Echeveria agavoides Collection - Romeo and its Relatives Watering and Care

- Опубліковано 1 лип 2020
- Echeveria agavoides is one of the very popular groups of succulents, the name “agavoides” simply means looks like an agave. So the foliage of the plant can be confused with that of an agave.
Also known as the Molded Wax Agave as well as the Lipstick Echeveria these are some of the most popular of all Echeveria.
In this video we look at Echeveria Romeo and the collection of hybrids created using it as one of the parent plants. This includes the Echeveria Champagne Series.
Echeveria thrive in full sun, intense hot afternoon sun should be avoided. Sudden changes to the amount of sun should also be avoided. If you are growing these plants indoors over winter, when moving them outdoors in spring make the change in light gradual rather than immediate full sun.

So beautiful plants.
This video single handedly got me hooked on these beautiful succs. Love the agave shape they produce.
Have any extra care tips a year later?
@audyo14 yes watch his succulent soil video if you haven't and water them only when the soil has almost dried out. I live in a dry climate area and water then once a week during summer months.
@@deft1abc1 wow, thank you so much!

Lindas maravilhosas
All are lovely! Johnny A, Are you going to sell some of it?
oh AMAZING
I just chose my very first succulent to grow, and I found that I chose Romeo Ruben!
Not to excited about the "sudden death" part, though 😅
Just make sure that it is not in a humid environment, so good air flow - AND do not water the foliage as this creates humidity......
Gracias
Thanks.
Precioso
Hello, I love your romeo and wonder if you do sell some of them overseas, I would love to have some.

Hello Stewart, we are looking at doing a video on potting mixes and another on pots for succulents. So stay tuned and we will hopefully have something that can help.
Where can I get a pot like your big Romeo is in? That is STUNNING!
Also, do you ship to the US?
We don't ship to the US. Good large pots are hard to find, that one was a chance find.

amazing vid I have my own succulnt garden , when you garden as much as me HA HA
@johnny A I just bought my first succulent, and it appears to be a Romeo Ruben.
I have a question regarding watering:
Should I really only water my Ruben once a month (using the method you showed)?
Generally yes, however it will depend on the climate, very hot maybe a little more, not much. It also depends on the potting mix, if its free draining, once a month, if its not than less. With the watering method, he idea is to keep the water off the foliage as this creates humidity AND this plant DOES NOT LIKE HUMIDITY .... So you could water the soil with a narrow spouted watering can and keep the foliage dry.
James waters the large specimen in the video once a month, and sometimes less. However as I said, it depends on the climate and the potting mix.

Gracias
I just wish I could get one of those to Brazil! I mostly find pink champagne here and they are not top tier quality as these… :(
I want one so bad!!!!!
So many Rocio, and more to come soon with James Lucus's favourite Echeveria agavoides.
johnny A any way we can purchase and have them shipped to the states??
Lindas demais. Gostaria que alguém traduzice para o Português . Brasil.
Vai tentar fazer isso por você. Tem legendas em espanhol, isso ajuda mesmo?
How do u keep them so tight? They are beautiful rosettes
Number tip one is - Make sure they good light, otherwise they tend to stretch.
These excessive purchases from Korea caused price hike in California. Plants that were usually and readily was available and sold for less $10-15 became $500-700.
Interesting comment, most of these plants sell for under under $30 US in most countries. It is only the very rare hybrids that sell for more and very few for $500.
Desde Madrid
Can I mix half Akadama and half Gritty Mix for planting Romeo,Rubin?
Hello Scarlett, yes that should work, remember lots of air movement, low humidity and water from below.
Preciosas agaviodes, enhorabuena. Very interesting vídeo. Its dificult to me to keep alive because the weather ni Mallorca in summer IS hot and humid and when I water the plant , she sometimes died
In humid climates always water from below, (put the pot in a container of water) and never allow the foliage to get wet. Also try for good air flow and a very free draining potting mix.
Cada que tiempo se riegan
Solo cuando el suelo se seca, generalmente una vez al mes, menos en invierno.
bought a romeo rubin, lasted 5 months before some unexpected rain killed it, such a shame
Like all echeveria you need to watch the water, and some are more sensitive than others, especially from late summer into autumn and winter . Those lower leaves tend to rot rather than dry out and drop off, so fungal problems. Looking at doing a video specifically on watering echeveia soon.r
I'd kill for that heavy-duty turntable. Where'd you get it? Is it manufacturered specifically for plants?
That one is heavy duty pottery/ceramics 'Banding wheel'....Not sure where it came from.
@@johnnyAGardening thank you! Didn't even know such things existed. Any chance you can tell me the manufacturer's name as I can't quite read it?
Get your hand sorted
Hi I have an echeveria agavoides Bordeaux this was the name when purchased, is this the same as Taurus? Wish I can include a picture here as It is also very red
And also another one which says agavoides pink leaf which is more paler than the Bordeaux
This is a very difficult area, with so many new varieties comng out, most without any identification of the parent plant. Some are seed grown hybrids, others selected forms, so its really hard to tell. You can go on the name supplied, however often these can be confused as well.
Most of these are similar to E agavoides Romeo, however sightly different leaf shape and a variation in colouring. Bordeaux is said to be darker in colouring than Romeo, however we have seen a lot of very dark leaf Romeo types. The colors varies greatly depending on amount of sun stress etc. I will have a chat with James Lucas to try and clear this up.
@@johnnyAGardening most likely it’s a type of Romeo then. is there an email address or somewhere I can send the pics over to you so you’ll have a clearer description to ID them?
How long should I keep them in shade before exposing them to the sun in balcony when I buy them, please? I don’t want they die:(:(:(
Best to give them a slow introduction to full sun. So shade for a few weeks, then some morning sun and slowly more sun over a month. If they start looking burnt or shrivelled cut back on the sun.
Why are some in plastic and others in pottery. The ones in plastic pots want more water?
This is because we are filming this in a production nursery, so not everything is ceramic pots, only the display plants. We have a video coming up on pots for succulents soon.

Se ponen al sol
Los cultivamos a la sombra muy ligera de la tarde, con sol de buenos días, pero sí, crecerán al sol, sin embargo, el sol de la tarde no es muy caluroso en verano.
