I'm supporting the idea. One can't expect locals to learn outsiders language. How many would they learn? People coming from other states should try and learn the local language.
This is not only a Karnataka issue or a Tamil Nadu issue, language issue has been there in my own state Maharashtra for several decades now, it’s just that because we have mass immigration in the big cities like Mumbai, Pune etc and Hindi being a compulsory language taught in schools almost every local today at least knows how to speak broken Hindi and can understand it completely. Marathi Bhasha jagva, Marathi bhasha vachva has been a slogan for years as our major cities became culturally diverse way before Bengaluru. Therefore we also have the same stand when it comes to language that if you are coming in Maharashtra and are going to stay and work here for a significant amount of time, then be considerate enough to learn the language because it’s one way to give respect to the place which is your karmabhumi🙏🏻

Just few Kannada words in-between Hindi or English sentences will make them happy and appreciate you. Best example is this interview where most of the interview is happening in Hindi and host said "swalpa swalpa" and ppl are happy. I dont know why this has become national news. I have seen ppl from Delhi learn Marathi in Maharashtra without complaining then why only Kannada has become a sensational news!!
Exactly... I am here in Bangalore from 2 years I only know a few nouns and a few Verbs in Kannada. Even those also i don't have to use them here...Many local people understand and speak Hindi or English so at least in Blr , I don't know about the rest of Karnataka...

Glad to see how all Kannadigas are so attached to their mother tongue and aren't ready to accept any other language in their own state. I am Hindi Speaker and I totally understand the sentiment with the fact that people must try and speak Kannada, unlike religious conversion this has a complete different center as I have faced plethora of difficulties in Andhra due to language. All the Karnataka people are asking here is that you leave your comfort zone and relate to them in their language. If you don't want to learn their language so you must not communicate with Kannada people and only find Hindi Speakers for your works. This is just being too privileged to not learn Kannada and expect them to change for you. That is truly stupid.
You're on to the point. What happens is most of the people coming to the southern states for work try to speak only Hindi and they expect others to learn Hindi. Their attitude and words resemble their thoughts. They need to change that mentality. The person who comes to the north from the south for work tries to learn Hindi and try to speak so. They expect the same back. Simple as that. By the way, I'm from Kerala. Kerala often welcomes everyone with a huge heart. There are lakhs and lakhs of migrant workers in Kerala. But we have to speak to them in Hindi. Hence most of the keratitis learned Hindi now to communicate with them. You can't expect the same mentality from every state. My answer is Muslims are trying to divide us, so if we speak bhojpuri, Tamil, etc with Hindi too then Hindus will get united and India should be united otherwise you know what happened with us within 200 years
Main issue came from the attitude of migrants... Hindi speaking people looked down upon locals and even mocked them for their hindi accent when they tried. This can be seen in Hindi movies as well. Eventually this ended up creating retaliation. Same thing happened in Mumbai as well and will happen at more places if this attitude doesn't change.

Sartak got it wrong. They are not. forcing anybody to learn kannada. The thing that riles the south indians in all sourhern states is when people from north go and demand that they should be able to speak in hindi with them. And the southie is like bc, tu yahan aaya hai toh yahan ki basha bol, mujhe kyun bolta hai ki hindi mei bol. Face it, north indians have this superiority complex over all regional people - be it south, north east or west. That is what the regional people reject. I dont see this bridging till the north indians change their attitude.
I think it is just bluster to cover up their inability to pick up another language. They are taking a short-cut by being aggressive about pushing their language. Those North Indians who already speak multiple languages will attempt to learn the local language. It is those who have never had to learn anything beyond Hindi (and maybe English) that are the problem. Look at that Bihari migrant he interviewed about others like him. Their neighbours had to learn to converse with them in their language but they wouldn't make an effort to learn the local language.
It's not that we don't want to speak hindi. Speaking from a neutral perspective, we like to speak hindi and help other people who don't know the local South indian languages. But when people from North India don't put any effort in learning the local language and say that you should rather speak hindi (because it's our national language. Even though it's not. This is what imposition is), that's when we get angered. Btw, I respect every language. Every language has its importance. In simple words, you need to put in some effort to learn and communicate with the local people. Love and peace❤

