@life life Man, who hurt you?! it's a slogan coined and used vastly during the independence movement and to gather Tamil people together. It was created by the Tamil poet Subramaniya Bharathiyar. It doesn't hinders other cultures in anyway. It's taking pride for who we are. If someone says "Indians unite" it doesn't mean others have to be separate. The slogan not only insists in taking pride for who we are, it is the way of getting the independent spirit to the mass and to feel like an Indian in a way. Edit: There was no India without South India. The Northern region of current India is called Bharata during the ancient times. It was during the British rule and Independence movement where the entire geographic location is called India and put together as one. What makes you think people of North would know the importance of Tamil if they read Vedas and Puranas like Gita. They've been arguing Sanskrit came first while both Tamil and Sanskrit co-existed in the same period. Please don't relate Tamil people with Karunanidhi as his grandchildren. It's ignorant and silly. And, he's not teaching you about Tamil. He's saying there's a chance Tamil people could be living in different countries under it's corresponding nationality. Live and let live. Please Don't make a fuss about this.

Kent McLeod Sambar is a South Indian dish. The mispronunciation upset that first fella. I wouldn’t really be bothered. South Indian states have their own languages. They are all quite different. Hence it’s ignorant to think someone from a South Indian state called Tamil Nadu who speaks Tamil will understand another person from Kerala who speaks Malayalam. There was one part where the guy just sings a bunch of random, popular Tamil songs and also mispronounces some of the words.
Kent McLeod There are a lot of people from Tamil Nadu who don’t speak Hindi which is widely spoken in the North. I am really not sure about the choice of creating content vs alcoholic chai). I can only assume that events in the South are not taken very seriously in the North. The next one was about assuming all South Indians own a lungi which is a casual attire for men worn at home. Aka veshti. Lungi is pretty informal but veshti is worn more for functions. The only other reference is about a very famous music director who makes music in both Hindi and Tamil. People from the North assume that it was copied from Bollywood but the reality in most cases is the opposite. However it’s the same music composition by the same director 🤷🏻♀️
I live in US and every Indian store I go to they start speaking to me in Hindi. Even though I understand the language I am not very fluent. I have to stop them everytime and ask them to speak in English. When I asked a person once why they always speak in Hindi whether the person understood it or not, they replied that since I was fair skinned they assumed that I was a North Indian. I am a Tamilian and this prejudice against people assuming that all people from South are dark skinned is just so irritating. There are so many dark skinned people from North too. Pronouncing of sambar is so bang on. Also I get irritated when they say Madras like Mudras. Even though its Chennai now, some people still use the word. I can keep going on.
@Chitti 2.0 Your opinion on others state people's acceptance of Hindi is agreeable, that too, it has reached so far this level mainly because of Bollywood, yeah. But, you have said, our culture is no way superior than Bengali, Marathis and Gujaratis. So you say, they are superior to all uh😁 no, you see, all the 29 states in India is unique and has rich culture in it's very own way; even within a state you can see regional multiculturalism. The way we follow and accept the other culture is what makes India as a unique country. So let's stop this and support each others uniqueness and not spread hatred☺
@Captain Obnoxious Dude honestly I can understand where you're coming from. I am as Tamil as Tamil can get, I was born in Madurai and grew up in Chennai (still am here). I LOVE Tamil as a language, and I am aware of the depth and significance it holds in history. But, what some Tamil fanatics don't understand is that other languages have that significance as well, no matter how old or not old they are. They make hating on other languages look very normal, but resort to aggression when someone dare criticizes Tamil. It's hypocrisy at its finest. And, the fact that Tamil is so old and still relevant doesn't change current-day statistics. While India doesn't have national languages, it does have official languages: English and Hindi. Let's face it: if you can't hold a simple conversation in proper English, you're pretty much screwed wherever you go. You can protest all you want, blame it on British imperialism, but it's not going to change anything. English is a universal language, and the fact that some people in this thread can't understand simple phrases like "rocket science" is quite saddening. Languages are languages, and they're only a part of a whole culture. Like you said, no culture is superior, especially in India, and anyone who claims that their own culture is superior, be it Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi, Gujarati, anything, is just plain bigoted and wrong.
1st, LOVE CHENNAI ❤ I have worked in Chennai for 2 years and have respect for the Tamizh..I hope I spelled correctly..and I can say it correctly too. But it is not like what is potrayed here, I am from Kolkata and before visiting Chennai I knew there are different languages. While travelling in local trains I was gazed at I totally understand that I was new and different there. I was called "North Indian" several times though I do not belong to the norther part of India. I was even told several time west bengal is near Gujarat because of the "West". Come on!!! Nothing to mind. Tamizh people are very soft hearted and extremely helpful, never ever felt unsafe in Chennai. If you keep away the fact Winter season never visits the place(with exceptions) tamil nadu is awesome. I would request do not draw any conclusion before visiting any place.
I'm tamilian but it's commonly spelled as Tamil but you can also spell it as Tamizh glad you're enjoying being in Chennai I used to live there in my aunt and uncles house I miss it
You guys have missed the number 1 thing which Tamilians are totally tired of hearing. "Hindi is national language". Come on please read official languages act of 1963 and educate yourself that India doesn't have a national language. Hindi/English will be official language of union government and Tamilnadu is exempted from this. Meaning union government has to communicate with Tamilnadu government in Tamil which those buggers have never honored.
See, they were enjoying the saambur so much. All that the guy cared about was its pronounciation! I am sure, tamilians can't pronounce non tamil words perfect. They should try to ignore small errors.. its unintentional.
In love with south since I first visited. The way culture is carried with pride! And of course home to awesome food and sweetest of languages...Love from a Lakhnavi.

