    Crazy how some of the biggest names in jazz still play these little bars and events. In a good way for the most part.

      BassHeadJazz not for the most part but for the whole. Jazz is a music for the people by the people. As a professional myself I’ll gladly go pay a $10 cover fee and some drinks to go see awesome musicians like this

      @@PoachedPete lotta bang for the buck there! To me it flirts with being accessible to the point that it devalues the product (like playing gig for free or drinks on the house) because than people expect to see a giant like Julian playing for peanuts. Im sure this isnt the case here, and the other side of the argument is exactly as you said. Who knows how many aspiring college musicians needed a little push and got that energy back by seeing Julian in an intimate setting like this.

      mediocremagic I paid 20€ for a concert of Julian’s trio yesterday and I’m still amazed. Best money I’ve spent ever.

      This was a concert series at russ and daughters organized by the stone and I think it was curated by John Zorn. I think they had enough backing to adequately pay the musicians. A special treat for those of us who made it there.

    I love how the noise of the cafe is a sincere part of the music. Its absolutely beautiful. Thats real jazz. I'm so glad someone put a guitar in his hands.

      Reminds me of Evans' "village vanguard" album, where you can hear the plates rustling in the background

    damn... wish there was more of this session, and pro quality...

    • @owenhu9465
      @owenhu9465 4 роки тому +2

      Absolutely... This reminds me of Bill Evans' village vanguard sessions. The clattering of the kitchenery and the subtle chatting and laughing of people in the background, the similarly beautiful tone of the two Scott's, and julian's sensitive and dynamic touch on his guitar. Ahh if only this was recorded in full...

      It’s called making money. Not much of that in music nowadays let alone jazz and there never has been much for the latter anyway. Sad but true.

    • @crow-dont-know
      @crow-dont-know 4 місяці тому

      And then he moved from the Gretsch to his Collings signature (which is one helluva guitar btw!) But, he's still playing the Tele (though I think he's got a P90 in it now), saw him do a set with it last week
