It’s not huge at all. The camera is small as hell so it make it look huge. Much smaller in person that it looks in video. Definitely smaller than that power base edge battery
I prefer the Core SWX Powerbase EDGE. It has a better backlit display, D-Tap sockets that don’t angle the cable down, 2x USB power and v-mount connection on the underside, making it way more versatile.
I have this battery paired with my Sony a6400 and it last 17 hours. Shot a wedding and never had to worry about battery life. Black Magic was about five hours.
Yeah I watched the same video you did and placed the item in my cart but never purchased it. Glad I waited, I almost bought the standard version for my fuji xt4. But I have sold that and purchased the fx3. Glad to know there is a specific version with a dummy battery for Sony. Used your link, thanks.
I have one as well and used it at the last wedding. Do like that added weight for handheld. I did find it kind of gets in the way a bit of the zoom ring on the Sigma 24-70, but not so much that I couldn't make it work. I also love the USB for powering my affordable Andycine monitor.
That's very cool! I wish they could have made it shaped more like a normal battery grip instead of it being so wide and flat. But it's still awesome! Thanks for the review. 😎
I actually quite like the shape, it feels chunky and actually sits pretty nicely flat on surfaces (if you dont have a plate on the bottom) A grip would be nice but they would have to make so many different variations im sure.
@@chrisbrockhurst Oh man, the first wedding day I tried it, I believe I only got close to about 1.5 to 2 hours. definitely want to have multiple on hand for extended shoots. I have personally gone a different route, love the way this setup distributes the weight though!
That's insane. We were JUST looking at these for our BMPCC 6K Pro's 😲 still not totally convinced though if we're honest. Mainly just cuz 8/10 times our cameras are on tripods so we just mount a V-mount battery on some rails. And if we need to go handheld, we still create some kind of small rig with a v-mount. Really cool though, love the design and how it mounts.
@@chrisbrockhurst You're in Peterborough or something right? Or you frequent Toronto a lot? We should collab sometime mate! Come check out our studio and all our gear, create something cool 👍
Hey there, super helpful vid! I'm travelling to Europe for a few months so just purchased an fx3 as a smaller travel setup. Currently building it out as small as possible. I do a lot of handheld and used to larger cameras. Would you say that this set up with the battery, a monitor + top handle and lens would be enough for a decent run n gun hand held set up? Obviously looking to strip it back as much as possible for travel but also don't want the micro jitters. Any help would be huge ! thankyou
Thanks for this video!!! Doubt about Anton Bauer Battery, does it really work? In this time of use, how has your experience been in real life? Another question, you have to remove the battery cover, right? It is easy?
@@chrisbrockhurst Yes. Fully Charged Titon, updated firmware, etc. The USB power works though, so seems like it could just be this particular dummy battery.
Great video mate just picked this up but was wondering how long does it take to charge yours up....I have been charging for 48hrs now and its still not at 100%. Might return if its defective
Great videos ! Latelly ive bien thinking on upgrading my A7sIII to a fx3, buy do you think woth all accesories that neads, an fx6 would be better . I mostly use for client work
theres no sense in changing to a fx3 if you already have a a7siii, theres not really any reason to call it an upgrade. Might be worth checking out the video I did comparing the too.
@@chrisbrockhurst yea i saw it , but in my country , for client work i was telling you haha, cause that people see a photo camera when the see A7sIII 😞
Nice and useful video .Now I have to make choice between the titon, sony multi battery adapter at $$400 US and lowest price Blindspot with dummy battery from (B&H).So I spoke with engineer from indipro and no danger of electrical problem. My daughter have a Sony A1 and she try this battery plate with no issues .but The camera displays the message for the third parties battery
Hey Chris, why don't you power your camera using USB-C, to avoid the hassle of the dummy battery, having to removing the door.. and offering you more peace of mind as if the D-ta would accidentally unplug, you're still rolling...
@@chrisbrockhurst Thanks. Maybe you can help me out.. It's somehow nearly impossible to find the product here in Europe (Spain) and the only available model I found is the Titon 8275-0130 Kit for Blackmagic Lemo and LP-E6. Do you think that if I pick up that one, and just use a USB cable, it can power an FX3 without problem? I assume the actual battery is the same across all models and the only thing that changes is the type of the dummy battery? Do you know about this?
That looks great might pick one up in the near future Also what brand is that hand strap attached to the FX3? Do you have a link to that product? Thanks 😊
@@chrisbrockhurst sooo weird because I love the fact that I get about 9 hours of shooting out of it but in the 3 times I used it mines over heated smh!
@@chrisbrockhurst I found what the issue is... Im not using Titon im using the power edge that has a flat design that covers the vent the Titon version has a different design on the top that allows for air flow.. problem solved!
I just use a small 10.000mah hour lithium iron battery bank, attached to my halfcage with a small and robust smartphone/battery bank grip from Smallrig. I plug that into the usb on my camera. That way I only spent 20 dollars on battery bank AND no error AND I can see my battery levels AND it's smaller. That allows me to record for about 6 hours of straight 4k in a test I did. So if you dont have 300 dollars and dont want a huge weird baseplate ... :)
yeh ive looked at that option too, not for me. I have that smallrig grip and wouldn't trust it for the kind of run and gun work I do, the battery pack would easily come out, also, having things plugged into the cameras side terrifies me, I'm not easy on my gear and id see the cable snapping off in the port within a day.
I hear you - but that powerbank is not moving even the slightest. The Smallrig clamp got in in there good. Probably better solutions for running and gunning at a wedding though, personally I just use the built in batteries for that however. The rig I got with the Powerbank is for livestreams or longform interview type videos. I've uploaded a few pictures of the Powerbank setup here on OneDrive, for anyone interested in a budget solution: 1drv.ms/u/s!AkpI1xLosD1koJpkzX5jrzeu4fW5NA?e=SalIsf
I've helped B-cam a few weddings and did a little run and gun with similar powerbank setup to my EOS M6 Mark II, but to reduce fear of catching the usb-c sticking out the side on anything and breaking the port, I got a 90 degree down angled USB cable. Little bit of peace of mind. No issues yet!
As I mentioned, used it for 2 full wedding days back to back and it was completely practical. Since I shot this I've used it for 3 more and still feel exactly the same. It might not be for everyone but for me and people who shoot like me for long periods of time, it's the best option I've encountered.
You know, to each their own, but I think it's too big and expense for what it is. I think there are better external battery solutions out there, but then again, to each their own for their ergonomics preferences.
Heres the link to the Sony compatible one! geni.us/titonbaseSONY
Everyone should own one of these! Thanks for the mention 👊🏽