That will encourage the local people there to help me learn more. At the end of my previous comment, I mentioned you need to put effort that's all. By your reply its clear that you don't want to put any effort. So why should the local people (in southern states) put effort in learning hindi? 🤔 And about bullying, I'm sorry that you had to face bullying (I've personally not come across this). Karnataka and many South Indian states have a 3-language policy and Hindi is taught as a third language. Similarly North Indian states should adopt 3 language policy and teach a South Indian language in academics. This will surely help resolve this problem.
Third language should be optional not forced upon.. I chose Sanskrit as an option against Hindi as it's of more importance to me.. hindi is just another regional language.. So according to me 1st language should be English (as it's the only universal modern language) 2nd language should be the Regional Language of the State 3rd language should be Optional(any other than the first two)
@englishphobia5853 off course we also have same system from last 40 years. North Indians have advantages because Hindi and other languages are nearly similar. You guys can pick it up fast. But for Karnataka kids it's extremely difficult.
When I was working in Bangalore my colleague who's from Karnataka said they feel like everyone from other states are invading their space and it's becoming tough for locals to get opportunities and they want to have reservations for themselves in every MNC. Also they want to make sure to talk to them in Kannada they'll help us learn so it'll be easy to be able to shop easily at any level and it makes them feel respected when we speak to them in kannada like you feel respected when some tries to speak in your native language even if it isn't his first language. Moreover most of them can and do speak good Hindi which was my initial link language here. Even I learnt speaking Hindi here in Karnataka. Nobody in my home state speaks Hindi. But most north indians are absolutely reluctant to learn Kannada.
It is Kannada and not Kannad .. Traffic problem is due to hugh inflow of non local bangaloreans .. Unfortunately local Bangalore people are suffering from this situation.
It's because, the cities infrastructure has been developed, and whatever it is,the development should be diverse through out the state, everything dumped in one city, makes ii suffocate with population and followed by pollution, traffic, resource scarcity,etc...,I can relate, because I live in Chennai, and it has become huge problem here, sanitation and hygiene, waste management, had become a big issue,it's polluted, occupied and each year encroachment happens, most places r floded and its bulging with 1.40 crores people in where it's supposed to be 50 lakhs.definatly Chennai on hit list for climate change,we r sinking.
Why don't you stop company to open there, it's government right allowing to open company there, u r no one to stop. Any idea how many people from karnataka migrated to other states and increasing traffic there. Companies aren't opened for a particular city. @@pranjalkumar6047 When these people tell you to speak in kannada they don't mean you should be fluent in it. No one expect you to recite Kuvenpu's literature. They just want to see that other person is putting effort to learn kannada. It is not that hard to learn few essential words from a new language. Instead of saying "Bhiya, auto xyz (place) jatha hai?" say "Anna, auto xyz hoogutta?". It's not that hard to know these two words. If conversation requires more than basic kannada, try to speak in broken mix hindi words. They won't make fun of you. They will instead teach you the kannada word which you were looking for.
@@pranjalkumar6047 1) Not everyone is extreme with, "if you don't speak kannada we don't speak with you even if you are new to the state". I know there are people who straight away refuse to speak but there are many who listen to you and understand that you are new to the state and will talk to you in Hindi. Just ask them how to speak those lines in kannada for the next time so they will get an impression that you are making an effort. 2) first point is the solution to the problem. Now back to why this is a problem in karnataka and not that prominent in north is because of huge migration. Let's make it clear that this issue is mainly in bangalore and not in any other part of karnataka. If you come to Mangalore (or other places in karnataka) and speak in Hindi, people if they understand Hindi will definitly talk with you, if they don't know Hindi then they will either say that they don't know Hindi or point at someone who understand Hindi. 3) In bangalore, north people mainly come for Work and they usually stay there for years. Those are not your tourist which you may see in your place. Even after staying here for years they won't even make an effort to learn very few basic words. 3) Look at which group of people in bangalore have issue with this. They are mainly auto drivers and shop owners. They have to interact with people because their line of work demands it. These are the people who don't know English and previously before migration even hindi. They made an effort to learn basic Hindi (you can see that in the video, most knew basic Hindi) because they want to earn money. It was normal few years back. There weren't that many people from north. Now there are lots of people from north because of migration and they straight up refuse to make an effort of learning basic kannada. Now do you see why it is the problem in Bangalore and not that prominent in north. If your city had such migration and your own native language gets suppressed and outsiders not even make an effort to learn it even after staying there for years then that will create a frustration in the natives leading these scenarios. Tourists are understable but not so from the people who migrate to those places. Bangalore people were requesting outsiders for many years to make an effort to learn kannada if they are staying here for long time. They didn't, and now their frustration peaked and some are straight up refusing to speak. What you said about your home city is what happens in other part of karnataka also. Other part of karnataka doesn’t face massive migration and those people who speak hindi are likely tourist so people help them as much as possible just like any part of India. Bangalore case is different Hindi speakers are not tourist.

You know what's the problem? North Indians think they're superior. I'm a hyderabadi and we warmly welcome all cultures here. Many people can talk in Hindi even though our majorly spoke language is telugu. Of late, most of the northies come here and mock the locals who cannot speak proper hindi. This attitude is leading most of the people to revolt to save the regional pride. And Karnataka people take regional pride very seriously. No wonder we'll see this revolt in several other south cities.

North Indians donot have superiority complex in any way. By this logic , any Indian cannot travel in any other state if he doesnot know the language of the state. That is what the regional people reject. I dont see this bridging till the north indians change their attitude.

Those North Indians who already speak multiple languages will attempt to learn the local language. It is those who have never had to learn anything beyond Hindi (and maybe English) that are the problem. Look at that Bihari migrant he interviewed about others like him. Real states mafias has forced many companies to start work from office back knowingly since locals were dying of rent, no one is willing to leave there homes and come there. There hardly . 1% of actually banglories present there rest all from nearby cities unable to compete now so crying to get jobs.
Work from home is a good option and should be backed so that the pressure is not on a single city.

@@pranjalkumar6047, either you are miss-informed or malintent, there is nothing called national language in India due to its pluralistic and inclusive nature of the demography. Hindi and English are "official" language of communication.
After edits: it's good to have expectations, and different views. I find my initial arguments more logical than your why not.
Peace ✌️
