My friend suggested me this movie, i was in depression and having suicidal thoughts. This movie saved me for a day, and i watched it again saved me for another day. I am hopeful. I hope I will get better
Just watched this movie and it was just amazing every young actor played their roles so convincingly as a person who was born on Dublin in 1976 it was so true to how the 80s were for me in my memory I would like to see a sequal were they get the band up and running
La La Land was great, but it's not the type of film I'd see more than once. I can watch Sing Street everyday, honestly. Even though it gives me mixed happy-sad feelings too. Love this.
+Jared Hunter I need your help with identifying a trailer I saw on UA-cam a few months ago. It's for an animated film where a guy plans to propose to his girlfriend who I think is a reporter. Then an evil villain comes to town and is also in love with the guy's girlfriend. The villain either kidnaps the girlfriend or steals the ring. The guy tries to rescue her by becoming a superhero team(?) with his roommates. I also remember that is during a time where aliens co-exist with humans. Can you help me find the trailer? If you find it, reply with the link to it.
math No, that is not it. He was an average guy, not a supervillain himself; and the movie seems to be unreleased. The guy problably worked as a street sweeper(?). The villain was a rich supervillain who I think was banished from the city. If you cannot find the movie, can you recommend someone who is knowledgeable of all movies, including unreleased ones, for me?
The 80s gave way to a lot of legendary bands and music. I think it's because back then creative priorities were different, and people were still truly free to pursue and be whatever type of musicians they wanted to be, and most of all, experiment freely. I always get this vibe from the 80's that people were more concerned with making music they liked, than fitting a certain genre, or having a specific "marketable" look just to sell themselves more than their music. *Shooting at the walls of heartache, Bang, bang, I am the warrior!*
+Tulip Star While undeniably catchy, most 80s pop was most definitely commercially orientated, with its fair amount of ephemeral and generic tunes. The rise of music videos created opportunities for film-makers but a lot of problems for musicians who couldn't access major label funds and didn't have the right 'look', which became more important than ever before. The difference to today being that you could still be musically talented, experimental AND make the Top Ten and national media coverage. Independent labels, distribution and record shops allowed for musical sub-genres to make inroads commercially, and get their music accessed by the public. Radio was also far easier to access, via regular slots for indie and other alternative music, such as John Peel. The music press was still widely read and influential on taste, although it was Smash Hits, not the NME, that had the biggest sales! As to making music they liked, there were certain advantages that helped. Housing benefit and the dole rules were flexible enough that musicians could devote a bigger amount of their time to their craft without worrying about employment. I would suggest that instruments were also cheaper, and access to free music lessons in schools was beyond your wildest imaginings today. And, getting a 'look' did sometimes only require a trawl of the market and charity shops, where the items you might pay £100 for as 'vintage' today were just the abundant old hand-me-downs from Carnaby Street that no-one wanted anymore and cost less than a quid! Today has its own advantages. I hear so much wonderful new, experimental music, especially from female artists, that simply wouldn't have seen the light of day in the much smaller field of yesteryear. Music academies (replacing the art colleges of old as a forum for musicians to meet), access to all global music via the internet, ability to share music online. It is just that you cannot make money from it, you have to support yourself in other ways, and you cannot make yourself stand out from the myriad others vying for recognition. It will never be that 'Top of the Pops' experience that it once was. So make music anyway, because you love it. Good luck!
MinesAGuinness While I do appreciate your words of encouragement at the end there, lets be realistic, in today's music industry, the only ones who make it big are the strippers who lip sync to their own background music. lol
+Tulip Star LOL. I survived the 80ties... and always thought they were shit. Discovered the good music from the 80ties 20 years later, when it was in the internet or rereleased as big CD-box-sets.. Why? Because no one did hear it in the 80ties. Radio and mainstream-TV were full of crap. And the good stuff happened behind closed doors... the insiders knew... but the others ("normal" middleclasse teenagers) with desire for good music were starting to listen to the old records of elder siblings from the 70ties and 60ties... thinking "Oh, THAT was good music those days *sigh*!"
Lopyj Can you provide an example? If this music is "shit", then which do you consider "good music from the 80s"? Because when people nostalgia about the 80's, it's mostly songs that were in fact, in the "top songs" lists from that decade, many respectively from the year they were released*..
