My mom made this on our extra poor days, when there was no money to buy meat. It was always my favorite, she made it with French fries, but i made mine with fried maduros. Love your personality, you are a pleasure to watch.
Mine too 😅❤ even tho it was the poor meal my god sister came over one weekend calling it cat food my mom said if your hungry you’ll eat it!!! She tasted it and never looked back 😊
Ian married to Puerto Ricoan and had to learn to cook your PR food. Thank you for speaking English , I understand alot of Spanish in cooking food, but not enough to complete a recipe success. Thank you. My husband likes your food.

I'm born and raised in the Bronx but when I retired I moved to Cleveland Ohio to be next to my sons. You don't know how much I miss going to all the Spanish restaurants in New York City. Listening to you cook and explain all the ingredients remind me of home the Bronx. Here in Cleveland you do have your Puerto Rican communities not a lot but enough where I can go to certain grocery stores and get mi comida. Keep up the good work with your video; you're awesome. If the key breaks off again use a can opener next time. I know from experience 🤣🤪 I also bang on the caldero😄 congratulations on 100,000 subscribers 🎉🎈❤️
corned beef got its name from the dry curing process used to preserve the meat. A slice of beef was covered in “corns” (large, coarse pellets of salt), which would draw out the moisture and prevent the growth of bacteria.
I remember my Mom used to make corned beef for us. It was so delicious. She used to add potatoes,& platanos maduros sometimes. Since I watched this video,I'm going to make it for the first time at my home.
Yeah, you have to take the key off first. They still jam sometimes but it would have been easier. Also, I'm an old (straight) man and I think you're okay looking but you're no Amaury Nolasco? 😊
Bro you did the biggest mistake in the world by you using that knife you’re able to put shavings of that metal into the corn beef should’ve just used a can opener on top of the can with the wide side…It’s happened to me where the key is messed up and I’ve had to use a can opener on the top of the can somebody take his Puerto Rican card

This is so funny! I decided to make this dish today -2 years later-and I had to remember how to open the can:) Exactly as you explained! It turned out delicious, tho' I didn't have maduros OR potatoes-but I added a little scrambled egg, and chopped onions...Soooooo good!!
I laughed out loud when he mentioned that adding too much water would make it look like dog food! When my kids wanted this dish they would always ask me to make the dog food for dinner! They would often take this into school as their lunch and I had to tell them not to call it dog food when they ate it in school because we did not want DCF showing up at our door asking us why we served our kids dog food.

My mother used to add potatoes and it was my FAVVVV 😩😩🤩🤩😍😍 I loooved potatoes in Puerto Rican dishes like in chicken stew I love how it absorbs all the flavors 😝😋❤️
My mother used to make this a lot when I was a kid. She used to fry the little potatoes, I prefer to cook them with the corned beef. BTW if you're wondering why it's called corned beef, that's because way back when, before there was refrigeration or even electricity, they used salt to preserve food. Especially meat. The little salt pellets they used were called "corns", so when they made corned beef, they mixed chopped meat with the little salt pellets or corns, probably added water too. I like how you added spices to the meat to cut the saltiness. I made this your way and it came out very good, but I think I prefer to use a can of tomato sauce instead, so it'll be juicier without being watery. Platanos, I can take 'em or leave 'em. But I always have potatoes in the kitchen. So now I can cook more like Mami used to. Thanks a lot!
You are sooooo right, you aren't Puertorigueño if you don't cook with sofrito. I have always loved to make my own....ooops, need to go back to video. I'm cooking it while watching. Love 💘 it

You should of said” it’s so freakin perfect “ ! Lol 😝. I’m drooling here at work now. Came right on time because I had planned to make corn beef after work. Love the sweet banana in it myself. Good taste!
I have never seen anyone season corn beef with sofrito sazon or any other seasonings other than salt and pepper. I would like to try a forkfull of someone else's plate to see if I like it lol. I sautee a chopped onion, add the can of cornbeef, then I add salt, pepper, a can of salsa then I fry a cubed potato on the side and add it to the cornbeef. Then I fry up some maduros and decorate the side of the plate with them and serve with a side of corn. Hey, I'm open to trying your recipe!! After all food from our heritage is the BOMB!!!! 💕
Omg!! I grew up eating corn beef and till today still love it. I prepare it just like you. I too bang my pots as I cook. It is definitely a Latino thing. Lol. Love watching your videos. 🥰

She remembered alot. I had to use the pilan to smash up the sofrita.. she's old school🙂. She made this as well, but never with me. Thanks for the recipe. It too looks like dog food just like mom used to make😂. But it's soooo damn good. Another quick dish she made was white rice topped with fried egg over medium. Love my momma
OMG! That looks good. I have not made corn beef in so many years. Thank you. I do remember though that you need to take the key off and you open the can with the key handle on top
Love the corned beef, is very flexible and full of flavor. I have tried it in many combinations, corn, papas fritas, cubed papas, guineo maduro, platano maduro, yeah and I love banging the pot. 😅🤣😂

It’s called corned beef because the brisket is cured with large salt grains the they call corns.
Thanks didn't know that.
its called corn beef because the brisket is cured. And yes the bang on the pot is a puertorican thing.
I would like to as if you ship pasteles
corned beef got its name from the dry curing process used to preserve the meat. A slice of beef was covered in “corns” (large, coarse pellets of salt), which would draw out the moisture and prevent the growth of bacteria.
Yep, there's no corn in it... if that was the original question?
I remember my Mom used to make corned beef for us. It was so delicious. She used to add potatoes,& platanos maduros sometimes. Since I watched this video,I'm going to make it for the first time at my home.
You have the key upside-down. I'm an old woman and I got to say this. You are to freakin' cute. Such a handsome young man.
Yes, key is upside down, then twist to the right.

Awwwwww yes he is too cute
It's hilarious how he's struggling with the key.

I recomend not to add salt.... this is to high in Sodium
Wish I would’ve read the comments first I’m making it now 💀
Very salty as is
@@Missthatgirl634 yea I’ll remember that next time I make it

Yeah, way too many extra ingredients and sodium in this one, the beef in itself is salty already, just a pinch of garlic dust works wonders
Good morning
I’m going to have to make this today it’s one off my childhood favorites.

You are supposed to take the key off, flip it right side up, and then screw it so that the wide part of the key isn't hitting the can.
Awww sweet ... as I was watching I’m telling Derick to the tv screen just what you explained ☺️😊
I was about to say that

Wanted to try cook and cook soon... Then I saw that I do have a can of Libby's corn beef... It was in my pantry as a back-up for Covid pandemic (and should I be quarantined at home for at least 10 days if caught Covid)...
Watched your video yesterday.
Today, 2nd July 2022, Saturday... I cooked it following your Utube coaching as close as possible for my senior parents who are both 86.
We do not have Sofrito here at all ...
So googled to see the ingredients of Sofrito and added...
It tasted really so wonderfully nice with one rather banana added (so happen to have just one banana left... ) ...
Heaps of thanks for your coaching...
All the best and God Bless... Pang,
Republic of Singapore (tiny winy island...)
- The Far East, Asia...
2nd July 2022, Saturday, 13:36 hours Singapore date and time...
*** Hope to visit your country and your restaurant when Covid pandemic is well managed... It is progressively improving...
Beautiful song / music / one of our most loved late singer, Danny Chan...
Dedication... With best wishes... God Bless...
