A cab is much shorter than the bed so 4 cab mounts are plenty and thats the standard for all 2 door pickups

I'm in the same boat Oak. I'm 53 with a 30 year tobacco habit, and lots of messed up joints and soft tissue damage from years of hitting it hard. Search water fasting, on YT. Nothing will heal the body faster ime. I'm on day 3 of a 21 day water fast right now. It's hard, but it works, and it gets easier. Google "Autophagy"

I have been watching for a long time. Up to this point, you still show your honest desire and love for cars. You treat them with respect and invest in them which is why your builds are quality. I just wanted to wish you prosperity, strength(working on cars can be stressful and cause fatigue), and that this passion operates fully in all other aspects of your life. Your an inspiration Alex for all us car guys whether we are just spectators or seasoned technicians. Showing us all how 'No Fear All Love' looks like.

Alex when you pick stuff up with forks and a strap on the end of the forks clamp the tip with a pair of vice grips so the straps cant slide off the end of the forks if the cab had fallen on the engine WOW the costs of fixing that much more i learned the trick loading huge cab sized valve bodies
with your new frame you should consider getting it powder coated the same green as the body would be a great custom touch

Hey Alex.I was a collision tech for 43 years .I specialized in chevy pu 1987. GM procedure allowed repairing frames on early models like yours.Spec tolerance +/- 3/16 inch of center line.Catch is no heat allowed behind the suspension sub frame. It is a custom frame so really study repairing before trashing it.Your cab is fine.

Wires and vibration don't mix very well and I was surprised to see so many that were left only protected by wire loom. Do yourself a favor when you re-assemble and get some rubber grommets for those pass-through's. It will protect and provide an overall cleaner look. You will also want to get the lower cover for just below the where the steering column pass through the cab as that's going to be a source of engine heat, water and debris from driving. Good luck on the build and you can make it even better!

When it comes to fishing out wires, I would have tied a string or some mechanics to that cable before I pulled it out and left it there under the carpet and sticking it out the cab until I was ready to reinstall it. Then when ready to install all you’d have to do is tie it back to the cable and pulled it back into position.

I had a 1979 GMC SHORT BOX then I got a 1974 GMC stepside truck I love both truck's and they were nice looking my Fleet side I had moon rims with wide Dunlops tires it was a dark gray color the back window's slide open I own that truck for 13 year's then sold it because to fund my 1972 GMC Suburban 3 door I still own that wagon that's my car show suburban I couldn't bring myself to sell it I done way to much work to it and replaced a lot of parts to make it look like a new truck.
I believe it's diffrent when someone else does all the work then it's easier to let it go for a price. I saw another one that came close to being like mine this guy in San Francisco was selling his for $ 14,000 sounds like a lot but after taxes so it would be much lower.

Cut the wiring harness, get a weather tech connector for the exact same number wires that’s in the harness. Connect the little metal pins to each wire end and solder them and insert them into each side of the weather connect connector so that they connect when you plug it back in when you’re ready to put it back together. As a mechanic that’s what I would do I think you can get the weather tech or weatherpack connectors from six dollars to $20 depending on how many wires you have to put together

You can buy brand new frame rails online and all the crossmembers too. I would just cut all the rivets off the bad frame rail where it is held onto the cross members with an air chisel and replace just the front part of the driver side frame. The passneger frame rail can easily be repaired. It will be so much easier and cheaper to not have to renotch the frame and try to replicate all the custom work done by gmg. When you reassemble you can buy a tool to install new rivets from where you cut the old ones out.

Looks like Chevrolet put a "C" Channel frame in that pickup. What I would do is box (weld sides to the open "C" Channel to strengthen the frame giving a stronger frame, then add more tubular (square tube cross ties between left and right frame cross members.
Gas Monkeys should have done what I said above.

Don't know how far you gotten on this project. And know your putting plenty of money in this. But as far as your carpet that was glued down. Spend a little more when you go back with the carpet and insulate the cab under the carpet for road noise. It's worth it. I like Gas Monkey, but they never do a complete restoration on their vehicle because they always have a timeline. I've worked at a restoration shop. And to do one can take 2 to 3 years to do it completely.

looking forward to seeing those custom frame rails..... :) ... that is definitely the way to go.... also you may want to flatten out that screw sticking out of the bed that damaged the cab....so you don't get future damage like that.... before you build that custom frame, take a look at the specs for frame rails for the current silverado, denali, and Fseries trucks and make it at least 5% better if you can budget it..... and maybe put in some more frame mounts to secure the bed better and with better torque specs for the bolts.... as you said the denali had 8.....

You got yourself one heck of a project Alex. It might be a nice touch to get a couple of weather pack connectors for making it easier for the next time. You can call this one "Twisted Monkey Truck"

Great video Alex perhaps invest in a Gimble, that will fix the shaky screen that you have ,as well try to invest in a clip on microphone that way your voice won't disappear when you walk away from the camera

Im a body man of 30+ years and as I said in your bring home vid. The frame is diamond. Fix the back of the cab and replace the frame and you need a left front knee assembly (suspension)

When fishing out that wire in the cab, tie a long string on the end. When you pull the wire the string will be in left in its place so when you want to put the wire back you just tie it to the wire and pull it back in place.

The only thing you had to do was attaching some rope in the end of your wire, leaving the rope instead of the wire. Then you attach again and pull from the other side. Simple and extremely effective

its refreshing seeing some old school muscle on here. Good to see you not taking off 30 parts to get to everything LOL
