I had no idea about this dish so learning the history behind it was so interesting and cool! I don’t mind longer intros if it’s filled with cool facts!
I'm so happy to have found this channel. Everything is so easy to follow along and I don't feel lost when the recipes are explained. I've always wanted to try okonomiyaki. I'll definitely need to make it now!
Thank you for the introduction, it was very interesting! I didn't know that. Talking about okonomiyaki I'm always so undecided (I didn't try it yet)... it looks good, but dunno. I don't know why.😅 But now I saw that the recipe is easier than expected I will try to do it for my lunch at work ^^.💪🏻
:-) you don't have to apologize for the long intro. It's very interesting to learn the history of dishes you show us on your channel so please do it again
Sorry is not need!! Your intro is very interesting. So we can learn more about the history of Japan and the 2th world war there. Thank you for sharing this story and your recipes! Love greetings from The Netherlands, Marije
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned this yet, but this is very similar to a British recipe called "Bubble & Squeak", except bubble & squeak has potato as well. The originations are similar as well - poor people used to make bubble & squeak from the leftover potato & veg of the Sunday roast (the main family meal of the week). It meant that food was not wasted, plus the ingredients for one meal could actually stretch to 2 or 3 meals and thus save money. My mum used to do this when I was a kid, but froze the bubble & squeak she made, and she would then use it whenever she needed an extra something for dinner :)
Omg, this is one of my favorite japanese dish, and I was told yamaimo was a pivotal ingredient so I believed I couldn't make it at home. I need to try this mochi/cheese version now that I know I can make it :D
I love all the different varieties of Okonomiyaki you demonstrated in cooking. Thanks for all the tecipe ideas..now I can be a little more creative with this dish too. Everything looked so tasty. Keep cooking! 🥰
i just found your channel and am in looove!!! i love learning about the history of what im learning to make, there's more intention and connection that way! im excited to try out all these recipes!🤗
We love making these! Our youngest is severely allergic to eggs, so we’ve worked around that. So delicious! Now I have all of these versions to play with. Thank you! 💜
@@Lu-dm7rn the batter actually holds together pretty well without the egg. However, if you want it to rise, you could add a little baking powder. It seems interesting enough because of the cabbage, so we never use it. Could be a nice addition though. Just be mindful of quantity because it can make it bitter
All of these look so good, I love your channel. I like Japanese food but I don't have an Asian market near me and I'm not the best cook. I like how easy you make lots of these look, definitely give me hope to try to make stuff at home! thank you for the history about okonomiyaki as well!
Ohh I wanna tryyy! I'm so gonna buy some cabbage next week :3 Will you make the hiroshima version too? I loved the info in the beginning of the video, it's already nice to see new recipes, but it's even better to get some background info while you're at it too!
I love okonomiyaki, I've made it at home before and also tried it while in Osaka few years ago. Thank you for the little bit of history of this simple and delicious dish. 🙂
I love your video! I used to eat Japanese food at least once a week back home. Now I can follow your recipe to buy ingredients and cook by myself in Europe! The ending is so funny😁! I can definitely feel you, I love Okonomiyaki but I can't eat it more than 2 days in a row, LOL.
The into was very informational, thank you for telling us about the struggles Japanese people faced. It's important to remember history when enjoying food from another culture
Loved the intro, good explanation. In Canada, at a restaurant we had an omelet with bean sprouts (kinda similar)which was delicious! Will definitely try this recipe. Thank you
Darling, I’m learning so much about Japanese ingredients and Japanese culture from you! Thank you so much, please keep on with the good work, you’re amazing and your recipes are delicious!
Perfect timing!! Okonomyaki is on this week's menu and there's some great ideas here. Will be serving miso soup too - your 'pre-made miso soup portions' are a game changer for me. THANKS!!
Thank you for sharing the introduction. I didn’t know the history, and was always told these are just street food or a cheap student food. I love okonomiyaki, and this video has given me some good ideas for lunches. 😊
I have made okonomiyaki with this recipe so many times & every time it’s a hit in my family! My picky eater son loves it so much. My husband said my okonomiyaki is better than the one from specialized okonomiyaki restaurant near our place (we live in Canada, so not a lot of restaurant sells okonomiyaki). I always put lots of shrimp in my homemade okonomiyaki. So, arigatou for the simple recipe Yuka chan! 😊
Well, my first one was an absolute disaster. There's a definite learning curve to flipping. The second one was mochi and cheese and was a success. I need to make them smaller too.
My favorite Japanese food!! Prior to Covid my neighborhood Japanese market had a lady making and selling this in front of the store. It's delicious!! I miss it...will try to make it myself. 👍👏🤗
Hi! Your channel is super interesting, I loved every recipe I watched so far! I would love to see a video about rice cooking and seasoning for different uses! Thank you for the content :)
The people who tell you that Kewpie mayo is bad for you are wrong! Don't listen to them. It is a healthy whole food in proper proportions. That was the perfect proportion of fat to the rest of the ingredients. And, it's delicious! :)
I like to eat Okonomiyaki, but I never really knew what went into making the dish. It was also interesting to learn the history of the dish. I really want to try making it myself. Thank you for sharing this video!
I love food of different countries and Japanese is one of my top favs. But making it outside of Japan can be tricky, as you well know! So I'm very glad I stumbled upon your channel, because this was just what I needed to help me make and appreciate Japanese food even though I'm nowhere near Japan! 💜
Hi! I'm spanish but I love japanese food and culture. I just discovered your channel a few days ago, but I love it! This weekend was the first time I succeded making onigiris. Your instructions were very helpful and it was so delicious. Also, it's easier for me to find the right kind of ingredients since you also live in Spain right now and the ingredients avaiable are the same, cause sometimes I really struggle to find some of them cause they don't sell them here
Okomomiyaki appears highly versatile - apart from the cabbage bit, you can also add whatever you have to hand. Right? I love your thinking, tho. Keep it simple. It's hard to go wrong
I wasn't sure about this because I am honestly not very fond of cabbage. Let me say this is so delicious. I added some canned tuna in the basic one because I can't do bacon. Oh my, that made it awesome! I even made my own sauce. It's kinda of hard to find the actual sauce from Japan here in Georgia in the US. Thank you for your simple recipes. Everything I have made from your channel has been absolutely delicious.
I love okonomiyaki! My favorite is a Hiroshima style with shrimp but when I lived in Miyagi dotonbouri mostly had Osaka style so that's most of what I ate when I lived in Japan
I tried okonomiyaki at one of our universities and haven’t been able to find anywhere that makes it since, I will definitely try to make my own :-) thank you for this, lots of ideas on how to eat and enjoy it
I need to try these varieties, I love okonomiyaki and have made it a lot, but I usually keep it simple to use up veggies I have in the fridge, never really played around with proteins or the mochi (which I really need to!) I love that your recipe is super simple, but gosh I have a hard time making them smaller, I just get so excited to eat, I misjudge the size and always a pain to flip hahaha
I really like the history information you share with us. It's always interesting to know how some meals started! Also, this is really easy to make and it looks pretty tasty. But poor boyfriend eating so much okonomiyaki hehehe
I adore your channel. I appreciate that you understand our novices, and that you show each item. But, I was confused about Mochi, I thought that was an ice cream of sorts?
I wanted to try this since soo long but hesitated coz of d egg that goes in d batter as im a vegan..what can i substitute it for? Or else can i skip it?
I had no idea about this dish so learning the history behind it was so interesting and cool! I don’t mind longer intros if it’s filled with cool facts!
Thanks for sharing the history of Okonomiyaki, never heard of it before. I love this dish so much, it’s simple but so flavorful.
I'm so happy to have found this channel. Everything is so easy to follow along and I don't feel lost when the recipes are explained. I've always wanted to try okonomiyaki. I'll definitely need to make it now!

