalls and engine issues. I drive 10k miles a month so the 3 year warranty has a mileage limit which is 36k miles so that would only last me 3 months of free oil changes. I get oil changes for 43 bucks which isn't a big deal. Stock engine 2 stock engine the base engine is rated at 4mpg higher also. I'll make my money up at the pump. I wouldn't get either though because I would have 2 trust the turbo engine to last 400k miles or more but I would get an unlimited miles warranty if I did which I can. The hyundai is wouldn't trust the batteries 2 go all those miles if getting the hybrid
I got my new 2021 Rogue SL in February 18th and i love it. It came almost fully loaded except for the Hud, wireless charging and digital dash. Everything else is there. The lights the rogue door lighting. Cup holder lights. Full navigation.
I drove a 2018 Nissan Rogue and when I switched to this car, wow, I can say it feels much much better. The chassis feels firmer especially when taking turns and overall power delivery is very swift. Yeah it's not a race car but it does not feel slow. Noise isolation is also much improved compared to last generation Rogue. Mine is a SV model and doesn't have all the fancy features in this video but it already feels nice and upscale. Even with cloth interior, this car doesn't feel cheap. My only complaint is sometimes the infotainment system will not respond to media control on the steering wheel, but that's rare. Overall a very nice, quiet, nimble and comfortable daily driver.
Wonderful SUV. Loving what Nissan is doing these days! Hope they replace that CVT with a regular automatic transmission just like what they did with the new Nissan Pathfinder!!! Great review :) 👍
Great review! My girlfriend had the older Rogue and she test drove the new one and the CX-5/CRV. They made some great upgrades but the engine is definitely weak (especially against the CX-5 Turbo). We went with the CX-5 because the fit and finish on it seemed just a notch higher than the Rogue along with a punchier engine. Take care and we love your videos!
Good choice if you want the extra power but for the most part I wouldn't want the reduced gas mileage and the extra money spent on premium fuel for best performance and I feel claustrophobic in the cx5 so it's a no go for me. The power is there but the engine doesn't sound good doing it. The engine revs so low that itv doesn't sound enthusiastic at all with the low revs shifting at 5500rpm. Idk the power is good but it could improve in some other ways. I'm also tired of looking at the mazda. Seems it's been the same way forever. Just a more sleek front end and upgraded lights. Nice but it could b better but there isn't anything spectacular at this price point anyway lol.

It better be the smoothest 10 spd ever. When im driving easily down the road I hate how a 8 9 0r 10spd literally shifts 5 times just 2 get to 30-35mph under very light throttle. I hated the sienna 8spd for that and thats why I prefer a cvt.
@@occckid123 very good point. Nissans had issues with their cvt’s but a well made cvt is often superior to a torque converter automatic with many gears due to the gear hunting you described.

My dad works for Nissan and he leases a new car every year and this year he got this one in that beautiful champagne color. Really a huge improvement from the previous generation model. The only thing i would complain about is why at the very least the platinum trim doesn't have ventilated seats. They have the dead buttons for it, but it doesn't have it for some reason. Oh, and obviously the biggest zonk is that cvt.
I have a ‘21 SV Premium. Absolutely love this Ute. Wished I had gotten the Platinum but the SV is still very well equipped…yes no vented seats is odd, but it literally has everything else you could want! A bit sluggish in the motor/trans dept yes, but it more than makes up for that with smoothness & more importantly..mileage! I do a 300 mile highway commute twice a week and I’m averaging above epa 35-36mpg @ 70mph consistently!

Only expense besides upgrading to 100% syn oil after break in was for a higher CCA battery as the factory equipped one wouldn’t always fire it off in my cold temps…has a block heater, but I have to park where I don’t have plug access.

