Shut up, morons!
sometimes we just dont know what a song is about, like when it came out in the early 70,s l didn,t know who vincet was l new the songwriter don McClean was amazing and l loved this song...
The song is about Vincent Van Gogh, who had a mental illness. He had himself committed into a mental hospital and painted quite a bit while there. He was just starting to get recognition for his paintings when he died. Some say he committed suicide and others think he was murdered.
I agree!
Love how you guys use a poetic tribute to the tragic life of an incredible artist as a vehicle for you to sell your 'merch' with your OTT thumbnails and exaggerated reactions. Totally artificial
The song is about the Dutch artist Vincent Van Gogh who lived in the 1800's and whose paintings are shown in the video. The picture with mountains and swirly looking stars in the dark blue sky is called Starry Night. Vincent is considered one of the greatest painters today, but people mocked him and his paintings during his life. He only sold two paintings. His brother Theo was his main supporter and closest friend. Vincent had an emotional breakdown and cut off part of his ear (his self portrait with the white bandage was painted during this time). He spent time in mental institutions and released himself. Depressed, he later killed himself by shooting himself in the chest.
Van Gogh suffered mental health issues throughout his life but painted even when in the hospital, creating what would become the most famous paintings in the world. While alive, he often gave his paintings away. The sadness of his life is a stark contrast to the vibrant and beautiful world he created on canvas.
This song captures the beauty of the artist's painting and his soul. To this day, I cry whenever I hear it, but I always listen.
Every picture on that video was a picture that was painted by Vincent van Gogh. His sadness shows in the pictures. He lost the woman he loved to another man and his depression was deep. There was poverty all around him and sadness.
the song is about Vincent Van Gogh, one of the best painter in the world. Starry Night s my fav painting
He was unrecognized and cut his ear off to profess his love to a girl then committed suicide in rejection
This is a song dedicated to Vincent Van Gogh. A Dutch artist who committed suicide 130 years ago. All the painting in the video are his paintings. He was a very troubled soul who suffered from mental illness.
Pure poetry. Vincent Van Gogh's life story is so sad and this tribute is gorgeous.
Van Gogh lived in constant dispar; a sad and tragic life. He was such a brilliant misunderstood artist and person. He shot himself in the chest standing in the middle of a wheat field. He died 2-3 days later. At his bedside was the person he was most closest to in the world, his brother Theo, said the painter’s last words were: “la tristesse durera pour toujours”-the sadness will last forever”
The final sentence of your comment made me weep tonight.
I think artists like Vincent Van Gogh have their nerve endings so close to the skin that they feel everything. Sometimes, they are overwhelmed.
Those are all Vincent Van Gogh’s paintings. He took his life as a pauper, having not gotten any recognition until well after his death. His paintings today have sold for as much as $125M. One of the most famous painters in the world.
It's about the artist Vincent Van Gogh
KIND OF SAD that their are those who even with the word "VINCENT" in the song title and the paintings to go with it, don't know the song is about vincent van gogh, one of the most famous artists of all time...
One of my all time favorite songs from my youth. Don McLean came out with this in 1971. About the painter, Vincent Van Gogh's life and struggle, how he worked for recognition as an artist which never came and how it destroyed him, how they just didn't understand his amazing work until after his death. And those are some of his paintings in the background, Starry Starry Night, the name of one of Vincent's most famous paintings. He saw things in the most amazing colors as if he could see the beauty and energy bursting out of every living thing. This song breaks my heart every time I hear it.
This song always chokes me up. Vincent van Gogh is one of the most famous painters now. The tragedy is that he only sold one painting to a friend when he was alive, and he never knew how popular he would be. He’s in every art book in every school, all the museums, his paintings are everywhere. You’ve seen one of his paintings, they sell for millions now. He was crazy, and poor, and ended up taking his life without a penny to his name. Very sad. This song is a beautiful tribute.
Tupac's favorite song and played by his family as he died in the hospital.. I'm glad this song touched you. :) Much love from California!