What do you use to replace the egg?

I use ground flax seed and water or garbanzo bean flour (besan) and water instead of egg.
love all the 3 recipes|! thanks for teaching us!
😂😂😂 I love your cute tutorial!! I can imagine eating it for a few days!! I will try the mochi one.. looks yummy!
I love your channel's style. Super cute and informative :)

Love it! Going to try this :) thank you again for sharing! New subscriber here! ☺️☺️

Tried this recipe today, it was absolutely delicious and very filling, and the sauce is just awesome with it. :)
Thank you for including a non-pork one! I've always wanted to try it, but I can't eat pork. I'm really excited to try your recipe, it looks amazing!
I love the video and I love the intro! You are fantastic ❤️❤️
Oh yum, nice timing, I was just trying to decide what to cook for Sunday night!
I like to eat Okonomiyaki, but I never really knew what went into making the dish. It was also interesting to learn the history of the dish. I really want to try making it myself. Thank you for sharing this video!

Awesome, I would love to see the Hiroshima style as well : D
I visited Osaka and had it made in front of us it was delicious 😋

Thanks for the recipe, looks delicious and seems easy to make and I have all the ingredients!
def making this for dinner tonight :)
De la necesidad surge la creatividad, se dice no??😉
I need to try these varieties, I love okonomiyaki and have made it a lot, but I usually keep it simple to use up veggies I have in the fridge, never really played around with proteins or the mochi (which I really need to!) I love that your recipe is super simple, but gosh I have a hard time making them smaller, I just get so excited to eat, I misjudge the size and always a pain to flip hahaha

I adore your channel. I appreciate that you understand our novices, and that you show each item. But, I was confused about Mochi, I thought that was an ice cream of sorts?
Looks so delicious!! But I am having trouble finding bonito powder. Is it the same thing as dashi powder? Or is it just ground up bonito flakes?
I think the love of mayonnaise is pretty strong in Polynesian community too. Ignore the mainlanders😂❤.
“Never fail to flip!” …Challenge accepted…
my favourite okonomiyaki is Hiroshima style
Where do you buy your plates? They’re so pretty!
I bought them from habitat in Spain :)
www.habitat-design.com/es/p/parma-plato-de-postre-de-gres-20-5-cm-oxido
Could you use regular flour (not cake)? Or would that really change the texture?
How long do you usually cook for each side? >_< and what heat temp do you use?
Is there another substitute for cake flour??? Thank you!!!!
These look great! I need better treats that I can make at home. And I do have pork belly available locally--lucky me.
Porque pondrá la cebolleta congelada 🤔
Nice video. Do you want to make more vegan recipes? I would love to see that en make that
What is mochi? I thought it was a sweet you had with tea?
I wanted to try this since soo long but hesitated coz of d egg that goes in d batter as im a vegan..what can i substitute it for? Or else can i skip it?
You can skip the egg and try adding some potato starch or corn starch if you have :)
@@yuka_jp okay suree tho i made it without egg n din add any substitute yest it still tasted sooo goodd
this is the thing with me:
i watch tutorial
i pay attention
i dont lay attention
i just watch video
i don’t remember much about video
What is mochi?
my batter was always watery
muslim here, which means I don't eat pork. Will turkey bacon justify? :))
"I got a few comments that I use too much mayo" there is no such thing, just like there is no 'too much cheese'.
