  • One for Jack White's birthday on 9 July, The White Stripes' debut single Hotel Yorba. The first song we got to hear and see from The White Stripes on British TV back in 2001. At a time when they still had us believing that Meg and Jack were sister and brother ;-).
The original single may have been played on an acoustic, but that first sighting on Later With Jools Holland had Jack playing the guitar that went on to define the look for the band, the Montgomery Ward Airline J.B. Hutto Res-O-Glass. Hats off to Jack for resurrecting lo-fi, and more importantly a whole bunch of unique guitars that had been consigned to the bins of history.
This one is a 2005 Eastwood Airline, one of the first of Eastwood's loving recreations off the production line. Not quite as faithful a reproduction of the original as the later Eastwood Airline 59 2P, but has all the feel, playability and attack that you need. The singing's kind of unavoidable, but hopefully it's a catchy enough song to make that forgivable.

It's an Eastwood Airline 2P DLX, one of the earliest that Eastwood produced after they agreed the rights to recreate the Airline models in 2004. The more famous namecheck for this is of course the original 1964 Montgomery Ward Airline J. B. Hutto Res-O-Glass that Jack White made famous in The White Stripes. Legendary guitar!
