Being an ultralight moto camper, I'm usually not a fan of hard panniers, even on large bikes, but somehow, they work on the Trail 125. The Touratech aluminum panniers aren't cheap, but they aren't cheap panniers! It's obvious where the money went. There is value at any price point and this is some high end value. I'm cheap, but I can see spending $2000 for the Touratach frame and panniers, even on a $4000 Trail 125. This is the only Trail 125 moto camping video that didn't look like the Beverly Hillbillies with stuff bungee corded everywhere. This setup looked good and clean. In light of Moto Giant's recent 80 MPH high side when a sleeping bag went into his rear wheel, I'm even more fussy about how I secure loads.
I've always tended to think of moto camping as the faster and farther version of mountain bike camping. I'm not in a huge hurry so the Trail 125 appeals to me, even though I'm a big guy. I want the green one, though. 😀
I hope you do many Trail 125 moto camping trips. This is great! I'll never tire of this content.

Alot of so called light gear especially bags weigh in near what metal ones do. Weight always adds up. Always think light, like going hiking around the world up hill both ways and one will do well.

    • @UltralightMotorcycleCamping
      @UltralightMotorcycleCamping 4 дні тому

@@samhill3496 - I was a bit put off by the cost of good soft panniers but even more put off by the weight. 14 pounds... empty! I seriously thought about making improvised panniers using two 30 liter Givi bags but even though they're well made waterproof roll top bags, the attachments are not made for vertical loading. When it came time to implement that bad idea, I thought, "What the hell was I thinking?" That would be a bad accident, for sure.
What I'd *really* like is a pair of small low profile cases that can be securely attached to the frame in place of panniers, with my large tool roll and first aid kit in one side and my 3 liter water pouch and the yellow seam sealed Tyvek suit that I use as an ultralight rain suit in the other. I need some place to carry all of the stuff that I always need on the bike, plus water for camping, with that weight carried low, so the roll top waterproof duffel on the pillion and rear rack can be used only for camping equipment and supplies.

I use a 110cc Chinese knock-off bike down here in Mexico, fully loaded in the open road. 9 Hrs a day are enough to cover 300 miles with 3 gallons of gasoline. Tire selection is important though, I replaced the tires with Michelin ones. Change the oil every 1,000 miles, clean and oil the chain after every ride.

Thanks for another great video. I'm very eager to watch the video of the Trail 125 on a longer trip. Most of us make videos to extemporaneously document our moto camping trips. These videos are so much better because the primary focus is the video with the moto camping enjoyed in addition to that. Drone shots, ride by shots, careful framing of very scenic places... it all takes a lot of time as well as artistry, but it really shows in the finished product. #WorthTheEffort

I've taken my CT 125 on a few 100+ mile rally rides and a 250 mile over night ride. I've had it now for going on two years and I still haven't "clicked" with it but I am still trying. It's convenient when I need to run down the street real quick but I don't live in an area where it's easy to explore right from my home and I don't live in an urban area conducive to scooter type activities either. I'll keep finding excuses to hop on it and take it for a spin and it's not costing me much to keep it in the corner of the garage either so for now it gets to stay in my stable.
The Touratech panniers and rack are super cool for a bike like this but I agree, without sponsorship like you yourself have, very few will do the same. Looking forward to seeing videos covering your future trip on the Trail and I hope I am able to finally snag a ticket to the rally next year so that I can finally attend haha.

Super! My first bike was a 1972 Honda CT 70 dual sport (which looks similar to this) and it hauled me and my dad up some gnarly off-road mountains, through swamps and on the pavement! That little bike has sparked a lifetime of curiosity and adventure. Now I'm keeping my eyes open for a 125 like this for the farm!
Question: What are the two black carrying cases you've got strapped to your engine bars? I looked on your Amazon site but couldn't find them. I would love to have something easily accessible to strap to my Norden 901 to carry my water bottles near the front of my bike. Thanks.

sterling, its fun riding a small light bike on adv rides as the adventure is still there and no one wants heavier bike, but I find when I'm away from NZ riding on hire bikes or on a organised tour thru other countries I really miss the fun factor of power and the comfort of my own setup bike, home its a KTM 500exc and overseas its xr150, klr650,etc. big difference. I find it safer riding a powerful, but still light bike, get front wheel over obstacles and way better suspension which helps keep me away from hospital food.
if I won lotto I would have a ktm500 in lots of different places, but that's dreaming.

Lighter is better. Would you really need a powerful GS on those roads? You'd pass the lookout points much faster ;-) Those hard panniers are comfortable to load, but vulnerable once they fall. On ACT Croatia we had GSes tip over and bend their hard panniers, their lids wouldn't close. Several engineers pressing and pushing made them work okayish, while the other with soft panniers had no problem. Looking forward to your episodes of that trip, Günter/Nürnberg

    sponsorship is a have really.
if any product was absolute rubbish and the wearer didn't like it at all would they say, "this is absolute crap, worst I've ever worn" NO
its hard enough getting people who paid full price for things to be honest

In an age of excess horsepower & overblown adventure bikes, this is delightfully absurd at the complete opposite end of the spectrum.
Can’t say I’d ever go there, but it’s amusing to see, when everyone else is drifting sideways in wheel spinning frenzied rally mode on 100+hp behemoths.
