I use Apple mainly for the security, so I’m happy to see more security features!
Did you see that they let the government spy on push notifications? Not as secure as you think.
If someone’s iPhone with a passcode and Stolen Device Protection gets stolen, they can remove it from ‘Find My’ using another trusted device.
Alternatively, if they’re outside, they’ll need to get back to their home or hotel within an hour to delete the iPhone from their account. Is that possible to get home until an hour and solve it?

DO NOT ENABLE stolen device protection if you have a broken Face ID or Touch ID module. It will lock you out of disabling it again

Out of interest, did your phone already know Face ID was faulty? If so, that seems like an oversight from Apple to allow you to have turned it on.
@@realtsylentYes it knew that Face ID had an issue. But i guess it saw that there was a face still stored in the system (i never deleted the scan of my face) and it ignored the system error it shows in the “About“ menu. They should probably add some sort of fail safe like disabling it from another trusted device or something, you never know if something happens with it enabled and Face ID isn’t an option anymore

The extra security is what I’ve been waiting for but because of the long delay between betas over Xmas I want a stable phone for the time being more so. Can’t wait for the final RC.

Absolutely brilliant addition, although I kind of think that hour should be more like 24 hours. And you should have the ability to mark the device specifically as stolen, then it locks the device down completely.
No, but I do love the extra security features that they presented. I only have one iPhone so it would not be practical to install a beta on it. However, I am looking forward to seeing the finished product with the extra security features once iOS 17.3 is ready for public release.

good video! so what will happen if there is a FaceID error? like water damage can trigger it(my experience) and let's see I need send phone for repair and I have insurance and when I send to them they require ne to switch off my location but once again I can't provide biometric so what will happen? also they should extend this kind of protection(biometric) to not able to switch off my phone by anyone, what apple waiting for here?!
what if i get injured or when for some other reason face ID wont work when i got the new feature enabled?

I was going to suggest that this needs to be on by default but it sounds like it needs Significant Locations to identify “Home and Work”. Maybe it needs to be a screen during the splash screens after installing the update, that outlines the benefits of this feature and why it should be enabled.

Brandon, do you know if you can still edit messages in the last release of 17.2. I’m getting a different screen bubble since the last update.
That Stolen Device Protection seems really good. I wish they made it longer than an hour tbh. It would make sense to make it 1-2 days so people can go to the police and track the thief in time. Because many iPhone users have another Apple Device as well so. It would make sense to make that way.
Maybe if we could choose the delay, minimum 1 hour tho
What happens if the face id stopped working due to damage or some other reason?
Restoring from a back up is still a problem in the latest 17.2 update. The Safari tabs from my back up is completely wiped out, even though the toggle has always been on.
I've heard of theives using the "unlock wiht mask" feature to get around the normal faceid so I hope that apple makes sure it has to be the entire face for a password reset

The new security feature will mean that if you have it turned on and crack your screen will will need to have it replaced at an Apple Store, otherwise the Face ID will not work and you’ll be kinda screwed…
You would have to DFU it in recovery mode using a computer
i thought apple removed biometrics or can it be fixed with a software update ?

Theres definitely a bug in the icloud when you go to manually back up your phone on ios 17.2. When you go to settings>your name at the top>icloud>manage settings>backups>click your iphone device>backup size>under next backup size IT SAYS LOADING. Hope they fix it in ios 17.2.1
Ive given up on them ever fixing the icloud/iphone storage bug. They actually made it worse with 17.2 its now increased a lot instead of decresed. Even after Ive manually deleted texts etc. I was told by apple it takes up to 4 days for them to be deleted on the servers end

Updated last night, cannot get CarPlay to connect to my 14pro (wired usb)….it worked fine before this update (although CarPlay always dicey).

I’ve always wondered if you Brandon had a 9-5 job and also had this channel, I was like “dang how can he do both”. But now I know that this channel is like having a 9-5 job, with Apple upgrading their phones, iPads, HomePods, Apple TVs etc… every year and their software every week seems like it I see that this is like a full time job.
UA-cam has a bug where it takes a long time for the cast options to pop up when pressed. If you reinstall youtube it works normally, but when you restart the phone it acts up again. I don't know if it's iOS bug or UA-cam, but if you see my comment. Can you test it out to see if it's fixed and also my bring light to the problem
Yes I installed iOS 17.3 Beta 1 on my iPhone 12 Pro and it is working great!
Is there a battery drain?
Battery drain is about the same as 17.2.1. Very little drain when idle, normal drain while in use, all good.

For me iOS 17.2.1 and iOS17.3 beta 1 are about the same for battery drain. Both work well for me with the 12 Pro.
@@scotthagele3254 I also have the 12 pro and testing the iOS 17.3 version today I have felt that the battery drains a little faster than with iOS 17.2. I guess I should give it more time to use it.

So I downloaded this to my iPhone 15 pro max and it seemed to have bricked my phone. I’m stuck on the welcome screen and it will not detect touch. Multiple forced restarts with no resolution.

Super stoked about the security update! Brandon, there’s still a bug where you can’t copy text out of scanned pdfs in the notes app. You should report it as well and mention it to get other people to report it. It’s driving me nuts as it’s a feature I had previously used quite often!
I think this is the first step to using only biometrics instead of a combinated way with passcode.
For some reason my 14 pro max firmware went from 2.20.06 to 2.20.05 which is weird

Finally Apple did read my ticket in feedback assistant saying that Screen Time does not help at all with securing the phone. Screen time has major bug which points straight to Apple ID password reset.

Unlikely to be backported to 16 and very unlikely 15--15 seems to have gone out of support already.
i think it would be better to *only* require face id for more sensitive settings/security actions and not the passcode if the face id fails. its already a big step forward tho!
All I want is an option to disallow password backup for Apple Pay
I use developer updates on my main phone and I use it as a daily driver iPhone 14 Pro Max
If this security feature had been released maybe 6 months earlier, I still would've had a 14 Pro Max. I'm literally punching air rn

Love the update on security but an hour to wait to change your Apple ID password. What happens if people upgrade their phone to a new phone but forgot their Apple ID password. How does that work? Would they have to wait an hour ? Why not just make facial recognition or Touch ID required to confirm the change in password.
Just disable the feature ahead of time. Upgrading your phone isn't a random occurrence, so there's time to plan that out