Nissan is doing a great job with the lineup. I know CVTS help improve better gas mileage wish give different auto tranny that make it take off like a jet. Still loving my 2015 Rogue. Yesterday morning was reading about Nissan reliability history think reason a lot of people dislike Nissan is due of droning CVT. I think the Rogue looks better than CR-V and RAV4. Joe been waiting for update of the 2021 Rogue review wish they made the Nissan badge as did on new 2022 Pathfinder and Armada. It is a beautiful SUV after 13 years the Rogue definitely improved over the years. Interior looks better more upscale would buy another one if something goes wrong with my old 2015. It seems Nissan is trying get back to reliability again looking for 2022 Pathfinder review vs. Telluride and Explorer. I really enjoyed this review Joe being a Nissan guy and thanks Lori on helping my brother filming on details buyers need to know of interest on buying this vehicle.
my 2012 scion tc auto does 0-60 in 8.3 sec and it feels very adequate. and that is actually same speed like the gas rav4. people just know it is and cvt and they automatically assume that it is slow because of it. I drove a nissan altima recently and the power train felt really good.
Bought the platinum edition already took two long trips great ride and no driving fatigue love the heads up display at first thought it was more a gimmick but it really adds to the safety aspect keeping all the need to know info out front. also the pro pilot assist was a great long distance highway feature

A major upgrade, and still falls short. Not sure why Nissan can't get serious about the Rogue. They have a 9 spd transmission, and a 2.0T, and yet they stay in the parts bin. Thanks for taking the ride Raiti, and saving me from the trip to the Nissan dealership for my next purchase.

I agonized over which compact SUV to get and decided to trade in my Explorer ST for the Rogue platinum AWD! The CVT doesn’t bother me, I don’t know why it’s such a big deal to some people? Definitely a speed difference from the ST but that’s to be expected. Overall, I LOVE the Rogue platinum - the Rogue won against the competition because it has the most features for the price and I like the new styling. The “leg kick” trunk opening (and closing) maneuver actually WORKS in the Rogue and that is a first for me. I have had many cars with this feature- and NONE of them ever worked until the Nissan Rogue 2021. A few things I wish it had and zonks- more settings for the passenger seat ( up and down PLEASE and LUMBAR), the steering is light in all driving modes and rain sensing wipers. *there were some brands I couldn’t even consider since they are not available near me- like Mazda (really like) and Volkswagen.
We recently lease a Rogue Sv and we are very happy. Enough power for this car, great balance, light, and we are getting 27 in the city. The only feature we are missing is the power tailgate.
Misses include the larger size, the CVT, and the lackluster 2.5NA, with no upgrade available. The Mazda CX-5, for example, came out in 2017 this generation, and gets a lot more of this right.
@@kevinm2025 Yes, Mazdas are still made. Check the sales numbers as the CX5 outsold the Forester last month. Smaller cars fit in the garage better. Larger is not always better.

Up here in Canada, it's already won the Automotive Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) Best Mid-Sized Utility Vehicle of the year over the CR-V, Rav4, CX-5 and heck everything else in this segment. I've worked at a Nissan dealership for over 10 years. This new model is by far the best with Nissan addressing most of the previous generation's customers concerns. Including more horsepower, quieter cabin due to re-tuning of the CV-T, more standard safety features (for your family) than anything else in it's class. Excellent handling and fuel economy. Also THE BEST, MOST COMFORTABLE SEATS in class. Try owning and driving for a couple of months and you'll see whether it's a long road trip or stuck in stop and go during the daily commute, you're back will thank you (AND NISSAN). Who gives you STANDARD LED headlights ? Even on the base Model???? This vehicle is a real value proposition to consider when making your next vehicle purchase decision.
I bought one and like it. I like the fact that when you buy the Platinum that you cannot get any more options. It has all except power tilt and telescopic steering wheel, and with the price of fuel it was a good choice. A Turbo engine needs to burn 91 octane...at 1.70+ a liter have fun with that cost
I trade a 2016 Kia Sorento L for one of this SV with a premium package . Great gas mileage and lots of options for better price. Happy with this vehicle.
Great review Joe. I picked up the platinum on Monday and when I opened the hood the engine cover was missing. I noticed it’s there in ur video. I called my dealership and had them check 3 other Rogues and no covers for them either.
It is going to be really hard for INFINITI to sell QX50 SUVs for $60k with this fully loaded $40k vehicle out now. The interior in this vehicle is much better than any INFINITI interior, EVER!
I traded in my 15’ Infiniti Q50 for a 21 Rogue SL premium package and the rogue surpasses the Infiniti by far….funny thing is even a 2021 Q50 has not had a refresh/redesign since 2014!