I'm malayali and kids in the bus call me madrasi. You wouldn't believe how many times I've lashed out in anger because of that. Ended up slapping a guy since I couldn't control my anger.
We had a rangoli competition once in our school. So 7 other girls and me participated. In my school, we have optional languages like Arabic, french, sanskrit, and Malayalam. Since I'm malayali and should know how to read and write malayalam, I chose malayalam as my second language in school and North Indians took French. Therefore, my class has all malayalam students. So when we went for the competition, a teacher came to check show we were doing and said ours was the best. Ours was colorful and designed perfectly. We had to practice a lot and try. But the north Indians said we were malayalis and that south indians couldn't do it perfectly, and concluded that we cheated. They made such a ruckus that the vice principle had to give them a separate room. After we were all done, we put the rangolis for display. Other classes and parents were all crowded around our creation. I never felt so proud in my life. The next day, during the announcement, they started to announce the winners. 3rd price and 2nd went to those North Indian classes. We were sure we wouldn't get 1st place. But we did. We ran around the classroom hugging each other. My group and I were crying from happiness. Yesterday was the day we got the certificates. We walked onto the stage and were handed certificates from the principle. After all the prize distribution, the north Indians came to us and started saying, "you assholes cheated. We will get proof and show this school what a disgrace south Indians are". My group and I weren't fazed at all. Being the intellectual badass leader I was, I replied. "Trying to find proof for something that never occurred, is something you will never get. We are the true inhabitants of India. You people just came in with the excuse of trading and took over the random places you found in india. Now GO stuff your face with aloo paratha and cry in the corner of your room. We are gonna go have a celebration party after this. With our whole class. Toodles honey." Then we left and had an awesome class party with our classmates and teachers.

