Glad I found this. My mango tree is giant & dense. People say "DON'T PRUNE IT, THE TREE WON'T GIVE GOOD FRUIT." Unfortunately I didn't know what to do. Now I can see that I should prune it to make it healty, control its size, help with airflow & get quality fruit. Thank you for this video, I learned alot😃

I love the way he says "efficient". Great video, i recently planted 10 mango trees from seed and they are the right height for harvesting and i always used to see large mango tree fruit drop and rott to the ground because they are too high to harvest. I'm gnna prune my trees now, but i'll stick to organic methods for the pest and fungal control, thank u for uploading!
Thanks for this video. Very informative as a future reference. IN JAMAICA whenever a mango tree is worm infested We burn dried grass to create smoke under the tree and this helps to get rid of the flies and worms , of course this is mainly for domestic use .
Super useful video. I’m growing mangoes on my side yard. Small trees much easier to manage. Both trees came from the pits of fruit I bought. One came from the Philippines the other from Mexico.

This is far and away the most interesting and most useful video I have seen to date. I have a small home orchard that includes four mango trees. I am building this orchard using these techniques of high density planting and canopy management. Thank you so much for creating such an informative and helpful video.
This is so true. I have several fruit trees in my garden, which I keep at a manageable height. Light and airflow are the key to keeping them disease free and healthy. The fruits are a lot easier to harvest that way and get much bigger too. Works great with my plum, peach and Apricots and even an apple, I treat that way with great results. Great video and very informative, even though I live in Europe. Love Africa!

Great video. yeah quality control is the most important thing. This is a no-brainer. well pruned small trees of the absolute BEST cultivars pruned to minimize or exterminate anthracnose. NO systemic fungicides; all organic best tasting mangoes!
I noticed that in the fields with the pruned trees the ground is uncovered. I kindly recommend that you cover the ground, just like your unpruned tree area. The cover will protect the earth from drying out and many other things.. The leaves on the ground will decompose and nourish the soil.
Mulch all your cuttings if you can, it is the best way!! Bare soil is not healthy. Sooo nice to walk on the mulch too. Its like a forest floor and we aim to increase as much biodegradable material as possible. Compost area now built too. It's just feels so natural to do it.
The green leaves are on top of the soil not in the soil the green leaves are not in the soil where the roots of the trees are the green leaves are not affecting the tree the green leaves will die off turn brown decompose before they ever reach the soil below the top surface much less of soil near the roots nature is perfect just look at the woods it does just fine it applies everything in layers which decomposed before they reach the under soil and The Roots although I would not recommend piling up high a bunch of freshly green cut foliage or grass right up next to a tree or plant this could cause excessive heat during the composting stage but spread thin enough this will not happen but as far as brown leaves I've had much success deck in them several inches higher higher right up to the Tree or plants in fact that's how I plant vegetables on bare dirt if it is exposed and not covered with wood chips but I will rake the bare dirt spread my seeds and then lightly cover completely with brown leaves seems to work pretty good how's the moisture in and keeps the ground a little cooler and the seedlings pop right up through it

Dont ripe fruit in refregerator.. Just keep it in 36degree in dry place.. Just 24-36hours it will be ripe and put it back if it ripe put it back in refregerator to preserve
Nice video and nice concept. Here in the Philippines I'm sure Cashew growers could learn a lot from pruning their trees. One idea for Mr Kwaw - if he's still in business - would be to consider chopping down 10% of his trees each year for the next 10 years and replace with smaller pruned trees. The trunks, branches and leaves could be buried in a Hugelkulture style to add more nutrients to his soil and the money he will save on water will probably make up for the shortfall of the first couple of years!

Could a person convert his unpruned tree farm to a pruned tree farm while still using his current trees?

I have two trees in south Florida. A large one 10+ meters and a small one 4 meters. The large is a Valencia pride, the small is unknown as this is the first year from seed to fruit. I am trying to graft multiple varieties on the small tree. Up to six different types. This would be ideal for a homeowner who wants a long lasting fruit season with different fruits without multiple trees. I see this as a way to go forward for back yard mangoes.
still it is important to note that pruning or tipping is very labor intensive. I like the idea for tipping/pruning for back yards as you only have a small number of tree to work.

Mangoes are very common plants in India. There are lot of mangoes varity like Alfanso Dashahri Badam Langda Totapari Neelam Begampalli etc. Welcome to India and visit mangoes plantation even most of house holder grow mango tree in own home. Love from India.
U must mulch the ground with your leaves. If mangos hate nitrogen that much leave 5 meter diamater without leaves but ALWAYS cover open ground. Not optimal to burn leaves. Stleast compost leaves with other garden scrap and so u build compost u can apply on field and so build your soil throughout the years. And so fight erotion and anable your acres to be farmed for centuries. Nitrogen from compost wont overfeed the trees, the tree will only absorb the nitrogen it need ithink. Nice video!

I have a question, we live in South Florida and we purchased a potted Keitt mango tree that was about 3 feet tall and it was left unattended in the pot for about 8 months and it grew real tall, approx. 7 feet, it has no low branches, only a single long stem and only few branches on the very top; because we have a small area assigned for this tree we wouldn’t want to have a tall large tree; how can I prune it to get lower branches and keep it small? May I do a drastic cut of the stem at 3 feet or so and still get it to branch out or am I going to destroy it? Thank you in advance.
What are you going to do with all the open land between the small trees? When you already have a high canopy wouldn't it be more suitable to establish an agroforestry system (putting Avocado or others underneath, creating more harvestable products)? I realy like the idea of reducing the pesticides a lot! Thanks for your effort!!

" Bagging " the fruits is possible on a small scale or even on a large scale to protect them from insect damage . But what about fungal control ?

My advice if you have an unpruned tree is to harvest with a long rod with a blade and net at the end so the fruit does not fall on the ground.