As an old Scouser myself, I've watched a few of your reaction vids, but I have NEVER seen you two so emotionially taken, and so serious, about a song and the associated images before. Particularly when you saw at the end the pictures were by Vincent van Gogh, and the song was about his life and death. Well done for giving the song and the artist the respect they deserve.
(Kirkdale lad)
The song is paying respect to the great artist Vincent Van Gogh. All the paintings are his. Brilliant artist that went insane. Google his life. Some of His paintings are in Metropolitan Museum.
He's writing about Vincent Van Gogh, who took his life at a pretty young age. He was a prolific painter, painting a couple thousand paintings in his short life! So, those paintings in the video are all his, including a self-portrait, bandaged ear after cutting part of it off!
Vincent actually sold two paintings in his life, both to his brother who was an art dealer. As others have said, he suffered from bipolar disorder which greatly complicated his life. The issue with his paintings and his inability to sell them were multi-faceted. Aside from being so dynamic and different from any other impressionist, Vincent slathered on the paint so thick that his paintings took years to dry making them difficult to show in galleries. After his death his paintings were left to his brother Theo's widow who thankfully preserved them for years before allowing them to be sold. Indeed, Vincent was tortured by his own genius. This touching elegy was, to me Mclean's masterwork, above "American Pie". Come back to this in 10 years after you've experienced something or someone you've loved and then lost; that which you've cared for more than anything in world. This will have more meaning then.
Vincent Van Gogh is perhaps the most loved artist of all time but he was tormented and committed suicide at age 37. Only after he was dead did he become recognized and celebrated. In fact the Starry Night painting is so famous and has powerful cosmic qualities despite having the hand of a child.
The best words from this song were - "eyes that watch the world and can't forget". I think that sums up Vincent - a person who loves everything he sees. How far from away an everyday self-seeking politixol slimeball is someone like that?! Actually its really something to behold and understand.
I will never forget that same painting and as I always like to say of him - the universe belongs to Vincent!
Vincent Van Gogh painted all of the paintings shown throughout the song. If you ever go to Amsterdam, you must visit the outstanding Van Gogh Museum on a Friday afternoon and stay for the open bar and music for the after work crowd.
My father took me there when I was seven, they featured one of the famous famous sunflower paintings.
I remember clearly, for a moment I actually felt light radiating from it, it blew my mind.
He did such things, my dad. I guess he knew me well. Great memories are treasures for life...
This is likely not the first post that has said this to you two young men, but Please listen to this one. The title of this song: "Vincent" refers to a very, very famous Dutch painter who lived in the late 1800's. He led a mostly tormented life, while he was compelled by his own mind and spirit to paint and put his dreams and illusions on canvas. During his lifetime he was not considered a success, but later his work became so famous that his paintings are in museums around the world and are mostly beyond price. If you will notice a man's likeness appearing often in the paintings, you will be seeing his self-portrait. This song by Don MacLean is considered by many to be a musical stroke of genius, and gives a wonderful portrayal of the artist, Vincent van Gogh. You can laugh and make jokes, but please don't cheat yourselves of an opportunity to enlarge your experience of art and the world just by listening and looking at the video. I thank you for posting and reacting to this, and hope you will enjoy it too.
All the paintings on that video where by Vincent Van Gogh
Don McLean’s voice was so smooth and beautiful, and his lyrics so descriptive and evocative. Weathered faces lined in pain are soothed beneath the artist’s loving hand... wow.
That one caught me also. I've have known this song since it first came out, and it still stirs such feelings in me, what a beautiful song about a rare talent that was not recognized in his time. His bother would buy his paintings so Vincent had money.
Vincent Van Gogh was unable to sell his paintings when he was alive. Now they are worth millions.
Patricia Downing I find that to be so sad. 😪 I’ve always loved this song since it came out in ‘71.
EXCELLENT...The Way You've Gone From Joking To Serious. Love The Artwork, Love The Song, Love Don Mclean!!!
The pictures you are viewing were painted by "Vincent? Van Gogh. The lyrics are about his life and struggles. . .
