No, the 'face' mask is to protect his head and neck, faces aren't real, they are lies told to us by the government, just like the moon landing and that the earth is round
this was my first LPL video before many many others, in my quest to decide on what bike locks would be best, and it's just nice to come back to, full of gratitude for all i've learned since from LPL. also, if you have a bike you love, go with kryptonite, you will sleep better.
Hey LPL not all face masks are actually impact rated and meant to be worn with saftey glasses. Make sure you read the label. It has cost more than one person their eye.
Good point. The high-velocity impact of the fragmented, sharp, hardened alloy blade can penetrate non-ballistic face shields. These tests are useful, don't get me wrong, but one may consider doing these tests within a see-through "ballistic box" for safety.
I think it was to protect against the glass that would inevitably fall when a fluorescent light tube gets shattered. cuz I don't think many things could withstand an impact of that amount of force. also if he was standing right I think he would have been standing there is no physical way that blade could have hit him.
Not to mention even if it protected his face and eyes, that shattered blade came out with such force that you'd probably still be heading to the hospital due to the blunt-force trauma.
LPL, you can prevent alot of the blade damage by having a precision Gib set made for the slide to minimize the deflection. As it is now the slide has too much clearance that allows the blades to deflect, bind up and chip.
LPL: (calmly) I've been expecting this for a while, which is why I outfitted my home with the best fallout shelter on the market. Let me show you a few security concerns I have about it though.

the ottolock and the NY krypto lock are meant for two totally different purposes though. if i'm commuting, running errands, or having longer durations of non supervised lock-ups, i use my kryptonite u-lock. i have the ottolock too now which i've used for a couple years and i bring it around when i'm on a training ride and its really just used on short stops that last a few minutes.

Definitely want to say thanks for LPL. A coworker of mine has a firearm with one of the locks in a video that was easily taken apart with a Lego. Kudos for helping educate and keep everyone safe.
That was freaking awesome, though I must say that I believe the side forces exerted by the twisting of the shackle are actually what caused the cutter to fracture. Had the shackle been mounted so the cutter was held straight, I think it would have faired better.
@@Sparkeycarp That's really not related to the shackle twisting between the blades. Try watching again - it definitely was not staying straight, which put sideways pressure on the blades.
Yes, it added bending forces on top of the normally expected force. But I think the outcome would have been quite similar even if there hadn't been any twist.
@@perwestermark8920 Not to mention, if someone brought a pair of jaws to cut a lock off of a bike, I doubt they'd bother to clamp everything down to ensure that it was square.
Holy hell. I laughed so hard when your response to a gun shot going off practically and glass shattering everywhere. You could have gotten seriously injured and all you've gotta say is... Okay.... lol
Those cutters put out 12 tons (24,000lbs) of force. I was apart of the marketing team that designed and first sold these cutters. They are actually hydraulic rebar cutters. We made these cutters, aswell as a smaller design the YQK-70 with its chassis used for wire crimping. The small version can put out 12,000lbs (6 tons) of force about half as much as the rebar cutter. You can get a mini one to put in your pocket, and change out the crimping end tool with the rebar cutter end and get a small concealable hydraulic mini bolt cutters. We eventually after several prototypes, sold the patents for the rebar cutter and wire crimps to the Chinese.
I hate to nit pick, but I have noticed the cutter jaws don't line up to create a shear point, they are offset to each other once force is applied. This monster shackle would have mashed those blades regardless but it would be interesting to see how it would work with a good adjustment on the blades to lower the side loading.
@@HongNguyen-rz2uv not so Shure, they are too small for this job, making them fragile as consequence. You would need more force and a less shallow blade profile, otherwise they will shutter/bend around the shackle anyway
@@Edinboron I agree they are not made to cut anything like that shackle, just wondering how they would react working in a direct push. After watching again you can see it looks like the threads give it the ability to shift to one side so it is just play built into the tool, not something that can be corrected as it is.
I'm not sure the cutters have such fine tuning capabilities as you're describing. Yes the point of attack would be better if both blades remained in sync but to achieve that would require a significant amount of engineering effort, probably resulting in a much more expensive tool which would negate the purpose of the experiment.

You need a 1/2" thick polycarbonate sheet in front of your mask, and I know what I am talking about. I have a lot of experience assembling / disassembling press fit dies in a press. Those are hardened tool steel. Sometimes they do not wish to come apart, and the hardened pushers, or the die inserts will explode. Even small parts, smaller than 18 mm explode like in this video. They have a real lot of energy. I have seen them penetrate the steel guarding around the press. But not the polycarbonate front, which in this case is an inch or more thick, and only large enough so one can view what is happening in the press chamber. In other stuff, those jaws were moving out of alignment during this test. I wonder if your tool is worn out now. Off alignment will over stress the jaws causing them to fail. They can move out of alignment if you are overworking the cutter too. But, glad you tested this lock, good to see something that seems very reasonably resistant. You need to test it for pick resistance now too.
@@tequilacollins I work with an ironworker, it has a press/ cutter/ notcher the whole thing is hydraulic powered and will do 3/4" steel like its nothing. If you have a die explode or a cutting-edge explodes, well if you're in the path of the material it will go right through you. it is exactly like a bullet, but you know soaked in hydraulic fluid and has not been cleaned in forever. this was my first LPL video before many many others, in my quest to decide on what bike locks would be best, and it's just nice to come back to, full of gratitude for all i've learned since from LPL. also, if you have a bike you love, go with kryptonite, you will sleep better.
This is the lockpicking lawyer, and today I’m going to show you a easy trick on how to remove fluorescent lightbulbs without even touching them.

Hydraulic Cutter: Shatters and breaks florescent lights, raining glass down everywhere

That was freaking awesome, though I must say that I believe the side forces exerted by the twisting of the shackle are actually what caused the cutter to fracture. Had the shackle been mounted so the cutter was held straight, I think it would have faired better.
I doubt it. It did not hardly nick the shackle as he showed you when he stripped away the coating.
I have the same thought

This was the Lock Picking Lawyer for today and tomorrow we are going to test if a coffin can be picked from the inside!
I love how hardened steel shatters like glass, showcasing its crystalline nature.
Glass isn't crystalline though >.>
@@questgivercyradis8462 I never said it was. That is why I differentiated glass from crystalline.
I hate to nit pick, but I have noticed the cutter jaws don't line up to create a shear point, they are offset to each other once force is applied. This monster shackle would have mashed those blades regardless but it would be interesting to see how it would work with a good adjustment on the blades to lower the side loading.
You are absolutely right. If The two cuter blazers straight in line would have different result
They are susposed to be offset

They have always been offset like that
It's already been picked, vid #'s 546 &550.
Mask? That piece would have gone through his flesh like a bullet. I think he should be behind a shield. Think grenade...
I was doubtful a face mask would be enough protection. Glad to see someone with expertise chime in.
Basically, his face shield would stop nothing.

Cheers for the vids, congrats on your viewing numbers 👍
Hate to burst your expectations but in the fire department we had saws that likely would cut that lock , or pry bars to break it, etc
get your cutter frame aligned, the cutting edges don't line up with each other perfectly. (not sayin' improper cutter alignment caused the failure of the cutter, but it definitely contributed to it)
Good point! Another test would be interesting, although costly on his end for new blades which might break again.
