    Hi Anna, This is an amazing video. So educational and incredibly interesting. I'm surprised you don't have more views on it. Also, was saddened to hear you had to go through a serious medical issue. Hopefully all is good now but please take care of yourself. Looking forward to the next video. Thanks!!!

    I wanted to thank you for this video as I have a gtx 970 that has done the same thing and working on it. I took tons of heat. Keep up the videos and thank you once again.

    Love the 4K footage. Is that bottom inductor cracked at 5:33? And what is the model of the mosfet driver?

    • @pseudobacon8814
      @pseudobacon8814 3 роки тому

      Looks like 81062 marking from your previous video, which would be NCP81062. Only possible with the footage

    • @PhysicistAnna
      @PhysicistAnna  3 роки тому +1

      Yes to both. It is the NCP81062 driver and I tried to remove the bottom inductor to get better access for the voltage mod but it cracked before I was able to desolder it so I gave up and glued it back together. Forgot to mention it in the video.

    I have a 970 with a similar burned mosfet… was unable to fix it! If you have any interest I would be happy to send it to you as either a donor card or for you to try and fix! Interesting video and definitely a tough repair!

    Hi, i dont know if you noticed but the last choke from up to down has a crack. Maybe thats a cause for the coil whine or maybe even power draw in 1 single connector.

    Can you explain what you mean by changing the switching frequency? Is this a reprogramm on the GPU firmware?

    • @PhysicistAnna
      @PhysicistAnna  2 роки тому +1

      I changed the switching frequency of the buck converter by changeing the corresponding resistor.

    what mosfet can i use on my gpu?
    I need a sm4373 ct73e , does the ct73e matter when im ordering a mosfet?

    I have a short in the power connector. But all the MOSFETs are checking out good.
    What else could it be? I am a noob so forgive me if I am lost. Gigabyte GTX1060 6GB died when lightning hit my home and took out a handful of electronics.

    Hi Anna , I have GTX 1050ti mini 2gb. Now it's not working and when I check up9509 is getting hot , pgood pin has showing 3.3v ....what can be wrong here ??

  • @corvus402

    Apologies but I fail to understand the power reading issue. GPU-Z can show PCIE power, 6pin power and 8pin power. PCIE draws 75W but then what's going on with the 150W extra? What does two power rails mean, taking power from the 6pin and 8pin?

    • @PhysicistAnna
      @PhysicistAnna  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Corvus, thanks for your comment.
      So GPU-z displayed 75W from the pci-e slot which is totally fine and withing spec. However GPU-z also displayed 150W on one of the two 6 pin power connectors and 0W on the other one. For one this power draw is way too high which made me not completely trust the reading at this point and the 0W draw on the other 6 pin power connector made it worse as I expected it to work. Two of the four power rails going to the GPU (each "rail" being a synchronous buck converter) are connected to the first 6 pin power connector and the other two to the left 6 pin power connector. There are two issues at hand here, for one a power draw that was way out of spec and two no power draw on one of the 6 pin connectors which I assumed worked. In reality the 0W reading was true but the power draw I still can't explain. In the end a simple swap of all mosfet drivers would have resulted in the card being fixed. Preparing for the last video I made a mistake setting up and I bricked it. I don't know how or if I should actually make another video as it now does no longer work. The power delivery does work but the chip is destroyed, I am so sad.

      @@PhysicistAnna Hello Anna, I'm sorry this reply took so long. I just finished repairing my own 970 after watching your and other similar videos, they were very helpful and I'm very appreciative for the effort! The issue seemed to be the same, a faulty driver that burned a mosfet; replaced both.
      Sorry to hear about the way your project ended. What made the chip brick?
      When I test my GPU I will give an update on the situation.

    I currently have an AMD RX 5700XT which doesn't provide a video signal. When booting from the integrated graphics the card does show up in Windows device manager but upon installing the AMD driver the system just freezes either during the installation or during the bootup after the installation. The card gets warm and fans do start to spin so i don't think it might necessarily be a power issue. I was able to reflash the BIOS a couple of times but to no avail. I'm now wondering if the actual GPU chip might be broken or it might be another component which might make this card repairable. I'm just not 100% sure what to look for.

    • @PhysicistAnna
      @PhysicistAnna  3 роки тому +1

      Sounds like you did not properly reinstall your drivers. Just to deinstall and reinstall in windows doesn't help. You need to boot into safe mode and use a specialised programm to get rid of all drivers and their leftovers. After that a normal install should solve the issue. However by flashing the gpu bios there is now another point of a potential failure and if reinstalling the drivers the way I described did not work it is highly likely due to your gpu bios. Bios doen't only have to line up with the card type but also manufacturer and sometimes specific batch. What I can say is that there is no physical damage that can cause this behavior.

      Ad53 okay when installing the graphics card driver the windows crash or get stuck is the GPU won’t support heavy loads you may have a short on Pcie 3.3V rail just one way to find out is injecting voltage if GPU gets hot fast is one memory controller inside the is bad that’s why you still able to use as display only

    Hi can u help me in diagnosing gtx 750 its nit working and check the pci connection there is a short in 3.3v pins in gpu can u tell more details where to check more

    • @PhysicistAnna
      @PhysicistAnna  3 роки тому +1

      Unfortunately that's a kind of damage I don't know about. However, considering that 3.3V is used for the logic of the gpu, meaning for the main controller IC for example I'd measure if it is shorted. Otherwise it could be any of the passives used around the main controller IC. If there is no obvious, visual damage its pretty hard to diagnose. However if it's not the main controller it could be memory related. The memory has its own dedicated power delivery and maybe dedicated controller IC. Besides that there are numerous op amps that could have failed. Pretty hard to tell from afar.