Don McLean sang this live right inside the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam August of last year. Here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/rfTBSHXV0eM/v-deo.html
American Pie was also a great historical song by Don McLean
The song talks about Vincent Van Gogh, who did all the paintings, and died in a mental hospital. He never sold one painting in his lifetime.
Hey. You're the girl with the pearl earing.
"They would not listen, they're not listening still. Perhaps they never will." I think there is a message for you here.

haha it was meant for people like them
Lol!
These to yuks have the brain capacity of a duck. I don't mean that I hate to insult ducks.
What beautiful paintings. They really speak to my soul. I would have loved to speak to him in person and watch how he transfers his inspirations to art. - RIP Vincent Van Gogh
🏞🌁🌅🌇🌄🏙✨🌆🎑🎇🎆🌌🌫🏙🌆🌉🖼
All those paintings were by Vincent Van Gogh, the painter this song is about. He had a tragic life, and was never appreciated while he lived. Now he is one of the most famous painters of all time, his paintings worth millions.
If you want to get a very short introduction, that's an amazing scene from a TV series, watch (and preferably react to) this: ua-cam.com/video/ubTJI_UphPk/v-deo.html
It's a scene from Doctor Who, where the Doctor takes Vincent across time to the modern world, to a gallery with all his paintings. I don't watch the show, but it's a beatiful, amazing, emotional scene.
This song by Don McLean is one of my all time favorite songs, and Vincent Van Gogh is one of my favorite artists (as he is for so many). Great reaction guys. 😊
Doesn't matter how old a song is if it's good it'll always be good music is Timeless
Its amazing how us older people (50's) are mesmerized listening to the young and how they don't recognize these great singers. Thats our fault. We should be telling them and giving them the chance to hear them. The musicians and songwriters do all the hard work and create the songs. All we have to do is spread the word.
The onus is on us to educate those that want to learn, like these young men. Support their channel so they will be motivated to hear the songs you choose. Life isn't very easy in Scouse county
Vincent van Gogh was a famous Dutch painter from the late 1800s.
They say he was a bit mad, even cut off part of his ear off during his life, then shot himself in his late 30s
You darling boys ☺ What a pleasure seeing you explore such beauty. Beauty from the artists. Both the paintings and the song and lyrics. You keep an open mind and find beauty all around you.
Watch the Doctor Who episode, “Vincent and the Doctor”. Written by Richard Curtis, cameo by Bill Nighy.
This song was written about the great Dutch master artist Vincent Van Gogh. He painted in the late 1800’s. Check out his story - it’s pretty amazing.
Hey, boys - my favorite by Don McLean - the song - "Vincent" is about Vincent Van Gogh - his most famous painting was "Starry Starry Night" - and all the others featured here were his -- history says that he "suffered for his sanity" - and cut off his own ear in a fit once.. eventually "took his life as lovers often do" - check out this fly-through video... hua-cam.com/video/G7Dt9ziemYA/v-deo.html - BTW, you probably DO know Don McLean for "Bye-Bye Miss American Pie" --
It is so refreshing that such young people can appreciate beautiful art. Don McLean's "Vincent" is such a beautiful and timeless song honoring the great Dutch painter, Vincent Van Gogh. One masterful artist honoring another. Guys, please research Vincent Van Gogh's life story - that would take your impression of this most beautiful song to a whole other level. ✌️
you guys just keep doing things your own way, real reactions are what matters and yours are genuine and fun to watch.
This is one of the most beautiful but haunting songs I have ever heard! God bless you Vincent! So so sad
This is an Homage and a lament from a great artist to a greater one. Towering giants like Van Gogh live in a world of children.. He could not not find a way to tell the children they were children.
This is a song that just draws you in the first time you hear it!
Great song writing, emotional but beautiful. Sad commentary about mental illness, but creativity in using Vincent Van Gogh life and suffering in his song writing.
All the pictures in teh video were painted by Van Gogh, the Vincent of the song. One of his paintings really sold at auction of $111 Million. His most famous painting is referred to as Starry Night.
Elvis Presley's birthday is in 5 more days!! On January 8th. Will you guys do a special Elvis review on that day? Like a double take of two different Elvis songs. I like his popular ones like Kentucky Rain, and Don't Cry Daddy. But any Elvis songs are great.
