      I'm going to be honest if I woke up from cryosleep in a society like this I probably couldn't take it I do believe in law and order things like that but I swear to God if you try micromanaging what I say to what I do to my very existence I'm going to go absolutely ballistic and they would probably take great pleasure taking this government down piece by Piece by any means necessary it probably wouldn't be too hard since even the thought Police are basically everything correctness and or about is a violently capable as a marshmallow
      I find it absolutely hilarious that everytime Sylvester Stallone says one of his pretty amusing insults one of the Machines pops out of fine ticket and since everyone else is too scared to even and so each other he has to fill in the Void resulting in that one scene where he spouting insults almost non-stop he has to correct the universal off balance of a lack of 80s action movie one-liners

    Also the whole fast food wars/cola wars were a thing in the 1990s. It was a lame PR stunt where various chain restaurants would try to one up each other with cheesy deals, including Taco Bell and McDonald's and Burger King and Carl's' Jr./Hardees. The director thought it would be funny if the most meek player, Taco Bell, was the one who won the fast food wars. Ha. That's the story behind the gag. Now in 2021, it looks like Starbucks would have won the wars (by not being McDonald's)..

      Lol that really happened but much worse!
      Apparently in the late 90s in Europe an old guy was walking through a museum and went into a panic and pulled the fire alarm, yelling “bomb bomb bomb” and when he was arrested he explained to the police that the museum had a live bomb on display! They put a massive explosive shell on display with a live blasting cap in place. I guess no one at the museum knew how it worked and assumed it was already decommissioned but the old guy worked with those exact shells in the war, and he’s decommissioned a ton of them as well.. they’re always drilled out and a fake blasting cap is welded to the top as well as a few small holes drilled in the casing to prevent anyone from potentially trying to load or use it. They let him show the museum staff what to do and had the cap removed safely before having the shell picked up and replaced by the military.
      So yeah… we’ve put live munitions in museums before! What if there was an earthquake or someone knocked it over… idk that’s scary as hell to think one incident could’ve destroyed half the museum and everyone in it!

    San Angeles as portrayed literally could not exist without an effective law enforcement agency. The two basics must haves for a government is the ability to accrue revenue and coercive power. Like marriage to reproduce mandatory at minium and certified and liscened to be parents at max. On basic stats alone our present society is dystopia where laws and legislation are arbitrarly created and lack coming from a place of basic common sense. 20 kids murdered in school shooting. Lets keep pretending guns is a neccesary right. There is not a single brain cell in law makers. 600000 people died from tobacco, keep cannabis illegal though its death toll is zero. I know Cocteau in this movie was a moron, but I just realised his line of thinking does make sense. He thinks he's all important to the society as its founder and leader, and that it will collapse without him. Therefore he concludes mister Friendly fills the same role and that without him, the rebellion would fall apart as well.

    • @ScrambledAndBenedict
      @ScrambledAndBenedict 10 днів тому

      I think it's interesting too, how he thinks Mister Friendly is actually a threat to his society. Think about it: an entire group of cops can't handle one unarmed belligerent, let alone an armed one. If Mister Friendly wanted to, he could march his people to the surface, walk into Cocteau's house, and cave his skull in, and quite literally nothing could stop him. Mister Friendly's "rebellion" must be doing sweet fuck all other than just existing underground and occasionally stealing garbage. It shows how paranoid and delusional Cocteau really is, that he thinks he needs to take someone down who's not even potentially a threat, just because that person does things he doesn't like.

I think the baby boomer generation gaining a dominant position in major companies and politics despite being increasingly aging has alot to do with it, there are a ton of major politicians and CEO's in their 70s even though your average 70-80 year old can barely take care of themselves let alone figure out complicated geopolitical issues. Hell, my grandparents when they were in their 70s were both college educated (engineer and RN and were leaders in their field at a local level) but couldnt name half the countries on a map, could barely use a computer, had difficulty with flip or smart phones, and had difficulty doing things like shopping without writing a list or directions first yet our world leaders are getting increasingly older. Washington was president starting at age 57, Clinton was 46, Bush was 54, and Obama 47, but Trump started at age 70 and Biden at age 78. At this rate our ruling class will all be senile by the time they assume power and that cant help our collective intelligence.

      Voyager suffered from having too many cooks in the kitchen. Some episodes were fascinating and intelligent. Others were downright insane.
      One of my favourites revolved around a holographic town that a large amount of the crew were using to roleplay and generally just take a load off by pretending that their lives were smaller and simpler. Janeway all but drowns in the escapism and also has to make a choice on getting out of the space issue of the day or saving the escapism. She of course makes the right choice, then finds that one of the last bits of the sim is the part she was so dedicated in. One idea: Princess Ardala and the Draconians from Buck Rogers.
    Two idea: The vampire clans in Blade. They had great strategy but piss poor execution.
    Three idea: Skynet. Lotta screws loose there.
    Four idea: The aliens in Attack the Block
    Five idea: Megacity One in Dredd/JudgeDredd
    Six idea: Libria from Equilibrium. Sense Offenders!!!
    Seven idea: Jabba and the Huts
    Eight idea: Marleya of Attack on Titan (I had no idea that injecting people with titan juice and sending titans to an island would have consequences!)
    Nine idea: Cerberus from Mass Effect. Did they really think they could win? You could throw a few characters/civilizations in there as well.

    • @RoninCatholic
      @RoninCatholic 3 роки тому +4

      @@LizardSpork How's this:
      Left-wing totalitarians usually describe _themselves_ as liberals even if they don't support any actual liberties
      And libertarians are liberal in the sense of supporting liberty, but in the America-centric political zeitgeist this makes them paradoxically liberal and conservative at the same time, since political conservatism is about maintaining and conserving the essential liberties that made the Western world prosperous.

    • @MediaZealot
      @MediaZealot  3 роки тому +18

      There's always a bit of room for debate when it comes to political terminology. While San Angeles is obviously not liberal in the traditional sense, I still believe the film is poking fun at some aspects of modern liberalism (among other things). But that doesn't mean it should be taken as a damning indictment of it.
      Villainous Cocteau aside, their society started with good intentions, but now they don't realise their wellness regime has edged them towards totalitarianism. That's kind of the point. It's a cautionary tale. Not all aspects of human behaviour can be, or should be controlled.

    • @LizardSpork
      @LizardSpork 3 роки тому +2

      @@RoninCatholic AFAIK, neither the USSR nor the PRC or even the DPRK ever called themselves "liberals". They in fact often criticise the dangers of "liberalism" and "Western liberal ideas" as their ideological emphasis is on the "collective" whereas "liberalism" focus on the individual.

    I remember this film and it was so funny and ye so cringe worthy in the whole concept of San Angeles. But they do point out somethings that are near true to where the world is going. But thankfully they are not so desperate, simple or flat-out brain dead to think that we would go that route and in the real world people are voicing their thoughts on what the world is going today and it is quite the site to beyond. I also see the world outside of San Angeles as so horrible, protected against by Daddy D-Bag's automated war machines, that nobody would willingly leave San Angeles. I can also see San Angeles existing with the Judge Dredd world as one of the "unknown pockets of civilizations" outside of Judge Dredd's home city.
