Hi Greg, there are a few different shades of the red colour code that you requested from the wing painter so in defence of the painter he has just chosen the standard red and used that!
The only way to of made sure of correct shade would of been to carefully saw/ cut the old wing into a 6x6 size small panel and posted to wing supplier (sent as a small box package) then he had a sample to check his colours chart.
The fuel flap removal is a pain to remove/refit so easier to send part of the old panel.
Hope that helps and just a tip.

I know you don't want to or think you can't but paint repairs by yourself is the number one skill you can have selling used cars, filler, base coat, clear coat are cheap, virtually every car I get needs some paint, customers won't buy needing paint so it's a great way to add value.
I'm looking to get a workshop for next year !
My first car was a mk1 fiesta 1983 in green, I was 17 and paid £250 for it in 95, I slapped pepper pots on and a mk1 xr2 rear spoiler, the fatest/loudest peco big bore exhaust and tinted windows, Jesus what was I doing lol.
Easy to work on though, and literally smashed it around.

Hi Greg, hate to say I told you so regarding the wing.🤭🤐
Unless your paint man is a magician, (they are out there) he may get it looking better, but it will still be noticeable from certain angles or different lights, I have been painting cars for years and if I got the red absolutely perfect, then it would simply be a fluke. (I may as well be honest, I am no magician 😊)
It sadly puts punters off too, complete panels replaced and painted sounds the warning bells, some even prefer to see a small dent. I certainly would.
You do have the right paint code mate, but once you find that, you then still have different colours of that code, these are called 'variants', sometimes a certain colour may have just a couple, but I have seen up to about seven or eight variants, and the difference is sometimes like black and white. (all to do with different paint batches at the factory I was once told)
I reckon that you have two options Greg, do you still have the old wing? if you do, take that new one off, swing it above your head three times and let it go, take the old wing to your paint man and ask him to repair the dent, just paint that area and lacquer the whole wing, not actually using red paint near the edges so that it matches the surrounding panels, (he will know)
Option two will cost more though, and would involve painting the full wing again, painting the edge of the bonnet, driver's door and bumper, and then fully lacquering the door, wing, bonnet and bumper.
Not sure about bodyshop prices around your way, but as an idea in this area, the cost is about £150 per panel, so you would be looking at about £600.
Compared to maybe £50 to repair the old wing and £150 to paint it?
Regarding the Mini, if it is mechanically spot on, then some paint may well transform it to retail stock. You would be surprised how many car dealers do this, I bet that well over half of cars on forecourts have had some sort of paintwork done, if you have or find something that is mechanically sound, good history, and with average miles etc, then don't let bodywork put you off as long as you have allowed for the cost at purchase.

I've purchased that mini, i got it home, went over the rear 1/4 panels and doors with 1200 grit wet & dry followed by 1500 and then 3000 trizac, and then mopped the life out of it using 3M products, it looks loads better now with a mirror finish....the scuffs are still there but hey ho....not an issue for me.

Need to try coarse compound and coarse mop head and go down grades to Finish bmw paint is normally quite hard.,other way is to wet and dry before polishing on the mini.

That mini looks ok but that back panel looks a bit of a bodged job looks like different black I would check inside to see how much damage to it and how much filler been put in it don't ever Trust eBay again i no you not stupid did you get the paint code right on both try your magic on the whole car to try match the wing take you had to rub it in again with the fiesta MK1 i really hope you got good money i was proper gutted

My Mito Alfa red paint. Ordered twice in error same code. Touch up pot. 30ml. Both miles out. Mixed with black and lost the vandal scratches both doors. But paint arrived or Alfa bobbins

Try going down the grades with wet n dry on the mini..might help..

@@ValleyAutosBirmingham you could maybe start with the fuel cap if that's as bad as the rest , even 1200 grit if need be but do try a small area first. Probably won't need the 3000 with a good cutting compound to finish buffing with . I'm sure you will get more advice on this subject from experts .

You can't really do edge to edge repairs, needs to be blended into the door, you could blow some of the correct red a few inches into the door and wing then clear it using fade out thinner either side, tbh I'd have worked on the original wing and not let the repair get near the door, but even clearing the whole panel is enough to darken it, sometimes the match is so off you end up painting the whole side, that's just for a dent on the front wing.

Thst vehicle d ore isn't right I put my van in out of curiousity came back poor rating but it's bedn well looked after wanted for nothing , judt reo, out with last garage mot tester trying to fiddle me for work thst didn't need doing l and putting down unesasary Advisory's which shouldn't been put down , but noe ther on my score. So can't really go by it my van mint wanted for nothing