He did not sell ANY paintings in his lifetime and they NOW go for about 100 MILLION DOLLARS!
The most famous IS "STARRY STARRY NIGHT"..:)
Excellent, lads. Don't pay any attention to the few imbeciles below. Your reaction was beautiful and sincere. Loved it near the end when you two really were affected by the paintings and the ultimate suicide. Keep truckin✌
As others have said, the song title comes from post-Impressionist Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh (1853 to 1890) and one of his most famous works of art called "The Starry Night." All the art shown in this video are his paintings. Sadly, he suffered from depression and mental health issues (some say bipolar disorder) and was in and out of psychiatric hospitals as an adult. He eventually cut off part of his left ear with a razor and later ended up dying after shooting himself in the chest. While alive, Vincent was a poor unknown artist. Since his death, his paintings have sold for millions and millions of dollars. In 2015, one of his paintings sold at auction for 66 million dollars (50.5 million British pounds). In 1990, one of his paintings sold for 82.5 million dollars (64 million British pounds). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Starry_Night
This song was actually 2pac shakurs favourite song of all time
It's about Vincent Van Gogh -- a Dutch master painter from the 1800's - Starry Night was one of his most famous paintings... and the others featured in the video were also his... My most favorite song by Don McLean... Y'all are getting it... (Van Gogh was famous for cutting off his own ear... and eventually did commit suicide -- "you took your life, as lovers often do") -- love you guys! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vincent_van_Gogh
Where’s the gaffer tape when you need it! 😂😂😂
Starry Night
A creative heart, obsessed with satisfying
this dormant and uncaring society
you have given them the stars at night
and u have given them
Bountiful Bouquets of Sunflowers
but 4 u there is only contempt
and though u pour yourself into that frame
and present it so proudly this world
could not accept your masterpieces
from the heart.
So on that starry night u gave 2 us
and u took away from us
the one thing we never acknowledged
your life.
By 2pac Shakur dedicated to the memory of Vincent van gogh
Vincent Van Gogh is a FAMOUS, FAMOUS painter, dudes. Those are his paintings. One is a self-portrait.
There were several self-portraits in there...
Love this reaction! I know you know, but it's about Vincent van Gogh. It's been wonderful to see your pure reaction on the art and the artists tribute thoughx 😊
Vincent Van Gogh. Those were his paintings in the background.
Van Gogh is reported to have had bipolar disorder, Meniere’s disease (condition of the inner ear resulting in acute, violent attacks of vertigo and hallucinations of rotary motion), thujone poisoning (interfering with the inhibitory neurotransmitter GABA, causing mood elevating effects) from his consumption of absinthe to counteract his attacks of epilepsy, anxiety, and depression. A sick man, and a damn shame! They recently found complex musical compositions, some complete, some not, written by Nazi concentration camps prisoners while in these death camps. Through hunger, torture, and the constant threat of death they wrote their music about and through their suffering. The human mind and spirit is paradoxically both delicate, and yet overwhelmingly & phenomenally powerful!
In all these reaction they c the pictures and have no idea who the painter is, that’s just sad. If it was the 50th best known painting but starry..is number 3 or 4.
They have eyes , but they do not see
A lot of Vincent van Gogh’s pictures tended to get brighter and more vivid in color, Because Vincent was going blind towards the end of his days, so he painted the pictures bright because that’s how he could see the colors, through his vision
A tribute to VINCENT VAN GOGH.. boys !!! An artist so famous I can`t believe you don`t know who he is. Come on do some research and you`ll really get it !!!!! Good luck with your research....
All of the paintings shown were created by the artist, Vincent Van Gogh. The song is about him.
Normally I'd be the first one to rag on these guys for not recognizing Van Gogh's by sight, but (I must be in a good mood) I found their naive enthusiasm thrilling. It was childlike.
Kathy Shaidle Indeed!