Well, me as a teenager was not so fond of computermusic and I hated that commercial typical "80ties sound". The Charts were full of that. Today I like some of that, but still I am not a fan. Even David Bowie sounded like Phil Collins. So looked back to the 70ties and 60ties.. ;) But I also wanted to show, that at every time people tend to look back to the music of older days, because after 10 -20 Years we see, that just the good stuff "survived" in our memories and the crap mostly is forgotten (luckily, lol). And, also more obscure stuff, that no one got to hear those days, today is re-discovered and released in nice CD-collections. Just try to watch old music shows on youtube, TOTP or smiliar stuff, and try to find the WHOLE shows, not just the few top-acts cut together...guess you will see ;)
Netflix had this for awhile a couple years back . Took a chance and it’s one of my favorite films of all time . Everybody involved did an amazing job, it really feels like you’re in 1980’s Dublin !
I just watched this movie for the first time yesterday and now can't get it off my mind, it was SO good. A breath of fresh air from the now formulaec movies we've been getting. Only 2 characters have arcs, and the others merely complement them.... as opposed to the forced arcs we typically see in movie characters these days, and forced ticking clocks too - forced, forced forced. Kudos to this movie for focusing on what really makes a movie good (as opposed to gimmicky) - the world, relationships, desires/goals and emotion. I really can't wait for the next John Carney (screenwriter) movie.
Agree with it all except one thing. I believe Brendan’s arc was as important as anyones in this movie. Obviously it’s about Cosmo and Raphina, but Brendan’s climax and coming out of the other side to support his brother was one of the more impactful parts of this film for me
i literally bumped into this movie when was looking for something to watch on netflix and since then, it's one of my favorite movies! it is funny that i've never seen the trailer, until now
Of deluge if nostalgia flicks Hollywood is drowning us in, this is the 1st that I honestly think is worth the price of admission. Looks like a fun time.
+Alec Farson These movies aren't about the ending cause the ending is either the boy gets the girl and understands what life is about or he doesn't get the girl and understands what life is about. These kind of movies is about the small parts in between that shape the character which results in 1 of 2 conclusions.
+Ritabrata Majumder I didn't say the movie wasn't about the little parts in between, I was just making a joke about the trailer showing like half a second of every scene in the movie, I'm sure it didn't show every scene but it seems like it showed a lot
A simply BRILLIANT film. Very highly recommended. The movie is set in Dublin where I am from. I know the school (Synge Street CBS) as friends of mine went there. It is also set when I was the age these characters are n yes we had a band and yes it was to impress girls....I would recommend this to anyone who has ever stood in front of a mirror and struck a rock star pose thinking..."one day"...this is for you. Best musical ever.
Had the pleasure of being born in 1976 and attending Synge Street (pronounced sing) which this film is based on. It's exactly how it was and everything from the uniforms, the principal (Scanlon) and the atmosphere is realistic. I had the best years of my life there and grateful for the memories. Viriliter Age.
A nostalgia flick that isn't based in America! Yay! I love seeing different points of view on the same subject. Growing up in the 80's has been done to death in American cinema and so any European, Asian, or African perspectives are amazing.
Have you seen "Can A Song Save Your Life?" pretty good movie and it's from the same director. He knows his stuff and does things differently from what we know through Hollywood or just bigger movies of this kind.
It’s a movie I come back to all the time. I was like what’s the name of it…. BOOOM 💥 I HAD TO LOOK up the part where they remake Rio - love Duran Duran !!! Legit listen to all this movies sound track while I do homework 😂
The Cure, Duran Duran, The Clash, Depeche Mode, etc.... I enjoyed these films before: ONCE and BEGIN AGAIN, and today I saw "Sing Street" film on Netflix and I enjoyed too! Great Movie with killer 80's nostalgic smell! - 🤘❤️ -Sid

Compared to La La Land, this was the better musical of 2016. Fight me.
No one will fight you on that.
La La Land was great, but it's not the type of film I'd see more than once. I can watch Sing Street everyday, honestly. Even though it gives me mixed happy-sad feelings too. Love this.
Don’t even try to compare with Lalaland. Lalaland is my life time movie.
I cant watch lalaland more than 10 minutes
It’s because the 80’s had the best music ever that’s why! 😉
Greatest big brother in any movie... EVER
Man I auditioned for this film, obviously didn't get a role but I'm not mad because this looks incredible!!
What role?
4 years later I am wondering too :D Which role charlie
Tell us Charlie we need to know! Please God In heaven Charlie TELL US!
Must have been that bully or his father then 🤷
Charlie you can't just leave us wondering what bloody role you auditioned for
I saw this movie only yesterday. Did it became one of my favorites of all time? Yes, yes it did

Love this coming of age movie ! So many great themes: Love, songs, comedy, family issues, bullying and redemption
And, lest ye forget the other theme: getting the hell out of Dodge.
