  • It’s that time of year again where I have to decide what my whisky of the year is. I’ve tried to narrow this down and give a little run down of each and how I have came to the conclusion of why I chose my whisky of the year over the others. It’s a bottle I’ve really enjoyed and one I’ll be for sure to add back on the shelf. I hope you enjoy and let me know what your whisky if the gear has been.

Great pick Kevin. I haven't had this one but I really enjoyed the 10yo and Vinaya. It's really nice to have Bladnoch back. Cheers 🥃

Was great meeting you to buddy and being able to share a dram and a chat with yourself and thank you for bringing along something I’d never tried before. Hope the journey back was smooth and all of your whisky loot made it home in one piece too. Slainte buddy

Big fan of the Bladnoch Liora its buttered popcorn in a dram one of my faves. The 10 for me is more overipe sickly fruits. The Liora is really delcious and ticks all the right boxes.

    Great list, Kevin 👍
I'll look forward to uncorking the Liora, when the 11 yo is empty. Gorgeous Lowland whisky for sure!

I think I’ll need to get myself a dram of one of their age statements too and see if there’s a difference. I’ve heard good things about the 11yo too. I’m out next week and I’ll be on the lookout for an open bottle and purchase a dram 🥃 Slainte buddy and let me know when you open the Liora 🥃

Kev, really enjoyed your selection for this year (and last year's) whisky of the year. Your choices are unique in that they're not one of the'usual suspects' that are currently getting a lot of social media buzz. To me, this demonstrates that you have full confidence in your palate and go outside the box, picking a whisky that truly speaks to you.
My only experience with Bladnoch is the Samsara (matured in ex Bourbon and ex-wine casks). Initially I found it very lactic, yogurt-like, but once I got past the shoulder the funky note faded significantly. The red wine influence was quite prominent, giving the whisky a rich fruit note. It had a great mouthfeel, I imagine just like the Liora. I'll have to explore their range further. Thanks much for your reviews and recent hospitality.

It was really tough to try and pic a top 4 and I feel maybe that the ledaig Sinclair may have been in there as well, really enjoyed that bottle this year too.
I think for me it’s just how a whisky has behaved throughout the year and I just connected with the Bladnoch every visit to the Liora. And I think a replacement is on the Christmas list already. I think I’ll open the pallet up to more Bladnoch if I can find them in whisky bars and see if any more will connect the same way and the one you mentioned sounds like a great dram too and up my street with your notes. Slainte buddy 🥃

It’s a distillery I’ll be checking out more if there expressions and I have seen the 10 out in some of the whisky bars and next time I pop into one it will be the first dram I’ll order. 🥃

First time stumbling on your channel... fantastic list. BN and Craigellachie are a couple of my favorites, especially Ben Nevis. I've had the same hopes as you about the new Japanese regulations leading to more of it becoming available.

Golden Cask do brilliant bourbon matured younger whiskies, every cask of BN has been brilliant, and craigellachie, deanston and glencadam, they are underrated bottlers in my opinion

Enjoyed seeing your "Final Four" Kev and also your winner of that impressive lineup. Will also add that Ben Nevis might be the reason I like that Nikka Coffee Grain so much, if they are still sourcing a good bit of that whisky from there? Cheers for an excellent year of reviews my friend 🙏

The Ben Nevis is great and I had a dram of all 4 last night as well just to re visit and all where cracking and still holding up to keep their spot on the list. The nikka Coffey is a super dram too and one I actually had early on in my whisky journey and enjoyed and I think I’ll revisit again. Thanks for the support buddy and everything in between. Slainte Drew 🥃

    Hi Kevan
I tried the bladnoch 10year old, but didn't really care for it. I then found a bottle of venia, bought it and found it to my liking, I'm just trying to finish the bottle, I find it very good whiskey, I will try and find a bottle of your linora, and give it a go, thanks for the review !!!

It’s been a great whisky for me and hopefully can have the same effect for you. If you’re a bourbon cask fan I think you may like it. It’s different from other bourbon cask matured whisky and also with the virgin oak finish it gives it a different edge to it, a superb lowland for me and one I enjoyed start to finish. Slainte buddy 🥃

'Flat Champagne' - sadly I don't think that is top of many peoples wished for tasting note in a whisky but hey ho each to their own