Hi guys. Another cool reaction video. I think this is the saddest song ever, and it was made more interesting seeing you appreciate the paintings of Van Gogh, as you went along with the song. Van Gogh portrayed the impoverished, working people, in a way that was never done before. No-one liked them, and he he took his life, seemingly a failure. Now his work is everywhere. Perhaps they'll listen now. Well done guys. Ray
If you haven´t seen it yet, a film (well several, recently "Van Gogh - At Eternity’s Gate" with Willem Dafoe REALLY GOOD) was made "using his paintings" as tool, animation actually. It´s beautiful and gives an insight in his life (last years), death (maybe accidental?) and work: ua-cam.com/video/CGzKnyhYDQI/v-deo.html
Summer of 1972 ------------------dedicated to Dutch impressionist master, Vincent Van Gogh who suffered from Depression & eventually took his own life. -------------" Starry Night " is one of his most noted paintings.
come on guys ...he sang and wrote "Bye Bye Miss American Pie"
Investigate Van Gogh paintings in books. Then one day, view them in in a museum-gallery.
The guards won’t be able to drag you out the door.
Allthose painti gs were by Vincent... Van Gogh. Starry starry Night was one of his paintings. He is writing about Vincents paintngs and sufferings. Painting of bandage around his head is when he cut off his ear.
Love you guys you get it love love love
He was an artist Named Vincent Van Gogh
Pure poetry. Extraordinarily pure, mystical. Now we understand ...
A good book to read is Dear Theo by Irving Stone. It is the book Don McLean was reading when he wrote this song. A must read. Insightful to see how Vincent viewed the world. His passion of course you can see it in his art. If you haven't viewed a Van Gogh in person well an experience worth having
Your immature laughter ruined a touching and meaningful tribute to Vincent Van Gogh.
I love how touched you are by Vincent. I've listened to this song for years. It's impossible to listen and not sing along.
I start crying every time I listen to it
@@hellrose18 me too. I can't help it.
I'm seriously going off you two! Never heard of Don McLean you'd better hope he doesn't see this! It's a beautiful song about a troubled painter. Cut out the carry on and listen!
Such a great song.
Nice reaction to a great heartfelt song. Thanks for putting this reaction up!
Well done lads you figured it out more than most can, well done👏👏
Vincent van gogh great artist who suffered with mental illness
I'm so glad you guys got around to this song.
Glad to see you're still going strong la's.
I played this for my daughter when she was ten years old and she totally got it. It's on her play list now, along with the other famous song by Don McLean, American Pie. Give that one a go and keep up the good work...
The first time I read the lyrics to this song cause I never really knew the song all that well... half way through I knew something was very wrong and I said... he killed himself. Maclean foreshadowed it with how the song was sung and his word choices. Especially - now I understand. That really says that someone is looking back and trying to make sense of a tragic ending.
The song is genius.
Fun fact, this was 2 pac’s favorite song!!
I cry everytime I hear this song because it was the song that t his girlfriend was played just before he died
This song was written about Dutch master impressionist artist, Vincent Van Gogh, who suffered from crippling depression ------------& took his own life. ------------------WolfSky9, 74 y/o
Your guys enthusiasm is infectious I love it keep up the good work!
Tupac loved this song….check it out
what a pair of chuckleheads. Good choice guys. Carry on.
Thank you much for that! I thought your reaction was very sweet!

Do an image search for Vincent van Gogh.... I'm loving seeing your unbridled delight at the works shown. Art galleries can be a place of wonder not just a hang out for the boring old doffs and art students. All art, like music, has something to teach us: even if we don't like a particular piece.
Maybe not go into every song as if it's a big joke.
you guys are so cool and honest
Great reaction lads...all best...
And all the pictures in this video during the song are all Vincent van Gogh paintings
"It sounds just like a nursery rhyme."
Beautifully put!
And just like that. Two young dudes from NZ know about Vincent Van Gogh. Even though they had seen his pictures, now they know who he his.. the Internet is a brilliant thing sometimes. You rock my dudes
They are UK based. London I believe.
They’re from Liverpool UK
Hahaha I'm from nz we sound nothing like that I'd rather be told we sound Australian 😂😂