I replied back to them saying "Mujhe Hindi aatee hai" and they never spoke in Hindi again.
@@gobimurugesan2411 in my opinion, it is not about pronunciation. It is about getting confused why so many tamil people pronounce same letter differently. (My mom legit got asked for her passport in Gujurat, coz they thought she was Nigerian or something, like BRUH) - The clichéd 'lets make fun of the way the Tamil language sounds' heard a lot of tasteless jokes on that growing up in the north. - The offensive remarks on our Thick south Indian actresses, body shaming like nobodies business. - Assuming ANYONE from south is a Madrasi and we all sound like Mehmood from Padosan (I'm a huge fan of ek chatur naar so don't @ me) *Tamilians and all of our south Indian ethnic brothers and sisters are frankly tired of that ignorant shit. Keep churning out woke content like this Buzzfeed India, I'm counting on ya'll. Love from a fellow mixed southie!
No offense, but the body shaming is kinda accepted no matter the culture. That's primarily due to our overall instinctual look for healthy partners. I don't mean to say that thicc people are bad-looking lol, but for the general consensus, body shaming is a product what was inherently in our systems. Btw, I kinda hate how they always portray Tamil as being so slurred as it is spoken in Chennai. It may be due to me being used to Sri Lankan Tamil, but it seems more pronounceable? I'm not sure how to explain, but even Tamil Indians I've talked to agree. And yes, the North Indians have a huge bigot like attitude when looking down upon us, almost like we're different races. If America were to find an equivalent it'd be Hispanics vs Whites, two labels that don't even exist in Europe. Unnecessary conflict due to colorism is what causes our continuous divide

To all the North Indians: Malayalam and Tamil aren't the same language. This also shows how unaware you are of south India which is so close to you geographically.

Why you're thinking Tamils are against Hindi and hindi speaking ppl ? 2.didnt expected this. Pls come to TN and see how tamil hospitality is. Best in India. 3. That's so heartbreaking. Issues like kaveri was political reasons. Fighting Chennai vs Bangalore and Hyderabad was just competition. Why much hatred. Also we love our tamil and it's the oldest language. So we are proud of it. What's wrong with it ?? Where is the arrogance you can see here ???? 4. Tamils too love malayalies. It's not for the reason that malayalies love Tamils , it's a history made good relationship. Conclusion : we Tamils are proud of our language but it doesn't mean we hate other ethnic people in India. Also Tamils don't hate Hindi , telungu and kannada ppl. Those controversies are mad by the great great politicians.it doesn't resembles the ppl of TN. So , we love other languages too also we are proud of tamil and India. Don't spread hatred towards Tamils. Tamils want a good relationship and it actually makes India proud. Nanri 👍.

it's a slogan coined and used vastly during the independence movement and to gather Tamil people together.

😅😅😅

Even rural people from Tamil nadu still say 'Mudras'.
@Chitti 2.0 but we are not comfortable with hindi..
@Captain Obnoxious see? How hard was that?

We dont add our caste name behind our surname. We get respect by our own activities not by our caste

- Colourism/racist questions we get whenever we live or move to northern Indian cities. (My mom legit got asked for her passport in Gujurat, coz they thought she was Nigerian or something, like BRUH)
- The clichéd 'lets make fun of the way the Tamil language sounds' heard a lot of tasteless jokes on that growing up in the north.
- The offensive remarks on our Thick south Indian actresses, body shaming like nobodies business.
- Assuming ANYONE from south is a Madrasi and we all sound like Mehmood from Padosan (I'm a huge fan of ek chatur naar so don't @ me)
*Tamilians and all of our south Indian ethnic brothers and sisters are frankly tired of that ignorant shit.

I started a conversation with him in Hindi and my lady colleague asked me that "When you both know Tamil, why can't you speak in Tamil?"... I was like damnnnnn😂
Generally this is the feeling that everybody think about tamilians.
North India ( especially hindi speaking region ) : Tamils hate us.
North east : Tamils don't help , you know
Entire south exept Kerala and TN : Tamils think they are above us. They are so arrogant.
Malayalies : we love tamil. No much hatred
Tamils : 🤔 what the heck is happening here.
1. We didn't neglect or oppose hindi , we just say don't make it compulsory.
Nanri 👍.