It's okay if the Nissan Rogue doesn't offer ventilated seats. Some ventilated seats use fans while some use suction, which can cause noise and can take up some leg room for the rear passengers.

my 2012 scion tc auto does 0-60 in 8.3 sec and it feels very adequate. and that is actually same speed like the gas rav4. people just know it is and cvt and they automatically assume that it is slow because of it. I drove a nissan altima recently and the power train felt really good.
Bought the platinum edition already took two long trips great ride and no driving fatigue love the heads up display at first thought it was more a gimmick but it really adds to the safety aspect keeping all the need to know info out front. also the pro pilot assist was a great long distance highway feature

Definitely a massive upgrade over the last rogue. Nissan up the game with that interior. The major zonk and we all l know what it is it’s that dreadful cvt

A major upgrade, and still falls short. Not sure why Nissan can't get serious about the Rogue. They have a 9 spd transmission, and a 2.0T, and yet they stay in the parts bin. Thanks for taking the ride Raiti, and saving me from the trip to the Nissan dealership for my next purchase.

I agonized over which compact SUV to get and decided to trade in my Explorer ST for the Rogue platinum AWD! The CVT doesn’t bother me, I don’t know why it’s such a big deal to some people? Definitely a speed difference from the ST but that’s to be expected. Overall, I LOVE the Rogue platinum - the Rogue won against the competition because it has the most features for the price and I like the new styling. The “leg kick” trunk opening (and closing) maneuver actually WORKS in the Rogue and that is a first for me. I have had many cars with this feature- and NONE of them ever worked until the Nissan Rogue 2021.
A few things I wish it had and zonks- more settings for the passenger seat ( up and down PLEASE and LUMBAR), the steering is light in all driving modes and rain sensing wipers.
*there were some brands I couldn’t even consider since they are not available near me- like Mazda (really like) and Volkswagen.
We recently lease a Rogue Sv and we are very happy. Enough power for this car, great balance, light, and we are getting 27 in the city. The only feature we are missing is the power tailgate.
Can’t beat the Rogue , she does everything right . 😃
Misses include the larger size, the CVT, and the lackluster 2.5NA, with no upgrade available. The Mazda CX-5, for example, came out in 2017 this generation, and gets a lot more of this right.

@@kevinm2025 Yes, Mazdas are still made. Check the sales numbers as the CX5 outsold the Forester last month. Smaller cars fit in the garage better. Larger is not always better.

Another great Video review! Thank you Joe and and again, great camera work by Lori! Up here in Canada, it's already won the Automotive Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) Best Mid-Sized Utility Vehicle of the year over the CR-V, Rav4, CX-5 and heck everything else in this segment.
I've worked at a Nissan dealership for over 10 years. This new model is by far the best with Nissan addressing most of the previous generation's customers concerns. Including more horsepower, quieter cabin due to re-tuning of the CV-T, more standard safety features (for your family) than anything else in it's class. Excellent handling and fuel economy. Also THE BEST, MOST COMFORTABLE SEATS in class. Try owning and driving for a couple of months and you'll see whether it's a long road trip or stuck in stop and go during the daily commute, you're back will thank you (AND NISSAN). Who gives you STANDARD LED headlights ? Even on the base Model???? This vehicle is a real value proposition to consider when making your next vehicle purchase decision.

I bought one and like it. I like the fact that when you buy the Platinum that you cannot get any more options. It has all except power tilt and telescopic steering wheel, and with the price of fuel it was a good choice. A Turbo engine needs to burn 91 octane...at 1.70+ a liter have fun with that cost
I trade a 2016 Kia Sorento L for one of this SV with a premium package . Great gas mileage and lots of options for better price. Happy with this vehicle.

Great review Joe. I picked up the platinum on Monday and when I opened the hood the engine cover was missing. I noticed it’s there in ur video. I called my dealership and had them check 3 other Rogues and no covers for them either.

It is going to be really hard for INFINITI to sell QX50 SUVs for $60k with this fully loaded $40k vehicle out now. The interior in this vehicle is much better than any INFINITI interior, EVER!
I traded in my 15’ Infiniti Q50 for a 21 Rogue SL premium package and the rogue surpasses the Infiniti by far….funny thing is even a 2021 Q50 has not had a refresh/redesign since 2014!

It's okay if the Nissan Rogue doesn't offer ventilated seats. Some ventilated seats use fans while some use suction, which can cause noise and can take up some leg room for the rear passengers.
